Yes this is odd. What are we supposed to do to fix it, put the libs
directly to /lib32 and /usr/lib32 instead of /emul?

Why does dpkg-shlibdeps not honour symlinks anymore in the first place?

This package was intended as a temporary solution to enable users to RUN
32bit applications (not to BUILD them), until multiarch was in place, which
is the only sane way of dealing with this issue, IMHO. But multiarch is
almost vapourvare these days...

I would apreciate any hints leading to a solution for this.

Currently, I tend to reassign this bug to debhelper, but I am not sure
this is the proper solution.

Best regards
Frederik Schüler

There's no such version of compiz in debian.
Can you send the Xorg.0.log from the crashed X server?

Can you try libsane -2 and purge libsane-extras ?

It's not, the file hasn't changed, it has only moved. However it's
possible that it uncovered a bug in libsane-extras which I haven't
uploaded yet.

Unstable already has libgoffice-0-6 in it which is needed for gnumeric
1.8.0 which is about to be released. Once it is released, this issue will be
dealt with.

Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19~cvs20071213-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

It seems that the most recent version of libsane 1.0.19~cvs20071213-2
breaks udev again (at least for me).
When I downgrade 1.0.19~cvs20071213-1 everything works ok again.
My current version of is libsane-extras 1.0.18.13 which
contains /etc/udev/libsane-extras.rules.

Using the most recent version of libsane udev creates no subdirs
below /dev/,... thus my systems doesn't find stuff like /dev/snd/* which
breaks alsa,... it doesn't find /dev/input/* which breaks X and even my
network interfaces got messed up.

I hope this is not a duplicate of #359797.

Best wishes,
Chris.

I think it's not about symlinks. From dpkg-shlibdeps:

if ($libobj->is_public_library() and not
add_shlibs_dep($soname, $pkg)) {
[abort message here]

so what we're missing is an shlibs file then?

If they are not willing to do so or cannot be contacted, please remove
the font from the binary package and the source package and depend on
another font package for generating the captcha or move the package to
non-free.

Please contact ampache upstream and ask them to use fontconfig or
similar to get fonts for use by the captcha system.

Also, perhaps ampache upstream would like to switch their captcha system
to use recaptcha.net instead.

Um, you don't seem to have removed it from the _source_ package. You'll
need to repackage 3.3.3.5-dfsg-3, remove the font and give the new
source package a 3.3.3.5-dfsg-1-1 version so that you can upload a new

Bug#456879: #456879: strace: further details of FTBFS

2007-12-28 Thread Simon McVittie
tags 456879 + patch
thanks

You are in a maze of twisty struct sigcontext (or possibly struct
sigcontext_struct), all alike...

signal.c assumes that on i386, either we HAVE_ASM_SIGCONTEXT_H, or there
is no declaration of sigcontext_struct. This is no longer the case in
current glibc:

* declares struct sigcontext and has #define sigcontext_struct
  sigcontext
* conflicts with because they both declare
sigcontext, so HAVE_ASM_SIGCONTEXT_H is not defined

So, signal.c needs to avoid declaring sigcontext_struct if we already
got a declaration from .

upstream-maybe.diff is an untested attempt at a fix suitable for upstream use,
which detects the presence of sigcontext_struct in signal.h properly.
m68k could probably benefit from a similar change, just after the last
line I altered.

debian.diff is a less clean fix (it relies on sigcontext_struct being a
#define), but it fixes the FTBFS on i386 without requiring an autoreconf,
so may be less intrusive to apply. Again, m68k could probably benefit
from a similar change, but I don't have an m68k handy to try it on.

Building Debian packages in AFS is not officially supported. If I can
manage to make it work, I'll consider it, but it's not release-critical
that it work. The Debian package tools have from time to time relied on
Unix file system semantics, and it may not always be a fixable problem.

> QUILT_PATCHES=debian/patches quilt --quiltrc /dev/null pop -a -R || test $? =
> 2

quilt pop -R uses cp -rl to create a temporary working directory, which
doesn't work in AFS. I'm not sure if moving away from using quilt.make
and instead rolling our own so that we can remove -R (and lose some safety
offered by it) is really worth it for Debian package builds in AFS.

I recommend making a practice of always copying the package onto local
disk and building it there.

