With this patch and the previous one, I am able to compile and run pdftk
with dpkg-buildpackage.
Thanks.

Are you waiting for an upstream update to see if it is useful to commit
these two patches in the package?

One other thing to add... I went back and looked at the maildir manpage, and
I believe that the OfflineIMAP implementation, even prior to your patch, is
conformant to the spec.

Ordinarily it would seem like there is a race here, but I wonder if some of
the other rules for access make it a non-issue here. I haven't had the
chance to look at it in detail yet though.

Bug#447275: libicu36-dev: tools broken / missing dependency (on amd64)

2007-10-19 Thread Rene Engelhard

Hi,

libicu36, of course.

I just had a quick look:

Judging from
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=icu;ver=3.6-6;arch=amd64;stamp=1190059798
it seems as ICU is built *4* times instead of 2? (32/64)?

In debian/rules from nyus patch from #398778 I see the following:

install/libicu36 install/libicu36-dev::
$(MAKE) -C $(DEB_SRCDIR)-build install DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp

install/lib32icu36 install/lib32icu36-dev::
$(MAKE) -C $(DEB_SRCDIR)-build32 install DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp

install/icu-doc:: install/libicu36 install/libicu36-dev
$(MAKE) -C $(DEB_SRCDIR)-build install-doc DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tm

which obviously might work for the libs (lib vs. lib32) but of course not
for the tools because both end up in /usr/bin. Now (because otherwise it would
be OK) it looks that the 32-bit install takes place after the 64-bit one
overwriting the tools...

Rene

That said, it didn't work on my system anymore, I de- and installed the
packages and it worked again (WTF?). It also didn't work inside sbuild
somehow (at least for OOo), so this doesn't help for building packages for sid.

I guess the safest way is to ship the 64 bit biaries, which I guess was
intended and is better anyway.

Didn't think of that, good thinking.

Well, pidfiles do have a function, how else do you deal with process

patch the source? you just need to patch puppet.conf, no?

Eh.. I'm probably the only person that got through the trouble of filing
the bug...

Thanks!

Oh, I don't have any better ideas, but it doesn't stop me from despising
them.

Well, there's a bit of history there, relating to how Puppet used to
handle config files. The short version is that patching puppet.conf (while
making the initscript changes) will probably result in my wibbly bits being
strung up from tall trees. The long version is #440346.

No, there's plenty of people who take great delight reporting bugs against
Puppet. (They're legitimate bugs, to be sure, but the volume is
occasionally disconcerting)

This fix won't work, because /var/run is often a tmpfs, so /var/run/puppet
will get lunched on reboot. The fix will actually have to be in the
initscripts.

Gah, I despise PID files. And programs that assume things about their
placement and permissions.

I think I'll just go the whole hog and patch the source for that,
considering that the rundir will be hardcoded in the init script anyway.

It's strange that I made the original rundir permissions change several
weeks ago and you're the first person to hit it. Oh well. I'll whip up a
fix and get it out shortly.

Package: puppetmaster
Version: 0.23.2-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When starting puppetmasterd for the first time (after creating a proper
site.pp), I'm getting this error message:

Restarting puppet configuration management tool master
server/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/util/pidlock.rb:33:in `initialize':

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/daemon.rb:20:in `daemonize'
from /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd:292

The fix is simple, and should be part of the postinst (or simply in
debian/rules):

mkdir /var/run/puppet
chown puppet:puppet !$

puppet.conf should also point to /var/run/puppet instead of /var/run as
a rundir.

I solved it by apt-get upgrading lash-bin.

Shouldn't there be someting in the lash-bin control file that specifies that
they are tightly-coupled to a particular liblash2 version? So that if that
library gets upgraded, lash-bin will be upgraded too?

Bug#447314: puppetmaster: permission denied on /var/run

2007-10-19 Thread The Anarcat
Package: puppetmaster
Version: 0.23.2-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When starting puppetmasterd for the first time (after creating a proper
site.pp), I'm getting this error message:

Restarting puppet configuration management tool master
server/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/util/pidlock.rb:33:in `initialize':
Permission denied - /var/run/puppetmasterd.pid (Errno::EACCES)

from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/puppet/daemon.rb:20:in `daemonize'
from /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd:292

The fix is simple, and should be part of the postinst (or simply in
debian/rules):

mkdir /var/run/puppet
chown puppet:puppet !$

puppet.conf should also point to /var/run/puppet instead of /var/run as
a rundir.

