Package: syslog-ng
Version: 2.0rc3-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

I've configured syslog-ng to log from the net and to a remote host, and it
worked fine.

Oct 4 06:25:05 beteigeuze syslog-ng[3953]: SIGHUP received, reloading
configuration;
Oct  4 06:25:05 beteigeuze syslog-ng[3953]: Duplicate stats counter;

AT the 4th Oct syslog-ng was upgraded from version 2.0rc1-2.2 to 2.0rc3-1.
2006-10-04 08:01:26 upgrade syslog-ng 2.0rc1-2 2.0rc3-1

And at the 5th Oct 6:25 it dies quit, after (or while) cron.daily runs.

Oct  5 06:21:34 beteigeuze syslog-ng[11869]: Log statistics;
Oct 5 06:25:01 beteigeuze /USR/SBIN/CRON[12306]: (root) CMD (test -x

Oct 5 06:25:18 beteigeuze syslog-ng[11869]: SIGHUP received, reloading

Since there are no more entries in log-files (local or remote) because the
syslog-ng process is gone
without a word. After a few days I took notic that syslog-ng is gone so I start
it with
„/etc/init.d/syslog-ng start“ without any problems.
But next mornig after cron.daily syslog-ng dies again. I start it again and it
works the hole day till netx
morning.

Oct 13 06:25:01 beteigeuze /USR/SBIN/CRON[31470]: (root) CMD (test -x

Oct 14 07:31:07 beteigeuze syslog-ng[2079]: syslog-ng starting up;
version='2.0rc3'

I thought there is a cron-job killing syslog-ng, so I start every script in
/etc/cron.daily/ by hand but
nothing happend. I tried /etc/init.d/syslog-ng reload but it worked fine - till
next morning.

So I downgrade to syslog-ng 1.6.5-2.2 and it worked fine over the next morning
and so on.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux etch, up-to-date

Bug#395861: related to dbus migration

2006-10-30 Thread Michael Ablassmeier
hi,

this is somethow related to #385378. libnet-dbus-perl assures to close
all open connections within DESTROY, if not alreday done by the
programmer. This, however, should not be done while using shared
connections (i think its better to dbus_connection_unref here, but then
im not into dbus stuff at all).

Simply disabling the test wont work, this also breaks applications using
libnet-dbus-perl.

The Module has to be updated in order to work with the latest dbus
versions, there might be more issues than just this. Upstream seems not
to be that active, latest release back in July.

bye,
- michael

Reply-To: Michael Ablassmeier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

hi,

as it stands it seems that libnet-dbus-perl has some problems when
dealing with latest dbus versions. Do you intend to update the module
to work correctly again in a foreseable time?

Attached 2 links to the debian bug tracking system which show what
problems im talking about:

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=385378

and

 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=395861

especially the last one seems to need some more care on the module (im
not into dbus stuff but i think using dbus_connection_unref on shared
connections does the job)

you are reporting against the wrong package,
the mdadm initramfs hook is done by the mdadm maintainer.
i haven't look since long into it. hope it gets more solid for release.
leaving the severity to the mdadm maintainer to judge.

aboves messages are from the mdadm initramfs hook.

what do you expect by setting the root twice??
that doesn't make any sense, if your root is an lvm inside of md
you need to pass the second boot arg and the mdadm hook
should initialize the raids.

please tell which version of mdadm you are using:
dpkg -l mdadm

It's rather clear to me; a bug that causes a system hard lockup like this
must surely be a kernel bug as long as the application is using the kernel
to access the hardware, no?

At a first glance this looks more like a TLS emulation kind of problem
than an instruction set discrepancy. But it'd take a bit more detective
work to figure out what's really going wrong, and I guess there is no
guarantee that this is the same problem the netwinders are seeing in any
case.

 Yes, I updated gnome-games to 2.16, and I didn't knew about the
 dependency on this particular file.

I've uploaded gnome-hearts_0.1.2-2 which addresses the problem of the
default configuration which should now reference the new bonded.svg
instead, this upload also reintroduces bonded.png for people with
 bonded.png in their config.

I'm leaving this bug open, but with a lower severity as it is still a
bug if the program crashes when some files are missing.

Needless to say I can't reproduce this. Maybe the failure is transient;
verifier.t depends on DNS and the public DKIM key at
shan._domainkey.vmt2.cis.att.net being available. Too bad the test script
doesn't print more details.

So this test should be disabled, since you can't expect the buildd to be

/usr/lib/libSDL.la mentions "-lcaca -lcucul" in dependency_libs, but
none of the matching dev packages are pulled by libsd1.2-dev. As a
result, it breaks the build of unrelated software (in my particular case,
gcompris).

