Do we all have to have the same version? Having a different version would be easier to "debug" :) In Debian (and most OS AFAIK) you normally dont report bugs against the DVD/CD as a whole "thing", but against the package it contains which you found to be problematic. I have been expecting the bug reporting process to be the same for the Hurd images. Just that the packages in the Hurd ISO may be a different sub-set of Debian from Linux or k'BSD etc. and maybe with different individual version numbers at times. Samuel; am I correct in assuming that the Hurd installer is just an arch' specific build of the normal Debian installer? HTH Amos

So there is really nothing specific here, it's just the normal Debian way which should be used. The report should just make it clear that it's the Hurd version, which can give a hint why it doesn't work. > In Debian (and most OS AFAIK) you normally dont report bugs against the > DVD/CD as a whole "thing", but against the package it contains which you > found to be problematic. Yes, but here it's "the installer", and no really information about which package is guilty for the issue (here it was far from obvious, even for me :) ) > I have been expecting the bug reporting process to be the same for the Hurd > images. For some packages it could happen but that's normally not happening. Samuel

debian hurd installer packages
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I tried both the DVD installer iso and the net install ISO CD on real hardware (old ACER X1930 boxes with 2Gb RAM, 500Gb HDD). Both installers fail as unable to create /run/screen Its probably an initrd issue - the graphical installer just hangs on the language screen, text gives the error message. At this stage its a bit of a long way round for me to go to download a vanilla debian, and then all the extras to do a build from scratch. Please let me know when there is a working installer. I had a mind to try to port Xtreemfs to hurd for testing and research for my own use, though mostly I have AMD x64 boxes, I have 4 of these Acer X1930s and wanted to build a cluster ( 4x G460 machines). I used to play with openmosix, and just wanted something working to play with. I found that the pseudo-graphical installer in the net install CD worked, though I only tried with kvm, not real hardware. Hope this helps. David
