Bug#460170: xsensors: Error opening config file: /etc/sensors.conf

2008-02-05 Thread Patrick Schoenfeld
Severity 460170 normal

thanks

Hi Ryo,

yesterday I spent some time on this issue and also contacted Aurelien
Jarno who is the maintainer of libsensors.

Ryo Furue wrote:
> $ xsensors
> Error opening config file: /etc/sensors.conf

I could determine the following things:

1) sensors.conf and sensors3.conf are different files. sensors.conf is
the configuration file for libsensors, while sensors3.conf is for the
newer version of the same library. Thus the bug is not that xsensors
searches at the wrong place, but that it does not exist.

2) Aurelien told me that the missing configuration file was a bug in an
earlier version of libsensors, which should be solved by now. So
upgrading (if you didn't do so already) libsensors3 should solve the
problem.

3) In the long run it would probably make sense to update xsensors to
use the new library, which would avoid having two different
configuration files. But thats a different issue.

I'm tagging this bug as fixed and decrease the severity, because it is
definitive not release-critical for lenny. However: If the problem is
solved for you, this would be good, so that this issue could be closed.

Best Regards,
Patrick

IVTV is now fully integrated with the upstream kernel (ivtv.ko and
ivtvfb.ko are both present in linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64 at least) so I
don't think there is a need to provide an l-m-contrib build of it any
more, or indeed any reason to build it in general. I've reduced the
severity to reflect this.

I'll try and find a way to abort with a friendly error message for now
and ultimately will remove ivtv-source, leaving just the ivtv-utils
binary package.

Bug#464118: rm -r broken: Function not implemented

2008-02-05 Thread Marc Leeman
Package: coreutils
Version: 6.10-3
Severity: grave

I installed this package, after which my entire system started to break
due to problems caused in mkinitramfs and packages fail to install.

/var/cache/apt/archives/coreutils_6.10-3_i386.deb

After using a boot CD, chrooting and re-installing
/root/coreutils_5.97-5.3_i386.deb

rm -r was working as expected again.

Sorry, I was not aware that all pieces are mainline now and that nothing
is left. Then, just as you said, there's no need for ivtv anymore in the
conglomeration package, going to remove the meta files about it, and
imho this bug can be closed :)

Thanks, and sorry for the noise,

Hi Marc,

rm -r works fine here:

Could you point to something specific that is/was broken for you?

The output of strace rm -r ... could be useful too.

Bug#463961: Debian Bug 463961: evolution-exchange: when configuring evolution to connect to an Exchange server, the Forward button in the Evolution Setup Assistant is always greyed

2008-02-05 Thread Pierre Bauduin
> Package: evolution-exchange
> Version: 2.12.2.dfsg-1+b1
> Followup-For: Bug #463961
>
> This is the same bug as http://bugs.debian.org/366841

Hello,

Hmmm yes this bug might be a duplicate of bug number 366841.

However I looked at the solution given in bug number 366841, and I tried to
do this:

   - startup Evolution, the Evolution Setup Assistant
   - in the Identity screen, in Required Information, I type in my Full
   Name and Email Address, I click Forward
   - in the Receiving Email screen, in Server Type, instead of selecting
   Microsoft Exchange, I select None, I click Forward
   - in the Sending Email screen, I select Server Type: SMTP and in the
   Server Configuration field, I type something stupid: [EMAIL PROTECTED],
   I click Forward
   - in the Account Management screen, in Account Information, in the
   Name field, I type in my Email Address, I click Forward
   - in the Timezone screen, I select my timezone, I click Forward
   - in the Done screen, I click Apply

Now Evolution is configured (with a bogus SMTP server, but we don't care
about that).

   - I select Edit > Plugins and I check "Exchange Operations"
   - I leave Evolution (File > Quit)

I type: pkill evolution to get rid of any "leftover" processes (especially
evolution exchange connectors)

I restart Evolution and then:

   - I select Edit > Preferences
   - In Mail Accounts I can see my account
   - I click Edit
   - In the Receiving Email tab, in Server Type, I select Microsoft
   Exchange
   - ... and the only field that appears is Username !

Note: at the very moment I select Microsoft Exchange in Server Type I can
see the following output from evolution:
(evolution:18948): camel-CRITICAL **: camel_service_get_path: assertion
`service->url' failed

Cheers,

It used to be in xserver-common, which was removed and folded in
x11-common at some point between sarge and etch. It was there for the
same reason dexconf was in xserver-common, which is support for more
than one X server.

