Bug#445360: rxvt reproducibly crashes with certain mutt behaviour

2007-10-05 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: rxvt
Version: 1:2.6.4-10
Severity: grave

Hi,

Certain niche actions in mutt have been reproducibly crashing my rxvt
since I've upgraded to etch.

Here's a test case:

* open rxvt
* run mutt -f rxvt-bug.mbox
* move up-arrow to get the first of the two messages
* press enter (this shows the message, and the message that PGP key sig
  can't be verified)
* press j (this would normally move you to the next message)
* rxvt dies with SIGSEGV

This has bitten me at least three times in the past few months, and I'm
really tired of the data loss... yes, perhaps a small one (mbox flags),
but still.

The same problem doesn't happen in mrxvt.

Debian-Edu: Skolelinux 3.0 Terra available for free download!

* Oslo - July 22., 2007

Skolelinux 3.0 is ready.=20
This is an community release with comprehensive support from regional
and national projects in Germany, Spain, France, Greece and Norway. The
Skolelinux project is now a part of Debian under the name Debian-Edu.
Several other projects have made additional functionality to Skolelinux
tailored for national needs. Skolelinux now supports more than 50
countries.

Whats new in Skolelinux 3.0:

 * based on Debian 4.0 "etch" and therefore compatible to LSB 3.1, using
kernel 2.6.18 and KDE 3.5.5

 * Full support for networked Thin clients, LowFat (diskless) clients,
Workstations and Laptops. With the LowFat clients users got full PC=20
functionality with extremely low maintenance cost. The use of LowFat
clients gives full support for sound, video, USB memory stick's and DVDs
without the need for a local installation.

 * Skolelinux now got more than 80 applications selected for pedagogic
uses, supporting more than 50 languages. Many new applications are
introduced in addition to popular classic as GCompris, KDE-Edu,
Iceweasel (unbranded version of Firefox) and OpenOffice.org.

 * Installation is a breeze: Both the installation and source code for
all software are now distributed on a single DVD now supporting three
different processor platforms as i386, PowerPC and AMD64. This makes it
more easy to choose hardware, and to study the recipes behind the
software. Those interested can exercise their freedom to learn,
participate and share knowledge more easily. Installation CDs are also
available, but requires a working Internet connection for installation.

Would it be an option for either of you to test upgrading to PHP5 to see
if the problem also goes away?

Bug#445370: python-gammu: No dependency on python

2007-10-05 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: python-gammu
Version: 0.22-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Python policy

This package doesn't depend on python. This is a serious problem because
python can be updated to version 2.5 without python-gammu noticing,
making it stop to work.

This is probably just a matter of adding ${python:Depends}.

Bug#445406: login to horde3 fails due to wrong cookie path

2007-10-05 Thread Tom
Package: horde3
Version: 3.1.3-4
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

After following the additional Debian-specific configuration hints,
login to horde is not possible with iceape or galeon (and possibly
other browsers).
reason:
horde configures php to use /horde as cookie path whereas the default
webroot in Debian is /horde3. This triggers bug #433458 that should
have been fixed. This bug was already present and fixd in debian
horde2 (bug #174072) and also described in

Common practice to avoid this situation is to answer in the bug log so
that everybody knows you're working on it. If not, then expect someone
to NMU if your bug is more than 10 days old.

I would not blame someone that does a NMU if that's because I was:
(1) silent on the bug log ;
(2) letting an RC (or even to some extent some important bugs) open
for a very long time on one of my packages.

It does not means you can't explain to the NMUer why he/she was wrong
so that next time he/she knows better. But a NMU is not an aggressive
act. Stop being an alpha-male please.

> Both are responsible of this glitch, it's not only my fault...

It is. 0 Day NMU policy applies for RC bugs and Release Goals bugs
after 10 days. Get used to it.

You were. Using “crap” for a patch isn't that kind. See nion's & sam's
answers.

> I just didn't understand at all why someone wanted to upload a NMU
> with a broken patch while I was aware of the issue and planned to work

Was the bug tagged “pending” or “confirmed”? It wasn't. Did it ever get
an answer from the maintainer? It didn't.

> Please look at fuse maintainers again. I'm not the maintainer.

$ apt-cache showsrc fuse | grep Uploaders
Uploaders: Adam Cécile (Le_Vert) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

You're either playing on words, or you didn't get how Debian works.

> I had to work on fuse because the package was heavily broken and lead
> me to serious issues for my ntfs-3g package.

Of course, that's others' fault every time. And even if you did an NMU
at that time, you would be considered in charge for a while. Don't look
for bad excuses.

