Bug#428718: ITP: funguloids -- Those Funny Funguloids! game

Hello Linas

I noticed that the title of bug #428718 changed from RFP to ITP, but
it

seems that this was done in automated manner.

No, I changed it.

Is this the case, or is
somebody really intending to package this game?

I was.

If this is in fact an error, I am willing to package it.

Please go ahead, I've got enough of other things to do.
Tell me when you have a working package, I'd be glad
to help testing it :)

Bug#435002: ITP: randim -- Random Image Generation using Iterated Function Systems

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: randim
   Version : 0.5
Upstream Author: Adrian Robert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://interstitiality.net/ifs_f.html
* License : GNU GPL
Description : Random Image Generation using Iterated Function
Systems

This is an interactive fractal image generation program based on the
theory of iterated function systems as developed by M. F. Barnsley
(1988).
One well-known and remarkable image generated by this method is a
detailed
picture of a fern leaf (see, e.g., Gleick, 1987). It is remarkable
because
despite the amazing degree of detail present in the image -- enough to
render
it practically indistinguishable from a silhouette of the actual
natural shape
-- it is specified by just 4 sets of 6 numbers, each specified by one
or two
digits only. Roughly 80 bits of information to specify a complex
natural
shape! Perhaps even more amazing is the way in which these numbers
are used

to generate the image.

For the impatient:
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/randim/ (not quite finished, but working)

There's already a similiar program in Debian called evolvotron if
you're interested

in this sort of image generation...

Bug#512638: ITP: ttf-jura -- A monospaced, sans-serif font.

2009-01-22 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: ttf-jura
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Daniel Johnson (email not known yet, since the
contact form at openfontlibrary.org is broken)
* URL : http://openfontlibrary.org/media/files/Daniel_J/358
* License : SIL OFL 1.1
  Description : A monospaced, sans-serif font.
This font was originally inspired by work I was doing on a monospace Kayah Li
range (a Burmese minority script). As I continued to work on it, the Latin letters
assumed more and more of a "Swiss" feel, so I named the font after the Jura region
on the border between France and Switzerland.

.
Almost all of the Latin-1 range is represented (omitting only superscript
numerals, fractions, and the pilcrow).

you can find (sooner or later) a pre-version of the package at

Hi Gurkan.

My name is Daniel Johnson, and my email address is il.basso.bu...@gmail.com.

If you can wait a couple days, I will have a few more weights of the
font available. I created a Book weight, and am finishing off a
Medium weight.

On the other hand, if you are interested in this font because of the
Kayah Li support, those glyphs will be included in the next version of
FreeMono (http://www.gnu.org/software/freefont/).

Kayah Li is a minority script for the Red Karenni people of eastern
Burma (Myanmar). Because the Burmese government tends to persecute
minority populations, this writing system is only taught outside
Burma, primarily in refugee camps in Thailand.

I am currently looking into licensing options -- the Kayah Li glyphs
will be included in FreeMono, which is licensed under GPL3; but I'd
like this font to be OFL. I've asked the FreeFonts maintainer for
advice, so this should be resolved soon.

Bug#516724: ITP: grafx2 -- Ultimate 256-color bitmap paint program

2009-02-23 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: grafx2
  Version : 2.00b98.0
  Upstream Authors: Franck Charlet
Adrien Destugues
Sunset Design (Guillaume Dorme & Karl Maritaud)
Peter Gordon
Yves Rizoud
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/grafx2/
* License : GNU GPL 2
Description : Ultimate 256-color bitmap paint program
This is a bitmap paint program that allows you to draw in more than 60 video
resolutions (from 320x200 to 1024x768, including most of the standard Amiga
resolutions : 320x256, 320x512, 640x256, 640x512, etc... provided your videocard
knows how to handle them).

