AMD M780G with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics
Hello list, I am considering the purchase of a new netbook/laptop and I think I am quite interested in the Lenovo Thinkpad x100e: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/ catalog.workflow:item.detail? vt=5&GroupID=37&Code=X100e_INTEL_BEST&hide_menu_area=true I have read various reviews on the internet and the only thing that makes me wonder about it is the graphic chipset (AMD M780G with ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics). I checked x.org and the chipset is supported by the open source radeonhd driver (good), but apparently it does not have 3D acceleration (bad). Does anyone have this chipset? Can you comment on the quality? I am not trying to play intensive games, I just want to know if I can watch a movie on it without dropping frames like my ancient PIII system. Needless to say I'd run sid on it. Hello Matthew, thank you very much for your quick reply. This is just the info I needed. The power management in general of the x100 seems a bit worse than Atom based netbooks, but I suppose it's a real hardware issue. Santa Rosa Laptops
Hello list, I just bought a new laptop to replace my aging iBook G4. I bought it from a swiss company that ships laptops configured personally, and more importantly, the laptop comes without Windows. It will sport the new Santa Rosa chipset, with Intel graphics and Intel wifi 4965 abgn. I have been trying to gather information about linux support of the platform, and while Intel released rich information (video driver in Xorg and iwlwifi driver, albeit slightly experimental), I can't seem to find any definitive word about basic support (i.e. SATA controller). The few howtos about thinkpads seem conflicting with each other, so I'd like to know if someone has a success story to share. Additionally: is there a d-i that ships with a kernel > 2.6.18? Lenny's installers look a bit confusing, as they ship 2.6.21 modules with a 2.6.18 kernel... I'll go for pure AMD64, in case it matters. On my Asus Z37E I can suspend the laptop just by closing the lid. Check that you have the "asus_laptop" kernel module loaded and remove uswsusp and the like. Those packages are installed by default in the Debian "laptop" task, but in my case they kept my laptop from sleeping properly, while an installation done by just selecting the "desktop" task worked just nice. -- Best Regards, Jack Linux User #264449 Powered by Debian GNU/Linux on AMD64 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Suspend to ram: is swap needed?
Hello list, I usually put my laptop (asus Z37E) to sleep (as in suspend to ram) by closing the lid and it works just fine. When I wake it up gnome-power-manager cares to inform me that "suspend failed", but he's just plain wrong :) Anyway, I have 2Gb of ram on my machine and 512MB of swap. Is there the risk that on a busy day the system could not go to sleep because of the size mismatch, or is the swap not part of the suspend to ram process? I wanted to add that iwlwifi is included in 2.6.23 and that the new Debian kernels will be built with that option included. I am now using an experimental kernel from the Debian kernel team, and it works a treat. The user will only have to install the microcode in /lib/firmware. If it works, add the backports.org repository and install a newer kernel than the standard 2.6.18, and put the SATA channels back to the original.
