Bug#285223: konqueror: Crashes always at startup when it is already in memery
Package: konqueror Version: 4:3.3.1-2 Severity: important Hello, I notice that konqueror crashes always when I try to launch it, if it is already in memory. So, it crashes, then it is unloaded from memory (this is logic, since it crashes), then I can launch it again without problem. But if I close it, then try to reload it, it crashes again (since it was stayed in memory). If I disable "stay in memory" option (I set "maximal preloaded konqueror" to 0), it never crashes. I can enable "Reduce memory usage" without problem. All what I say here is really reproductible on my system : so that's strange I don't find any bug report yet. Thanks for the report. This is a very nasty bug, so if anyone can test this patch (it's tiny) against the current kdepim package in Sid, and confirm that it works (I don't use IMAP myself), I'd be tempted to add it to the pending kdepim upload, unless of course a KDE team member objects. Any idea when we'll see KDE 3.3.2 in sid? I know that you guys are working hard on getting 3.3.1 into sarge, so I'm not expecting the packages instantly. Still. 3.3.2 has some nice fixes to khtml and konqueror that fix some rendering errors on certain web sites (gmail and Ars Technica forums, for example.) As I mentioned in the LKF, once the immediate problems with the current packages are fixed, we were planning to work on 3.3.2 packages, but rather than uploading to Sid, which would prevent 3.3.1 from entering Sarge, we would upload to a temporary repository (which would no doubt be announced on these lists). Any upload should also address the issue of kmail taking too long to build on some archs and timing out the buildd's. Any suggestions on that? (I think that possibly what's going on is that the build uses too much virtual memory and starts thrashing, but I'm not sure whether building those one at a time will help at all.) -- Daniel Schepler "Please don't disillusion me. Any suggestions on that? (I think that possibly what's > going on is that the build uses too much virtual memory and starts > thrashing, but I'm not sure whether building those one at a time will > help at all.) OK. I'm building a package that will also include the IMAP fix posted earlier. It will be uploaded late tonight or tomorrow at http://chrsmrtn.freeshell.org/kde, for the purpose of facilitating user feedback on the patch. It would be great if you could look at it as well. BTW, if gnokii support goes, is there any need for libbluetooth in the build-deps? It doesn't seem to get used without gnokii, but I wanted to check before taking it out as well. Bug #270963 may be related to the problem. Today, a build on my own machine (i386) successfully included gnokii/bluetooth, but a build (also today) by the powerpc buildd didn't, so I'm not sure what is really going on. In any case, gnokii has an unresolved RC bug (licensing...) that may well not be resolved for some time. The package has been removed from testing, so even if kdepim 3.3 eventually builds on all architectures, it won't be allowed into Sarge. I've never really used many of kaddressbook's features, so I have no idea if bluetooth support should be included (and fixed to be built on architectures other than hppa and m68k) if gnokii support isn't. Thus, if you could upload kdepim with gnokii (and bluetooth???) support disabled, then we should be another step closer to getting 3.3 into Sarge. If you can't do this for whatever reason, if would be great if you could let the list know, so someone else could fix it. Bug#285261: konqueror-nsplugins: Crash when arts is disabled
Package: konqueror-nsplugins Version: 4:3.3.1-3 Severity: important When I try to access a web page where there is a flash item, nspluginviewer crashes if arts is disabled. It works always properly if arts is enabled. It's not easy to reproduce it on a web page, but it always crashes when I test with a flash game which makes sounds. Thankyou, looks like it should work, I'll compare it with my guesses tomorrow and try it out :) Might need to make it "kdelibs4 libarts1" for the full KDE effect perhaps ? $ comm -12 <(apt-cache rdepends kdelibs4 libarts1 | tr -d ' ' | sort -u) \ <(grep-status -Fstatus 'install ok installed' -ns package | sort) Nick
