Hello,

We sent you an email a while ago, because you now qualify
for a much lower rate based on the biggest rate drop in years.

You can now get $327,000 for as little as $617 a month!
Bad credit? Doesn't matter, low rates are fixed no matter what!

Bug#606007:

2014-02-12 Thread Craig
I filed a bug against the Ubuntu version of this package here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1279116

They suggested raising the issue in the Debian package system as the chroot
comes from the upstream Debian package. And I came across this bug.

I was able to figure out all of the configuration files necessary in the
chroot as I have several other services configured in a similar way, but
the lack of the /var/tmp directory really took some digging to figure out.
Would it be possible to include the creation of such a directory in the
package installation?

Short of that, is there a way to configure the gssapi library to use a
different location for the credential cache that does exist in the current
postfix chroot structure?

Bug#749703: linux-3.13.patch

2014-06-24 Thread Craig
Is the nvidia-kernel-dkms going to be updated to include the
linux-3.13.patch ?

I've never applied a patch manually before.

Bug#749703: nvidia-kernel-dkms: kernel module fails to load with error 'Unknown symbol acpi_os_wait_events_complete (err 0)'

2014-06-04 Thread Craig
Will the patch mentioned in Konrad Barth's post
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=749703#5

Be added to a new package ?

I am currently unable to use a kernel from backports and the nvidia
driver, because of the error that is mentioned.

Bug#1023822: orphan-sysvinit-scripts: firewalld sysvinit script is missing from firewalld package, can it be added?

2022-11-10 Thread Craig
Package: orphan-sysvinit-scripts
Version: orphan-sysvinit-scripts_0.07_all , orphan-sysvinit-scripts_0.11_all

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
I installed firewalld with "apt install firewalld" and it did not start with
"service firewalld start". It reported as not found.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I did a web search yesterday and I found a working version of a firewalld
sysvinit start script inside an ubuntu package for version 20.04 LTS. The link
is here ( https://ubuntu.pkgs.org/20.04/ubuntu-universe-
arm64/firewalld_0.8.2-1_all.deb.html ) and a copy and paste of the script is
below:

   * What was the outcome of this action?
I placed this script into the correct location at /etc/init.d/firewalld , made
it executable, updated the rc.d defaults, and started using it with:

service firewalld status/start/stop/restart/reload

   * What outcome did you expect?
It has worked fine. I made no changes at all to this script. It just worked.

Bug#1078938: bsdgames: Cannot Launch from GNOME menu (various issues with desktop files including Terminal= should be true)

2024-08-17 Thread Craig
Package: bsdgames
Version: 2.17-34
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: j...@whitehouse.gov

Dear Maintainer,

This package includes desktop files in /usr/share/applications/bsdgames

All of them include `Terminal=True` which should be lowercase `Terminal=true`.

Some of these desktop files should be removed for programs that need input on
the command line, such as "wtf", as they immediately exit (by design) when
launched with no arguments.

Even with `Terminal=true` fixed, they will not launch from my menu in GNOME
where they are. Could be a GNOME problem. The games themselves work fine from
command line, but in addtion to menu not starting them, if I use gtk-launch it
won't find them in /usr/share/applications/bsdgames, only if I move them to
/usr/share/applications.

