Thanks Michael,

after you told me you've got exactly the same dmesg, I fiddled a
little around and...IT WORKS!

But don't ask me why: The volume was set to zero (but I had already
tried that in the past). KDE wouldn't open /dev/dsp.

Now, I logged in as root, on the console, played an mp3, loaded
aumix, and bam! it was working. Everywhere, X, KDE.
The graphical equalizer in xmms also works!
KDE would not complain any more...

This is something weired...
Anyway, thanks again.
alberto.

It works! thanks, you were right. I should have done the final 'make install' in
top-level of the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2 directory. So far (system has
only been up only for 4 hours) it seems to be running very smoothly hope it
stays like this.

Thanks once again

I have one on the motherboard of an old Pentium II (desktop) machine.

You might see if compiling ISAPNP into the kernel solves it.

The old kernel (2.4.21-xfs) from Morphix had that enabled. Didn't do
any good. I also tried to run pnpdump from the isapnptools.deb. When
it ran, it would skip the ranges set for the sound in the BIOS. So
really it's not PnP. In the BIOS you set the parameters. What I
really need is the correct way to state the parameters. Like io=0x220
irq=9 mpu_io=0x330 dma=0 dma1=1, etc.   There are a couple of other
parameters like wssio (or is it mssio or is it mss_io) and do I need to
pass the io for the opl3 chip? I would like to find a clear, concise,

Re: Debian/GNU Linux on the Toshiba Tecra S1

2003-12-07 Thread Vance Lankhaar
Hey Michael!

Thanks for your wonderful document on installing Debian on a Tecra S1.
I'm doing the exact same thing right now with a friend.

We've however come across a weird issue: after installing it for the
first time, the mouse and keyboard worked beautifully. After about an
hour, my friend told me that something strange had happened (no
explanation) and that X had died, with the console filling up with
messages like:

Dec 8 00:25:14 debian kernel: keyboard: Timeout - AT keyboard not
present?(ed)
Dec 8 00:25:16 debian kernel: keyboard: Timeout - AT keyboard not
present?(ed)

Dec 8 00:25:16 debian last message repeated 3 times
Dec 8 00:25:16 debian kernel: keyboard: unknown e1 escape sequence
Dec 8 00:25:16 debian kernel: keyboard: unrecognized scancode (75) -

whenever the touchpad was touched (or the touch point thingy). Is this
the same issue you had? (you didn't describe your issues, only your
fixes)

Also, I'm interested in the keyboard mappings that you did. Would you be
able to provide a little more information about what you did?

Thanks,
Vance Lankhaar
