Package: libghc6-happs-dev
Version: 0.8.8-1
Severity: important

libghc6-happs-dev depends on libghc6-binary-dev, plus HList (which I
can't find as a Debian package), yet it doesn't mention these in the
package dependencies:

Setting up libghc6-happs-dev (0.8.8-1) ...
Reading package info from stdin ... done.
ghc-pkg: dependency binary-0.3 doesn't exist (use --force to override)
dpkg: error processing libghc6-happs-dev (--configure):

...
install libghc6-binary-dev
...
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up libghc6-happs-dev (0.8.8-1) ...
Reading package info from stdin ... done.
ghc-pkg: dependency HList-0.1 doesn't exist (use --force to override)
dpkg: error processing libghc6-happs-dev (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 libghc6-happs-dev

cheers, Phil

Bug#420276: Copyright file incomplete; possibly includes non-free/undistributable data

2007-04-21 Thread Andrew Donnellan
Package: blobwars
Version: 1.06-2-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

It appears that the current copyright file is incomplete. It needs to include
a full license statement; see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2003/12/msg7.html and
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html

Additionally, it seems that the music files in the package are under an unclear
license and could possibly be non-free or even undistributable.

It has just finished building (v0.13.5), and tested ok.

It's making its way to ftp-master right now :-)

I've just removed the autom4te.cache directory from the source
tarball, it saves more than 700 KB that way.

Otherwise nothing to notice, the build went just fine.

Thanks,

JB.

Bug#410389: patch for new gtk2hs upstream version

2007-04-21 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

thanks for the patch. Some questions:
 * Did you send your patch to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I can’t see it
there.
 * It is always easier for the maintainer if the patch is against the
deebian sources, not the original sources. Basically what you sent me is
a new debian package, not a patch on the old one.
 * I see rather large *.list and ld.script files added in your patch.
You surely did not create them yourself. If there are created during the
package build, make sure they are removed on the clean target, to keep
the .diff.gz concise and readable.

Thanks for your contribution anyways. I hope that Liyang will make use
of them soon.

Greetings,
Joachim

Package: pommed
Version: 1.2~dfsg-1

Dependency: libsmbios1
Version:0.13.4-1

Pommed fails to start (with "sudo /etc/init.d/pommed start") on my MacBook
(CD, 1.83GHz) with the error message:

"Starting pommed: /usr/sbin/pommed: Symbol lookup
error: /usr/lib/libsmbios.so.1: undefined symbol: __cxa_pure_virtual"

Restarting with "sudo /etc/init.d/pommed/restart" gives no error message, but
the special keys don't work in that case. When reinstalling 'pommed', the
same error message appears, followed by

"invoke-rc.d: initscript pommed, action "start" failed."

I'm running a current Debian unstable (Sid) with 2.6.18-4-686 kernel (version
2.6.18.dfsg.1-12). I upgraded to Sid from Etch just recently (2 April 2007),
running the same kernel, where I had installed the above 'pommed'
and 'libsmbios1' (as well as the 'libconfuse0' dependency) manually, since
these are not available in Etch. Pommed then ran fine, with all the F1--F5
and Eject keys working. Even some months before that I had the 'mbpeventd'
package similarly working fine.

Julien Blache says in answer to some other bug that kernel 2.6.19 is required
for 'pommed' to run, but that has not been my experience on the original
MacBook CoreDuo. The above problem seems related to the dependency
package 'libsmbios1'.

Hello,

since the upgrade to 0.13.4 I get this:

# /etc/init.d/pommed start
Starting pommed: /usr/sbin/pommed: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/libsmbios.so.1: undefined symbol: __cxa_pure_virtual

Downgrading to the former version 0.12.1-3 and this problem isn't
there.

Package: pommed
Version: 1.2~dfsg-1

Dependency: libsmbios1
Version:0.13.4-1

Pommed fails to start (with "sudo /etc/init.d/pommed start") on my MacBook
(CD, 1.83GHz) with the error message:

"Starting pommed: /usr/sbin/pommed: Symbol lookup
error: /usr/lib/libsmbios.so.1: undefined symbol: __cxa_pure_virtual"

Restarting with "sudo /etc/init.d/pommed/restart" gives no error message, but
the special keys don't work in that case. When reinstalling 'pommed', the
same error message appears, followed by

"invoke-rc.d: initscript pommed, action "start" failed."

I'm running a current Debian unstable (Sid) with 2.6.18-4-686 kernel (version
2.6.18.dfsg.1-12). I upgraded to Sid from Etch just recently (2 April 2007),
running the same kernel, where I had installed the above 'pommed'
and 'libsmbios1' (as well as the 'libconfuse0' dependency) manually, since
these are not available in Etch. Pommed then ran fine, with all the F1--F5
and Eject keys working. Even some months before that I had the 'mbpeventd'
package similarly working fine.