Bug#349833: Shipping Clerk - flexible time work-at-home opening

2007-09-30 Thread Craig

Our company is looking for energetic and accountable individuals to occupy
Shipping Clerk positions throughout the USA. These vacancies are entirely
home-based and do not require any travel or relocation. They are also
suitable for students and senior citizens who are able to dedicate up to
three business hours per day to their duties. No special qualifications are
required, although previous shipping or customer service experience is a
plus. We are an international company providing mail/internet order
opportunities for a global clientele since 1997. We are based in Russia, and
also have offices in Latvia and Kazakhstan. Our business provides
online/Online Order facilities for those who are unable to benefit from the
convenience of e-commerce due to lack of a banking relationship with an
internationally recognized bank or because major online vendors will not
ship to their location. We have domestic purchasing agents who place the
orders on behalf of our clients, and the goods are then shipped to the local
shipping clerks for further sorting and international shipment. We also
provide escrow services for high amount and/or web auction orders, and offer
assistance with customs clearance, if required. Currently, we are looking
for individuals to fill in the positions of shipping clerks throughout the
USA. Your duties will include receiving, sorting, repackaging and re-sending
the orders made on behalf of our clients using the pre-paid USPS shipping
labels that you will receive via email. You will be paid $20 for each parcel
that you ship, plus $5 for each order that you will need to re-sort or
re-package. We will also cover any other authorized expense, such as extra
insurance or shipping materials. Your remuneration will be remitted to you
via Western Union twice a month. You can expect to handle 5-15 incoming
packages weekly, following a 2 week probation period. You can perform your
duties from the convenience of your home. You will generally be re-shipping
the orders on same day or next day basis, so you will not need to sacrifice
your home space to storage. You will only be receiving orders placed with
reputable online vendors and delivered by major courier services, such as
FedEx and UPS, who pay great attention to ensuring that they are not
involved into trafficking any illegal substances or hazardous materials.
Thus, there will be no risk on your end. We also encourage you to open and
inspect each package that you receive to ensure the legitimacy and safety of
itsâ content. In order to fill the shipping clerk position, you need to be
aged 18 and above, have a permanent address where you are available on a
regular basis and also have access to phone and email. In order to ensure
that you can be entrusted the client merchandise, we will need to verify
your identity and confirm that you do not have any previous criminal
convictions. To apply for this position and for more information on our
company, please fax your resume and (optionally) cover letter to: (309)
  431-7288.

Bug#99933: [1]: Antioxidants mean anti-aging! Try 1 FREE bottle

2008-03-14 Thread Craig
How would you like to try a FREE bottle of the most powerful antioxidant on
earth?

Super Antiox GSE™ has been formulated by a leading authority in nutrition
and supplementation and fortified with Grape Seed Extract! Read the
imformation below to see the true value antioxidants provide the body,
then send for your free bottle!

To get your FREE bottle go to http://www.getsuperantiox.com and get 1 FREE
bottle of Super Antiox GSE™

Antioxidants

Emerging science suggests that unstable little
molecules called free radicals may be linked to disease.

Where do they come from? Everywhere. Not only
does your body produce them as part of normal
metabolism but there are also many external sources
such as air pollution, alcohol, pesticides, sunlight,
tobacco smoke, drugs, and even fried foods.

Antioxidants like those found in POM Wonderful
Pomegranate Juice fight hard to help prevent free
radicals from doing their damage

Grape Seed Extract
It is beneficial in treating degenerative and deteriorating diseases because of
the
potent antioxidant qualities it has. Some expensive supplements, derived from
pine bark,
contain 85% proanthocyanidin while grapeseed extract contains 95%
proanthocyanidin.

It helps increase the effectiveness of vitamin C by acting as a carrier and as
a restorer of
oxidized vitamin C by working with glutathione. These nutrients belong to the
flavonoid family.
The action of this nutrient is to act as an antioxidant and stabilize collagen
and elastin - both
important proteins in connective tissues, as well as blood vessels and muscles.

Although they are not essential nutrients to the body they do have a part to
play in achieving optimum health.

These nutrients are water-soluble and free of side effects since excess is
simply excreted in the urine.
Another positive effect of these flavonoids in the body is the sparing of
consumption of vitamin C.

PCO help with increasing intra cellular vitamin C levels, decreasing capillary
permeability and fragility, scavenges
oxidants and free radicals and uniquely binds to collagen in order to protect
it from destruction.

Free radicals
These nutrients are also helpful as anti-inflammatory, antihistamines, and
anti-allergens and are very effective
free radical scavengers. They possess up to 50 times stronger antioxidant
activity than those of vitamin C and E,
Beta Carotene or Selenium.

They are great to promote tissue elasticity, healing injuries, reducing
swelling, edema, as well as improving circulation.

With all of these properties it is clear to see that it is great for anti-aging
and anti-disease treatment. Daily intake of these
nutrients, as well as other antioxidants, will help with preventing premature
aging, diseases and decay.

It has also been reported that it is helpful in fighting varicose veins as well
as high blood pressure and diabetes. In certain
individuals vision improved as well as general well-being.

