Re: Plasma 5.23 25th Annivery Release coming to unstable
Hi all, please do not upgrade Plasma to 5.23 for the time being. Unfortunately, the upload is not complete and upgrading only half of the packages can leave Plasma in an unusable state. If you already have upgraded some packages, please downgrade them to the version in testing (5.21.5) or whatever version you were using before. We are sorry for this. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz
Plasma 5.23 upload to unstable is complete
Hi all, the upload of Plasma 5.23 to unstable is complete and it should be safe to upgrade. Just a couple of notes: * When you upgrade, make sure to upgrade all packages to 5.23. * ksysguard has been removed and when upgrading, make sure that the packages get removed e.g. by using "dist-upgrade". * A minor hiccup seems to be that the keybinding for KRunner (Alt+F2/ Alt+Space) seems to have been lost as the option appears twice in systemsettings. But you can easily restore the default setting for the keybinding in the settings. Have fun. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz
Plasma 5.23 is finally complete in testing
Hi all, it took a bit longer than planned, but all Plasma 5.23 packages have finally migrated to testing. All Plasma packages in testing can now be upgraded safely to 5.23.0. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz

Definitely not a major issue for me but still a nuisance. We would need a targeted fix, e.g. a 5-line patch or so, to be able to fix it in stable. Unfortunately, we cannot just update the entire KDE stack to a later version. If such a patch can be found, we could possibly fix the issue. Plasma 5.24 coming to unstable
Hi all, we've just uploaded Plasma 5.24.2 to unstable. The first packages should be arriving in a couple of hours. As always, be careful when you upgrade and make sure that you upgrade the entire Plasma stack at once to avoid mixing 5.23 and 5.24. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz
Re: Plasma 5.24 coming to unstable
Hi, > Thanks for the advice, but too late for me: my KDE is broken now. > You should ideally warn one or two days before packages are uploaded. I'm sorry about the mistake I made in plasma-workspace, but it's fixed and Plasma 5.24 installs cleanly now. As for the advice, we've stated this multiple times to not mix versions. Plasma is quite the dependency hell and it's incredibly difficult to both get it right and prevent unintended consequences at the same time. I disagree with having to give a warning 2 days in advance. If you run unstable, you should read mailing-lists, hang around in IRC and/or install apt-listbugs. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz

Thanks Likely not I'm afraid. First, this is not really a bug, but more of a feature. And I'd like to avoid having to backport all sorts of feature requests from future Plasma-releases. Second, it hasn't been backported to the 5.27 branch as the plasma- desktop code has been rewritten and simply applying the patch doesn't work. Unless the patch ends up in 5.27, the odds of this ending up in bookworm are close to 0. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz

Hej, Am Montag, 30. Dezember 2024, 12:24:32 MEZ schrieb Sedat Dilek: [...] > > Some weeks someone removed my hints to quassel IRC client and thus > made me unmotivated to contribute further. For the record, that was me. I removed it because it was simply out of scope for that page. The purpose of that wiki page is to list the quirks that users might encounter when upgrading from Plasma 5 to Plasma 6 and not to list the status of the Qt 6 port of every 3rd-party application. If we do that, we get a pretty long list of apps that does more harm than good. And quite honestly, it's only important if the app doesn't work any more under Plasma 6 (e.g. latte-dock). Most Qt 5 applications work perfectly fine under Plasma 6. I bet most users cannot tell the difference what is used under the hood. Finally, the problem at hand had nothing to do with Quassel and a lack of a Qt 6 port, but rather with the lack of support for Plasma 6 in xdg-utils. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz
KDE PIM 24.12 coming to unstable
Hi all, it took quite some time, but I will upload KDE PIM 24.12 to unstable later tonight. It is going to take a while until everything is built and available on all mirrors. I don't expect major disruptions to your PIM settings, e.g. your kmail account settings or akregator feeds should work just as before. We still have a couple of changes: * kalendar has been renamed to "Merkuro" and now consist of 3 apps: A calendar, an addressbook and an email-client. * knotes and kjots are officially dead and will be removed as part of the upgrade. The more-or-less official replacement is "marknote" which can even import your old notes from knotes. Another alternative is "klevernotes". * Finally, Google contacts can be synchronised and used again from KDE PIM. It's possible that some few applications will have to be removed temporarily as part of the upgrade until they have been ported/adjusted. -- Med vänliga hälsningar Patrick Franz
