Bug#436550: RFA: glipper - A clipboard manager for GNOME

2007-08-08 Thread Neil Williams
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Glipper is currently my package in Debian at 0.95.1-3 and that version
is written in C and uses a binary data file which has raised one bug
(#436078).

There is now a new release that closes this bug, my problem is that
v1.0 is a ground-up rewrite in Python! Essentially, glipper v1.0 is a
completely different package internally. (Previous translations have
also been lost.)

I have no python experience, no python packages and no ability to do
anything if (when) python code goes wrong. I don't want to have to
learn python just for glipper (don't have time).

So - I don't see what I can do except request adoption of glipper, it
just seems so weird to leave a package which is active while I am also
active.

Anyone fancy taking on glipper?

I don't think there's any point retaining the old C package - that code
is already dead upstream.

Currently, there is no RCS for the debian packaging for glipper - I was
using CDBS and the current watch file needs editing to look for a
tar.bz2 instead of the previous tar.gz.

There is an issue with migrating from 0.95.1 to 1.0 - the ~/.glipper
directory needs to be removed.

Glipper v1.0 is also now GNOME only, support for other window managers
has not been implemented in the python version.

Hi,

I am wondering how you will manage 'source' on blogspot.com? sf.net is
really good option for a package, if you want tools like version
control etc.

I mean, upstream version not Debian package :)

It's only a problem of the debian package. Because of the Debian Free
Software Guidelines I have to split the source into free and non free
parts and patch the build system. This causes autogen.sh to rerun and I
then the patches don't apply corrctly the second time. So nothing to
worry about for you.

Hi,

I intend to adopt the glipper package, I will glad to take care of it.
I do have a reasonable amount of experience with python, even if I
don't know very well the gnome packaging policy, yet.

If my usual sponsor is not interested, can I contact you?

Hmm, the same problems affect sponsoring as affect maintaining it
myself. See http://people.debian.org/~codehelp/#lang

It's an unusual situation - normally the previous DD is the ideal
person to sponsor the new maintainer adopting the package. The problem
here is that the new upstream version of glipper is a completely new
application in nearly all relevant aspects. If there is anything I can
do with regard to migrating from the old glipper package to the new, I
will help out, of course. I can't really sponsor the new version
because it merely shares the same name as the package I maintained,
almost nothing of that codebase remains. :-(

I would recommend that you work with http://mentors.debian.net where
you will find sponsors who are able to work with python. Also, please
treat the new glipper package as if it was NEW and ask your sponsor to
do the same.

With luck, they'll _all_ be optional updates from here on out.

I actually started preparing packges (the art package is already
uploaded) but they've managed to break the build system on
non-x86/non-AMD64 upstream, and I'm hoping to get some idea of how
they're going to fix it before I go ahead and implement a fix of my own.

I've also been a bit lax, since there was a huge amount of negative
feedback on the release notes announcement blog entry, and I was holding
back a bit to see if there was going to be any kind of quick response to
that feedback.

If we do end up having the same problems, people can always roll back to
1.18.0, thankfully. ^_^

I can't promise anything before the weekend, things have gone a little
hectic here this week.

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the RFP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the RFP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a body text like this:

 reopen 333690

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be truly welcomed.

you on this: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the ITP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your ITP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the ITP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a body text like this:

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to

you on this: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Bug#436798: ITP: libdir-purge-perl -- it implements functions to reduce the number of files in a directory according to a strategy.

2007-08-08 Thread Deepak Tripathi

Package: wnpp

* Package name  : libdir-purge-perl
Version : 1.02
Upstream Author: Johan Vromans <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL  : http://search.cpan.org/~jv/Dir-Purge-1.02/
* License : GPL
Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Dir::Purge implements functions to reduce
the number of files in a directory according to a strategy. It currently
provides one strategy: removal of files by age.

By default, the module exports one user subroutine: |purgedir|.

The first argument of |purgedir| should either be an integer, indicating
the number of files to keep in each of the directories, or a reference
to a hash with options. In either case, a value for the number of files
to keep is mandatory.

The other arguments are the names of the directories that must be
purged. Note that this process is not recursive. Also, hidden files
(name starts with a |.|) and non-plain files (e.g., directories,
symbolic links) are not taken into account.

All directory arguments and options are checked before anything else is
done. In particular, all arguments should point to existing directories
and the program must have read, write, and search (execute) access to
the directories.

One additional function, |purgedir_by_age|, can be exported on demand,
or called by its fully qualified name. |purgedir_by_age| calls
|purgedir| with the "by age" purge strategy preselected. Since this
happens to be the default strategy for |purgedir|, calling
|purgedir_by_age| is roughly equivalent to calling |purgedir|

Bug#436800: ITP: libdevel-gdb-perl -- The Devel::GDB package provides an interface for communicating with GDB.

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/~jezra/Devel-GDB-2.0/

 Programming Lang: Perl
Description : The |Devel::GDB| package provides an interface for
communicating with GDB. Internally, it uses the /GDB/MI/ interpreter (see
http://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb_25.html),
which accurately informs the caller of the program state and, through
the use of tokens, guarantees that the results returned actually
correspond to the request sent. By contrast, GDB's /console/ interpreter
returns all responses on |STDOUT|, and thus there is no way to ensure that a
particular response corresponds to a particular request.

Therefore, it is obviously preferable to use GDB/MI when
programmatically interacting with GDB. This can be done via the
|send_cmd| family of functions (|send_cmd|, |send_cmd_excl|, and
|send_cmd_async|). There are, however, some cases when there is no
GDB/MI command corresponding to a particular console command, or it has
not yet been implemented (for example, |-symbol-type|, corresponding to
the console command |ptype|, is not yet implemented as of GDB 6.6). In
this case, the |get| function provides a workaround by capturing all
output sent to the console stream.