Bug#528542: support "include" statements in group files

2011-03-09 Thread Craig
Actually obviously doesn't work properly as I've done nothing with directories.
I settled on
. filename
as the syntax (almost like bash) as # is the comment delimiter.
Perhaps I should use

p path
g group
@ netgroup

and factor out the dir lookup elsewhere in parameter.c to use the
appropriate source.

Thoughts?

Bug#528542: Here's my patch for adding include semantics to the machine list and group files

2011-03-09 Thread Craig
Simply
if a line starts with @ the rest is assumed to be a netgroup
if a line starts with + the rest is assumed to be a "dsh" group
if a line starts with < the rest is assumed to be a filename
for the last one, filenames that start with "/" are taken as is
otherwise they're assumed to be relative to the file where they're
listed.

Bug#1102005: Workaround works

2025-05-01 Thread Craig
> I confirm this workaround works...

This package should be removed from trixie since it doesn't work without
workarounds. As mentioned, these workarounds are only temporary anyway and
will likely be irrelevant by release time.

> I'm not sure there is a way to replace ublock-origin, given that manifest
v2 is going away...

The alternative for chromium is ublock-origin-lite however it's too late to
get new packages into trixie as far as I know.

> Perhaps we need to have brave browser in Debian as an alternative?

Debian already offers an alternative browser, it's called Firefox, and
there is already webext-ublock-origin-firefox working fine.

I have confirmed this problem still affects xfce4 4.20 in trixie, and
results in synaptic failing silently when launched from menu. Installing
lxpolkit and adding it to startup works fine. Is there a way to promote
this bug to show up on the list of bugs for xfce4? To see it I had to
check "repeat merged".

One easy solution is for this bug is for package maintainer to add to xfce4
package recommends xfce-polkit|lxpolkit|policykit-1-gnome.

So it may be fine, it doesn't actually do anything useful. If a
pre-existing program that was integrated into dpkg and/or the buildds
was working, we wouldn't have this problem.

Can you try to kill lpd and then:
/usr/sbin/lpd -F -D network

We also might need to strace the daeomon to see where it is hanging.

If so, the 64 bit people have been consistent in their lack of
assistance so the bug can just sit there until one of them looks into
it.

Unless there is a consensus otherwise, I will only be putting in

The alternative is to have a similiar options file for procps that
can set some variables, but I don't see a great need for it.

What I don't understand is why this is a bug, your files are not

Bug#258263: same problem with digitaldj

2006-01-09 Thread Craig Small
Package: digitaldj
Version: 0.7.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #258263

At least the submitter got a little futher than me!

I get to where it says unable to connect to SQL server, if i click Yes
it crashes.

Running with -v gives me some more things, but the point is it crashes
whenever it goes near the database.

I suspect it is related to the old mysql client library, here is the
last few lines of a strace.

I missed that. Yes that one works.

Do you need someone to sponsor you? I can do it if you want.
Also is there an easy way of doing a mass-import of mp3s into the
database? mp3insert is one file at a time.

Your problem sounds like it is LFS (Large File Support) related but
everything has been LFS enabled for quite some time now.

Other mentions of this problem have pointed to filesystem corruption or
doing strange things (eg large files on NFS partitions). Is there
anything special about this computer?

I cannot see any difference between the old one and the new one.
It kills the process using that file. The stderr/stdout output look the
same too.

Bug#345585: libpam-krb5: ssh error: 'ssh_gssapi_storecreds: Not a GSSAPI mechanism' when using keyboard-interactive/pam

2006-01-01 Thread Craig Gallek
Package: libpam-krb5
Version: 1.2.0-1
Severity: important

I began having this problem after upgrading from version 1.0-12 to
version 1.2.0-1. Downgrading to the original version fixes the problem.

The ssh client gives the following error message after typing the
password:
Read from remote host optimus: Connection reset by peer
Connection to optimus closed.

Here are what I believe to be the interesting lines from sshd's debuging
output (I think the line about ssh_gssapi_storecreds is the problem):

Also note that this problem only occurs when authenticating the user via
the keyboard. It works just fine if you are forwarding credentials.

pam_krb5.so doesn't appear to be used when
ChallengeResponseAuthentication is set to no. Only pam_unix.so is used.