I don't see how this can be a sudo problem. Seems most likely to be user
mis-configuration of pam, but since I'm not a pam expert and removing
pam_lastlog helped, I'll reassign this to libpam-modules where hopefully
it will get the attention it deserves.

Those versions are known to break evolution. Could you upgrade to 1.12.3 (in
unstable) and report back?

On second thought, it might be the same problem as the mips build

Hi,

Your package (coriander) has been detected as depending on
gnome-libs, which as per release goal, won't be shipped in lenny.

Please make sure that your package drops its dependencies on
gnome-libs as soon as possible, or that it's ported to gnome2 one way
or the other.

This bug will be raised to RC severity as soon as gnome-libs are
removed from testing, which should happen soon, since it will make
your package uninstallable.

Cheers,

Bug#463922: iceweasel-beagle: alerts "beagle storage directory not found" at launch

2008-02-05 Thread Jose Carlos Garcia Sogo
While looking at your bug, I have found this code snippet:
checkEnv : function()
{
var storage_directory = this.pref.get("beagle.storage.directory");
if(storage_directory == "")
storage_directory = this.ENV.get("HOME") + "/.beagle";
if (!this.FILE_UTILS.exists (storage_directory)) {
alert(_("beagle_check_env_error"));
return false;

Basically it sets by default the storage directory to $HOME/.beagle, and the
checks if it exists.
Do you have that dir created? Have you run beagled before trying to use
iceweasel-beagle? Can you try if you manually create that dir (note the .
before dir name)
and then try iceweasel-beagle?

Thanks

I think that's the answer. I installed beagle and the iceweasel-beagle
packages at the same time, and it seems beagled didn't start properly. I had
to start it manually from the kerry config dialog. Perhaps it would have
started at the next login?

I need a lot more information that this; it's certainly the case that it
works fine here & on other people's systems (so can't be duplicated). Do
you have any sample output? Lucas Nussbaum asked some other questions
in another email. You can do something like
 mkdir /tmp/t

 dpkg-deb -x coreutils_6.10-3_i386.deb /tmp/t
 /tmp/t/bin/rm
to run the 6.10 binary without installing the 6.10 package.

Hm. I can't. It seems to work:

logtail -f -o # works (according man page)

.. as documented. I think last time I supposed it should work that way
too:

logtail -o # doesn't work (doesn't fit
  to manpage)

logtail# works (but doesn't fit to manpage)
# but of course, no
# alternative offset file

So there is some inconsistency between the tool and the manpage.

Since I believe the last invocation is naturally, the last but one
should work too, shouldn't it? The first invocation is the only valid
(at least according to the man page)

And according to the source following works too:

logtail

I'll attach 2 diffs, both seem(!) to work for me. But I didn't touch the
man page so far.

Bug#463961: evolution-exchange: Check http://bugs.debian.org/462950

2008-02-05 Thread Nahuel Greco
Package: evolution-exchange
Version: 2.12.2.dfsg-1+b1
Followup-For: Bug #463961

Check http://bugs.debian.org/462950 , maybe at some point "Exchange
Operations" plugin is not enabled, so the fields disappears. One bug
(#462950) makes the plugin unloadable and another bug (#366841) shows
incomplete fields when the plugin is not loaded).

A list of current common problems and possible solutions is available at
http://wiki.debian.org/qa.debian.org/FTBFS . You're welcome to contribute!

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

I can not understand what you mean: "NMU uploaded to DELAYED/3-days.".

I did understand the bug and what I have to do, but I was trying to
reach 2 DDs that were helping me to maintain this package without
success.

gnome-pilot and gnome-pilot-conduits are in Aliothg:
svn://svn.debian.org/collab-maint/ext-maint/gnome-pilot(-conduits)

Can you upload gnome-pilot-conduit with this bug fixed?
I already change what was necessary.

Felipe

2008-02-05 Thread Pierre Bauduin
I've just discovered another weird thing:
With Evolution, I can access my e-mails on the Exchange server
but I cannot access the calendar on the Exchange server.

In Edit > Plugins there is a "Exchange Operations" plugin that can be
enabled or disabled.
By default it is disabled.
If I try to enable it by checking "Enabled", an clicking "Configure", it is
enabled.
Then I quit Evolution, but when I restart Evolution, it is disabled !

