don't have enough free space
Hi, This is my first post and help call :) I just installed Debian I did exit without installing any packages - had to install it 3 times and didn't want to risk another glitch while installing packages. Anyway the basic system seams to work now, but I have following problem I ran tasksel from the shell prompt and selected one program but it exits with following error: E: Sorry, you don't have enough free space in /var/cache/apt/archives to hold all packages. I have 3 partions on my drive of a total 7.5 GB Could it be that it only uses 2 partions? How do I fix this? _ Gruessle -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Redhat to Debian conversion
I am new to Linux and for 2 1/2 days I been trying to install Debian. Well I have the very basics installed but that is really all I got. Now I have Redhat and that is easy to install. Somewhere I read that it is posible to convert a Redhat install to Debian. I am wondering if that is maybe easyer then installing Debian. Logbook - RCS
I found following in the "Configuration HOWTO" manual. My question is what software do U use as Logbook and what in RCS? 2.2. Start the Logbook! To keep your installation in shape, it's essential that you know exactly what happened to your machine, which packages you installed that day, what you removed or modified, and so on. So, the first thing you'll do before you tamper with your machine is start a ``logbook''. Therein you'll take note of every move you make as root; in my own logbook I also keep a section where I list all modified system files, additional .rpms, and .tar.gz I installed. Optimally, backtracking your moves you should be able to re-obtain a fresh installation. Make a backup copy of the system files you touch. Better still, use RCS; you'll be able to backtrack all changes. Never work as root without logging your moves! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? XFree86 problem
I am back to XFree86 - once I get this going I will make 10 backups of it. When I run XFree86 -configure screen blends out - doesn't do anything for a long time and then it reboots. IP to www
I have everything Debian related working and would like to thank you guys for all your help. It was a real pleasure, reminded me off my old days with my Commodore 64 and later Amiga time. Linux is a fun chaos like the Commodores always have been. I should have discovered this years ago when I left the Amiga behind and changed to MSFT. I hate MSFT and have now found a good alternative, thanx again. In return if there is someplace I can vote or write a revue for Debian let me know. This is now getting out of the Debian scope. If you guys think I should go somewhere else with these questions then let me know. I know what my given IP address is. Given by my cable company. .htaccess question
I have a lot of large files deep in directories berried like this: http://myserver.com/shop/more/even/more/images/1-999/ http://myserver.com/shop/more/even/more/images/1000-1999/ http://myserver.com/shop/more/even/more/images/2000-2999/ http://myserver.com/shop/more/even/more/images/1-10999/ etc. What I like to do is move those files out to http://myserver.com/images/1-999/ http://myserver.com/images/1000-1999/ http://myserver.com/images/2000-2999/ http://myserver.com/images/1-10999/ etc. The problem is that I am running oscommerce and oscommerce gets his image files from that location. Is there a way I can use .htaccess to redirect oscommerce to get the files from the new location? If so how? Or is there a better solution? Why do I wont that? Because I like to be able to ftp the oscommerce directory back and forth without having to ftp those images back and forth. Maybe this will help: > > http://newbiedoc.sourceforge.net/general/main-glossary.html#SY MLINK-GLOSS The basic idea is that you want to create a link to the new directory in the place that the old directory was. For example, you might do something like this: mv shop/even/more/images . ln -s ../../../images shop/even/more Sorry but I still don't get it Your mv line will move everything in shop/even/more/images into where (to root I guess) Then your ls line will list what? And how is that going to link stuff? Gruessle -- http://VMCLinks.com http://GuyScope.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? access denied
I get access denied when I try to make a folder from my win2000 machine on my Debian user folder \\Rebel\tamer\public_html Rebel is my Debian box tamer is my user name and a folder in /home/tamer/ public_html is my web folder in /home/tamer/public_html Now when I access my Debian from my win2000 box via \\Rebel\tamer\ I get to see what is actually in /home/tamer/ but I can't create any folders in there only see what is in there. I guess I have to change access permissions for group tamer Is that correct? yes tamer is my user name but there is also a group called tamer How do I do that? However I can do all that from the Debian machine. Does this still sound like the problem you had and do you still think it has to do with fstab? I am asking because there is one option about mounting partitions from remote systems. An option called nfs. I guess my cable company is blocking access to that IP somehow. But on the other hand my Software firewall used to get scanned sometimes You know when I check the log file I can see that it got scanned That was before I set-up the Firewall in my router So if someone can scan the ports on my computer then he must be getting in somehow. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". still access denied
I get access denied when I try to make a folder from my win2000 machine on my Debian user folder Last time there was a confusion so let me say that rephrased again: Only when I access the Debian machine over the local network from a win2000 I can read but have no writing privileges. On WIN2000 folders with no write access are light colored But I have no write access on light and dark colored files and folders. I am using Samba to network I have set chmod on public_html to 40777 \\Rebel\tamer\public_html Rebel is my Debian box tamer is my user name and a folder in /home/tamer/ public_html is my web folder in /home/tamer/public_html Now when I access my Debian from my win2000 box via \\Rebel\tamer\ I get to see what is actually in /home/tamer/ but I can't create any folders in there only see what is in there. floating screen
I did goggle for floating screen and floating display I don't know what else to look for you tell me what you would call this. If I change resolution with "Ctrl Alt + or -" to a smaller resolution I do get bigger everything, but my display bust out of the screen boundaries and when I move my mouse to one side it will float over so that I can see the side which I moved the mouse too. I know if you never had that happen to you everything I just sad must sound crazy. But trust me some people actually know what I am talking about. It is something normal I used to have the same problem on my Amiga 1200. So how do fix this at the moment I have too small fonts, can't read the stuff, need to get to 1024x768 resolution Gruessle -- http://VMCLinks.com http://GuyScope.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
