wireless connection issues
Hi guys, I'm having some headaches with our WLAN. We're going online with 2 laptops, that means we try. We do have the following setup: The router is a Speedport W 303V and we do have the folloeing laptops: Asus M6N, Intel ipw2100 driver, Debian/sid with wicd Acer Aspire 5680, Atheros AR2413 with the ath5k driver, Ubuntu 8.10 with network manager When my wife is online with her Acer/Ubuntu system I cannot connect with my Asus/Debian machine. The wireless network is detected but I do not get an IP address. This is from the wicd.log file: No DHCPOFFERS received. No working leases in persistent database - sleeping. DHCP connection failed exiting connection thread Sending connection attempt result dhcp_failed It does work the other way round though! Any ideas on where to look? It's, not at all, an unusual scenario :( I can access the router and it only says: sending OFFER to 192... wicd is _the_ better choice, IMNSHO. wicd should be available on ubuntu. If it's not available on 8.10, you may consider upgrading your wife's box to a more recent ubuntu vesion. OK I was thinking to update to 10.4 anyway. I can configure the router to use b+g+n, b+g or g+n. Somy guess is that when my wife goes online first the router sets up a 802.11g WLAN and therefore my wireles card is not able to communicate with the router properly. The other way round since a 802.11b WLAN is initiated. I'll have to look for a wa to tell my wifes machine to use only 802.11b. I've the following lines in my /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/auto-hibernate.conf HIBERNATE_COMMAND=/usr/sbin/hibernate AUTO_HIBERNATION_BATTERY_CHARGE_PERCENT=4 AUTO_HIBERNATION_ON_CRITICAL_BATTERY_LEVEL=1 With this my PC is hibernating randomly which is very annoying. I haven't detected a system in when its hibernating but definitely the battery level is not critical when it does so. Any hints?