.
This program is dedicated to everybody who knows what a single pixel is. Its
layout is not very different from the famous Deluxe Paint or Brilliance, so it
will be quite easy to handle it if you know at least one of these programs. If you
aren't used to the art of drawing with up to 256 colors, it will be a little more
difficult for you, but you should give it a try (or more, because most of the
power of this program won't show up on the first try).

since I'm maintaining these packages anyway, it wouldn't mind doing that

However, I'm not a DD, so I need someone to sponsor me, right?
Are you proposing to do so? And if so, what is the first step to get me

I'm sorry I am not DD myself, but you're right. My sponsor is in the CC:

at it? It's scientific software, and our Physics people also need the software.
Any package available from Debian helps us a lot.

I see that you maintain "lie", together with Kasper Peeters.
Did you contact him about cadabra/modglue?

Yes I talked with him about it, but I had troubles packaging modglue.

There is an ITP bug about cadabra. To get it into Debian the changelog

Hello Kasper

I have meanwhile submitted packages for both modglue and cadabra to
the Ubuntu REVU site for approval. They are not yet through though,
and sit in a dormant state (it's incredibly hard to find sponsorship
for scientific software, I have to say). But if you are interested in
pushing the packaging for Debian, it is probably best to start from
those Ubuntu packages.

See http://revu.ubuntuwire.com for more details.

Thanks, I was able to find cadabra there, but where do you have the
modglue debian source packages?

Let me know what you plan to do (I have more or less given up on ever
getting this into an official Debian repository).

If nobody wants to maintain it inside Debian I would, but perferably
I would like someone else to do it.

Well, I'm still not sure I want to tie myself to the gnustep
libraries in this way; updating the snapshot on a weekly basis is in
itself a significant undertaking and the number of users interested
in a gnustep build is probably very low.

As I'm sure you realize, emacs-snapshot is not in Debian and its
packaging is different from the one used by the emacs22 maintainer
(who will probably also maintain emacs23 in Debian once it's
released). Having an emacs.app package in emacs-snapshot will not
help you much on the way to having it in Debian. (It would,
however, help in Ubuntu since Debian's emacs packages are not used
there.)

that's fine for me. i guess it's fine to build a separate emacs.app package,
as mentioned in #299324. i don't want a gnustep emacs build called -snapshot
it'll just be emacs.app version 23.0.x (source being taken from cvs).
i don't care about ubuntu if i'm honest.

Hi Gürkan

I am happy to see that you found the font and might be able to do
something good of it. Feel free to do necessary changes and do not
be hesitate to change glyphs that can be improved, many could be
drawn better then I did. Fontforge can be quite annoying to draw
with, you will save yourself some trouble by importing and exporting
glyphs to svg files and edit them with inkscape instead, Non the
less as you mentioned kearning has to be done with fontforge.

Since you already have the skill and knowledge to maintain packages,
can you put the next version on your page? I can put up a link to
your directory listing where the files can be downloaded.

Some things with this package is quite awkward (I accept all the
blame). It would be nice if you cold add a license file and drop the
html document before releasing it and probably several other
technical changes that you know of, I am completely unaware of them.

The condensed version might need more work, I think the stem width
is a little to thin and the innerspace of all glypths should be a
little less on a condensed version. I have no opinions on the exact
proportions, some experimenting might be necessary, not to mention
the huge work to actually edit each glyph. The angle of the oblique
variant as well as the with of the condensed one looks very good to me.

As time permits I would be glad to help and assist you with any
issues that come up. We can collaborate on a cvs/svn repository if
you like to. It is not trivial thou because when changing the shape
of a glyph all other steps such as kearning and hinting and might be
affected, this means that a strict work procedure must be followed
when creating a new version. I think you can overcome this obstacle.

Good work!

Johan Mattsson

  Description : Uncompress MO3 modules
The MO3 format means "MOdule with MP3", because the main initial idea was to
reduce the size of a module (in .mod, IT, XM) by compressing the samples using
MPEG audio layer 3. The samples can be compressed using OGG, MP3, and 2 kind of
specific lossless algorithms.

