Hi,

debian-cd does embededd a copy of the syslinux binary (see #497270).

because the embedded copy wasn't synced with the archive at the time
when sarge was released, sarge images are shipping a binary without
having a source (in the dedicated source images).

sarge is using syslinux 2.04, a version which is not even available
anymore on ftp.debian.org.

syslinux is licensed under GPL-2+, which means you either need to ship
both binaries and sources at the same time, or with the note on how to
get the source etc. pp.

please uploade the debian sources of syslinux 2.04-1 (e.g. from morgue
on merkel).

Regards,
Daniel

Hi,

unfortunately, a similar issue as with #497471 arised.

for 4.0r4, the debian-installer was built with the same etch-n-half
kernel images that are available in the archive and thus also in the
source images.

for 4.0r5 this changed - it is now using a kernel (lenny 2.6.26) that is
*not* in the archive of etch and thus did not make it automatically in
the source images.

it could be argued about if source-distribution for the etch-n-half d-i
kernel is considered fulfiled by the fact that *for that very moment*
the sources for that kernel are present in the lenny archive (i think
it's not arguable, but IANAL).

in the case it will be considered as source distribution, the
etch-n-half images do lack a written offer attached where that
particular missing pieces compared to the source images of 4.0r5 can be
optained from, and is therefore a GPL violation.

in the case it will not be considered as source distribution (which is
my point of view on that matter), it's GPL violation anyway.

unrelated to which case will be considered, it's also a debian policy
violation since debian wants to only distribute self-contained
distributions, means binaries and sources together in order to also
remove them at the same time, and not having to keep sources arround.

apart from the missing kernel sources, i *think* also the sources for
the lenny d-i components (which is what is beeing used in the
etch-n-half d-i initrd) itself are missing, but havent checked that yet.

Regards,
Daniel

cdimage.d.o mirrors live images from live.d.n. however, for the 5.0.7
release, all *.img files mirrored on cdimage.d.o are broken (size 20
instead of several hundreds of megabytes), apparently the mirroring
process was corrupted somehow.

Per instructions in pseudo-image-kit-2.0.zip > README.txt, I copied the
latest /2.2_rev4/i386/binary-i386-1.list (6 Nov 01).

In a DOS window, I ran: make-pseudo-image binary-i386-1.list
ftp://ftp.us.debian.org/debian

and got warnings:

  WARNING: Error while getting /doc/FAQ/html/ch-basic_defs.html
  WARNING: Error while getting /doc/FAQ/html/ch-compat.html
  WARNING: Error while getting /doc/FAQ/html/ch-contributing.html

and read in pseudo-image.log:

debian//doc/FAQ/html/ch-basic_defs.html: No such file or directory
debian//doc/FAQ/html/ch-compat.html: No such file or directory
debian//doc/FAQ/html/ch-contributing.html: No such file or directory

ANALYSIS: binary-i386-1.list and the checksum need to be updated to reflect
the archiving of the above mentioned files into
debian/doc/FAQ/debian-faq.html.tar.gz .

doesn't matter if debian supports etch or not; the images with missing

Bug#497471: sarge images have syslinux binaries without source

Looking further into this, the missing source package appears to be
syslinux 2.04-1

Unfortunately this doesn't appear in:

Daniel, do you have any ideas where else we might find the missing
source package?

Hello,

trying to burn the file debian-30r0-powerpc-binary-1_NONUS.iso
to a CD-ROM I get the error message: "Not a valid iso image"; the
same happens with debian-30r0-powerpc-binary-1.iso. Since I had no
problems at all with burning debian-30r0-powerpc-binary-2.iso I suppose
there is really something wrong with the CD image.

For downloading the .iso-files from ftp.de.debian.org
I used jigdo 0.6.8 on a Pentium 400 Computer running SuSE Linux 7.5.3.
For burning the CD-ROMs I used a shell script provided by the admin.
I do not know the details of this script but usually, it is very
reliable.

Kind regards

Dirk Kehrwald

Is it normal?

All direct links about Testing torrents from

The page http://www.debian.org/CD/torrent-cd/ has links to 'Official weekly
torrents for the "testing" distribution on CD'. For example, the link for
386 architecture points to
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/etch_di_rc2/i386/bt-cd/ This URL however
returns a 404 message as follows:

The requested URL /cdimage/etch_di_rc2/i386/bt-cd/ was not found on this
server. Apache/2.2.4 (Unix) Server at cdimage.debian.org Port 80 --

Other similar links for other architectures and DVD as well as CD also seem
to be broken. However the torrents for the stable release above are
working.

Package: debian-installer

Test-installation with image: wheezy alpha1 xfce-lxde Binary-1 CD
on a virtualbox 3.2.10 i386 machine

When installing from the xfce-lxde-cd #1, and without network
access, no X is installed.
Whether I select an xfce or an lxde option at the boot menu,
in both cases I'm only shown the "standard system tools" task for
selection within the tasksel installer-step, no desktop task
is provided to be chosen.
And when rebooting the installed system (the rest of the
installation works fine!), I'm only provided the text login.

This way, the xfce-lxde-cd #1 is not much more than a netinst cd...

So long

Dear Maintainer,
Going to http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/jigdo-dvd/
we do not get any idea something is wrong apart from the date. Going
up/back to the parent directory you get the following page
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/amd64/ which gives the
following info./reason of the issue.

This build finished at Mon Feb 20 06:24:18 UTC 2012.

WARNING: This build is not up to date; it is the most recent successful build.

Later weekly builds failed with errors:

KDE CD build failed with error 1 at 2012-02-27:04:29:33
XFCE/lxde CD build failed with error 1 at 2012-02-27:04:29:33

XFCE/lxde CD build failed with error 1 at 2012-03-12:04:55:38
DVD build failed with error 1 at 2012-03-12:04:55:38
KDE CD build failed with error 1 at 2012-03-12:04:55:38

Now the only thing we know is that three builds failed to build. But
as a user I have no idea whether these three builds failed on some
$specific package or each time the error was different. Neither is
there a way to follow it or/and know if any attempts are being made to
restore the situation. As a result the user is completely out of the
loop.

   Hi!

The documentation of the kfreebsd image speaks of that it being a "one
disc in a set containing the Debian GNU/Linux distribution", which I
higly doubt for the kfreebsd image. ;)

Found it in README.html, but I guess the rest of the documentation
could also live with a recursive grep -i linux for a quick check. :)

 Enjoy!

So long
Holger

Hello,

Currently espeakup is not asserted to be on cd1. If speakup is not on
cd1, blind users (with no braille device) which use only cd1 to install
Debian, end up with an unusable system, because lacking espeakup to talk
to them. To avoid this situation, espeakup should really be on cd1,
just like brltty is. alsa-utils is also needed, but I see it's already
on the list.

Samuel

Choosing 'expert' option does not set the installer priority on Pegasos.
The attached patch also adds 'auto' option.
