really really busy (in real life) and I just did Debian work if cruelly

Not-DDs can be added to @debian.org alias: at least I was added
at events@d.o when I wasn't a DD yet, and the same happened for
cdvend...@debian.org.


Wrt organization: wiki is really useful for organizing stuff. And is also quite
easy to follow the organization process *if* you're aware of the
existence of the wikipage.

Oh!! Finally!
To make a long story short: I have no experience of organizing events,
for instance, and I'm in the events team just to do the promoting/www
part. 
It's quite a while that me and Luca are talking about enlarge the team, to
include at least 1 person from each part-of-the-world where events are
more regularly organized. 
This person need to be one who often organizes events/booths, so someone
with experience and who knows practical things about events.

Now, we usually have a lot of events in Europe mostly in the
German-speaking area, but also in France and UK.
Then we have few events in the US, some in Hispano
America and Brazil and a *lot* of events in India (thanks to the Debian
India group) and some in Taiwan.

I've thought about a couple of names for some of these areas (please fill the
list of possible candidates for this area, or propose yourself!), to be part of
the events team:

German-speaking area: Annette Kalbow, Arne Wichmann, Axel Beckert,
  Franziska Lichtblau

France-speaking area: Carl Chenet, Sylvestre Ledru
UK: ...
US: ...
Hispano America: Fernando Estrada, Gunnar Wolf
Brazil: Ana Caroll Comandulli, Marcelo Santana
India: Praveen Arimbrathodiyil
Taiwan: Andrew Lee

I think that having (at least) one person for each area in the events
team, acting as a proxy between the local organizers and the Debian
Project could be a good idea.
Again (to avoid misunderstanding) I think that decentralized organization
is the best option due to the fact that "it works!"™, but there are some 
area where the Debian project could help:
promoting the events on internet, offering the Event Box and other
material, etc.
And this is actually the work to be done on the event team.
Just this :)

So, no problem (from my PoV) in let people organize events on specific
mailing lists and their languages, as far as there is a person who can
act as a proxy between local organizers and Debian. 

If you all agree on this part, I'd really like to start to send some 
invitation to the events team. ;)

I honestly believe its worthless to fix this non-issue (or any of the
more than 500 other occurrences of it) just to make the code prettier.
If any, a useful refactoring could be #98811-related, but unless someone
disagrees, I'd close this bug report in a few days (feel free to close
it before I do).

it seems that it is currently not possible to search through the contents of
unstable packages whereas contents of stable packages seem to work fine.
More precise, it seems only stable package contents search seem to work.

There are 2 links, but none allows to verify that.
The hypertext link links to our own press release about the event, which 
does not have any link to Linux New Media. This in itself could be 
considered as being the problem.
The other link is to Linux New Media, but it's to their homepage ( 
http://www.linuxnewmedia.com/ ). And unfortunately, I couldn't find an 
archive of awards on their website. The confirmation I did find was via 
their Linux Magazine website:

Hi,

Cyril and I disagree about the cause for the missing description and
the fix for it. So someone impartial please look over both out patches
and see which makes more sense. In both cases the english translations
must be added to ddtplangs [Patch 1/4] from Cyril [1], I didn't
want to repost that.

Here is how I see the problem:

1) Originaly Packages.bz2 contained the long description and no
   description-md5 field (still does for older releases).
2) Translations are indexed by the md5 of the original long description.
3) bin/parse-packages computes description-md5 and stores it in the
   packages database.
4) When generating the webpages the description-md5 is used to lookup
   the translated description with fallback to english and the
   original description.

But in sid the Packages.bz2 files now contain a description-md5 field
and only the short description instead of the short and long
description. This cause the computation in (3) above to compute the
md5sum of only the short description and then the translation lookup
in (4) fails to find a translation and falls back to the original
description, which is only the short description.



Now my patch (attached) fixes this problem by only computing the
description-md5 field if it is missing in Packages.bz2. A simple one
line fix. The rest of the code already does all the right things and
looks up the translation correclty including falling back to 'en' as
needed. E.g.:

3depict has no german translation so the english "translation" is used
as it should.




Correct me if I'm wrong but here is how I understand Cyrils patch: It
works by fixing the symptom instead of the problem. In [PATCH 2/4] it
checks if the Packages.bz2 file contains an description-md5 field, If
so it looks up the english translation for the package and replaces
the description with the english translation, thereby restoring the
long description for the package (line 146 with his patch). And now
that the long description has been restored the computation of
description-md5 a few lines later computes to the right value, the one
that is already present. And with the right description-md5 value the
translation lookup when generating the pages functions again. [PATCH
3/4] and [PATCH 4/4] then tidy things up and make it possible to do an
english only run for bin/parse-translations. The reason for this is
that with his patch bin/parse-packages requires an in-sync translation
database to function.

That's only if you're interesting in getting the translations back. Now
go read the block of code right above $data{'description-md5'}…

… and this is needed so that storing the description in the database
(what I pointed to above: $descr, $sdescr, etc.) happens properly,
meaning: the long description, not the short one only.

As said on IRC, if applied after my patches, you're optimizing out an
MD5 sum in case it's present already; which doesn't hurt. But that
doesn't fix the issue with short descriptions floating around.