Bug#447297: d-shlibs: relies on apt but doesn't depend on it

2007-10-19 Thread Julien Cristau
Package: d-shlibs
Version: 0.35
Severity: grave

Hi,

d-shlibmove and d-devlibdeps rely on apt, but d-shlibs doesn't depend on
it. I believe that this is causing the build failures of e.g.
graphviz [0] and libgtkok [1] on hppa.

Bug#447293: tools/mirror/reprepro uses providecheck, which is not available

2007-10-19 Thread David Paleino
Package: simple-cdd
Version: 0.3.5
Severity: serious

Simple-cdd, during its run, calls /usr/share/simple-cdd/tools/mirror/reprepro
to build the local mirror to make the ISO. On line 151, it reads:

provide_dependencies="$(providecheck "$provides" "$all_packages $dependencies"
| sort -u)"

and it fails with:

/usr/share/simple-cdd/tools/mirror/reprepro: line 151: providecheck: command
not found

I've looked for "providecheck" in many different pleaces:
- Google
- apt-file search providecheck
- apt-cache search providecheck
- apt-file search provide | grep check (in case it was something like
provide_check)

Thus, I can't complete the simple-cdd run, because it misses some
dependencies which should've been downloaded by the check after that line 151:

This version should not move into testing until pkinit.so moves into a
package other than libkrb53. Probably the README needs to be updated
as well.

I expect to make an upload in a week or so that moves pkinit into its
own package; once that clears new this bug goes away.

Package: gpsd
Severity: wishlist

Currently I have to install a gpsd locally to compile programs that can
contact a remote GPSd server. It would also allow linking to libgps
without depending on an installed gpsd (i.e. offer gps-functions as an
/option/ in programs).

Having libgps as separate packages would be very nice for all this. This
is also true for the python library that's included (it would also make
'apt-cache search python gps' work -- I re-did most of the work because
I thought it didn't exist yet)

   * Hijacking the package as announced on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

   * New upstream version
   * Removing Tachometer.c due to an unclear licensing, this introduces
.dfsg to the version number and results in not being able to build
 xgpsspeed.
   * Building new packages:
 - python-gps containing the python modules, this also fixes a bug
complaining about missing python-support (Closes: #413925)
 - Splitting libgps and the according devel files in separate packages
   (Closes: #295375)
   * Installing gpsd in /usr/sbin again. gpsd is a system daemon and only
 rarely used as user command.
   * Auto discovery of USB GPS devices is disables now by default, as the USB
devices use nothing but a standard usb to serial converter. This resulted
in trouble if you wanted to use a normal serial converter without attached
GPS device. A rules file is provided as example now.

very sorry, a stupid mistake on my part.

when i added providecheck to simple-cdd, i apparently forgot to actually
include it in the package.

offlineimap just spins. Enabling debug messages spews the

Looks like the race condition fix broke something. Reverting
to a self-built 5.99.2 (thank you snapshot.debian.net) fixes
the problem.

libncurses5 doesn't depend on ncurses-bin. Even if it did depend,
only the order of configuration would be determined.

Bug#447277: perl: Errno architecture does not match executable architecture

2007-10-19 Thread Brent G.
Package: perl
Version: 5.8.8-11.1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Same as my report # 443262, breaks all softawre which uses perl with same error
messages.
If I remove that module, then the related software still does not run since it
depends on that module which isn't included in
perl-modules

So every time you push out a new perl package I have to manually go out, fetch
the tarball and reinstall since even using CPAN.pm
is broken.

So again, perl (this package): makes unrelated software on the system (or the
whole system) break

Bug#447275: libicu36-dev: tools broken / missing dependency (on amd64)

2007-10-19 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: libicu36-dev
Version: 3.6-6
Severity: grave

Hi,

Someone else aready told me about this on IRC but I didn't have any idea until
I ran into it myself now; the binaries in libicu36-dev are broken or a
dependency is missing:

This system is a pure amd64 system and I tried to build amd64 pakages in
a clean chroot. That means only with libicu36-dev installed.

genbrk fails miserably.

excerpts from the build log:

checking for genbrk... /usr/bin/genbrk
checking for genccode... /usr/sbin/genccode
checking for gencmn... /usr/sbin/gencmn
checking ICU version... OK
[...]
/usr/bin/genbrk -r data/char_ta.txt -o
../../unxlngx6.pro/misc/char_ta.brk
/bin/bash: /usr/bin/genbrk: No such file or directory
dmake: Error code 127, while making
'../../unxlngx6.pro/misc/char_ta.brk'
'---* tg_merge.mk *---'

ERROR: Error 65280 occurred while making
/build/rene/openoffice.org-2.2.1/ooo-build/build/OOF680_m18/i18npool/source/breakiterator

So why is that? (The bash message is totally bogus..)

