If 2.6.90 was there when you looked, by the same time tomorrow you

You'll want to change ComplexProgramTarget() to
ComplexProgramTargetNoMan() in your Imakefile in order to build with
XFree86 4, as I recall. It gets a little more difficult if you're
building multiple programs, in which case you'll have to find out
exactly how #123741 was fixed.

Bug#138451: xmms-cdread: Segfaults when trying to play CD

2002-03-15 Thread Ari Pollak

I'm the maintainer of the xmms-cdread Debian package, and I just got the
following bug report. It gives me absolutely no useful information, and I
haven't the slightest idea where to even begin tracking down the bug. I
really don't think this should even be a grave bug, since the package
seems to work for the majority of people.
Any ideas? Should I even keep this bug open or just downgrade it to
normal?

If that's the case, I also have doubts whether it should be

First, downgrade the bug to normal. If it only makes the package unusable
for the submitter, and not for others, then it isn't justifiably grave.

Ask the user for more information from the user to turn the bug report into
a more useful one. strace output is sometimes helpful. Since the code in
question is in a shared object, you can sometimes get useful information
from a gdb backtrace; this will at least tell which function the crash
occurred in.

Given that the user is running a nonstandard kernel, you might ask them to
try with Debian's 2.4.18 kernel.

If none of that helps, you may want to have the user build xmms-cdread (and
possibly xmms) with debugging symbols, and run it under gdb to get a full
stack trace.

Request for a sponsor (clisp)

2002-03-15 Thread Will Newton

A program I use (GNU Common Lisp) is currently orphaned (#123279) and has a
couple of RC bugs to it's name. I would like to adopt this package and also
become a Debian developer. Obviously for this I would require a sponsor, so
is anyone interested in sponsoring me for this package?

BTW - I do realise that this package appears to be a portability PITA but I
think I can cope with that.

Thanks,

That sounds like a bad news, a potential sign of

Make sure your /etc/apt/sources.list has a line in it that
 looks like this:
deb-src http://ftp1.us.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free

And then do:
 % apt-get source psgml

And look at the directory created by apt-get.

Installing an emacs mode

2002-03-15 Thread Kristis Makris
Hello,

After going over the emacs policy documentation and experimenting with
installing in emacs a "Major mode for editing Flora programs" called
flora-mode in the xsb package I'm preparing, it's still unclear to me
how this process works. I have a few questions:

1) (from the emacs policy docs):
+

"A) Each package may place a file named the same as the package into

/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/remove/

and the package must call
/usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install foo

in the postinst and

/usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-remove foo

in the prerm."
+

What kind of file would that be? Should it be the emacsen-install file
debhelber prepares for my package? I also need to call from postinst and
prerm:

/usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-install emacs20

and

/usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-remove emacs20

respectively. Is that correct?

2)

+++
"C) Each add-on package has the right to place files into the following
directories:

/etc//site-start.d
/usr/share//site-lisp/"
+++
Is this the location the .el file that contains the implementation of an
emacs mode should go?

3) What am I missing from the emacs policy manual ?? Is this document
outdated? I noticed there's no documentation on configuring the
debian/emacsen-* files in the current Debian New Maintainer's Guide
document. Is there some other documentation on this anywhere I've not
come across yet?

Also, I was unable to find any documentation on where/how I can download
the work other package maintainers have done (.changes, .diffs) so I can
have a look at how people like to build packages, (hopefully) try to see
how other people install emacs modes, and maybe someday attempt to take
over an orphaned package. Could somebody give me a lead on this please?

Thanks,
-Kristis

You'll want to change ComplexProgramTarget() to
ComplexProgramTargetNoMan() in your Imakefile in order to build with
XFree86 4, as I recall. It gets a little more difficult if you're
building multiple programs, in which case you'll have to find out
exactly how #123741 was fixed.

That did it. Thanks!

Any ideas? Should I even keep this bug open or just downgrade it to
normal?

If that's the case, I also have doubts whether it should be
called libmowitz"0"

Are you sure of the soname version number?

Yes, and that was the problem. I have deleted that one space,
and everything works as advertised.

With Type: note, will the installation pause for user input

make it a different type and ask for user input?

It is at least the version used in the files:

$ ls -l /usr/lib/libMowitz.*
-rw-r--r--1 root root 400490 13 mar 18.42 /usr/lib/libMowitz.a
-rw-r--r--1 root root 717 13 mar 18.41 /usr/lib/libMowitz.la
lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 18 13 mar 18.44 /usr/lib/libMowitz.so

lrwxrwxrwx1 root root 18 13 mar 18.43 /usr/lib/libMowitz.so.0
-> libMowitz.so.0.2.0
-rw-r--r--1 root root 296592 13 mar 18.42
/usr/lib/libMowitz.so.0.2.0

And the version number of the package is 0.2.0 as well.

Thanks,

That doesn't tell much.
objdump -p /usr/lib/libMowitz.so | grep SONAME

That sounds like a bad news, a potential sign of
upstream changing binary interface between 0.1.0 and 0.2.0

Hi,

Perhaps you should look at a current emacs lisp package and
 see how they do it?

How would I go about looking at a current emacs lisp package? Where can
I download the "packaging work" done on packages from, so I can have a
look?

Make sure your /etc/apt/sources.list has a line in it that
 looks like this:
deb-src http://ftp1.us.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free

And then do:
 % apt-get source psgml

And look at the directory created by apt-get.
