Description : DVD-to-divx;-) ripper frontend for GNOME with CSS support

Drip is a DVD to DIVX conversion application. It's made up out two
applications: a DVD reader and a DIVX encoder. The reader is a GUI for the
GNOME environment, the DIVX encoder a text mode tool. You wont have to
learn to use the textmode tool, because the GUI also is a frontend for it.

(please package them as separate binaries)

Drip is not yet usable for NTSC (Region1) DVDs because those are prepared
differently as PAL DVDs.

This package is more useful with libdvdcss (ITP#154281) so that you can make
backup copies of the DVDs you legaly own despite of that annoying CSS
protection.

Even though, it's pointful to have it without libdvdcss, for example to
rip dvds without CSS protection or for general divx encoding, so there's
no need to wait for it.

Description : show where your diskspace is being used

Allows you to understand exactly where your diskspace is being used
by graphically representating your filesystem as a set of concentric
 segmented-rings.

[The description sucks; you kind of have to see it, to appreciate it -
suggestions for an improved description welcome.]

Description : Remove hot spots from JPEG images with minimal quality loss

Jpegpixi is short for "JPEG pixel interpolator". It is a command-line
utility which interpolates pixels in JFIF images (commonly refered to
as "JPEG images"). This is useful to correct images from a digital
 camera with CCD defects.
 .
Jpegpixi tries to preserve the quality of the JFIF image as much as
possible. Most graphics programs decode JFIF images when they are
loaded, and re-encode them when they are saved, which results in an
overall loss of quality. Jpegpixi, on the other hand, does not decode
and re-encode the image, but manipulates the encoded image data.

  Description : java assembler compiler

Jasmin is a Java ASseMbler INterface. It takes ASCII descriptions for
Java classes, written in a simple assembler-like syntax and using the
Java Virtual Machine instruction set. It converts them into binary Java
class files suitable for loading into a JVM implementation.

For the ones wondering why the info above ITP looks so strange: there
exists the original jasmin, GPLed, and more actively maintained
jasmin-sable, which is LGPLed (was relicensed at some point by the
original author). There are some issues that I am trying to clear out
now, so cannot say which version will eventually be packaged.

PS: Bcc:ing d-d directly as Evo doesn't allow me to add headers :-(

Description : Perl extension to create simple calendars

A very simple module that exports one functions called
calendar(). This function returns a data structure representing the
dates in a month. The data structure returned is an array of array
references. The first level array represents the weeks in the
month. The second level array contains the actual days. By default,
each week starts on a Sunday and the value in the array is the date
of that day. Any days at the beginning of the first week or the end
of the last week that are from the previous or next month have the
 value undef.
 .
If the month or year parameters are omitted then the current month or
 year are assumed.
 .
A third, optional parameter, start_day, allows you to set the day
each week starts with, with the same values as localtime sets for
wday (namely, 0 for Sunday, 1 for Monday and so on).

Description: User binaries for a GSM speech compressor.
Contains user binaries for libgsm, an implementation of the European
GSM 06.10 provisional standard for full-rate speech transcoding,
 prI-ETS 300 036, which uses RPE/LTP (residual pulse excitation/long
term prediction) coding at 13 kbit/s.
 .
GSM 06.10 compresses frames of 160 13-bit samples (8 kHz sampling
rate, i.e. a frame rate of 50 Hz) into 260 bits; for compatibility
with typical UNIX applications, our implementation turns frames of 160
 16-bit linear samples into 33-byte frames (1650 Bytes/s).
The quality of the algorithm is good enough for reliable speaker
recognition; even music often survives transcoding in recognizable
form (given the bandwidth limitations of 8 kHz sampling rate).
 .
The interfaces offered are a front end modelled after compress(1), and
a library API. Compression and decompression run faster than realtime
on most SPARCstations. The implementation has been verified against the
 ETSI standard test patterns.

