Having debug symbols not matching the runtime would cause a great deal of
trouble. If you're expecting a lot of
debugging, try the new -Og switch.

One build pass and let dh_strip create the debug symbols package for you.
Unless you're not using dh, in which case
your build system is probably already broken and needs to get fixed first.

Perhaps what is not clear is that there is no old version. The SDL2 family of
libraries is not a new version of the SDL
family of libraries so much as a new set of incompatible libraries serving the
same purpose, from the same people.
There is no common code base and the libraries are one hundred percent
parallel-installable. You can't use the old
changelog, there isn't one.

I for one appreciate seeing an ITP for the long-anticipated libsdl2 packages,
so at least I know someone is intending to
package them. It may not be Policy to require closing a bug when putting a
package on the NEW queue, but it's
established documented practice. After all, isn't that one of the purposes of
filing a bug against WNPP?

I can't say with absolute certainty because of the myriad patches and versions
floating around, but squeeze *should*
support the required multi-touch driver in-kernel and definitely has the XI2.2
protocol in the x.org server. It should
just work.

There are organization who will allow v2 but not v3 because of the tivoizaton
and patent clauses. A developer may want
his work to be used by such organizations as well as by Debian.

Nope. An organization that will not accept the GPLv3 because of the
tivoization and patent clauses will not accept
GPLv2 or later. The "or later" clause means a downstream can invoke their
rights under the GPLv3 to demand secret
encryption keys or upstream can revoke the license for patent action. These
organizations do not accept GPLv2+ because
it's effectively GPLv3.

The "or later" means my clients' lawyers state unequivocally that they will not
accept GPLv2+ software, but GPLv2-only
is completely acceptable. This is not an isolated incident.

As a corollary, that may also be why the company that employs me insists on
GPLv3-only licensing by default.