  It has been NMUed in the delayed queue, DELAYED/n means that in n days
it will be automatically uploaded to unstable if you didn't uploaded a
"fixed" package before.

  I can do that as well, though I'd _really_ like if you can point me to
a .dsc ready to be dget'ed and built please, I don't have the time to
guess how to build the source package and get the orig tarballs from
this svn url. thanks.

  You can put them in the ~$your-login/public_html on alioth if you
like, that's the most convienient probably.

This is fixed now as far as I can tell. In recent uploads, the

succeeds on my machine. Hopefully the auto-builder will also succeed
now.   -Lex

Yes, I can confirm that bug too.

However fixing that would still produce this error, since I launched Iceweasel
directly after installing the extension (without loggin in to KDE again).

Well, I don't think. libtoolize comes with the package libtool itself, and I
just had installed the experimental version. Thus, libtoolize must have been
updated as well, together with libtool. Right?

Thank you,

Very likely the version is the one in debian unstable, 1:2.3.1-3. Is
this right, Christian?

Woah!

Reproduced. I just killed my whole session.

It's locale related, with OOo in English nothing happens. With the fr
translation it dies immediately. That points to my patch :(

I'll run sawfish+OOo in an Xnest and try to get a backtrace.

Honestly I have no idea how this happened (there is nothing amd64 specific in
the package as far as I know) and what to do now, any short hint / pointer?

Bug#463305: kde4: Core Apps Crash Rendering Package Unusable)

2008-02-05 Thread David Baron
Here is some more, possibly useful information:

Run from a failsafe session in an xterm, "sudo /usr/bin/startkde" will bring
up successfully a KDE4 session, no crashes, everything (currently
implemented) there!

Run without root privileges, I get all the crashes.

Apparently, run from a KDM logon, startkde is run as the user logged on, not
with root privileges.

Possibly the kde.desktop xsession can be rigged to run as root or all users
that will be running kde4 can be sudo-enabled for that command and
"sudo /usr/bin/startkde" placed there. However, this is not a pretty
workaround as is, of course, dangerous.

Running the kde4 session this way had the following side-effects:

1. The $HOME/.ICE file had its ownership and/or permissions changed. A
subsequent kde3.5 session (no root privileges) could not access it so
immediately fails. Changed them back.

2. The $HOME/.DCOP. files were not available/dcop was not running so the
session then fails. Went to a console an manually ran dcopserver. After this,
I was able to run kde3.5 normally.

Bug#311188: downgrade 311188 to important

2008-02-05 Thread Holger Levsen
severity 311188 important
thanks

Hi,

at the Debian Edu developer gathering in Narvik we once again discussed
#311188 and came to the conclusion, that we would like to downgrade it to
important, as debian-edu-config only does these changes if told so by the
admin (by running the script or using the debian-edu installation cds or
preseeding a hidden debconf question).

If debian-edu-config gets installed on a normal system, nothing (bad) happens,
'apt-get install debian-edu-config' (alone) will not mess with policy.

With a severity of important the package will into testing and allow us
easiier and better testing for lenny.

We still plan to fix this bug (and deal with all the blockers) til lenny! See
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Bug311188 for a summary of the status.

This course of action has been agreed on #debian-release too :)

regards,
Holger

Bug#464139: Fwd: [Debian Bug#464139: sawfish crash openoffice]

2008-02-05 Thread Janek Kozicki
> Christian Marillat said:

> also dead.

Hi,

What is the openoffice version? On debian etch I'm unable to reproduce this:

 File-Templates->Organize
 File-Templates->Edit
 Tools->Options

all work fine.

Did it happen also in 1.3.1 - can you check? There are only few
patches in between 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 so it should be possible to locate
the cause of a problem. You could try unapplying patches from:

  http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Accepted_for_1.3.2
  http://sawfish.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Accepted_for_1.3.1

(once the site is up, because the server is down at the moment)

However I rarely (once per three/four months) got a problem with
openoffice - it hangs when I click on "File" menu (the menu doesn't
even appear), and after that I got to kill X (remote ssh to kill
openoffice or sawfish doesn't help here - must kill X). I was
thinking that it's a bug in openoffice. And probably that's another
bug, not the one you are reporting. I use openoffice quite frequently
and it never crashed sawfish for me (be it version 1.3.0, 1.3.1 or
1.3.2).

