Is it just the security packages? Unstable doesn't use security
packages because the packages should update fast enough with the normal
methods that it's not an issue.

Yeah, I remember talk about somebody doing a simple re-write of the
memcpy routine in asm that provided speedups on G3 level machines. And
I think somebody also re-wrote the code in C and got a nice speedup,
too. Unfortunately, I don't know if that ever got put into the player
software.

I generally get about 3 hours out of each battery for my Pismo (more if
I turn off firewire, remove cd-rom, dim backlight, etc), so it's not a
Linux issue. If you haven't been keeping the battery charged for long
periods of time, that might have lowered it's energy storage
capabilities, though. Unfortunately, finding new batteries for a Pismo
is tough (Apple hasn't sold them for months).

Sleep in X on pismo

2003-02-11 Thread Brian D. Hicks
I've been meaning to ask the list this for a month or so now, but a
while ago after an apt-get dist-upgrade on my Pismo running testing, it
no longer sleeps in X. Or rather, it sleeps, but when it wakes up the
screen comes back but it won't accept any input except turning off or
rebooting.

The powerbook still sleeps in console mode, but I've noticed that now
the backlight goes off, then on, then off again before it starts to
sleep.

Any help would be appreciated.

3d support on pismo

2001-11-23 Thread Brian D . Hicks
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find it in
the mailing list archives when I searched.

How do I set up my pismo to do hardware 3d? I'm running sid, I believe
I've got all the requisite kernel modules compiled, and I've got mesa
installed. But I don't really know what to do to get it all working.

It works on mine, running 2.4.17-rc1-ben0

I don't think you can get that sort of thing without buying a full-blown
usb audio device. The first example of this which comes to my mind is
the SoundBlaster Extigy, which is probably more than you want to pay.
I'd expect that there is a cheaper option, though.

Speaking of powerbook dualhead, I don't suppose any progress has been
made on xinerama support for the Rage 128 mobility in the Pismo?