Bug#390023: multipath-tools: Stopping the process before configuring will solve it

2006-10-30 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Package: multipath-tools
Version: 0.4.7-1.1
Followup-For: Bug #390023

The upgrade path fails. Installing version 0.4.7-1.1 (no upgrade) is
successful. When upgrading, stopping the process before configuring it
(dpkg --configure multipath-tools) solves the problem.

It seems that when prerm script is run during upgrade, 0.4.7-1 init
script isn't able to stop the daemon, since its pidfile is wrong. That's
what causes the issue.

Since this version solves a 0.4.7-1 bug, an upgrade path should be
offered, because, definitively, 0.4.7-1.1 is a better candidate to
stable etch.

Oops, my apologies. I checked versions in Ubuntu, then went back to
Debian to report the bug since it wasn't Ubuntu-specific, but forgot to
check for newer versions in Debian. That was rather stupid of me.

Sorry about that, and thanks for the response,

I don't think this is the case. This package has been used a lot
already. What is obviously true that some particular document is
unusable.

Does that mean that you previously used the old cjk-latex packages?

Can you provide a sample file for this problem - ideally a short one?
There's an explanation on how to create a minimal example on

Bug#396178: libsasl2: Please use /dev/urandom instead of /dev/random

2006-10-30 Thread Ivo De Decker
Package: libsasl2
Version: 2.1.19-1.5sarge1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The use of /dev/random blocks all processes that use libsasl2 when the
random pool is (almost) empty. This makes the packages (and the services
that depend on it) completely unusable.

Please use /dev/urandom instead (or at least make this a runtime option).

Thanks!

That's a lot of question. I don't remember where it's documented but I
have already seen several bug reports about this behaviour.

It does not need to be autobuilt, but as you say it should be able to be
built on a Debian systeme, that's a policy requirement.

The quick'n dirty workaround would be to disable test I think, since we
don't really need them.

I will let the RM take the decision to lower the severity of this bug or
not.

Yes, fixing this is way overdue & is in-progress.

Yes, I was looking at that issue this weekend - I think I'll be able
to replace the call to disconnect in DESTROY with one to close, but
I need to do some more testing with it & check the API rules.

I've also got a couple of fixes in works todo with VARIANT data types
and asynchronous calls that need fixing. Hopefully I should be able
to get it all sorted in the near future.

Dan.

Package: krita
Version: 1:1.6.0-2
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Krita keeps producing windows when using Text tool with a tablet stylus. This
causes the X server to freeze (unless you kill Krita
very soon). X server can only be killed by using remote shell
(CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE does not respond anymore), therefore likely causes
data loss in X applications.

The bug does not appear in Krita 1.5.2 (but has already appeared in earlier
versions).

I believe you, but where is this documented? Also, since libmail-dkim-perl is
Arch: all, it doesn't really need to be autobuilt (by buildd.debian.org). Can
the severity be lowered for this reason? BTW, why make test at all? Shouldn't
the packaging and the distribution guarantee that building works everywhere
if it works in one place?

Upstream released a new version which should fix this:

The current version is hmake-3.12 (date 2006-09-12).

* New feature: hmake -M dependency analysis now adds "# -cpp" if cpp is
required.
* Fix to enable hmake to build with ghc-6.6.

The previous version was hmake-3.11 (date 2006-05-03).

* New: the #! runhs script interpreter.
* Bugfix: now finds dependency B in module A where { import B; ... }
* Bugfixes: for compatibility problems with gcc-4.0.
* Re-organised the internal cpphs library.

Greetings Arjan

that simply a wishlist bug since it fails to build on a standard

This kind of problem should be solved with a previously sent patch.

Bug#389579: libapache-mod-auth-mysql: FTBFS against apache 2.2

2006-10-30 Thread robbert

Hi Roel,

> Invalid command 'AuthUserFile', perhaps misspelled or defined by a
> module
> not included
> in the server configuration

This looks like a different issue. I don't think the AuthUserFile
statement is needed for mysql authentication.

I would think the message is caused by the fact that you didn't include
the 'authn_file' module (which enables you to use 'AuthUserFile'
statements in your Apache config).

This is breakage from the apache2 -> apache2.2 upgrade.

Can you try if a 'a2enmod authn_file' (and an apache restart) helps?

Robbert

Package: app-install-data
Version: 0.1.32.0debian
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Icons such as /usr/share/app-install/icons/ realplayer-icon.xpm and
AdobeReader.png are unlikely modifiable, and therefore fail the DFSG. Of
course, it would be easier to tell if there was a copyright notice for
each icon...which won't be easy.

