First I've compiled a new kernel (I used the linux-source-2.6.24 package from the sid repository) without the deprecated asus_acpi module. Second I've installed the asus_acpid which comes with acpi4asus: http://acpi4asus.sourceforge.net/ I adjusted the scripts to meet my needs and added some more for the buttons on the side of the laptop and it works fine. I will try the generic sid kernel without the asus_acpi module in my /etc/modules some other day, maybe this will do as well.
