So your card is a non PCI, which means in this case it is an ISA card. So you have to try.. in the dir /lib/modules//kernel/sound/isa/ should be some modules.. you can load them using modprobe, and with dmesg you can control if it was successfully. > --> and > --> lsmod > > Module Size Used byNot tainted > apm 8428 1 (autoclean) > 3c574_cs7796 1 > ds 5844 2 [3c574_cs] > af_packet 11048 1 (autoclean) > mousedev3604 1 > hid19076 0 (unused) > input 3040 0 [mousedev hid] > usb-ohci 16488 0 (unused) > usbcore52268 1 [hid usb-ohci] > ide-scsi8272 0 > scsi_mod 86052 1 [ide-scsi] > yenta_socket8804 2 > pcmcia_core38020 0 [3c574_cs ds yenta_socket] > ide-cd 27072 0 > cdrom 26212 0 [ide-cd] > rtc 5768 0 (autoclean) > ext3 65388 1 (autoclean) > jbd34628 1 (autoclean) [ext3] > ide-detect 288 0 (autoclean) (unused) > opti621 2060 1 (autoclean) > ide-disk 12448 2 (autoclean) > ide-core 91832 2 (autoclean) [ide-scsi ide-cd ide-detect > opti621 ide-disk] > unix 12752 23 (autoclean) > > --> and > --> cat /proc/asound/devices > I don't have a /proc/asound directory... so no ALSA is loaded. Re: Compaq Presario 1255 sound and touchpad under Debian?
Hello, high_desert wrote: Can anybody help me get sound and the touchpad work under Debian on a Compaq Presario 1255? Maybe I can. I have the same laptop computer and everything works fine with Debian. But I have installed it more than one year ago, when I was a newbie with Debian, so my installation is not perfect. Firefox seems to handle flash better than Modzilla does - can I apt-get remove "Modzilla Web Browser" and "Modzilla Composer" now? Yes. I installed all the alsa stuff I could find to no avail. Part of the problem is I am not sure what the sound hardware is. The Compaq site, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?dlc=en&lc=en&product=95000&lang= en&cc=us&docname=c00255595, lists "JBL Pro Audio System" and "Aureal A3D Interactive 360 degree Positional Sound." Windows said it was an "ESS Audiodrive 1869". I saved all the system informations given by Windows in a postscript file before deleting Windows and installing Linux. Unfortunately I'm looking for this file and I don't find it anymore. It works with my 2.4.27 kernel with the "sb" module : modprobe sb irq=5 For the touchpad, I just said to Xfree that it was a PS/2 mouse and it works well. If it can be useful for you, here is my /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 : http://yokaunix.free.fr/info/X11/XF86Config-4-CP1255 I hope this helps. -- Adrien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Out of curiosity, does your father's machine have only a wireless connection, or does it have both a wired and wireless connection? If it has both, check to see that bridging is not enabled. (If it is enabled, that could easily be causing your problems.) -Ian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I don't know why. I'll check tomorow. Thank you for your answers. pgpKulULvQC18.pgp Description: PGP signature