> This bug was open ages before I start working on fuse and I'm not
> aware at all of this issue.

You don't look at the BTS when you're working on a package? Way to go…

> Could you please tell me how would you have reacted if someone wanted
> to upload a broken NMU for a package you're maintaining?

I guess something like “thanks but…” would be the way to answer. YMMV.

> I should have answered faster to this bug report,

Definitely.

> and the NMUdiff submiter's should have contacted me before wanting to
> upload a NMU.

Uploading to DELAYED/n and sending the nmudiff is technically the same
as sending the nmudiff, waiting n days and uploading. If you want to
avoid the NMU, do a MU. Or if you can't for some reasons (e.g. you're
busy fixing old bugs, oh wait, you don't look at the BTS, but well,
imagine you did), ask the NMUer to cancel the upload.

> Both are responsible of this glitch, it's not only my fault...

Sam was talking about yours. Don't reject yours on others.

Package: beagle
Version: 0.2.17-2
Severity: important

On my system, beagle crashes with a SIGABRT, some times after startup.
The crash has been happening all the time in the past few weeks (since I
upgraded to mono 12.5 I suspect).
The crash is still happening, even after cleaning up all subdirs in
~/.beagle (except config subdir).

Once again (and it'll be my last answer on this fixed bug reported), the
bug was only 7 days old, and the proposed NMU was broken.
Moreover, I'm not the fuse maintainer, if you don't like my work and
think you're better, go ahead and add yourself to fuse uploaders.

Bug#432007: version crap

2007-10-05 Thread Robin Wittler
Hi,

i think there is something wrong with your version.
Take a look at this:

# LC_ALL=C apt-get -s install ktorrent=2.0.3+dfsg1-2etch1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
  ktorrent
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Inst ktorrent [2.0.3+dfsg1-2.2] (2.0.3+dfsg1-2etch1 Debian-Security:stable)
Conf ktorrent (2.0.3+dfsg1-2etch1 Debian-Security:stable)

# LC_ALL=C apt-get -s install ktorrent=2.0.3+dfsg1-2.2
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
ktorrent is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

# LC_ALL=C apt-get -s upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

-

The ktorrent=2.0.3+dfsg1-2.2 is the actual version on this system. it
will never update this version: 2.0.3+dfsg1-2etch1

So what went wrong? *g*

Greetings,

I'm suggesting a binNMU, since a rebuild looks like sufficient to update
the dependencies (in terms of .so, not in terms of packages, although
libxcomposite1 and libxdamage1 get added), so that the program at least
starts.

You aren't calling any helper to generate the dependencies. You need to
either build-depend on python-support and call dh_pysupport, or
build-depend on python-central and call dh_pycentral.

Hi.

$ dpkg --info kaffe-pthreads_1.1.8-1_i386.deb | grep --color ecj

only highlighted libecj-java. Also, “aptitude install kaffe-pthreads”

Just another data point:

I (actually a friend of mine) was also bitten by this bug today. We
solved the problem by editing /var/cache/debconf/config.dat and adding
"Value: vserver-xorg" line after "Template: shared/default-x-server"
line (but not adding the "Flags: seen" line), then executing
"dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg".

Before doing this, we messed around a bit, looking at the command line
history, I believe before changing the debconf database, we did the
following:

1. Copy an old xorg.conf into /etc/X11/.
2. Remove /etc/X11/X symlink.
3. Run "dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg"

Then we changed /var/cache/debconf/config.dat and re-ran
dpkg-reconfigure, and it worked.

sparc porter love is needed. as gcc-4.2 seems to have busted _clzdi2
and _clz, on my todo list, but not tooo high if not a sparc porter
appears magicaly ;)

As far as I know, it is 0-day NMU policy for bugs older than one week. I
sponsored it to the DELAYED queue. I know the rules. I applied them. It
seems you don't know all of them.

If the patch was broken, I am sorry for that: I am the one responsible.
But I also let you ( == Bartosz *and* you) some time to "wake up" and
take action.

Would it kill you either to say "sorry for being aggressive and thank
you for taking care of the package"?

OK, you're not the official maintainer. But why are you a comaintainer
if you don't want to maintain the package? Wouldn't it be better to have
it orphaned if the "real" maintainer is not active and to seek someone
interested in the package? I am sure there are people who feel concerned
with fuse.

Anyway, thanks for trying to maintain the package the best you can and
please also try not to take NMUs personnally.

