Cool!

You can upload yourself, just upload mentionioning "QA Upload" and use a
regular maintainer version number, no need to change anything to
debian/control. lintian provides some basic checks for QA Uploads.

If you don't upload, someone else will probably do it in one of the
following days.

Thanks for your really swift actions :).

Eh, this is *very* obviously a problem on your side.

To begin with:

This is a bug in dpkg, or on your side.

Eh, you didn't even start to build. From this I conclude you're
autobuilding and automatically sending out mails of failures without any
human screening. I suggest you at least do some human screening of build
failures before sending out automated mails like this.

This is a regression: Changelog:
: eggdrop (1.6.16-2) unstable; urgency=high
[...]
: * Changed LANGDIR on src/eggdrop.h (Closes: #254824)

An updated patch for this issue (against 1.6.20) is attached.

Without messages the bot is unusable by anybody but very experienced
operators, and may even be dangerous! (It detaches from the console and
may continue running in the background without the user being made
aware, allowing the first user who finds it on IRC to take control.)
I suggest upping the severity for this bug.

Gecko-mediaplayer v.1.0.4-2 fails to embed in Iceweasel 6.0-1.
When iceweasel is opened in a terminal and trying to watch a video, I get

Using player backend of '(null)'
DBUS connection created

and nothing more!
On some sites gecko-mediaplayer appears, but not embedded as it should,
and also does nothing.
Reverting to version 0.9.9.2-1, no such problem, it embeds showing the video.

Bug#532806: beep-media-player: crashes when file with comma-containing name is dragged+dropped to it

Note that Beep Media Player is not maintained anymore for 4 years.
Because of this, BMP is not a part of Debian anymore since the release
of Etch or shortly thereafter[1].

This bug report ends up with me because I used to be the sponsor of the
maintainer which has also left the project. I am afraid this bug will
not be fixed. Note that the successor of BMP is considered to be
Audacious[2] which is still actively maintained and a part of Debian,
though it's probably slightly different than what you are used to.
Still, I suggest you try it out. :)

Kind regards,
Paul

I've noted your request in a wishlist bug, but currently, noteedit
doesn't really have a maintainer ([EMAIL PROTECTED] is just a
placeholder for such packages so they get the minimum attention needed
if someting urgent comes up).

In http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=268206 you can see
talk about removing noteedit, but with this new version, this might be
not needed anymore.

Thank you for continuing to work on noteedit, I hope that Paul Brossier

are the official maintainers (according to apt-cache show noteedit) of
the Debian package, we'd be interested if you could update the existing

- - rests can have fermatas
- - many improvements in LilyPond export filter (many bugs squashed, 2.4.x
syntax compatible, bar numbers printed in non-first voices, much nicer
outlook of the file)
- - added Slovenian translation
- - many bugs and some startup crashes concerning ALSA fixed

Orphaned package's bugs are not closed, only when the package is really
purged from the archive, this happens. The amount of those bugs simply
does in no way warrant an extra state.

Debian isn't a collection place for *all* bugs in the GNU/Linux world.
As the social contract says, we'll do our best to inform upstream
authors etc, and we specificly won't ever delete a bug report, but once
a bug is closed, it's no longer relevant for Debian, and it'd be much
overkill

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't help you, please file bugs on the
packages you mention to not work (http://bugs.debian.org, or use
reportbug), and/or ask debian-user@lists.debian.org for more advice on
this issue.

I'm making it grave, as this package is basicly unmaintained (orphaned
since October 2004), and while in theory QA maintains these packages, in
practice only very occasionally work gets done on bugs. I try myself to
at least just read them, but that's not perfect either as I missed the
importance of this bug.

I'm Cc'ing the maintainers of the reverse depends, as their packages
risk removal if this bug is not resolved (hi exmh and topal
maintainers!). Please consider adopting this package as you depend on
it.

No, I'm sorry, the best way is to use mktemp and move it over with 'mv',
for example. Nevermind, I'm going to prepare an upload now.

This is eventually noted by the MIA effort of QA, possibly helped by
hints from users/other developers/whoever.

Yes.

Ultimately, yes.

