Re: proposal for the KDE 3.3 transition
Steve, I have just seen your post Re: proposal for the KDE 3.3 transition http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2004/12/msg00079.html What is your best guess, when the transition will happen? I will upgrade a few systems from woody -> sarge over X-mas and testing KDE 3.3.1 would be welcome. I do jigo DVD images for that process. Thanks, Rainer

KMail: Deleting freezes the system
When deleting postings in KMail the system freezes from time to time: I can move the mouse, but no keyboard input is accepted any more. I have to reboot. System: Testing KMail 1.7 KDE 3.3.1 XFree 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 Any hints? -- Lutz

Konqueror doesn't save file associations
I have a problem with konqueror from kde 3.3.1 in sid. When I select a file, like a html file in konqueror and right click, and select open with.. Then select kate from the tree dialog and click remember association. Everything seems to work fine. Kate opens the html file in the editor. However the association is not saved. When I try the exact same thing again, konqueror has forgotten the association. Looking through the ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/text/ a file is created called html.desktop, which contains: [Desktop Entry] X-KDE-AutoEmbed=false What's going on? Anders

Really strange I'd like you do the following: -Boot without X, this is deleting /etc/rc3.d/*kdm (or the login manager you use), and passing the arg '3' to grub/lilo prompt. And as root: # echo > /var/log/kdm.log' # echo > /var/log/messages # echo > /var/log/dmesg # echo > /var/log/kern.log Reboot and make the system crash. Then -Boot again without X and save ~/.xession-errors, /var/log/XFree86.0.log and all the other files to a safe place. -Tar.gz them and send it to me, it's not worth to flood the list. I will try to see if there is something unusual to get a clue.
java security problems in Konqueror
Hi, like described in http://www.kde.org/info/security/advisory-20041220-1.txt I wonder, if the necessary patches get either backported to Sarge or if KDE-3.3.2 does make it to Sarge? HS

Are you using an ATI graphics card?
Control-B in Konsole
I recently upgraded from KDE 3.2 to KDE 3.3.1. I run mutt and trn in konsole sessions. Mutt, by default, uses control-B to browse URLs out of emails - a very useful feature. However, since the upgrade, Control-B seems to be bound to a single-column bookmark editor of some sort. It comes up empty, so it is not the standard konsole bookmarks that you access from the application menu, because I have a lot of entries there. So, stright after boot, I try to browse the URLs in an email with control-B, and instead a KDE bookmark dialogue pops up. However, if I press control-V, it disables this feature and my control-B is no longer captured by konsole. I haven't tried yet if any other key will also let control-B pass through or if any other keys are affected. I can't find control-B in the konsole shortcuts to disable the initial behaviour. I can't find control-V either to see what option that is changing. I do have a workaround but I am very curious to know what is going on ! :-) Nick

Unless control-V puts konsole into a permanent escape state. But I've just tried it by logging in newly on vt8, and it doesn't happen. So it may be something to do with control keys on first starting X, as it does only happen first time in. Still seems odd though. I'll experiment more next time I can spare restarting my main session :-) Nick
Bogofilter no longer works in KMail
I have KMail set up to use Bogofilter to preprocess messages but it doesn't seem to do anything any more. Spamassasin works but is terribly slow. Annoyance Filter refuses to be detected in the anti-spam wizard, even if it is installed via apt-get I tried deleting the bogofilter settings and the KMail filters for it but it seems to have no effect.

Did you recently upgrade Bogofilter (in Sid)? Because if so then you'll have to change the filter in KMail. Instead of filtering on the X-Bogosity header containing 'Yes' you now have to have it filter on matching the regexp 'spam\b' (if you just change 'yes' to 'spam' you'll send everything to the spam bin since the word "spamicity" which is always in the X-Bogosity header contains the string "spam", which is why 'contains' has to be changed to 'matches regexp').