Bug#445020: edict & kanjidic: License discrepancy between the Debian package and upstream, upstream's license being non-free

I think this bug violates Policy 12.5, not 2.2.1 if CC by-sa 2.5
can be upgraded to CC by-sa 3.0 and then meets DFSG.

The point is the incorrect information in debian/copyright. For
now, please update debian/copyright as follows:

- include the upstream statement quoting from
  http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/edrdg/licence.html
- mention that the Debian package is distributed under CC by-sa 3.0
according to section 4.b of CC by-sa 2.5
- include a verbatim copy of CC by-sa 3.0 quoting from
  http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/legalcode

For the records, the error is:
| Could not load plugin file: File
| "debian/gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstgnomevfs.so"
| appears to be a GStreamer plugin, but it failed to initialize

I'm tempted to open a bugreport asking for that kind of info to be
available more easily, but I guess asking you here might be sufficient,
right? ;-)

To reproduce it easily:
| fakeroot gst-inspect-0.10 --print-plugin-auto-install-info
debian/gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstgnomevfs.so

It looks like libgnomevfs2 dropped (apparently silently, maybe not on
purpose?) the patch added in 1:2.18.1-4: 24_gnome_vfs_home_dir is no
longer in the series file.

That would explain why stracing the fakeroot call with an appropriate
GNOME_VFS_HOME variable set leads to an invariable /root/.gnome2 access
attempt, and would explain the initialization problem, due to
gnome_vfs_init() failing.

I'm currently building a new package with the patch added back in, to
see whether that indeed fixes the problem. I'll be cloning, reassigning
et al. if that works.

Cheers,

Bug#445090: 445090: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 255

2007-10-05 Thread Zygo Blaxell
I've just seen similar symptoms to this bug on an upgrade of libssl0.9.8.
One difference is that I see 'exit status 128' instead of 255, but like
this bug there is no indication in the output as to cause, and the upgrade
would not complete despite restarting it several times from aptitude.

I've seen this problem only once despite performing the same upgrade on
10 similarly configured machines.

I then tried tracing the postinst script manually, but when I did so
the problem did not occur and I wasn't able to reproduce it afterwards.

My guess is that something is behaving differently depending on whether
it is run from /usr/share/debconf/frontend or not. I've had a number of
problems with some packages in the past that set up environment variables
that cause Perl to crash or cause dpkg utilities to change their behavior.
dpkg-cross was the culprit in the most recent case, but dpkg-cross has
been purged from my system for some time now.

This is the (successful) output:

satsuki:~# bash -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/libssl0.9.8.postinst configure 0.9.8e-6
+ . /usr/share/debconf/confmodule
++ '[' '!' '' ']'
++ PERL_DL_NONLAZY=1
++ export PERL_DL_NONLAZY
++ '[' '' ']'
++ exec /usr/share/debconf/frontend /var/lib/dpkg/info/libssl0.9.8.postinst
configure 0.9.8e-6
Checking for services that may need to be restarted...done.
Checking init scripts...
Configuring libssl0.9.8
---

This release of OpenSSL fixes some security issues. Services will not use these
fixes until they are restarted.
Please note that restarting the SSH server (sshd) should not affect any
existing connections.

Please check the list of detected services that need to be restarted and
correct it, if needed. The services
names must be identical to the initialization script names in /etc/init.d and
separated by spaces. No services
will be restarted if the list is empty.

Any service that later fails unexpectedly after this upgrade should be
restarted. It is recommended to reboot
this host to avoid any SSL-related trouble.

Bug#445469: kaffe-pthreads: Broken glibj.zip symlink

2007-10-05 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: kaffe-pthreads
Version: 2:1.1.8-1
Severity: serious

As the subject says:

frobnitz:~# ls -l /usr/lib/kaffe/pthreads/jre/lib/glibj.zip
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 116 Oct 6 02:54
/usr/lib/kaffe/pthreads/jre/lib/glibj.zip ->
/home/mkoch/Debian/packages/java/kaffe/kaffe-1.1.8/build/jthreads/libraries/javalib/external/classpath/lib/glibj.zip

This causes kaffe not to work at all, giving ClassNotFoundExceptions.

(Also, while I'm at it: I noticed from my pbuilder build log that the
kaffe-jthreads testsuite failed almost all the tests, on a dual-core amd64
machine, whether building for amd64 or i386. Is this expected for
multi-processor systems? kaffe-pthreads passed all the tests, on the other
hand.)

Package: python-gammu
Version: 0.22-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Python policy

This package doesn't depend on python. This is a serious problem because
python can be updated to version 2.5 without python-gammu noticing,
making it stop to work.

This is probably just a matter of adding ${python:Depends}.