Hello,

cc:ing all the people involved in this bug, so in case they can test if
the bug is a general one (i.e. not specific to xdm) and in this case
test my fix.

With the latest splashy update, xdm doesn't work any more on my sid.
ATM I don't use splashy, but since it's still installed,
/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh replaces /usr/lib/lsb-init-functions. And this
is the cause I discovered from `invoke-rc.d xdm start` after having set
the -x option for /etc/init.d/xdm gives:

I already proposed one correct solution on bug #451846 [1]: the modified
log_daemon_msg() should not execute splashy code when splashy is not
running. This is what happens in log_end_msg() and applying the patch
that I proposed on that bug solves the problem:

Bug#457416: Solved!

2007-12-28 Thread Jrgen Hgg

After tedious file removal/testing/restoring I finally got iceweasel working
again. It turns out that a Berkeley DB file somehow was corrupt:

key3.db

Everything started to work again when I removed it so the browser
could recreate it.

Strange.
Could this be some libc6 problem?

Anyway, it's working again for me so this ticket can be closed. :-)

Well, the easiest solution is to have a random name of the directory (mktemp -d
for instance can create such a directory very easily).

Cheers

Bug#458145: xscreensaver: "webcollage" installed without prompting

2007-12-28 Thread Thomas Koenig
Subject: "webcollage" installed without prompting
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.04-2
Severity: grave

Hi,

I just found that "webcollage" had been installed on my system
with the latest upgrade. Apparently, this downloads random
pictures from the Internet and displays them as screen savers.
This screen saver is usually called randomly, so these
pictures might appear at any time.

This may cause some problems on a system that's being used by a
whole family (especially if children love to play with different
screensavers). If somebody uses this screensaver at work, the
consequences could also be grave.

I did NOT install the kscreensavers-xsavers-webcollage package.

Please consider removing that screensaver as soon as possible.

Best regards
Thomas Koenig

Bug#458149: deeply disturb udev

2007-12-28 Thread Yannick Roehlly
Package: libsane
Version: 1.0.19~cvs20071213-2
Severity: critical

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hi,

I'm not sure if the severity is appropriate (maybe I'm just upset because I
spent nearly two days to identify the problem) but I think it corresponds to
the Debian definition as it seriously affect other programs (udev). If I'm
wrong, feel free to downgrade.

When I install the 1.0.19~cvs20071213-2 package, udev behave very weirdly:
- a lot of modules are not auto-loaded (nearly all)
- /dev sub-directories are not created (e.g. /dev/input) even when manualy
  loading the modules
- the modules needing firmware can't find them (e.g b43 for airport)

The strange thing is that the only udev related change between -1 and -2
package seems to be the udev rules file move from /etc/udev/
to /etc/udev/rules.d/.

When trying to identify my udev problem, I couldn't find a trace of udev in
the logs, so I can't tell you what's the problem. :,( Maybe the problem comes
from udev itself.

If I can help you (with the help of the udev people I think) don't hesitate to
ask.

Sincerely,

Yannick

Bug#458153: libcomplearn-mod-lzmax: Missing lzma dependency

2007-12-28 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: libcomplearn-mod-lzmax
Version: 1.0.6-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

This package uses the external lzma command to perform the
(de)compression operations, but the dependency is missing, thus making
the package quite useless without it.

regards,
guillem

Hi Nicholas,

gromacs-openmpi depends on lam4c2 which seems to be wrong. I think it's
related to #451991 but I'm not sure, so I file it as a seperate bug. (I'm
not sure about the severity either.)

Package: gromacs-openmpi
Version: 3.3.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi Nicholas,

we already talked about that bug. It affects the current version in unstable
on amd64 and is reprocudible in a lenny and sid chroot.

I think it's caused by LAM but I have not investigated that further. It seems
it's mixed with OpenMPI somehow. The buildlogs contain errors but the build
does not fail for some reason.

If you have any idea how to track that down, please let me know!

Best regards
Manuel

Sorry about that there was a miss communication between me and my
sponsor (more me than my sponsor). COLLEGE.ttf has been removed from
the orig.tar.gz. Ampache-3.3.3.5-dfsg1-1 has been uploaded to m.d.n.,
sponsorship will close this bug. The updated org.tar.gz can be viewed
at http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/a/ampache/
