couldn't boot from cdrom
Hi, i have an ibook G4 12" (june05) with a combo-drive. everything was fine until I had hardware problems and brought it to an apple store to repair it. they changed the LogicBoard and I test my GNU/Linux system and everything was fine. I burned CDs and watch DVDs. After some weeks I want to usea CD-Rom in MacOS X, but OS X didn't recognized the medium and also not the drive. "System Profiler" just have the harddisc in the ATA-tree. I went with my iBook to the store and they tried a lot of stuff, but couldn't fix the problem and call Linux/Yaboot responsible. >From the boot menu I can't boot from cdrom. They tried to boot from OpenFirmware and tried a lot of magic key combos and also boot macosx from an external harddisc which also didn't recognize the drive. I don't care about MacOS, but I am afraid about couldn't boot from CD-ROM and have not the ability to fix my system in worst case. Has anybody ideas, why I couldn't boot from CDROM/DVD? Re: New Ibook no sound , Works only for the headphones
Hi, I also have a new ibook (since tuesday) and problems with sound. i read the archives and add 0x50 and 0x5c sound/ppc/pmac.c. headphone jack works perfect now, after diabling drc in alsamixer. but the speaker behaviour is strange: the first sound, e.g. a beep is normal, but the next more quiet. also if i start a song the beginning second is very loud and then but then the loudness goes down very fast. i can still hear something very quiet, even the mixer is on maximum. the mixer works, but the maximum loudness of speakers is very quiet (but the headphones blast away my head). by the way: thanks gmane and your postings. the archive of this mailinglist is very interesting. new ibooks (june2005) general questions
Hi, i got a new ibook and tested the last two days and a lot of stuff works fine now. But I have still some questions, which I couldnt find via Google etc. 1) what is the "name" of my ibook? how could i search without getting old ibooks included in the results? 2) do somebody knows good websites about linux on this newest ibook modell? i just found information about linux on powerbook or older ibooks (which also was very helpful for the beginning). 3) can i configure the fan manually, or does it depend on the cpu speed/temp? which tools i can use, the kernel module is loaded and seems to work. but with full speed (1.33GHz) it runs early, fast and loud. 4) does suspend on ram works? it start to (or prepare) sleep, but woke up immediately. 5) i am not interested in bluetooth. when no kernel module is loaded etc, means it, bluetooth dont need and use energy? is it like disabling bluetooth on mac os x? a) is this the correct mailinglist for this questions? I will promise to create from your answers a howto for linux on ibooks... ;-) Regards, Keywan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Hi, i played around with suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-ram. suspend-to-disk works very fine on my new ibook, but i have still problems with suspend-to-ram. i try it manually with echo "mem" > /sys/power/state and with the hibernate package. Else maybe this is a bug or missing feature, which should reported to somebody (unfortunately I am not a programmer to fix it). Problems with touchpad and sleep on an iBook G4
Hi, I did some systematic tests, why the touchpad (appletouch) didn't work sometimes after waking up from suspend-to-ram. Normally I removed and reload the module ohci_hcd and the touchpad works like an extarnal usb mouse. I tried different settings and do some statistics, because in the logs was no recognizable difference. By luck I found out that when I use the keyboard to wake up my iBook there are no problems, but when I use the touchpad button, the touchpad didnt work after wake up. Then I started my systematic tests with different cases to check my hypothesis. To make it short: this is reproducible in all cases. If you use the touchpad to wake up the computer or before the wakeup is complete, the touchpad didn't work after wake-up. I hope this could help anybody to fix the problem (hackers) or have a workaround (users). Is there any chance to fix this issue or is it part of the general usb/sleep problem?