Not for bugs in particular, but every DD can fix a bug when s/he really
wants by NMU'ing the package in question with a fix. If no DD has done
so far, none of them cares enough to spend the time on it, or either are
simply not aware. Debian is and remains an organisation of volunteers.

Ask on debian-qa or to [EMAIL PROTECTED] about this specific package
and/or maintainer, the situation will be investigated, and action
undertaken (usually, the maintainer is asked for comments, and one acts
on the reaction or either ultimately puts up the package for adoption by
anyone interested.

So, in general, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] privately when you're concerned a
certain package is unmaintained, or better if possible, offer your
assistance to the maintainer and see if that works. Filing patches is
always a good way to do so.

Package gstalker in stable superceded by qtstalker

2004-07-20 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar

Hello QA-team,

I am the maintainer of qtstalker, which has just entered unstable.
Qtstalker is upstream's successor to gstalker which is now orphaned in
woody (and not present in sarge/sid). One of gstalker's ex-maintainers
suggested I create a transitional package so users can migrate to qtstalker.

I'd like your opinion on how to go about this (I am in the NM-process,
so pardon my ignorance). Do I adopt gstalker, then create a new empty
Debian-only package (so as to not pull orig.tgz into unstable), with no
other function than a Depends on qtstalker, and upload that to unstable?

Note that there is no compatibility between Gstalker and Qtstalker,
except in the sense of the general functionality offered.

Hope you can help me on this.

Best regards,
Marco

A LICENSE file in the root of package surely implies it applies to the
whole tarball, doesn't it? I've *never* seen a package with a copyright
statement that listed the source files that were going with that
copyright... Thomas, can you name one package that does so?

Anyway, could you please continue this discussion on -legal? This isn't

I might be mistaken, but isn't it so that currently, if you accidently
have libktoblzcheck1-dev installed, the resulted binary is linked
against it, and otherwise, it isn't?

Then, isn't it true that this package either
1) needs to build-depends on libktoblzcheck1-dev
2) needs to build-conflicts on libktoblzcheck1-dev
3) needs to be ./configured to not link to libktoblzcheck1-dev, whether
   it's available or not?

Now the build may be significantly different depending on the builder's
installed
packages.

Policy:

| 4.7 Restrictions on objects in source packages
|
| The source package may not contain any hard links[19], device special
| files, sockets or setuid or setgid files.[20]

So you need to repack, as somebody else already suggested, and upload
0.6+2.nosetgid-0.1 (or something equivalent).

Note that this issue isn't in the RM's sarge-release-policy, that policy
is less strict, it only requires packages to be able to
_autobuild_, that is, build fine in a normal autobuild environment
(non-root, sane environment, and _with_ clean executed first). Since
this 'only' violates Debian's package policy, the bug is still present,
but severity important.

Outdated packages for contrib/non-free

2004-08-26 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Hello,

You are maintaining one or more contrib or non-free packages that are
currently on one or more architectures out of date. As long as that is
the case, the latest version of your package will not proceed to Sarge
automatically.

As contrib/non-free maintainer you're yourself responsable for getting
your package rebuild on all the architectures you're supporting. Over
time, a lot of these packages have collected builds for none of the
lesser used architectures, and now often nobody seems to really care
about these packages for these architectures anymore, holding up
progress to sarge this way.

I'd like to present soon a list to the ftp-masters of outdated
non-free/contrib packages that can have their obsolete architectures
removed. Of course I cannot just request removal of these packages
without the maintainer's consent, so please indicate asap that you're
okay with it! You can better write me personally as long as I've not yet
sent this list away, to prevent cluttering this mailinglist with lots of
removal requests -- something that it isn't meant to. Please indicate
any bugnumbers of bugs you've already filed, so they can be closed in
one go too.

If you have questions however, please do mail to an appropriate
mailinglist, and not to me personally.

Too much removals is not really a problem, if you can later find a
building for an arch, that one will be added without problems. However,
maybe the current version in testing have much more architectures, and
the sid version hasn't a worthwhile improvement, then you probably don't
want to remove packages for now...

Thank you for your cooperation,
--Jeroen

A QA-maintained (orphaned) package can never be a NMU, it is always a 'QA
upload', and should not have a '-2.1' type version number, but simply '-3'.

This is evidenced by the fact your upload still closed the bug (and didn't
merely tag it as fixed). It could however be more clear in the developers
reference.

