Bug#512829: O: pas2html -- tool to convert Pascal and Modula-2 sources to webpage

2009-01-24 Thread Sandro Tosi
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the pas2html package (lost interest).

The package description is:
The pas2html program is a syntax highlighter for Pas source code that
produces a highlighted html file as output. The output can be read by
any graphical WWW-Browser. If the browser understands the tags to
change font colors (as Netscape does) the output will look like
highlighted by emacs. Otherwise it will not look so nice, but
 readability is increased too.

Bug#512834: ITP: ocaml-autoconf -- autoconf macros for OCaml

2009-01-24 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Stefano Zacchiroli

* Package name: ocaml-autoconf
Upstream Author : Richard Jones, Stefano Zacchiroli, et al.
* URL : http://ocaml-autoconf.forge.ocamlcore.org/
* License : BSD (3-clauses)
  Programming Lang: m4
Description : autoconf macros for OCaml

RFC: this package will consists of just one file:
/usr/share/ocaml-autoconf/ocaml.m4 , and this puzzles me a bit as
overkilling. Nevertheless, I've no clue about how autoconf extensions
should be packaged, and my naive attempts to find similar packages in
the archive failed.

Nevertheless, I don't want to package this together with the compiler
itself, because it would become painful to update.

Any suggestions?

Package: autoconf-archive
Description: The Autoconf Macro Archive
The Autoconf Macro Archive aims to provide a central repository of
useful and tested Autoconf macros for software developers around the
world. This package contains the complete content of the Autoconf
Macro Archive as found at http://autoconf-archive.cryp.to/.

Ideally, you'd manage for the macro to be included in the package
upstream. :-)

Two files actually, because you'll want to include the man page.

FWIW in Fedora I just packaged the file in
/usr/share/ocaml-autoconf/ocaml.m4, and the man page tells people to
manually copy this file into their project.

This is analogous to how the other autotools work -- eg. look at
/usr/share/*/*.m4 and /usr/share/*/*/*.m4.

I thought about it, and discarded this option. Rationale: dh-ocaml is
targeted at debian package builders, ocaml-autoconf at application
builders (i.e. programmers).

Cheers.

halevt is a daemon that acts as a policy agent on top of HAL. It
listens to HAL events and reacts with user-configurable
actions. It is a reimplementation of the new dead ivman project.
 .
Among other things, halevt is useful as an automount daemon that will mount
removable devices but with a much smaller set of dependencies than tools such
 as gnome-volume-manager.

It's comparable to the standard library of other languages. This
should be mentioned in the description, though, probably instead of
software.

D had some history of having a non-free compiler (dmd). But I think
the other standard library (yes, there are actually two, Phobos and
Tango) is also open.

Description : GNU R low-level interface to Java

rJava is a base package used by other packages R packages interfacing Java.

With the difficulties we had in establishing a 'free' Java base to build this

Having rJava in the archive makes it easier to use (and/or package) other

  Description : Python Git library

Dulwich is a pure-Python implementation of the file formats and protocols
used by the Git version control system.
.
It can currently read existing Git repositories and write most objects.
The client and server support sending and receiving packs.
.
The main difference with e.g. python-git is that Dulwich provides a
direct implementation of the Git formats/protocols, rather than calling
out to the git command-line tools. This also gives a bit more control
over the low-level operations.

(Dulwich is required by bzr-git, ITP: #489169)

Bug#511613: ITA: libpam-pwgen -- a password generator

2009-01-24 Thread Antonio Radici

I had a look at the source code, it is reusing some code from
a tool called Java Password Generator:
http://www.multicians.org/thvv/gpw.html

Unfortunately the page does not state clearly how to handle
derivative work, so I sent the following mail to the author of
GPW asking him to license his code.

---
Subject: Java Password Generator license

Hi Tom,
I'm working on packaging a PAM module for debian, its code was written by Jan Rêkorajski, this is
the source code of the module:

http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libp/libpam-pwgen/libpam-pwgen_0.1.orig.tar.gz

The author claims in the README that he's using your code to generate some pronunceable passwords;
in the tar package there is a file called README.gpw and it also links to a webpage where you state
that your code can be used freely if the source is shared, if you are let known that it is used and
if we give you credit, this is the page:

http://www.multicians.org/thvv/gpw.html

Unfortunately what's needed for debian is a license which clearly defines what can/cannot be done
with your source code, how to handle derivative work and so on; based on this I can select which
branch of debian the pam_pwgen module can stay into (main, non-free, etc).

So, my question is: could you license that code with a 'free' license that states what can and
cannot be done with it? You could use Perl artistic, GPLv2, GPLv3, BSD or whatever licence you like
(it's your code, at end of the day), but it's really important to me to have a license.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to your reply.

Cheers
Antonio Radici
---

I'll wait for his reply and then I can package the code.

Cheers
Antonio

Bug#512916: ITP: [auto07p] -- a software for continuation and bifurcation problems in ordinary differential equations

2009-01-24 Thread Bastien ROUCARIES
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

   Package name: auto07p
Version: 0.6
Upstream Author: Eusebius Doedel
URL: http://indy.cs.concordia.ca/auto/
License: BSD with some part GPL
Description: AUTO is a software for continuation and bifurcation problems
in ordinary differential equations.
AUTO can do a limited bifurcation analysis of algebraic systems of the form
f(u,p) = 0,f,u in Rn
and of systems of ordinary differential equations of the form
u'(t) = f(u(t),p),f,u in Rn
subject to initial conditions, boundary conditions, and integral
constraints. Here p denotes one or more parameters. AUTO can also
do certain continuation and evolution computations for parabolic PDEs.
It also includes the software HOMCONT for the bifurcation analysis of
homoclinic orbits. AUTO
is quite fast and can benefit from multiple processors; therefore it is
applicable to rather large systems of differential equations.

I don't have more time to mantain this package. If you want, get free
to take it.

Description below:

+Description:
+ Unit testing allows you to write small test methods which verify units of
+ functionality in your program. It is a powerful technique for improving the
+ quality of your software, preventing regressions, and allowing confident
+ refactoring of your code.
+ .
+ PHPUnit is a unit testing suite for the PHP language, modelled on the xUnit
+ testing framework, designed by Kent Beck and Erich Gamma. If you've used
+ JUnit (for Java), PyUnit (for Python), CxxUnit (for C++), or any of the
+ other equivalents for other languages, the API for this package should seem
+ fairly familiar. If you've never written unit tests before, the PHPUnit
+ API is simple to learn and use.

Thanks for your ITP. If you say: "This *is* packaged" could
you please send any URL? There is a former attempt to package
Jmol in our SVN:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-escience/jmol/trunk/debian/?rev=0&sc=0

but this concerns a previous version. Do you have your work
anywere publicly available?

Kind regards

  Andreas.