UsePAM is currently on. However, it looks like the
KerberosAuthentication option must be set as well in order to use
pam_krb5.so. So the combination of ChallengeResponseAuthentication no,
KerberosAuthentication yes (it defaults to no), and UsePAM yes appears
to fix the problem.

I stuffed the patch up, not sure how exactly.
I built it on io this time and other than an unknown HZ value message

Bug#337517: logcheck-database: dovecot login line should have the word "plain" in lowercase not uppercase

2005-11-04 Thread Philip Craig
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.42
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

I had to change the case of the dovecot login line or it was generating
spurious logchecks. Here is the version after my change:

^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ dovecot: (imap|pop3)-login: Login:
user=<[.[:alnum:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, method=(plain|LOGIN|(CRAM|DIGEST)-MD5),
rip=(:::)?[:.[:digit:]]+, lip=(:::)?[:0-9a-f.]+(, TLS)?$

The above was all on one line of course. I only changed the case of
plain from "PLAIN" to "plain" because I don't use the other entries.
Possibly they all need to change as well but I don't know dovecot well
enough to know this.

I'll look into it, but being a wishlist it may not happen.
There is a tricky work-around. The top-left part of top shows the name
of the program as you called it.

So
  ln -s /usr/bin/top blah
  ./blah
gives you a top that says "blah" up the top left of the screen.

Not ideal, but at least you know which one you are on.

Then it is a limitation of your kernel. procps only shows what the
kernel gives it.

1065381 / 3600 / 24

12 days uptime?

Bug#314382: lprng: log rotation leaves /var/log/lpr.log with incorrect owner/permissions

The package doing this is sysklogd and those permissions would be ok
as the syslog daemon is the one writing to it.

> -rw-r- 1 root adm 0 Jun 15 07:48 /var/log/lpr.log

So the question is not why are the permissions like that, they're fine
for a syslog-generated file, but why is checkpc complaining?

I strongly suspect that you've got something configured incorrectly and
it would lead to problems as syslogd has the file open. It might mean
for example that lpd will block as it tries to open the log file.

# fuser -v /var/log/lpr.log

 USERPID ACCESS COMMAND
/var/log/lpr.log root 4171 f syslogd

So where is /var/log/lpr.log referenced in your printcap or /etc/lprng/
files?

The length of URL you can add to a news source is not big enough. I'm

Fixing this will not only enable snapshots, it'll stop machines BREAKING

Bug#237754: lvm2: snapshot doesn't work: dm-snapshot.ok ?

2005-05-28 Thread Craig Ringer
Package: lvm2
Version: 2.00.24-1
Followup-For: Bug #237754

It sounds a lot like the issue I've encountered. If so, the problem is
that /etc/init.d/lvm doesn't attempt to modprobe dm-snapshot before
activating volumes. A volume that has a snapshot associated cannot be
activated if snapshot support is not loaded; thus, activating the volume
fails.

To fix, add 'modprobe dm-snapshot >/dev/null 2>&1' below the other
modprobe lines in /etc/init.d/lvm . It'd be great to have this in the
shipping package (maybe even in Sarge - it's only a trivial change, but
with the freeze and all...).

Perhaps this has something to do with the debconf key mentioned below.
dpkg-reconfigure has nothing to say about it though.

Bug#311310: ftp.debian.org: Please remove package rspfd

2005-05-30 Thread Craig Small
Package: ftp.debian.org

The package rspfd has been RFA'ed for over a year now (see #244078).
It is a pretty specific package and (as upstream) has no real work
done on it for a long time.

I think it is a fine candidate for removal from the archive. I'm sorry
I didn't realise it was still in there before.

lprng used to have /etc/printcap but for very good reasons I can no
longer remember (perhaps that conffiles need to be only for a single
package) it no longer has a printcap.

mtr cannot work out that it has reached the target destination when
run with the -l command. I'm also pretty sure that it is only with IPv6
targets.

www.6bone.net is 12 hops away from me using IPv6, but I get up to
18 hops with the last 6 being the same.

 mtr -c 2 -6 -l www.6bone.net | grep 'h 1[1-9]'

Running mtr without the -l flag gives the expected correct results.