Julien Blache says in answer to some other bug that kernel 2.6.19 is required
for 'pommed' to run, but that has not been my experience on the original
MacBook CoreDuo. The above problem seems related to the dependency
package 'libsmbios1'.

Bug#420012: newsbeuter: (on unstable): segfaults on reading URLS, new build fixes it.

2007-04-21 Thread Nico Golde
Hi,
after a bit more debugging it turned out that indeed libmrss
is the problem.

Between libmrss 0.17 and 0.17.1 the mrss_t structure changed
so the relative addresses of the elements in the structure
changed and newsbeuter doesn't know. That's why it's out of
bounds and that is also the reason why a recompile solves
the issue. So we have an ABI change in libmrss here.
Kind regards
Nico

Bug#420320: libgdal1-1.4.0: Missing shared library.

2007-04-21 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: libgdal1-1.4.0
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

It seems that libgdal1-1.4.0 is missing it's shared library. The -dev
package has a symlink for it, but the library itself is missing:
./usr/lib/libgdal1.4.0.so -> libgdal1.4.0.so.1.11.1

libgdal1-1.3.2 seems to have alot more files than libgdal1-1.4.0, so
more might be missing.

> 'int eaccess(const char*, int)'

The bug here is in ruby1.8-dev, which needs rebuilding against the
latest libc6-dev. A binnmu should be sufficient if ruby is binnmu safe.

Here's what's going on:

/usr/include/unistd.h in etch didn't prototype eaccess, so that
prototype is a pretty new addition. When ruby was last built, it
didn't find eaccess(), so /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/config.h doesn't
define `HAVE_EACCESS' and /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i486-linux/missing.h tries
to prototype it, but this clashes with the new prototype in unistd.h
because ruby's prototype misses off the `throw ()'.

So I'm reassigning this bug to ruby1.8-dev.

Cheers,
Olly

Bug#415034: Reassign to libnettle-dev?

Howdy,

I believe this build failure is caused because libnettle is not linked
against libgmp. As such, I believe that this bug should be reassigned
to libnettle-dev and the attached patch applied to fix this problem.

Thanks for the explanation. No need for a new upload of ruby1.8, this
will get handled with binNMUs.

Bug#420345: docbook2x: docbook2x-man fails in a clean chroot

2007-04-21 Thread Adeodato Simó
Package: docbook2x
Version: 0.8.8-3
Severity: serious

Hello. Installing the new version of docbook2x in a clean chroot yields an
unfunctional package:

  % docbook2x-man foo.docbook
  /usr/bin/db2x_xsltproc: could not execute /usr/bin/xsltproc
/usr/bin/db2x_xsltproc: cannot use this XSLT processor --- try another one.
Ran out of memory for input buffer at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/Parser/Expat.pm line
469.

One would say a dependency on xsltproc is missing.

This is making some packages FTBFS.

Thanks,

All programs linked with liboil0.3 are causing a SIGILL on an IXP4xx
XScale CPU. This is due to the following code in liboil/liboilcpu.c:

   switch(arm_implementer) {
 case 0x69: /* Intel */
/* assume that all Intel chips support CP14 timestamp */
   _oil_profile_stamp = oil_profile_stamp_xscale;

I don't know how to detect if an Intel CPU has support for CP14
timestamp, therefore I suggests to disable this detection for now. Here
is the patch I used:

Bug#420356: Package not binNMU-able

2007-04-21 Thread Daniel Baumann
Package: cyrus-sasl2
Severity: serious

Hi Maintainers,

thank you for your work on the cyrus-sasl2 packages. However, your
package is not binNMU safe because of wrong used depends declarations.

There are two proper ways of handling it correctly:

0. Old-school: foo (>= ${Source-Version})

1. New-school: foo (= ${Source:Version}) or (= ${Binary:Version})
depending on the package type/relation.

but you use a wrong one, namely foo (= ${Source-Version}). That has the
effect, that e.g. the libsasl2 transitional package doesn't work if a
binNMU was scheduled, which is atm the case:

---snip---
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libsasl2: Depends: libsasl2-2 (= 2.1.22.dfsg1-8+b1) but 2.1.22.dfsg1-9
is to be installed
---snap---

Please use *either* old-school *or* new-school, but *not* current one.

Thanks,
Daniel

Package: cyrus-sasl2
Severity: serious

Hi Maintainers,

thank you for your work on the cyrus-sasl2 packages. However, your
package is not binNMU safe because of wrong used depends declarations.