I suppose the package should be removed from testing for now.

I wish. My system is a SPARC Ultra60 with a Sun Elite 3D graphics card.
So far as I know, it is supported only by the sunffb driver. Anyway, I
tried use the VESA driver just for good luck and it claimed it couldn't
see anything. :-(

Sorry,

Bug#383481: Must source code be easy to understand to fall under DFSG?

2006-10-30 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

First I want to tell to you Kyle and Matthew, that this is not a personal
thing against you, and that I have noted the question mark in the end of the
subject ("Contains obfuscated source code, DFSG violation?"). I actually want
to thank you for making me think on what my opinion about open source is.

(I have decided to Cc debian-legal, but I'm not subscribed to that list
so please CC me if you want me to read it).

Now to the reason why I wrote this mail.
I have a question about the bugreport (#383481) because I do not
understand what the problem is. The source code is there, you can
modify it and release it under the same license. Perfectly legal under GPL.

Let me take two examples:
* Person A create a driver by reverse engineering, determine
that by setting a number of memory parts to different values,
the hardware will work as expected. Person A do not know why.
* Person B create a driver knowing, that by setting a number of
memory parts to different values, the hardware will work as
  expected. Person B knows why.

Both persons have released their code under the same license
and they look (almost at least) the same.

Which one will break DFSG?
 - Person A?
 - Person B?
 - None?
 - Both?

I'll take each item in DFSG and determine it from that points:
-
#1 Free Redistribution
No restriction here.

#2 Source Code
Source code is available. Not perfectly readable, but this is the
source that was released, and licensed away, so yes we have the source.

#3 Derived Works
No restriction.

#4 Integrity of The Author's Source Code
No restriction, you can change as much as you want.

#5 and 6 No Discrimination ...
No discrimination on specific groups in the licsense.

#7 Distribution of License
No problem here.

#8 License Must Not Be Specific to Debian
No problem here.

#9 License Must Not Contaminate Other Software
No restriction here.

#10 Example Licenses
Just examples, and according to the DFSG, GPL is a fully ok license.
-

The only thing is #2 above. The question is if someone must release
all it knows when it release open source software (according to DFSG)
or if you can release only enough to make something work. I can also
put it as if you want to make good software, when you release something
as open source?

What I want to tell with this message is that we should stick to
what the license tell. The important thing is that we do not
build something binary that do not contain the code that can
produce that binary.

If we consider this as a violation of the DFSG (because of #2 above),
then where do we draw the line between closed and open source?
Must software be easy to understand, or should we consider all software
that have hardcoded values as closed source?

Will all reverse engineered drivers with hardcoded values be considered
as closed source? Must you always release everything that you know
when you release somehting as open source?
Must we release the instructions on how to paint an image, how to
move the arm while painting if we release an image as open source?

I think this is worth considering. Personally I think this bug can
be closed.

Regards,

// Ola

Package: apache2-common
Version: 2.2.3-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I just upgraded to 2.2.3-2, and apache2 no longer starts due to various
configuration issues. As I have a rather complicated apache2 setup, I
decided to back up /etc/apache2 and re-install a clean new configuration
so that I can start with something that works. Unfortunately, the
default installation (without any customization) has a broken
configuration:

apache2: Syntax error on line 185 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax
error on line 1 of /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.load: API module
structure `php5_module' in file /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so is
garbled - perhaps this is not an Apache module DSO?

To fix this, I temporarily disabled php5 with `a2dismod php5`. After
this apache2 starts, but then all child processes segfault. Snippet of
/var/log/apache2/error.log:

Yes, setting gtk themes from kcontrol was the most prominent way to
produce this kind of a crash. I'll reassign the respective bug report to
one of the gtk theming engines, since it's actually a bug in one of them.
Nice to know that the problem is solved for you now.

Thanks for your patience and have fun (not only with) inkscape,

Package: check
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch upstream

[Justification: breaks any package using the AM_PATH_CHECK macro in
configure.ac]

AM_PATH_CHECK uses AC_MSG_WARN to warn about the deprecation of AM_PATH_CHECK
in favor of PKG_CHECK_MODULES. However, this causes the following error when
attempting to run autoconf:

autoreconf: running: /usr/bin/autoconf
configure.ac:13: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_PATH_CHECK
If this token and others are legitimate, please use m4_pattern_allow.
  See the Autoconf documentation.
configure.ac:37: error: possibly undefined macro: PKG_CHECK_MODULES
autoreconf: /usr/bin/autoconf failed with exit status: 1

This occurs because autoconf complains whenever it sees an unexpanded symbol
which looks like it should have gotten expanded. The attached patch (written
by Jamey Sharp) fixes this problem by not letting autoconf see the full
strings AM_PATH_CHECK or PKG_CHECK_MODULES. Note that various attempts to use
empty bracket quotes or doublequotes do not seem to work correctly, either
failing to prevent attempted expansion, failing to avoid warning, or leaving
quote characters in the resulting message; the empty variable approach in the
attached patch represents the only successful method Jamey and I found which
avoids all of these problems. I have CCed the autoconf list, in the hopes
that they might have a better solution to the problem of writing the name of a
macro in an AC_MSG_WARN message.

