-
To distinguish the Rev. 1 and Rev. 2 logic boards, check the number printed
on the CMD chip at location U1. On Rev. 1 boards, the number is PCI646U2.
On Rev. 2, it will read 646US-402.
---

J'ai eu le meme probleme sur un G3/266. (pas de crash, mais un message
dans dmesg avec "dma_intr ...")
Solution: placer des scsi sur le port scsi interne (ou externe)
Le 266 marche bien maintenant.

xfree86-common upgrade conflict with t1-cyrillic

2004-09-09 Thread float
Hello list,

trying to upgrade xfree86-common to 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 dpkg returns the
following error message:

---snip
Unpacking replacement xfree86-common ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/xfree86-common_4.3.0.dfsg.1-7_all.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/X11', which is also in package t1-cyrillic
System startup links for /etc/init.d/xfree86-common already exist.
Setting up X server socket directory /tmp/.X11-unix...done.
Setting up ICE socket directory /tmp/.ICE-unix...done.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/xfree86-common_4.3.0.dfsg.1-7_all.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

i don't really understand what the message tries to tell me.

any hints what to do.

removing t1-cyrillic solves the problem but is not an option for me, btw
t1-cyrillic is version: 4.5

cheers float

2004-09-09 Thread Frank Murphy

It's Debian bug #270346. The workaround is to put a "hold" on the old
version of xfree86-common until the bug in t1-cyrillic is fixed. That's
why they call it "unstable." :)

7012-G30 - linux - netboot

2004-09-09 Thread headache

I'm trying to get a Bull Escala ppc to run Linux.
It's a 4 * 601 cpu, 512mb ram.

The machine starts a bump firmware.
I set the bootlist to first boot flop, then cd, then tape, then harddisk

At the moment I've the machine trying to boot over ethernet, it's getting a
bootp answer, and it tries to tftp a bootfile.

There it goes wrong, no matter what i feed to the server, after 2 tftpblocks
is gives a 231 status (System failed to IPL from the device chosen by the
operator.)

I set the blocksize of the tftp server to various values, no luck.
I tried tp pass blocksize parameter to the bootp server, still no luck.

Any ideas somebody?

(Using dd to make a boot flop did not succeed, the server says that it's not
a firmware disk. So that's why i got trying to netboot the machine first).

Gr.

Kernel 2.6.9-rc1 and usb/scsi access

2004-09-09 Thread Jesus Climent
Hi

I guess is not a PPC related question, but since i only use 2.6.9-rc1 in my
ppc i will ask it here (also since i know Gildo is using it ;)

After upgrading to 2.6.9-rc1 usb storage devices are shown as uda devices,
which cannot be accessed thru the /dev/sd* scsi layer.

Any hints?

TIA

Why not accessing them as /dev/uba then? Udev creates the devices just
fine.

I've been reading from http://home.tiscali.be/philippe_andersson/rs6000.html

 http://home.tiscali.be/philippe_andersson/rs6000-instproc.html
but it don't work. I can't make a workable floppy disk for this
machine, it just don't boot.

I used a zImage.prep from Leigh's patch...

Anyone help me please... I'm confused !!!

Is this machine prep or chrp boot?

It could be both, but the easiest way to distinguish it would maybe be to try
netbooting both of :

http://people.debian.org/~luther/d-i/images/daily/powerpc/netboot/vmlinuz-chrp.initrd

or

http://people.debian.org/~luther/d-i/images/daily/powerpc/netboot/vmlinuz-prep.initrd

The one which works, well this one is it.

Disable the new USB storage driver under block devices. This driver is
named ub, real driver is named usb-storage, ub is loaded since it is
first in alphabetical order.

For me the ub driver didn't work at all and switching back to
usb-storage helped.

Please stop suggesting such crude workarounds. An administrator really
needs to know about these conflicts instead of packages randomly
overwriting each other's files. In the rare event of such a conflict,
one can always do

dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/...

manually if one is so inclined.

When I try booting into Linux (the ppc version), I get "Default Catch!" when

reformatting the debian partition and reinstalling? Thanks.