There are two proper ways of handling it correctly:

0. Old-school: foo (>= ${Source-Version})

1. New-school: foo (= ${Source:Version}) or (= ${Binary:Version})
depending on the package type/relation.

but you use a wrong one, namely foo (= ${Source-Version}). That has the
effect, that e.g. the libsasl2 transitional package doesn't work if a
binNMU was scheduled, which is atm the case:

---snip---
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libsasl2: Depends: libsasl2-2 (= 2.1.22.dfsg1-8+b1) but 2.1.22.dfsg1-9
is to be installed
---snap---

Please use *either* old-school *or* new-school, but *not* current one.

Thanks,
Daniel

Two comments:

  - non-binNMUability does not warrant a serious bug.

  - your explanation is wrong. What is happening here is that libsasl2
was dropped in the -9 upload; you should remove it (it's a
transitional package).

Bug#420379: flgrx fully broken by new xorg versioning policy

2007-04-21 Thread xavier . gnata
Subject: fglrx-driver: flgrx fully broken by new xorg versioning policy
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 8.28.8-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Hi,

fglrx now fails to load because /usr/bin/Xorg -version answers 1.3.0 (I used to
answer 7.1.0). See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=420306 to
unserstand that it is not a bug but a better versioning policy.
However, it prevents fglrx to work :
(II) LoadModule: "fglrx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so
(II) Module fglrx: vendor="FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc."
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 8.28.8
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.0
[R200Setup] X version mismatch - detected X.org 1.3.0.0, required X.org 7.1.0.0
(II) UnloadModule: "fglrx"
(II) Unloading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//fglrx_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module "fglrx" (module requirement mismatch, 0)

I cannot see a simple patch to solve the pb for now :(

BTW, I have also tried this an up to date fglrx driver and the pb is the same.

Hello. Installing the new version of docbook2x in a clean chroot yields an
unfunctional package:

  % docbook2x-man foo.docbook
  /usr/bin/db2x_xsltproc: could not execute /usr/bin/xsltproc
/usr/bin/db2x_xsltproc: cannot use this XSLT processor --- try another one.
Ran out of memory for input buffer at /usr/lib/perl5/XML/Parser/Expat.pm line

One would say a dependency on xsltproc is missing.

This is making some packages FTBFS.

Bug#420390: Purging tetex transition packages removes texlive configuration files

2007-04-21 Thread Frans Pop
Package: tetex-base
Version: 3.0.dfsg.3-5
Severity: grave
Justification: Makes texlive packages unusable

This BR is a follow-up to the discussion on the d-tex-maint mailing list
that starts at [1] and in which a a series of unexpected behavior is
discussed seen while building the Debian Installation Guide after making
the transition from tetex to texlive.

Part of the problems discussed there can be traced to this BR: the fact
that some essential configuration files had gone missing.
Important here is that at some point I decided to *purge* the old tetex
transition packages (which is a completely valid action).

The problem seems to be that the "ownership" of some config files is not
transfered from the old tetex packages (now empty transition packages) to
the corresponding texlive packages.

Attached is a tarball with a series of files that show the changes
in /etc/texmf/ and in installed packages in the following series of
actions:
01 Start situation with cleanly installed texlive, including several
   texlive-lang-* packages
02 Purged all TeX related packages: one file not deleted
03 Clean install of Etch tetex packages
04 Upgraded to a somewhat minimal texlive install (without the
texlive-lang-* packages); at this point some "old" tetex config files
are still installed (diff 04 and 07)
05 Purge old transition packages
06 Purge whole installation: 10tipa.cfg remains behind
07 Clean install of texlive again, this time same packages as 04

Here is an overview of differences in /etc/texmf between:
A) an Etch tetex installation, upgraded to texlive
B) a clean texlive installation

The following files are present after A, but not after B:
/etc/texmf/updmap.d/10tipa.cfg

I suspect that this file should have been deleted during the upgrade of
tipa 1.3-4 to 1.3-5, but isn't.

The following files are present after B, but not after A:
/etc/texmf/dvipdfm/config/dvipdfmx.cfg (maybe)
/etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps
/etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf (maybe)
/etc/texmf/metafont/misc/modes.mf
/etc/texmf/tex/generic/config/pdftexconfig.tex
/etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/color.cfg
/etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/graphics.cfg
/etc/texmf/tex/latex/config/hyperref.cfg
/etc/texmf/web2c/mktex.cnf

Two files are marked as "maybe" as I'm not 100% sure if they should be
installed or not or how they were created. It seems that that the first
was created as the result of a 'texconfig-sys' run (which may also
explain why it was not purged in "02"). I'm unsure about the second as it
was not present in "01", but it was in "07".

Cheers,
FJP

I'm not sure why this bug is being closed, as it seems this is still
a problem for quite a few users, including myself.

I've tried forcing removal and still get the error. I read this full
bug report, and am not quite sure what is meant by shotgun theory.
Either way, there seem to be some mis-aligned dependencies as a user
should be able to remove a package.