I go for the obsolete and should not be included in any release option.
I actually believed it was already deleted. I had orphaned mnogosearch
proper a long time ago (to Philipp Hug), but that doesn't depend on
php.

Without the PHP extension, its just not a feasible package.

It's due to the old procps and/or kernel. In any case it was fixed
a long time ago in the sarge dist.

Sarge is close to been frozen which means woody will become the
old-stable dist. I am unlikely to fix this for such an old dist.

Bug#288856: Need more info about the specific problem

thankyou

Hello,
I'm having a bit of difficulty in working out how to easily fix this
problem where the VT100 chars crash your font.

Currently VT100 characters are enabled if
  - the character set is not UTF-8
  - there is a TERM variable set
  - the terminal has a VT100 character set

So is this problem due to an incompatibility of the VT100 character set
and the Cyrllic one or is it something more general?

I could have a specific test for that CODESET and use ASCII if that
is found. If you know a bit about C I can write a small program
to find what charset is used, essentially printf("Charset is %s\n",
nl_langinfo(CODESET));

OK so you're running a woody procps over not even an sarge but some

considering the last 2.0 procps was written in April 2002.

Bug#293397: glabels: Cannot print to non-default printer

2005-02-02 Thread Craig Small
Package: glabels
Version: 2.0.1-1
Severity: normal

Glabels prints fine to the default printer. This is ok, except that
when I want to print labels I want to use the manual sheet feeder which
means I send it to another printer called lexlabels.

Up until a version or two ago, I would have to print to a custom
printer called "lpr -P lexlabels". This wasn't great but it did work at
least.

So the first problem was that glabels doesn't recognise printer aliases
in the printcap.

A more serious problem is I changed my printcap so that lexlabels was
a normal printer entry and when glabels prints, it prints to the default
printer.

If I try the old go to custom printer and use "lpr -P lexlabels" nothing
comes out and I get on the screen.

That would strongly imply it is still the kernel doing something at
least different, perhaps wrong.

Can minicom and/or modemstat open it after printing once? I'm thinking
lprng is sitting there waiting for something and the "something" is not
happening.

I agree that that particular stty line solves this problem, but brings
about others. Overwriting a printer input buffer can lead to exciting
results, but not the ones you want.

Can you send my what your printcap is? The LPRng Cookbook suggests
this:

lp:lp=/dev/tty00
  :stty=raw crtscts 19200
  :sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P

Also if it is a postscript printer that sends back status you will need
a :rw clause to tell lprng to be read/write.

This appears to of changed. I thought the sequence was
  - lpr (prints ok)
  - lpr again (hangs, lpq says interrupted system call)

Are you aware of the strace program? It may be able to attach to the
process and tell us what it is trying to do. Ideally you would attach
before the first print, detatch, re-attach for the second print. That
way there are two traces.

Also running lpd on the command line with the flags -F -D=lpr
and capturing the output will help too.

Bug#300513: dhcp3-server: Do not attempt to start/stop/restart dhcpd if dhcpd3 -t fails (INCLUDES FIX)

2005-03-20 Thread Craig Ringer
Package: dhcp3-server
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: normal

The current dhcp3-server init script restarts dhcpd even if there's a
problem with the config file. The server provides a method for testing
whether the config file is valid before stopping the currently running
daemon, which if used would avoid the dhcp server ever being stopped
then failing to restart with the 'restart' argument to the init script.

Network admins usually don't like finding their network without a DHCP
server due to a typo. While they can test the config themselves before
restarting dhcpd, it seems better if the init script performed this
sanity check.

The code below should do the trick nicely when added to the init script
just before the case statement. Alternately it could be called
as a function from the stop and restart sections of the script.

# Refuse to do anything if the DHCP server config is invalid
if ! /usr/sbin/dhcpd3 -t >& /dev/null; then
echo "DHCPd self-test failed. Please fix the config file."
echo "The error was: "
/usr/sbin/dhcpd3 -t

Yes I have, it (or something close to it) will get into the next
release. However I'm not going to release a new version of a package
for some minor manual page changes.