This wouldn't make the package *completely* unusable, except that the package
doesn't actually ship the pkg-config file needed to use PKG_CHECK_MODULES,
which AM_PATH_CHECK suggests as a replacement. An additional bug report for
that
will follow shortly.

Bug#396238: ftp.debian.org: Please remove db2latex-xsl

2006-10-30 Thread Frank Küster
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: serious

Dear ftp masters,

please remove the db2latex-xsl package. This is not a RoM, but there
doesn't seem to be any active maintainer or anyone who is interested in
the package; the Maintainer field of the package lists a mailing list,
Debian XML/SGML Group <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
At least I'm the last uploader, 10 months ago.

The reasons for the removal have mainly been outlined in

http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2006/10/msg00539.html

there is also some more information in the bug in the Cc, #327616. In
short: It is RC-buggy with a DFSG violation, it is dead upstream,
there's a nearly drop-in replacement, dblatex.

Meanwhile, cdbs - which was the only package that used it - has been
changed to use dblatex instead. Consequently, no package depends on it
in unstable (and cdbs has been hinted to enter testing, see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2006/10/msg00631.html).

The involved release managers also agree with the removal, see
e.g. http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2006/10/msg00632.html

Regards, Frank

/var/log/dpkg.log should have a list of what happened. Could you please
check that you upgraded ntp-simple before purging it?

I think that this is an arts problem. (Suffice to say that I don't use arts,
and I don't see this message.)

Anyway, https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/arts/+bug/55973>
looks like it's relevant - could you check this and reassign accordingly?

Package: systemimager
Version: 3.6.3-2
User: debian-release@lists.debian.org
Usertags: nonfree-doc gfdl

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the IETF under
non-free license terms:

systemimager_3.6.3.orig.tar.gz:systemimager-3.6.3/dhcp-2.0pl5.tar.gz:
dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc2131.txt
systemimager_3.6.3.orig.tar.gz:systemimager-3.6.3/dhcp-2.0pl5.tar.gz:
dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc2132.txt
systemimager_3.6.3.orig.tar.gz:systemimager-3.6.3/dhcp-2.0pl5.tar.gz:
dhcp-2.0pl5/doc/rfc951.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The etch release policy says binary and source packages must each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/etch_rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding a 'dfsg' version name to it.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: "Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages".

Thanks,
Simon

SASL is a security-sensitive library. Far from being "grave", any request
that it be changed to not require good randomness as input is a wishlist
bug, and one I would recommend the maintainers not implement.

Boh, that's an auto builder, and if I login with its account:
% echo $LANG
C

So, I don't know if it's really related.

Bug#363324: Dummy bug

That's a bit confusing. Would you care to explain that again?

Sure.
This bug should normally be closed, as nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 is
no longer in testing and therefore nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 can't
FTBFS in testing anymore. However, when nvidia-kernel-2.6.18-2-686 and
company reach testing and nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 is old enough,
britney will transition nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 to testing unless a
RC bug prevents that, since britney ignores build-dependencies and won't
realize that letting nvidia-graphics-modules-i386 transition will make
it instantly FTBFS if nvidia-graphics-drivers (and therefore
nvidia-kernel-source) isn't in testing then.

Some other things I need to investigate :
 - Are you using Sid ? Etch ? Something else ? What is your arch ?
 - Are you up-to-date ?
 - Have you unofficial versions of some packages installed (wxWidgets for
instance) ?
 - Can you give me the output of the following commands :
- file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_qa-2.6.so.0

Package: apache2-redirtoservname
Version: 0.1-1
Tags: patch

Please upload a version of apache2-redirtoservname that compiles and
works with apache 2.2, since that may go into sid and etch soon. The
main problem is the use of apr-1 instead of apr-0. You can test with
apache 2.2 in experimental.

The following patch may help, but I can't test it, as I'm getting
mysterious autoconf-related errors which seem to be unrelated to the
patch.

Thanks,
Peter
