Bug#425507: ardour: When built with SHLIBS=1, ardour 2.0.2 runs away with 100% cpu and locks up machine

2007-05-22 Thread ken
Package: ardour
Version: 1:2.0.2-1
Severity: grave

The default package of ardour 2.0.2, which is built with SHLIBS=1, locks up my
whole system. My machine is a Core 2 Duo 64-bit at 2.33Ghz w/2GB RAM, and jackd
with RT priorities set through the rtirq script.

Ardour's CPU usage goes to 100%. Mouse and keyboard become unresponsive. Crazy
amounts of Xruns in JACK, sound stutters, it's bad. The ardour-gtk 0.99 package
exhibits the exact same behaviour on this system.

Howerver, upstream ardour 2.0.2 runs perfectly on this system when run from its
source tree with ardev, when built WITHOUT debian patches or SHLIBS flags, as
default build.

Basically: ardour 2 runs perfectly with its own built-in libs, but using the
debian sid system libs, as the package does, causes ardour to not be
operational.

Bug#425506: specimen: Wipes out your loaded bank if you choose "New" and then "Save"

2007-05-22 Thread ken
Package: specimen
Version: 0.5.1-1.1
Severity: grave

I tried to create a new bank on the fly, by choosing "New" and then "Save" in
order to save the new bank somewhere, and it wiped out the existing bank I had
previously loaded! My heart jumped all the way up into my sinuses. Took me
about 15 minutes to re-create the bank.

Fix is here:

--- specimen-0.5.2.rc3.orig/src/gui/bank-ops.c
+++ specimen-0.5.2.rc3/src/gui/bank-ops.c
@@ -140,5 +140,6 @@
 int bank_ops_new ( )
 {
  patch_destroy_all ( );
+last_bank = strdup ("\0");
  return 0;
 }

The "proper" thing would probably be to gray out the Save button and then only
enable it again once the first patch has been added. But I didn't feel like
dealing with GTK's weird API for finding a handle to a widget by name. The
above simple patch will at least prevent catastrophic data loss, and is good
enough for me.

Package: linux-libc-dev
Version: 2.6.20-3

When compiling software such as GNU Emacs, the compiler complains
when LINUX_VERSION_CODE is conditionalized with an #if directive:

In file included from ./config.h:979,
from dispnew.c:23:
./s/gnu-linux.h:49:24: error: operator '>' has no left operand
./s/gnu-linux.h:52:24: error: operator '>=' has no left operand
./s/gnu-linux.h:55:24: error: operator '>=' has no left operand

The offending code in gnu-linux.h references LINUX_VERSION_CODE,

#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE > 0x10200
#define LINUX_SIGIO_DOES_WORK
#endif /* LINUX_VERSION_CODE > 0x10200 */
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= 0x2
#define LINUX_MAP_SHARED_DOES_WORK
#endif /* LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= 0x2 */
#if LINUX_VERSION_CODE >= 0x20400

... which is defined in /usr/include/linux/version.h:

#define LINUX_VERSION_CODE
#define KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) (((a) << 16) + ((b) << 8) + (c))

This is under unstable, gcc 4:4.1.2-2, libc6-dev 2.5-7

Thanks,

No, that's not a "missing key" message (gpg knows how to fetch missing
keys, and anyway then it wouldn't know who the key owner was), that's a
"bad checksum" message. In some other email client, I used to get those
from character set reencoding problems. (Well, you might call it "from
checking at the wrong point in the pipeline", but it happened whenever
there was non-ASCII involved, because reencoding failed to reproduce
the exact original signed text. That's what it signifies: whatever gpg
got fed was not the exact original signed text. And as I *have* seen
correct signatures, even with non-ASCII, with this setup, I think it
must be a problem at the other end.)

Bug#425390: above solution worked

2007-05-22 Thread Martin Schuster
Just wanted to report that the solution suggested above (steps 1-6)
worked for me.

I also had installed the tarball before, but then went back to
the 1.5 deb (mostly because some extensions didn't work).
But I'm quite sure I backed up my ~/.mozilla-thunderbird before
installing the tarball, and restored it afterwards *shrugs*

thanks,

In July, Norbert probably won't have time for packaging them, and not
for a while after that, nor anyone else in the Debian TeX Task Force.

