Severity: normal

After installing gnucash on woody, in /usr/share/doc/gnucash there's
only the mandatory Debian files and a directory with french
html-documentation. The rest of the documentation is spread throughout
the file system: The original README files are in
/usr/share/gnucash/doc, the french docs are copied in
/usr/share/gnucash/html, and other languages are in
/usr/share/gnome/help/gnucash/. Since I usually do not use gnome, I
don't know wether that's the usual gnome way - but at least there
should be links to /usr/share/doc/gnucash.

Bye, Frank

Package: mmake
Version: 2.2.1-2
Severity: normal

mmake has an unversioned dependency on the essential
findutils package.

Section 3.5. of your policy says:

<--  snip  -->

...
Packages are not required to declare any dependencies they have on
other packages which are marked `Essential' (see below), and should
not do so unless they depend on a particular version of that package.
...

<--  snip  -->

BTW: lintian gives an error message for this issue.

Bug#255955: reopen

2004-08-17 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG

reopen 255955
thanks

This bug still exists; merely creating a copyright file doesn't do
it. The package is not properly licensed under the GPL, and until we
get clarification from upstream, we can't budge on release of it; and
we must drop it from Debian if we don't hear at all.

I'm tracking this bug, and Ola Lundqvist should not have closed the
bug. Please don't close it without discussing with me.

Thomas

Bug#255955: Clarification of

2004-08-17 Thread Don Armstrong
Jan-Henrik: I'm e-mailing you to see if you would be willing to clean
up the following problem with the licensing of mmail and mmake (and
any other packages) that you've intended to license under the GPL, but
didn't make it perfectly clear. If you would be willing to okay the
second copyright statement for use in mmake and mmail, that would be
ideal. Alternatively, if you could extract the same language from the
GPL section: licensing your work under the GPL, and respond to this
bug, that would work as well.

To clarify, since Thomas's first message sounded like he was talking
about mmail only (not just mmake), the second issue is that the
copyright statement doesn't actually license the work under the GPL,
even though this is pretty clearly what the author intended.

My original bug was that debian/copyright didn't actually include the
following (I was auditing packages for something wolse when I ran
across this.)

   COPYRIGHT GNUGPL (c) 1998-2001 Jan-Henrik Haukeland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Redistribution and use with or without modification, are permitted
provided that the above copyright notice can be reproduced. Please see
the enclosed GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE file for complete details.

The above should read something like the following:

   Copyright 1998-2001 Jan-Henrik Haukeland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

This file is part of mmake, and is released under the terms of the
GPL version 2, or any later version, at your option. See the file
README and COPYING for more information.

if this is actually licensed under the GPL.

As always, if there are any questions, or anything I can do to help,
don't hesitate to ask.

Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: minor

39 packages seem to still use an old Bugs: debbugs://bugs.debian.org
when this is the default already.

Please perhaps reassign this bug to maybe each package involved?

Package: varmon
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: important

varmon doesn't work with devfs as it attempts to open a device name that
doesn't exist. Here is a munged snipped of output with strace info:

Scanning for VA safety backplane.
open("/dev/rd/c0d0", O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
Please wait a few moments...Unable to open device (No such file or directory)

Once the symlink is made, varmon is happy and works.

However, varmon should open /dev/rd/disc0/disc rather then /dev/rd/c0d0

Regards,

Pete de Zwart.

Bug#266329: asks at high priority about configuring, but follows with medium proority questions

2004-08-17 Thread Joey Hess
Package: atftpd
Version: 0.6.3
Severity: normal

The debconf config script asks at high priority whether to configure
atftpd with debconf. If you choose to do so, it asks all the config
questions at medium priority. The result is that if it's installed at
high priority, it asks if you want to configure it, and then doesn't let
you.

I think it would be better not to ask the high priority question at all,
and always configure it, if the user's debconf priority is set to allow
it. That's what debconf priority levels are for, to control what level
of configuration you want to do. There's no need for atftpd to ask about
that.

My reference comes from that GNUGPL.TXT in the source.

The LICENSE file is a bit short but the GNUGPL.TXT file covers
everything just as it should. It just has an uncommon name, that
is all.

I can not see anything wrong with this. If you read the debian
copyright file, you can see that I refer to that file instead
of the file LICENSE.

Or do you still think I did something wrong here?

Oh, and what is particularly important: the license needs to be very
clear just what files it applies to.

The normal way to do that is to put this text at the front of every
file, right next to the copyright notice. Or, if it is carried in a
different file, then that file needs to name or otherwise identify
exactly which files are covered by the license.

Bug#246486: attempts to fix

2004-08-17 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG

It turns out that fixing this bug is not trivial; it is merely one of
a whole host of problems that are caused because apparently swig has
changed its interface in a variety of ways. Adapting to the changes
seems easy on the assumption that you understand swig, but I don't.

Perhaps version 2.0.1 (see bug 173384) solves the problems. Since
version 2.1 is not free at all, perhaps the best thing to do is to
drop roleplaying from Debian entirely.

Hi,

the last upgrade of the gnus-bonus-el package failed:

Setting up gnus-bonus-el (24.5-1) ...

dpkg: error processing gnus-bonus-el (--configure):

The cause of the problem seems to be the semi package. After purging
semi, gnus-bonus-el postinst does not fail any more.

I'm closing this bug because attempts by others to reproduce it have
failed entirely, and there have been more recent releases which may
well have fixed the problem, and the submitter has not replied to a
request to verify if the bug still occurs.