Description : Create zTXT databases from ASCII files to read them in a
Palm

A simple commandline program that takes a plain ASCII text file and
compresses it into a zTXT database. Makeztxt will remove newline
characters at the end of lines that contain text so that the paragraphs
flow better on the Palm screen. Makeztxt supports the use of regular
expressions to automatically generate a list of bookmarks for you.
Lastly. makeztxt can also break an existing zTXT file into its
components (text, bookmarks, annotations) and store them into separate
files.

zTXT databases can be opened by the GPLed WeaselReader program in your

Bug#201411: Proposed packages to remove from testing

That's not true. I'll paste here some informations gathered upstream and
with mails with Ingo Saitz. These mails were sent a month ago, december
17 and december 21. Upstream proposed the release of a special debian
version of the game, with no more copyrighted problems, but he has no
time for this for the moment. And I don't really trust his way of
telling if things are free or not. I put Ingo and John on the CC: list
for that matter.

Hope this will help you :)

Here you can see the problem with the graphics. He considers them not an
issue, since he modified their size (and their color depth, if I remember
another mail I can't find now).

Here are the non-free sounds :) The mail below was sent to me by Ingo Saitz,
who wanted to take over the package (one of the three):

I guess thats the best solution available right now. The project

I not up do date with subversion yet. I have converted the denemo 0.6.0-2
version from sid to 0.7.2a, using cdbs and tarballs now ..
If you have updates on 0.6.0, I would like to take a look
(Which gives me a reason to look into subversion too :)

  Package name: jack-tools
  Version : 0.0.1-1
  Upstream Author : Rohan Drape <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  URL :
  License : GPL
Description : various JACK tools: plumbing, play, udp, ctl, scope, clock

This collection contains a bunch of small tools for JACK written by Rohan
Drape for the JACK low latency audio API.
 .
JACK allows the connection of multiple applications to an audio device,
as well as allowing them to share audio between themselves.
 .
jack.plumbing maintains a set of port connection rules and
manages these as clients register ports with JACK. Port names are
implicitly bounded regular expressions and support sub-expression
 patterns.
 .
jack.play is a light-weight JACK sound file player. It
creates as many output ports as there are channels in the input file.
 .
jack.udp is a UDP audio transport mechansim for JACK. The
send mode reads signals from a set of JACK input ports and sends
UDP packets to the indicated port at the indicated host at a rate
determined by the local JACK daemon. The "recv" mode reads
incoming packets at the indicated port and writes the incoming data to
a set of JACK output ports at a rate that is determined by the local
 JACK daemon.
 .
jack.ctl is a JACK session manager. It reads configuration information
from a system wide and a user specific configuration file and
manages sessions involving the JACK daemon proper and optionally a
 set of secondary jack daemons.
 .
jack.scope draws either a time domain signal trace or a self
correlation trace. Multiple input channels are superimposed, each
channel is drawn in a different color. jack.scope accepts
OSC packets for interactive control of drawing parameters.
 .
jack.clock publishes the transport state of the local JACK server as OSC
packets over a UDP connection. jack.clock allows any OSC enabled
application to act as a JACK transport client, receiving
sample accurate pulse stream timing data, and monitoring and
 initiating transport state change.
 .

Description : display versions of Debian packages in an archive

This program inspects a local Debian package archive and displays the
versions of the given packages found in each suite (for example, stable,
testing, or unstable) in a brief but easily human-readable form. It aims
to be a drop-in replacement for the madison utility from the da-katie
archive management suite that runs on the central Debian archive
systems, but one which can run without access to the archive's SQL
database.

I've been running this on gluck for a while, and it works well, but it
does require a certain amount of disk space:

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ du .madison-lite
  13792 .madison-lite/cache
  13800 .madison-lite

Before I upload this I'll add an example script or something that
downloads Packages and Sources files from a mirror so that you don't
have to maintain a full local mirror to use it.

Cheers,

Description : An X11 Common Lisp client library for SBCL

CLX is a low-level X11 client library for Common Lisp. CLX is to Lisp what
 Xlib is to C.
 .
This version of CLX originated in a CMUCL distribution, was modified in order
to make it compile and run under SBCL and was enhanced with some features from
other CLX implementations. It currently runs only on SBCL, but might be
ported to other Common Lisp implementations.