I'm curious to know why the hurry? I missed it for some reason in the
last release.

We can try to find the leak. Are you certain that the leak is within
lprng and not the filters used by lprng? Generally most problems like
this are caused by filters, but of course lprng is not immune to bugs!

Unfortunately tracking down memory leaks is non-trivial for most
programs. Do you have any debugging done on the program or it is a
blank slate at the moment?

This means it is trying to stat() literally "/var/spool/lpd/%P".
The problem is not it is trying to do that, but why is it not
substituting %P

You're printcap is not exactly right and I'd say something within it
is causing the problem.

BTW, you could probably of reduced your printcap down to about 4 lines
using variable subsitition.

foo|bar|blah:\
:force_localhost@

Can you run checkpc -V, it will tell me which printer is upsetting it.

checkpc has not found your printers and goes into some strange state
because of this. checkpc -V is not displaying the list of printers
which is what it should be doing around the Init_tempfile area.

I think checkpc is not properly parsing the files correctly when it is
using an executable filter. I have a test rig setup here and can see
the same problem.

Yes, I thought I had something there but I don't.
The database dump is found at /usr/share/jffnms/sql/
If you know how to create a database, a user and import a database
dump then you are on your way.
Also check http://www.jffnms.org/jffnms/INSTALL

You better be real sure about that because sysctl.conf has been a
conffile for a very long time (years, but not sure how many).

$ dpkg -l procps | grep procps
ii procps 3.2.5-1/proc file system utilities
$ grep /etc/sysctl.conf /var/lib/dpkg/info/procps.conffiles
/etc/sysctl.conf

Your situation would not be the only situation where overwriting
procps would cause bad things to happen. In addition the conffile is
there, so if dpkg has decided to ignore conffile settings then that
would cause an even larger nightmare. I've heard nothing else yet
and this version of procps was uploaded in January.

Just in case it was a powerpc-specific build problem, I also checked one
of Debian's powerpc hosts and the conffile is identical to my alpha and
i386 ones (bruckner, unstable chroot if other developers were
wondering).

In short, I'm not that convinced this is a bug.

Bug#291934: lprng: Remote jobs never print and lpc lpq stops working

2005-07-21 Thread Craig Small
Hello,
After reading your latest update about this bug, I suspect there may
be something wrong with the underlying name resolution on your server,
rather than something wrong with lprng itself.

If you can send me your printcap and any files in /etc/lprng I can
then see if I get the same problem here. You can do things like change
the name and IP of the printers if you want.

Without some more information I will unable to work on this bug anymore.
As you can probably imagine, I cannot fix something I cannot see.

Bug#302086: mozilla-firefox: sound does not work with usernames > 8 with esd

2005-03-29 Thread Craig Small
Package: mozilla-firefox
Version: 1.0+dfsg.1-6
Severity: important

Boy did this one take a while to track down. The problem was that
mozilla played sounds for me (username 6 chars), user1 (7 chars) but
not user2 (12 chars).

/usr/bin/mozilla-firefox is a shell script that tries to work out if
esd is running for a user. However how it does it is very evil and
prone to breaking.

ps -o user, command will return a UID if the username is too long. That
means the grep fails so mozilla assumes there is no esd. Anything
wanting to use sound blocks trying to get to /dev/dsp

Don't ever try to find processes this way! There is a wonderful tool
that does this for you, it is called pgrep and is in the same package
as ps.

Don't match to an environment variable! Use id which is part of
coreutils and is Essential so its going to be there.

Also, why are you running the output of fuser through sed? I thought
stdout only prints the pids?

In any case, to find the esd process owned by you, try this
pgrep -u `id -u` esd

Much less evil!

Bug#317240: /usr/lib/base-config/Mirrors.masterlist: aarnet mirror doesnt have all the arches

2005-07-06 Thread Craig Small
Package: base-config
Version: 2.65
Severity: minor
File: /usr/lib/base-config/Mirrors.masterlist

The mirror file says that the site mirror.aarnet.edu.au does all arches,
except amd64. It doesn't have alpha.

