toshiba 2595xDVD
Subject: toshiba 2595xDVD reference [parport] HP Printer and toshiba 2595xDVD Question: How do I eliminate "Can't locate module char-major-10-134" errors? Background: My Problem: I have a toshiba 2595xDVD laptop and a HP 712C printer. The printer doesn't print when I use debian's potato CD. My Discovery: Knoppix which is a linux variant that runs from CD is based on debian. It does print. The kernels differ by a bit: Knoppix is 2.4.19 and potato is 2.2.19-dep. My Plan: 1. make a minimal 2.4.19 kernel that supports X, extfs, VFat32 2. add in the lucent modem support 3. add in the printer 4. add in sound 5. Write up the results and post to my web site My status: Now I have a working kernel that supports X, extfs and Vfat32. I have noticed that during bootup I get these module not found messages. I don't know where they come from. I want to be rid of them before I continue. I have found the file /var/log/ksymoop/*.log where I see the modprobe command lines. = #------- # Thomas Bodine, http://www.tommythegeek.com # Computer support for small business # Skipper S/V Badger Ericson 32 __ Do you Yahoo!? Title: Toshiba 2595xDVD and HP 712C printing Tom Bodine's solution to HP712C printing with Debian Linux The story of how I discovered this is here. I have a 2.4.19 kernel running. The config file from the source directory is here. I have CUUPS to manage my printers You can get the following from linuxprinting.org I downloaded pnm2ppa to use with ghostscript to make the printer print. I found the PPD at http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=pnm2ppa I found cupsomatic at http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html which has a link buried near the top which points to the actual cupsomatic script I put cupsomatic from www.linuxprinting.org in /usr/lib/cups/filter/cupsomatic. I put the PPD in /usr/share/cups/model/HP-DeskJet_710C-pnm2ppa.ppd. I browsed to http://localhost:631 to talk to CUUPS and added my printer I found a postscript file to print and printed it. I am seeking work as a system administrator, system engineer or field engineer in southern california.