Lintian warns about this, by the way.

Thanks for the upload,

Eh, it works fine. readlink returns nothing (and exits 1) if the link is
invalid or the path doesn't exist. If the path is already canonical,
it'll return it as-is.

By the way, you should probably drop the '/bin/' part, in Debian scripts
one does not qualify commands in general.

NMU? Honeymoon? The package is maintained by the QA group, and those
packages don't take NMU's, but rather only QA uploads. And QA group is
not in honeymoon.

Also, I noticed you changed the maintainer address to yourself (i.e.,
are adopting the package), without actually saying so in the changelog,
nor closing the wnpp bugs, which are by the way owned by somebody else.

What's going on here?

Are there any plans on making it use LDAPV3?

Because nobody did so -- the package is orphaned, it has no real
maintainer.

http://packages.qa.debian.org/gfax

If you want, you can become one, or pay someone to become the gfax
maintainer, and update it.

The other option is just to wait and hope someone else gets interested
enough to do so. It seems someone already showed interest, see the
referred bugreport.

It has been superseded by the free alternative hylafax (qpage was in
non-free), and therefore it was removed in september 2003. See #202538
for more information.

Also, considering the current release is 3.3, and was released may
12th, 1999 (last code change being july 1998 according to changelog),
it's apparantly isn't maintained upstream anymore.

Therefore, I think it'd be a bad idea to reintroduce this package in
Debian.

Nobody stood up to go and support cabot. I guess someone should ask for
removal from the archive: people seem to be happy with caff, as shipped
with the signing-party package. Laurent Fousse has the final word on

This address is for orphaned packages. You cannot NMU them, because
there is no maintainer. Instead, you can do a QA upload, which is a bit
like a NMU, but then without NMU version numbering, without asking
permission, etc. Use lintian to catch the most common issues in doing an
QA upload vs an NMU.

Anyway, your AM knows all about it, and could tell you more.

Considering the package's state, and the fact that's one major upstream
version behind (#259548), and that it has very few users according to
popcon, I wonder whether we're not better off just removing the package,
actually.

Bug#356373: ipw2200-source: new 1.1.2 debian package available

This package is orphaned, and does not have a maintainer at the moment.
You cannot NMU it, you can do an QA upload though (basicly the same,
except you use regular maintainer version number), or you can choose to
adopt it.

See http://packages.qa.debian.org/i/ipw2200.html

Anyway, seems as if ipw2200 is now in the kernel... that this package is
really best of removed, and effort concentrated on fixing the remaining
bugs in the regular kernel sources instead.

No. Well, Zak B. Elep <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> showed intent to adopt, so you
could drop him a line, and you could set owner of the wnpp but to
yourself to indicate that now you intent to adopt it, but that's more a
matter of politeness than technical requirement if you make an upload
soon.

Do ensure to properly document that you adopt it in the changelog and
close the WNPP bug from that very same changelog entry.

See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=214149 .
(Bugreport list Cc-ed). Of course, crm114_20031129-RC11-1_i386.deb is
build from a not-autoconfiscated upstream source.

I'd rather first spend my time on finishing proper autoconfiscation.
This will not only benefit Debian package maintainers, but also people
building RPM's and BSD ports.

However, building a new .deb from
crm114-20040102-1.0-SanityCheck-auto.1.tar.gz is likely very easy, just
make some minor adaptations to

Well, that I don't know what changed in that version? The changelog
doesn't describe the changes, which is in itself a policy violation.

If nothing changed, well, that should be in the changelog, otherwise,
the changes should be there. I just got that changelog entry mailed to
myself via list-aptchanges, and it annoyed me I don't know whether
something changed that I should be aware of.

Huh, why not? changelog entries which in retrospect fail to correctly
describe the change, or have typo's, or whatever, can very well be
(and IMHO should be) changed in a later upload. This is not uncommon
practice, in fact, quite some of Christian's changelogentries have
already be changed.

For example, compare the 2.4.0-6 entry in [1] with [2].