On that site I can see the following: arm, hppa, powerpc, sparc, i386,
ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, s390 and source.

Doesn't help me find a mirror close by that has alpha packages, but at
least you get a file a little more correct.

Bug#317881: fc-cache is slow, should only run once per apt/dpkg session

2005-07-12 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: fontconfig
Version: 2.3.2-1

fc-cache should only run once per dpkg/apt installation session.
it should wait until dpkg/apt has exited before regenerating the font
cache etcotherwise, it ends up doing the excruciatingly long and slow
process every time a font is installed. it would be better to do it
just once for multiple fonts.

when executed, it should:

if fc-cache is already running, exit.
if apt/dpkg is running, sleep for 30 seconds. repeat until they have exited.

Bug#303012: inadequate description for mn-fit-doc

2005-04-03 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: mn-fit-doc
Version: 5.05-1

Description: documentation for Mn_Fit
This package contains the manual of Mn_Fit in PostScript and PDF formats.
For more information about Mn_Fit, please see the description of the
 mn-fit package.

the description should give at least some indication of what the package
is for, so that someone who has never heard of it before can decide
whether they want to install it or not.

telling the user that a -doc package contains documentation is redundant, the
user already knows that.

solution: cut and paste a minimal excerpt from the description of themn-fit
package into the desc for mn-fit-doc. e.g.

"Mn_Fit can perform a wide variety of mathematical fits and analyses
on data or histograms read in from a file"

note: same bug applies to mn-fit-dev and mn-fit-common.

Bug#303011: inadequate description on gauche-dev

2005-04-03 Thread Craig Sanders
Package: gauche-dev
Version: 0.8.3-1

Description: Development files for Gauche
This package contains development files of Gauche.

this description is inadequate because it fails to answer the key
question "what the hell is gauche?". descriptions should provide enough
information for someone who has never encountered the package before to
decide whether they want to install it or not. that requires telling
them something about the package.

the desc is also inadequate because it doesn't tell the user anything
that they don't already know - any debian user knows that "-dev"
packages contain development files. it's as useless as a description for
package "foo" saying "this package contains the program foo" without
bothering to describe what foo is or does.

solution: cut and paste the description field from the main gauche
package (or a minimal extract thereof) into the description for
gauche-dev.

NOTE: same problem applies to gauche-doc. telling the user only that a
-doc package contains documentation is worthless.

Bug#303357: apt-proxy times out with bz2 packages files and slower systems

2005-04-06 Thread Craig Sampson
Package: apt-proxy
Version: 1.9.28

In trying to update package lists from client machine (using apt 0.6x)
using either "apt-get update" or "aptitude update" large package files
appear to continually download upon rerunning of "apt-get update", as if
they are not properly being cached.

Looking at the logs then:

so far all looks good.

It can be seen that the Packages.bz2 file is requested by the client, the
server picks up the request, finds a local cached copy and starts a
verification of the file integrity. Not long after this though, only
seconds in fact as can be seen from the timestamp, the verification
process fails with a "Process Timedout"

The server thinks that the file has failed verification:

My own feeling on this is that the server is quite old (Pentium classic
133MHz) and its taking longer than expected to test the Packages.bz2 file:

real0m18.716s
user0m18.368s
sys 0m0.156s

This output obtained from the '/usr/bin/time'

I had a look at the python source for apt-proxy, but am not a python
programmer and couldn't find where the default timeout for the bzip
verification is stored/initialised). If you could point me to this I'll
happily change things in the source and fool about a bit to prove or
disprove my theory.

Note that this problem only appears to manifest on with clients requesting
.bz2 format Packages files - Debian testing does not show any problems as
it still uses the gzip format. Ubuntu (Warty) also does not show the
problem up (apt version <0.6x).

Happy to do any testing you think is appropriate.

Best regards,
Craig

Bit quick re-assigning this joey.
The reason why foo.doc-base.EX uses EX was because .ex got confused
with the lower case one. Is this still the case (which means it has to
remain .EX) or debhelper is fine about those now?

This was about an ancient debhelper bug that tried to install
package.doc-base.ex files, probably a few years ago now.