Bug#451128: License for unmo3

2007-11-13 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Bonjour Laurent

I wanted to package unmo3 for Linux (Debian and Ubuntu), but then I
have

read this README.txt:

This code is under GPLv2 license. Not for any commercial usage.

But if it's GNU GPL it allows commercial usage (if that ever is
possible, I have

no idea how, but selling it sure is permitted by GNU GPL):

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLCommercially

Do you think we can remove it and allow for distribution, even
commercial

(if someone ever manages to make money with it) or do you not want to
release it with the real, normal GNU GPL?

Regards,
Guerkan

PS: Actually it's already packaged, but needs to wait for your ok:

Bug#436492: fixes needed after the rejection

2007-11-21 Thread Gürkan Sengün

rejected, you missed to mention files with different licenses. Like
doc/KernelCompile. Or osprey/be/cg/orc_[ict|intel]/*. There are more,
its your job to list them all.

Also - the upstream tarball includes *a ton* of libraries. You want to
look at each if it is not already in Debian. If it is - use the
packaged

version, not the one included in the source. We (including security
team) can't support it if a random lib is included in tons of packages,
so this is usually strongly discouraged.

The upstream tarball does not have it either. They have it stored in a
CWEB file but extracting it from there is nontrivial and, frankly,
isn't worth the effort since the source is not going to change anymore
(it hasn't changed for more than 7 years now). Please take it as it

Someone else will have to do that then, I don't have time to dig

this.

The DFSG defines what is acceptable for main, and that simply says
"Source". There is no way to not follow this.

Incidentally, I suppose that the source itself will then also have to
be replaced with the CWEB sources, right?

2007-11-26 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: ttf-ocr-a
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : John Sauter
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/ocr-a-font
* License : Public Domain
Description : ANSI font readable by the computers of the 1960s
The OCR-A font was developed by the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI)
to be readable by the computers of the 1960s. The OCR-A font is still used
commercially in payment advice forms so that a lockbox company can determine
the account number and amount owed on a bill when processing a payment.
A site license for the OCR-A font is very expensive, so I undertook to create
a free font. I started with the MetaFont definitions, used FontForge and
potrace
to construct a TrueType font, then assigned each glyph a Unicode code point.
I visually compared the resulting character shapes with ANSI X3.17-1977.

I will figure a better long description when actually packaging the font,
feel free to read the rest of the ReadMe.txt at the homepage or at
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/ttf-ocr-a/ttf-ocr-a-1.0/ReadMe.txt

see macaulay get into the debian/ubuntu repositories as well. Let me
know if I can help somehow.

Best,

Bug#434489: [Fwd: forwarded message from AMS Technical Support]

2007-12-05 Thread Gürkan Sengün

 Original Message
Subject: forwarded message from AMS Technical Support

From: Kasper Peeters <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: G?ürkan Seng?ün <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi Gürkan,

If you intend to package cadabra, you will need to ensure that somehow
there is also a package for 'breqn'. I just received a message from
the AMS informing me that this LaTeX style has just been uploaded to
the CTAN archives in a somewhat improved and cleaned-up version, so it
is probably a good idea to start from there.

(The package which is on my cadabra web site right now makes use of an
older version which is strictly speaking not compatible with Debian
because of licensing issues not being spelled out explicitly; the new
version is lppl licensed).

Cheers,
Kasper

--- Begin Message ---

gentlemen,
our tech-support archive has a record that
all of you have inquired about breqn.

the attached message arrived in my mailbox
this morning.

breqn is now posted on ctan, and the license
should now be lppl.

This is an update of the mh bundle. The maintainer email address has
changed and some bugs have been fixed in mathtools.

More importantly, the mh bundle now also contains the breqn package
originally developed by the late Michael J. Downes of the American
Mathematical Society. I wish to thank the American Mathematical Society
for making this possible. See the breqn documentation for more
information.