Subject: wlan question
Resent-From: debian-qa-packages@lists.debian.org

Hello,
I'm trying to get a wireless usb adapter (d-link dwl-122) to work on the
unstable version of Debian (x86) using it's default kernel - 2.4.25-1k7

I followed the FAQ: README.Debian and amn trying to build the kernel
modules with apt-src. Here are the steps I followed:

I installed the kernel source first:
apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.25

Since there is no /usr/src/linux I issued the following commands:
cd /usr/src
ln -s kernel-source-2.4.25 linux

I next installed apt-src:
apt-get install apt-src

Finally I get to the instructions...
apt-src import kernel --location=/usr/src/linux --version=2.4.18
cd /usr/src
apt-src --install-debs install linux-wlan-ng

At this point it complained that it could not find
/usr/src/linux/Debian/changelogs and errored out...

Can you please point me in the right direction on this one? I'm trying
to use Debian in pure apt mode to stay away from manually compiling.
The apt-src stuff seems to be a nice compromise. If you could point me
to some other instructions, I'd really appreciate it. I'd REALLY love
to get this to work on the 2.6 kernel.

Many thanks
Eric

I unsuccesfully tried to verify this by de-installing libxmu-dev and
building it until well into compile (but killed it then). Note that this
package doesn't depend on X at all, so really don't understand.

Aigars, if you file a FTBFS, please
- make it severity serious
- include the relevant parts of your build-log, since it can always be
something related to your specific system. Please do this for this bug
  by mailing to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

But a maintainer who actually understands this program should look into
this more carefully.

Marc Dequnes, can you please upload a new version RSN? Even if it only
fixes the maintainer field, that'd save QA from checking incoming bugs.
But preferebly fix the import bug that you already fixed in experimental
too.

Thanks,

Ah, I see.

gnome-panel should depend on all libraries it uses itself, and since the
code itself refers to a headerfile it doesn't build-depend on, it is a
bug.

It might have worked before because some build-dep used to depend on
xlibs-dev, but it still was a bug before that: you should not rely on
indirect build-dependencies pulled in, but only directly depend on
anything you need yourself.

Bug#1099034: kup-backup: bup kde-io plugin not working

2025-02-27 Thread Kris Van Heurck
Package: kup-backup
Version: 0.9.1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

kup-backup comes with a kio worker to access bup archives in kde apps, like
dolphin. This allows you to access bup repository with a bup:// like uri in
dolphin or other kde plasma apps.

This used to work fine, because I had made shortcut in Dolphin to access my
local bup backups (both made with kup-backup as with manual bup commands)
Recently I get the error message in dolphin saying: 'unkown protocol 'bup'

Bug#981496: svtools: ship with bullseye?

2023-02-04 Thread Joost van Baal-Ilić
Priority 981496 normal
Thanks

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for this notification, and sorry for not responding ealier. Chris filed
the original bug, but didn't indicate any actual breakage of the package. Age
alone would, afaik, not be a reason to stop shipping a package; nor would lack
of a formal maintainer be. These indeed _could_ indicate trouble with the
package (so thanks Chris for creating awareness), but are not sufficient for
blocking it from entering testing. No record of actual breakage is filed
upstream. Therefore I feel the priority of this bug should get lowered, and
svtools should get shipped with bullseye as-is.

Adjusting; and hoping I'm not too late here.

Bye,

Joost

Bug#704745: oidentd: gives invalidly formatted response (according to PostgreSQL)

2013-04-05 Thread Joost van Baal-Ilić
Package: oidentd
Version: 2.0.8-4
Severity: important

Hi,

I am using the ident method in PostgreSQL's pg_hba.conf. PostgreSQL (version
8.4.16-0squeeze1) complains about oidentd's response; in it's log it says:

2013-04-05 13:34:40 CEST LOG: invalidly formatted response from Ident server:
"52350,5432:ERROR:NO-USER
"

I've replaced oidentd with pidentd, using same PostgreSQL configuration (and no
configuration whatsoever of oidentd or pidentd). It now works just fine.

MMA package on debian

2009-06-29 Thread Bob van der Poel
I'm the author of the MMA package and the version on the servers is very
old. A newer one is on my website at http://www.mellowood.ca/mma which
includes a .deb.

The original maintainer of the package has abandoned doing the .deb MMA
thing.

So, how do I get this replaced on the servers in a easy to do fashion.

