Afer upgrade (Debian Etch)
I upgraded my debian etch several days ago, it seems that i got problems starting these programs: gaim, amule, bluefish etc. it shows the error : $ amule & Cheching if there is an instance already running... *** glibc detected *** malloc(): memory corruption (fast): 0x0888ac38 *** & bluefish & *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x08369080 *** and the gaim could be started, but after a wile it will quit automatically, the terminal shows the same as the bluefish : *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x083b6290 *** Could anyone tell me what's the reason pls? Same here; I am rarely able to get the X configuration tools in a default Debian install to work satisfactorily. I have 1400x1050 working on my C600 with Sarge netinstall. I first had Ubuntu (5.04?) on it and the X configuration went well. Not so with the straight Debian (on second thought, it may be testing rather than Sarge; doesn't Sarge use Xfree and Etch Xorg?). But I copied the Ubuntu xorg.conf over from a nfs mounted backup and X now works well. I wonder how one might get the Knoppix/Ubuntu/etc X configuration tools installed in straight Debian? -- Willie, ONWARD! This was my first real attempt at getting Debian to work on a laptop. I've been running only Debian on my boxes since march this year and so far I am a happy, satisfied "customer". Maybe I am just trying to get the wrong resolution and 1400x1050 would be the right one. The video card is a M3. > the straight Debian (on second thought, it may be testing rather than > Sarge; doesn't Sarge use Xfree and Etch Xorg?). Yes, Sarge has Xfree and Etch Xorg. Also, I've been using testing straight since before Sarge was released, and have no complains(sp?) so far, besides some gnomepanel glitches... -- Paulo Marcondes PU2PIX/PU1 Debian GNU/Linux = http://rj.debianbrasil.org
Which network auto-detect do you use?
Hey, I wish to to know which network auto-detect utility do you use or recommend, if any? For the moment, I am just using the laptop at home, and I have a dhcp server running, but I may improve the network here and wanted to have a more flexible environment at the notebook. -- Paulo Marcondes PU2PIX/PU1 Debian GNU/Linux = http://rj.debianbrasil.org

I was under the assumtpion of having read 96x96 dpi, however, it was 92x92 dpi. this issue was solver by adding a line: DisplaySize 282 211 to the Monitor Section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf The display looks much better now. -- Paulo Marcondes PU2PIX/PU1 Debian GNU/Linux = http://rj.debianbrasil.org