Hi,

This is actually caused by bug #425505, which I just reported. The
problem is that pdf2ps, when ran without a controlling tty, ignores the
"output file" parameter...

So fixing bug #425505 *should* fix this.

There is currently still an issue with libbeidlibopensc2, which tries to
find libbeidpkcs11.so where it should look for
libbeidpkcs11.so..

As a workaround, you can install libbeidlibopensc2-dev.

I think this isn't a bug. The mktemp package is in the list of
essential packages. You should install essential packages in your

Bug#423631: segfaulting gdb on ia64

2007-05-22 Thread Matthew Wilcox

I hit the same problem as the buildd and Kurt. Since I need something
more recent than gdb 6.5 in order to handle current ia64 executables, I
tried to run it anyway. It's not pretty:

Eek, yes I should. I didn't deliberately remove it, but I guess something
happened in the past where it got removed.

Bug#425540: libpoppler-qt4-dev references header files that it doesn't depend on

2007-05-22 Thread Sune Vuorela
Package: libpoppler-qt4-dev
Version: 0.5.4-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

libpoppler-qt4-dev contains poppler-qt4.h:
 33 #include

unfortunately, this header file isn't shipped in neither libpoppler-dev
or in libpoppler-qt4-dev. It is in libpoppler-qt-dev though.
libpoppler-qt4-dev doesn't depend on libpoppler-qt-dev.

Two possible solutions:
move poppler-page-transition.h to libpoppler-dev
or make libpoppler-qt4-dev depend on libpoppler-qt-dev

I tihnk libpoppler-qt-dev is mostly for qt, so I think the first
solution (moving the file) would be best.

without access to poppler-page-transition.h, packages fail to compile
with:

/usr/include/poppler/poppler-qt4.h:33:37: error:
poppler-page-transition.h: No such file or directory

If you have some time to look at this, could you try building a
CVS checkout of GDB on ia64? Maybe that will work better.

Bug#421582: Upload anyone?

2007-05-22 Thread Esteban Manchado Velzquez
Hi,

It has been near a month now, and this package hasn't been uploaded.
There was even the upstream patch in the initial report.

Please, Jay, upload it or I will NMU the package :-) Actually,
shouldn't you have a co-maintainer? I can co-maintain the package if you
want to. Or even take it over if needed...

Bug#424401: NMU for these RC bugs

2007-05-22 Thread Steve Langasek
tags 421988 patch
tags 424401 patch
tags 424806 patch
tags 424573 patch
thanks

Hi Stuart,

Since ming seems to be accumulating RC bugs and one of these bugs is now
causing build failures in dependent packages
(http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=gnash&arch=alpha&ver=0.7.2%2Bcvs20070518.1557-1&stamp=1179829245),
I've taken the liberty of preparing a 0-day NMU to fix these four bugs.

The NMU diff is attached; I believe the changes are almost all
self-explanatory (or explained adequately in the changelog), except perhaps
the change to png2swf for bug #421988. I considered several different fixes
for 421988:

- have ming dpkg-divert swftools -- this would be inappropriate because the
two programs under the name png2swf aren't commandline-compatible.
- have ming conflict with swftools -- inappropriate for the same reason.
- rename png2swf to img2swf (the usage() function already used this name
rather than png2swf) -- overly intrusive, and even though the code
*should* work for both png and gif images, in practice png2swf.c has a
(questionable) check for the filename extension of the source file
- stop shipping png2swf at all -- I gave more than a passing thought to this
because the code doesn't seem to be well-integrated and the command isn't
even mentioned in the generic manpage for the package, but I concluded
that this would be more intrusive than is appropriate in an NMU.

In the end I settled on just a distinguishing name for the binary and the
manpage.

The resulting NMU will be uploaded to incoming shortly.

BTW, the manpage doesn't look very good to me at all -- as I said, it
doesn't even mention some of the binaries it claims to be the manpage for,
and it provides *no* usage information whatsoever except for a generic
'--help' option. I would suggest that dropping this manpage is better than
shipping it (rewriting it to be useful would, of course, be best). I have
not done this because again, it didn't seem an appropriate change for an
NMU.