Bug#230121: ITP: metalog -- a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd

2004-01-28 Thread Adam Byrtek
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: metalog
  Version : 0.7
Upstream Author : [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://metalog.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
Description : a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd

The metalog package was in Debian once, but it was recently removed.
According to Martin Michlmayr:

---quote---
This package has been removed from Debian unstable because it was
unmaintained, old and according to the maintainer quite obsolte and
useless.
---quote---

I will try to comment this:

- unmaintained
I'll try to maintain it better then the previous maintainer...

- old
The last release (0.7) is dated April 2003, we have tons of older
software in the archive, so I don't see the point.

- obsolete & useless
Martin or the maintainer didn't give any arguments I could discuss. I
think metalog is very useful, especialy for desktop systems because of
its simplicity, regex matching support and built-in log rotation. The
only problem I'm aware of is the lack of network logging support.
metalog didn't have any RC bugs either...

I'm a bit confused that it was removed from the archive without any
real reason (as far as I know).

Any comments?

Adam Byrtek

I intend to orphan the libnet-patricia-perl package.
The package description is:
This module uses a Patricia Trie data structure to quickly
perform IP address prefix matching for applications such as
IP subnet, network or routing table lookups. The data
structure is based on a radix tree using a radix of two, so
sometimes you see patricia implementations called "radix" as
well. The term "Trie" is derived from the word "retrieval"
but is pronounced like "try". Patricia stands for
"Practical Algorithm to Retrieve Information Coded as
Alphanumeric", and was first suggested for routing table
lookups by Van Jacobsen. Patricia Trie performance
characteristics are well-known as it has been employed for
routing table lookups within the BSD kernel since the 4.3
 Reno release.

Bug#216035: Possibly adopt?

2004-01-28 Thread Wesley W. Terpstra
My girlfriend has a USB prism2 card for her laptop.
She has been running 2.4.21 for some time, waiting for new wlan modules.
I only realized today they were not coming b/c it was orphaned.

It seems to me that 2.6 does not support her card.
Can you confirm this? If so, then I plan to adopt this package.

I don't know anything about hostap functionality though, and I am
considering dropping this functionality. Would it be missed?

Thanks.

Hmmm, funny. Milan P. Stanic has set an ITA some weeks ago. Please see
#222965 (I'm quoting the whole mail for him to see). I'm sponsoring
him, his last package still contained errors, but already looks
promising. Since he was first, can you please talk directly to him?
Maybe you could work at it together (although I don't see a reason for
this, its a very easy package). You could also be his sponsor if you
want, I do not intend to use metalog (I have syslog-ng since I need
some features from it).

Have a nice day!

Martin

Package: wnpp

  Package name: libhidparser
  Version : 1.01
Upstream Author : MGE UPS Systems <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
  URL : http://www.mgeups.com/opensource/projects/hidparser.htm
  License : GPLv2
Description : the MGE parser library for USB HID interfaces

To help and improve the support of Human Interface Devices (HID) on any
platform, via USB or serial links, MGE UPS Systems have released their own
HID parser under the GPLv2.=20

The parser presents a human interface device as an object tree, similar to =
an
SNMP tree. The HID protocol is mostly used for USB devices (such as
keyboards, mice, UPSs and monitors), but may also be used over a serial lin=
k.

The packages are here:

  http://people.debian.org/~madduck/stage/pool/libhidparser

Unless I hear objections, I will upload next week.

* Package name: loop-aes-ciphers-source
  Version : 2.0b
  Upstream Author : Jari Ruusu <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://loop-aes.sourceforge.net/ciphers
* License : GPL
Description : Ciphers for the loop-aes encryption Linux kernel module

This package contains the source code required to build the loop-aes-ciphers
loadable Linux kernel modules for your Linux kernel. These modules are
intended to be used with the loop-aes-source package, for which they
 provide additional ciphers.
 .
The supported ciphers are Blowfish, Twofish and Serpent. Using these
ciphers, loop-aes can access encrypted volumes that were created by a
 cryptoapi (kerneli.org) module.
 .
Kernel source is required to compile these modules.

I'm looking for a sponsor for this package. Until it's uploaded to the
archive, you can find the package here or on my website.