$ genbrk
genbrk: error while loading shared libraries: libicutu.so.36: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory
(same with the other tools, too)

Hmm? Shouldn't this be in libicu36-dev? Yes, it is. Hmm.
So I wondered why it wasn't found and just by chance I ran file on
genbrk:

$ file /usr/bin/genbrk
/usr/bin/genbrk: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), for
GNU/Linux 2.6.8, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

Ahaa. i386 binary.

I therefore installed lib32icu36 (which contains the 32-bit icu libs and
then it magically works).
Was that intended or is it a bug caused by the 32bit packages building?
I'd assume the second, but...

So either
 - the 32-bit binaries in the amd64 package are intended. Then you need
   to depend on lib32icu36, too
 - the 32-bit binaries in the amd64 is a mistake introduced by the 32/64
bit thing and you should ship 64-bit tools

This also explains why I never saw this on OOo 2.3.0 builds for
experimental as I was using libicu-dev (3.8) there - which doesn't have
the 32/64 bit stuff yet - and of course neither on other archs than amd64..

Regards,

Rene

Bug#447243: Bug#447242: apertium-es-gl - FTBFS: The pkg-config scriptcould not be found or is too old.

2007-10-19 Thread Francis Tyers
I'm not sure what is wrong here, the Build-Depends states:

Build-Depends: debhelper (>= 5), autotools-dev, lttoolbox (>= 3.0.0),
apertium (>= 3.0.1), libapertium3-3.0-0-dev (>= 3.0.1), libxml2-utils
(>= 2.6.26), xsltproc (>= 1.1.20-1), gawk (>= 3.1.5), pkg-config (>=
0.21-1)

But it appears that you don't have pkg-config installed. Do you actually
have pkg-config installed? If not, is it available for your platform?

Bug#447219: Corrupt stack?

2007-10-19 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
I should mention that Bug Buddy also reported

** (bug-buddy:14719): CRITICAL **: file bug-buddy.c: line 287
(on_product_toggle_clicked): assertion `druid_data.state == STATE_PRODUCT'
failed
/usr/share/bug-buddy/gdb-cmd:1: Error in sourced command file:
Previous frame identical to this frame (corrupt stack?)

This reminds me of a core dump from the same
application. gdb showed an enormous back trace for
the stack, and finally said

Cannot access memory at address 0xbfb96000

This spread sheet file makes gnumeric quite slow,
and I suspect the delay may have something to do
with a corrupt and repeating stack, but that's
just a guess.

Thanks,
Kingsley

Bug#446825: Beware when downgrading.

2007-10-19 Thread Raúl Sánchez Siles
  Hello all:

This is a warning advice. If you need a functional ghostcript, the easiest
workaround is downgrade to gs-gpl or gs-esp. These are supposed to provide
ghostscript and also the gs symbolic link.

But things are not like this, for me downgrading didn't create the gs link
and I went mad for a almost a whole day looking why any of my configured and
tested printers didn't want to print.

The exact problem is that the postinst script line:
update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/gs gs /usr/bin/gs-gpl
20 --slave /usr/share/man/man1/gs.1.gz
gs.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/gs-gpl.1.gz

does not regenerate the symbolink link due to
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=100135

The solution is recreating the link manually:
ln -s /etc/alternatives/gs /usr/bin/gs

  Regards,

Bug#433130: Diff for NMU of python-crypto

2007-10-19 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hello,

this bug report is blocking zope3 migration from testing to unstable. We
haven't received any answer or acknowledge from the maintainer since the
14th of August, so I'm uploading now a NMU.

Attached you can find the diff between the current version in unstable and
the just-uploaded NMU.

Thanks,

I love keeping my system as simple as possible.
I install packages only when I need it.

The virtualbox-ose package should depend on adduser, or it will cause
installation failure. Error messages are listed below:

Bug#447217: Workaround

2007-10-19 Thread Daniel Burrows
It looks to me like the problem is a missing "break" statement at
line 181 of offlineimap/folder/Maildir.py. In an installed offlineimap,
the file is:

/usr/share/python-support/offlineimap/offlineimap/folder/Maildir.py

  Daniel

I am not the maintainer but I did push the last upload.

I'm looking at #443262 for the first time and see that you had lots of
locally installed modules, including the one that had a problem, and you
were asked to try with the ones that Debian shipped.
You didn't answer to that though and the bug was closed.

So, again, can you check with Debian's modules and see if you can
reproduce the error?

Regards,
Faidon