Cheers,

As php4 will soon be removed, it is very important that we:
 - update the dependencies of all applicable packages to coexist with php5
 - remove source and/or binary packages which have no use without php4

   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * High-urgency upload for RC bugfixes.
   * Drop hard-coded dependency on obsolete package name giflib4g, the correct
dependency is already being picked up via shlibs. Closes: #424401.

 Closes: #424806.

these are end-user binaries, not helper binaries for the library, so
shipping them under /usr/lib is an FHS violation.
   * Rename png2swf to png2swf-ming, to eliminate the file conflict with
swftools since the two programs don't have compatible commandline
syntax. Also fix the name displayed in png2swf's usage function,
which was inaccurate anyway. Closes: #421988.
   * Take care to remove the build-php5 directory and the generated
libming-util.1 manpage in the clean target. Closes: #424573.
   * Clean perl_ext before cleaning the toplevel dir, to avoid leaving
"Makefile.old" around as cruft in the diff.
   * Fix up several manpage symlinks to match the binary names actually
 being shipped.

hi,

both libming-util and swftools ship 'usr/share/man/man1/png2swf.1.gz' but do
not conflict or add a diversion, thus fail to be installed on the same
environment:

 dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/swftools_0.8.1-1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/man/man1/png2swf.1.gz', which is also in
package libming-util
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
 Errors were encountered while processing:
  /var/cache/apt/archives/swftools_0.8.1-1_i386.deb
 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Bug#425550: icedove: Icedove get blank displays

2007-05-22 Thread Emmanuel Fleury

Package: icedove
Version: 2.0.0.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When first start nothing is asked and the preferences are not translated
to the new version. The application display almost normally except that
all the windows are blanked. Mail cannot be read, nor mail hierarchy
selected.

It seems that some old config file are left over by the install process
because doing 'aptitude purge icedove ; aptitude install icedove' fix
the problem.

This package has been identified as affected by the removal of php4 in debian.

As php4 will soon be removed, it is very important that we:
 - update the dependencies of all applicable packages to coexist with php5
 - remove source and/or binary packages which have no use without php4

for more information on what may need to be done, please see

  http://wiki.debian.org/PHP4Removal

if you have any questions, please contact the debian php maintainers

Bug#423631: segfaulting gdb on ia64

Much better:

=== gdb Summary ===

# of expected passes11320
# of unexpected failures69
# of unexpected successes 2
# of expected failures 41
# of known failures 45
# of unresolved testcases 1
# of untested testcases 5
# of unsupported tests 13

(ulimit -c was set to 0, so some of those fails are my fault).

Running it against gs, my previous testcase, I now get:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x20580e61 in strncat () from /lib/libc.so.6.1
(gdb) bt
#0 0x20580e61 in strncat () from /lib/libc.so.6.1
#1 0x4010a8a0 in ?? ()
#2 0x40005970 in ?? ()
Backtrace stopped: previous frame inner to this frame (corrupt stack?)

which is a damn sight better than the assertion failure.

IIRC there's a configure option you have to specify to use libunwind;
maybe that's what's broken.

Problem is that plugins will stay there I think and I have quite à few
(enigmail, noia, lightning, new mail icon, ...). Removing and

Seems to work much better after an almost clean reinstall (--purge on
all packages + manual removal of /etc/icedove, /usr/share/icedove).
Merge the bug with the installation problem one.

The upstream 2.0.10 release notes claim that it fixes security problems,

Bug#420174: please vote for the real bug(s) on ATI's bugzilla

2007-05-22 Thread Tim Olsen

The real bug that is the source of this problem is in ATI's code. ATI
has a bugzilla issue for this at
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=609

Please register for a bugzilla account on their site and vote for this
bug if you haven't done so already. You can allocate up to 100 votes
per bug so please allocate all 100 if you can.

There's also another bug that may cause a problem with a generic kernel:

http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=643

Bug 643 doesn't seem to affect me however on my amd64 machine when
using Aric's script. (maybe it's x86 specific or Aric's script works
around it?).

Thanks,
Tim

The new version I've uploaded at the WE built everywhere (well, except
of arm and sparc, but that's only because the two have so unbelievable
build backlogs), so this issue has been fixed.

Thanks for the patch.

I just added it to my SVN. I will run a few tests, especially since I
needed to apply your patch manuall since it seemed to be against some
spampd version I don't have (some of the patches in debian/patches
seemed to have been applied before writing your patch, while some seemed
to not have been applied and at least one included in your patch,
causing conflicts). After those tests, I will upload it to unstable.