Luis Rodrigo Gallardo Cruz said:

why 'aptitude install openoffice.org' and 'aptitude remove
openoffice.org' (after testing) wouldn't work for you? ;->

Of course this is a sawfish bug. I've downgraded to 1:1.3.1-3 and now
openoffice work fine.

Today I upgraded PostgreSQL to 8.3.
This version more strictly checks types of columns and parameters.
After this upgrade any operations in Trac that try to access Subversion

You might need to add explicit type casts.

Problem lies in table revision, column rev; this column has type text,
which conflicts with number given to query as parameter.
Changing type of this column to integer helps.
It looks like there is no other column referencing revisions.rev,
so this can be done without problem.

Following SQL commands allow for fixing exisitng Trac database;
after those, Trac works again.

alter table revision add column r integer;
update revision set r = rev::int;
alter table revision drop column rev;
alter table revision rename column r to rev;
alter table revision alter column rev set not null;
alter table revision add primary key (rev);

I set severity for serious because this error makes Trac only partially
usable, although it does not cause data loss.

Remember that there is Timo's UTF8 patch waiting in queue. Try it.

Bug#464170: wordpress: security flaw in xml-rpc implementation

2008-02-05 Thread Nico Golde
Source: wordpress
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi Kai,
A security issue in wordpress' xml-rpc implementation was
found[0]:
| WordPress 2.3.3 is an urgent security release. A flaw was
| found in our XML-RPC implementation such that a specially
| crafted request would allow any valid user to edit posts of
| any other user on that blog.

Looking at the latest changes on xml-rpc the following
changesets seem to be relevant:
http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6709
http://trac.wordpress.org/changeset/6714

Upstream ticket:
http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5313

A CVE id is currently pending for this.

For further information:
[0] http://wordpress.org/development/2008/02/wordpress-233/

Kind regards
Nico

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
   license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
   the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages".

Thanks,
Simon

Hi Kai,
A security issue in wordpress' xml-rpc implementation was

A CVE id is currently pending for this.

The config.log reported that it could not find 'cc1plus' (provided by 'g++').

Sorry for that. Only that I did revert to unstable's version and had no time to
check quickly.

I suspect something here.

$ libtool --version
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool 1.2525 2007/10/16 22:45:48) 2.1a
...
$ ./libtool --version

$

(notice the ./).

Here is the config:

./libtool --config:
libtool --config:

Erm... no. I feared to change upstream's source code, which would result in
different md5sums at the end. And yes, I know upstream shouldn't include any
generated code, but many do. :(

Kindly,

Bug#464205: libcompress-bzip2-perl: Error compressing empty files

2008-02-05 Thread Andres Mejia
Package: libcompress-bzip2-perl
Version: 2.09-1
Severity: serious

When using the Compress::Bzip2 Perl module to compress an empty file, the
resulting compressed file becomes corrupted. The bzip2 program however
compresses them just fine.

Although I know compressing an empty file won't save much space, there is a
program I'm working on called debpool which sometimes would need to compress
empty files anyway (like the Packages/Sources files for distributions that
have no packages uploaded yet).

I've attached a simple script that could be used to replicate the problem.
I've also attached a script that compresses a file into gzip format using the
Compress::Zlib module, just as a comparison, and to show it works with
Compress::Zlib.

The patch solves the crash.

But I'm completely confused. The problem here was that OOo does not
set the NET_ properties, only the WM_ ones. My patch was trying
unconditionaly to convert the strings there from the locale encoding
to UTF-8, causing the crash since they came as ISO-8859-1 but the
locales (all of them, sawfish, the nested x server and OOo) *were*
UTF-8.

Adding to my confusion, the patch solves this by passing the property
to Xutf8TextPropertyToTextList, which correctly decodes it to UTF-8,
despite its name making me think it was supposed to do the oposite or
something.

Whatever.

Given this, I say we should do a new point release with this
patch. I'll test the other patch (Titlebar updates) in a little while,
but it seems to me it should be included, too.

This is irrelevant.

This is the bug. The ltmain.sh file used came from 1.5.24 not from
2.1a.

This is from 2.1a.

Again, this is irrelevant.

The point is, whether you re-bootstrap or not, you must use matching
versions of the macro files (*.m4) and the script file (ltmain.sh).
Your breakage comes from not doing that.

I don't recall how to mark a Debian bug as invalid/fixed.

Cheers,
Ralf
