Slow down CPU-speed

2006-02-25 Thread Wolfgang Egger
Servus,

I have a Vaio-Laptop running sarge (kernel: 2.6.15-1-686). This laptop
becomes older and meanwhile more and more thermical problems, if the CPU
is used 100% for about half an hour.
The reaction is, that the computer is going down without any warnings.
Because I don't like this behaviour, I would like to reduce
processor-speed, until the temperature is low enough, to give it full
speed again.
Has anybody some hints, how to do this?

Thanks in advance

   Wolfgang

no, I didn't. I have heard about something called ondemand governor and
I have seen that there is cpudynd and powernod, but I don't know what
are the differences, what is responsible for what and so on
ACPI seems to work on my laptop too.

Servus Hubert, Maciej and Basile,

thanks a lot for your hints! I will try your suggestions and will see,
whats the best for my system. For the first view it seems to me, that
the ondemand governor is the hottes candidate for my P4M

Sarge on Sony Vaio

2005-06-11 Thread Wolfgang Egger

Servus miteinand,

ich hab gestern, nachdem ich jahrelang mit Suse gearbeitet hatte, auf
meinem Laptop (Sony Vaio) Sarge installiert.

dann irgendein Konfigurationstool installieren musste, bloss is das
schon lang her, ich hab also die Detals vergessen.

2) Ich möchte den Powersavedeamon, bzw. ACPI konfigureren. Früher hatte
ich da ein kleines Icon in der Menüleiste, das jetzt natürlich fehlt .

Schon mal vielen Dank für alle sachdienlichen Hinweise ;-)

Sarge on Sony Vaio (now english ;-) )

2005-06-11 Thread Wolfgang Egger

Servus,

sorry, that I didn't recognize, that this is an english list.
So try again in english:

Yesterday, after years using Suse-Linuy, i have installed sarge on my
Sony Vaio Laptop. Beside some trouble with the installing procedure, I'm
pretty happy with it.

Are ther any infos about the differences between suse and sarge, mainly
about things like acpi/powersave or the synaptic touchpad etc. ?

Currently I have two problems:
1) My synaptics touchpad doesm't "klick" if I tap on it. I had the same
problem using Suse the first time some years ago, but I forgot how to
solve it.

2) I want to configure acpi respectivly the powersavedeamon. Using Suse
there was a little icon at the menu, but now there isn't any more.

Thanx in advance for any help

   Wolfgang