Sven

Bug#421969: texlive-base-bin: Huge number of etex and pdfetex sub-processes created

2007-05-22 Thread Pierre Barbier de Reuille
Package: texlive-base-bin
Version: 2007-7
Followup-For: Bug #421969

While trying to upgrade this package, a huge number of etex and pdfetex
sub-processes were created. Probably hundreds of them ! It ate all my
memory (i.e. more than 2GB of RAM) and I had to kill them by hand to
regain control over my computer. Obviously, the install then fails.

-- Package-specific info:
If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries
(latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong
output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the
error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of
other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps
to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures!

If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of
output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem),
you can probably minimize it further. Instructions on how to do that
can be found at

Bug#425594: postgresql-common: /etc/init.d/postgresql-7.4 stop blocks infinitely

2007-05-22 Thread Gunter Ohrner
Package: postgresql-common
Version: 74
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

"/etc/init.d/postgresql-7.4 stop" blocks indefinitely for me, making a clean
system shutdown impossible without altering the
script.
The first time, this forced my to power-off my machine which could possibly
lead to filesystem corruption.

The problem seems to be that pg_ctl of postgresql-7.4 fails and
/usr/bin/pg_ctlcluster does not give the slightest hint
that something is wrong but simply blocks.

If I comment out close STDOUT just before the pg_ctl call, the following
appears on the console:

/usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 298: expr: Datei oder Verzeichnis
nicht gefunden
/usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 299: [: : integer expression expected
/usr/lib/postgresql/7.4/bin/pg_ctl: line 307: sleep: Datei oder Verzeichnis
nicht gefunden
(endlessly repeated)

I'm not sure what's causing this - my default system shell /bin/sh is bash, as
on most other Debian systems I guess, and the
code looks like valid sh / bash script code to me.

However, it's deadly that pg_ctlcluster does not notice that pg_ctl failed.

Hi,

Your package is failing to build with the following error:

../../../src/boehm-gc/os_dep.c: In function 'GC_disable_signals':

This is probably because it was build using linux-libc-dev instead of
linux-kernel-headers. You might want to look at #423462.

necessary.

bug in libpoppler-qt-dev - I will keep this open until it is fixed to not get

Hi Sven,

The libcurl package has bumped sonames, so all packages depending on
libcurl3 need to be rebuilt for libcurl4. An attempt to do so for tclcurl
fails, because tclcurl has a versioned build-dependency on
libcurl3-gnutls-dev, which is now a virtual package:

 dpkg-checkbuilddeps: Unmet build dependencies: libcurl3-gnutls-dev (>=
7.15.0-2)
 dpkg-buildpackage: Build dependencies/conflicts unsatisfied; aborting.

A full build log can be found at
.

Please update your package's build dependencies to refer to the appropriate
libcurl4 -dev package, so that the curl transition can move forward for
lenny.

Thanks,

patch management a lot. I've only adopted those patches I really know
about why they're needed so it's completly possible that I've lost
 something.

Are there any logfiles in /tmp/, with fmtutil or similar in the name?
Please send the youngest one as an attachment. Furthermore, we need

Why do you think this is related to #421969?

Bug#424833: New mod_bt .deb's

2007-05-22 Thread Tyler MacDonald
tag 424833 pending
thanks

Hi Julien,

mod_bt development has continued to stagnate for awhile... one of
these days I'll get the time to keep going on it... my next goal is to get
it moved off of this perforce repo into subversion... i've gotten sick and
tired of perforce...

Anyways, i've rolled up a new release to deal with bug #424833. The
only change should be a lack of dependancies on php4, and a lack of a
php4-apache2-mod-bt package. You can find the new package here:

http://www.crackerjack.net/mod_bt/debian/etch/

Let me know when you get a chance to upload it :-)

Thanks,
Tyler

Bug#421969: texlive-base-bin: Huge number of etex and pdfetex sub-processes created

2007-05-22 Thread Pierre Barbier de Reuille

Hi,

I linked this message to #421969 as the final message (once every
process was killed) was the same. I must say I didn't see the bug
#419987 in the list (sorry about that, I will look more carefully next
time). However, I did not get xmltex installed ! I installed the latest
version of xmltex and now it seems to be working properly.