Re: MMA package on debian

2009-07-07 Thread Bob van der Poel
Hope you're the right fellows to be talking to about this ... if not, could
you direct me.

I've written the volunteer who said he wanted to package mma. No response.
And, I think the offer is quite old. So, what do I do next?

I'd really like to get the very old package out of the repositories. Plus,
I'm planning a new release later this week and it'd be nice to have that in
the system.

Right now I do have .deb on my site <http://www.mellowood.ca/mma/downloads>
http://www.mellowood.ca/mma/downloads.html if you want to verify it or
whatever.

Failing all that, I can just forget about supplying a .deb ... but I'm
trying to get as many folks as I can to easily use the package.

Best,

Because iceowl-l10n is in the first place for iceowl, what needs the
localisation-files on another location then iceowl-extension.

But you are right, it could be done in a new (big) set of binaries from
the iceowl-l10n source package.

OK, thanks for the info.

I will give it a try.

BTW: Enigmail is broken in unstable and the locales where removed from

Bug#352566: doxymacs: should put compiled files earlier on load-path

2006-02-12 Thread James R. Van Zandt
Package: doxymacs
Version: 1.6.0-3
Severity: normal

The directory with compiled files is *after* the directory with source
files on load-path:

   load-path's value is
   ("/home/jrv/share/emacs/site-lisp"
   "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/doxymacs"

   "/usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/pspp"
   "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/mgp/"
   ...

At present doxymacs is actually loaded (regardless of whether the user
is using it - bug#341091) before the source directory is added to
load-path, so it's the compiled files that are loaded. However, after
#341091 is fixed, the compiled files will be hidden. Please reverse
the order of the two additions to load-path.

Bug#958566: b43-fwcutter: Wifi Broadcom at BCM4311 very slow after installing new firmware-b43-installer_019-5_all.deb

2020-04-23 Thread Gert van de Kraats

Package: b43-fwcutter
Version: 1:019-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

After the recent upgrade to package firmware-b43-installer_019-5_all wifi
connection was extremely slow causing e.g. timeouts at Firefox.
This package contains firmware version 6.30.163.46
To solve the problem I had to reinstall firmware-b43-installer_019-4_all
with

firmware version 5.100.138.
Probably the new version is not compatible network controller BCM4311.

Bug#958566: Additional info

2020-04-23 Thread Gert van de Kraats

It is an old problem with version 6.30.163.46.

See e.g. https://bugs.gentoo.org/541080

Bug#958566: Wrong package name

2020-04-25 Thread Gert van de Kraats

I think it should be a bug to package firmware-b43-installer.

Bug#958566: Additional info

2020-04-28 Thread Gert van de Kraats

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless#b43

contains the next note, suggesting to use b43-firmware-classic for
BCM4311 and other named cards.

Package b43-firmware-classic uses  old firmware version 5.100.138.

*Note:*

 * BCM4306 rev.3, BCM4311, BCM4312 and BCM4318 rev.2 have been noticed
to experience problems with *b43-firmware*. Use b43-firmware-classic
   ^AUR for
   these cards instead.
 * BCM4331 noticed to have problems with *b43-firmware-classic*. Use
   b43-firmware ^AUR
   for this card instead.

Bug#958566: Suggested patch added

2020-04-29 Thread Gert van de Kraats
Script postinst of package firmware-b43-installer is modified to load
the classic firmware for broadcom-cards,

according to  note at
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Broadcom_wireless#b43

Logic is added to also load the correct version, in case the firmware is
unconditionally loaded.

New postinst and diff are attached, I hope.

I did not properly indent the postinst-file!

Bug#958566: Minor comment

2020-06-08 Thread Gert van de Kraats

Andreas, thanks for the bug fix. It is working.

But there still is a minor cosmetic bug, not influencing the correct
working of the package.

The display of an unknown card will never work, because it displays the
list of unsupported cards.

Besides the lspci-command also detects the wired network connection from
broadcom.

lspci -n -d 14e4: | grep -o "14e4:[1234567890abcdef]\+"
14e4:1600
14e4:4312

So if the construction worked it would incorrectly display card 1600 as
unknown.

Although I also prefer the check for an unknown card, I have the
impression this check cannot be simply made because of the weird card
naming of Broadcom.
