FWIW, I think the current scheme works best. I manage a bunch of packages that have python wrappers; the package then pretty much _has_ to follow the current scheme, eg. Source package: silo Bin packages: libsilo0 libsilo-dev python-silo python3-silo (coming). This is a python3 syntax change; in python3 you can pass an optional metaclass for a class, which you can't do in python2, IIRC. I'd recommend we build python3-numpy against Python 3.5 for experimental. Of my packages in the list that FTBFS, I think all of them fail on numpy (some on cython), while numpy builds fine against Python 3.5. The point was that there is a lack of a good mechanism to see which packages provide py39 support, etc. In principle my package ecflow just needs a rebuild after the boost is rebuilt, but tracking if this actually works, or add a particular dependency to enable automatic rebuild/tracking. (Contributed by Victor Stinner in bpo-44263.) and indeed, the enum types are created without a traverse function but with the HAVE_GC flag set. It doesn't at first glance look like the code for boost1.80 is different. A Python/boost expert is now needed.