Thanks,

Why do you think this is related to #421969?

While trying to upgrade this package, a huge number of etex and pdfetex
sub-processes were created. Probably hundreds of them ! It ate all my
memory (i.e. more than 2GB of RAM) and I had to kill them by hand to
regain control over my computer. Obviously, the install then fails.

Hi!

Somehow libsmokeqt4-dev doesn't contain the symlink to libsmokeqt4.so.1
- this makes it a bit hard to link anything.

$ ls -la /usr/lib/libsmokeqt4.so
ls: /usr/lib/libsmokeqt4.so: No such file or directory

I think this untested patch fixes it:

Bug#424795: libphp-jpgraph: affected by php4-removal

2007-05-22 Thread Christian Bayle

Hi

I would prefer 2) since this is used in gforge package. I'll have a look
at what I can do, but I'm afraid this will finish with 1) and a non-free
package. Upstream never answered to solicitations to remove or change a
small sentence...unfortunatly

Maybe there is free equivalent?

Christian

Hi,

This package has been identified as affected by the removal of php4 in
debian.

As php4 will soon be removed, it is very important that we:
- update the dependencies of all applicable packages to coexist with php5
- remove source and/or binary packages which have no use without php4

Upstream is explicit that php5 is not supported for the 1.x branch. Debian
even has an old version of libphp-jpgraph 1.x because newer are not free
enough.

This means that we basically have two options:
1) Remove libphp-jpgraph altogether.
2) Patch up libphp-jpgraph to be php5-compatible ourselves and maintain
libphp-jpgraph perpetually, since there's no upstream.

It all depends on someone willing to do (2). I've done some work for this
package in the past but am not interested in doing it.

Christian, what do you think?

Thijs

Bug#425625: CVE-2007-2754: integer overflow and heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in freetype

2007-05-22 Thread Stefan Fritsch
Package: libfreetype6
Version: 2.2.1-5
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch
Justification: user security hole

A vulnerability has been found in freetype. CVE-2007-2754:
"Integer signedness error in truetype/ttgload.c in Freetype 2.3.4 and earlier
might allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted TTF image
with a negative n_points value, which leads to an integer overflow and
heap-based buffer overflow."

A patch is at [1].

Please mention the CVE id in the changelog.

Oh, then testing for the existence of /boot/grub/ seems to be an
accurate additional test. Thanks for the info.

Bug#425390: Problem with enigmail

2007-05-22 Thread Sylvain Archenault
I managed to make Icedove 2.0 work with my old profile following the 6
steps.

Nevertheless, I had to remove the enigmail package because it is not
supported by 2.0 version. Icedove stays blocked while trying to find
update for Enigmail (maybe it's due to permission problems, don't check
this). Putting enigmail in conflict could be a good idea.

After importing my old profile, I wasn't able to create a new compose
window, I don't know why. If I have the time, I will take a closer look
to this issue tomorrow, looking to other recent bugs seems to give some
hints about possible reasons.

Bug#425634: qemu: Images >4GB formatted with raw produce errors

2007-05-22 Thread Eckhart Wörner
Package: qemu
Version: 0.9.0-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The following steps used to work fine for me in 0.8.2-5, but fail with current
version of qemu.

- Create a raw image with: qemu-img create -f raw temp.img 5G
- Run a Windows XP installation CD (probably others as well) using: qemu -hda
temp.img -cdrom somewinxpcd.iso -boot
- Format all available space with NTFS (quick format should be sufficient)

Result: Windows aborts formatting with error
Happens: always
Related:
A raw image with an existing Windows XP installation (size ~12G) freezes qemu
at start-up, consumes 100% cpu, has to
be killed using ctrl+c

I voted for grave, as raw is default for qemu-img create.

Bug#425639: pciutils (Priority: standard) depends on libpci2 (Priority: optional)

2007-05-22 Thread John Wright
Package: pciutils
Version: 1:2.2.4~pre4-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.5

pciutils depends on libpci2, but libpci2 is of lower priority.
According to Policy 2.5, "Packages must not depend on packages with
lower priority values (excluding build-time dependencies)." You
mentioned in #399161 that you planned to drop the libpci2 dependency
after etch anyway--here's another reason to do so.
