Bug#291335: konqueror: view profile doesn't save everything it should.

2005-01-19 Thread andy
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.3.1-4
Severity: normal

I wish to have konqueror (filemanager) have no tabs and no toolbars,
while konqueror (webbrowser) has visible tabs and toolbars. Profile
support doesn't know how to do this but it is expected to know how.

Bug#292193: xmacrorec took keyboard and mouse and didn't give them back

2005-01-25 Thread andy

I start 'xmacrorec -d 500' and tell it ESC for quit key. Core keyboard

All this here is for me the same. Also I change the background colour in

Bug#337590: debian-installer: Partitioner makes extra swap partition sometimes

2005-11-04 Thread andy
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

PowerPC install, OldWorld mac, installing with HD-install vmlinux and
initrd, and businesscard ISO on HFS+ partition. All downloaded on
2005-11-04 at approx 1900 Pacific time.

I manually created a swap partition from the partitioner, then selected
'automatically partition the free space', and 'all files in one
partition'.

After completing, the partition list shows an ext3 partition for / and
an addition swap partition at the end of free space.

Bug#337901: digikam: jpeg image with attached audio - possible to support?

2005-11-06 Thread andy
Package: digikam
Version: 0.8.0-0beta2-1
Severity: normal

My digital camera, an HP m305 Photosmart, can attach audio recording
onto its pictures. I did some checking about, and it seems this is
probably some sort of vendor-specific thing, not part of exif. Still, I
would like to be able to seperate these audio portions into their own
files automagically.

I have a (3.5MB) sample file at
http://dalhagen.homelinux.net/~beata/embedded-audio.jpg, taken with my
camera.

If said link comes up broken, I can supply the file as well through
additional means.

Bug#337316: debian-installer: hd-install for powerpc fails to find the installation ISO image on an hfsplus partition

2005-11-03 Thread andy
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

I have it a MacOS 9.1 external hard drive attached to a 603ev/275
oldworld on hfsplus filesystem, and empty hfs filesystem on internal
hard drive (where I wish to install Debian). the "Scan hard drives for
an installer ISO image" does not find the 'debian-testing.iso' which is
the 250MB minimal installer image on the external drive. However it does
find this image when I copy it to the internal hard drive (where it
fails to allow me to repartition this drive).

The default mount order in /proc/filesystems is hfs before hfsplus, and
hfsplus always has an empty hfs filesystem alongside for older MacOS,
the installer will never find the image.

The installer appears to use /etc/filesystems which I have just
created with:
hfsplus
*

So perhaps this /etc/filesystems needs to be placed into the installer.

Just upgraded from woody to sarge, now rpc.mountd and rpc.statd seem to
ignore the restrictions in /etc/hosts.allow and listen blithely on all
addresses and interfaces. This is a security breech.

I did an strace on rpc.mountd, it never opens /etc/hosts.allow or
/etc/hosts.deny before doing a listen on 0.0.0.0

This is a regression from woody, as this used to work fine on woody, and
my mountd and statd were not open to the world.

nfsd is, however, working correctly, it seems.

If I do like this [where X.X.X.X/N is the network specification of your
trusted friends]:

# iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s ! X.X.X.X/N -i eth0 --dport 23 -j DROP

it takes it and adds the rule you would expect, but if I do like this

# iptables -A INPUT -m mport -p tcp -s ! X.X.X.X/N -i eth0 --dports 23,111 -j
DROP

earns you the [cryptic] error message:

iptables: No chain/target/match by that name

Perhaps it's just impossible to do this, but it kinda seems like a bug.
Non-negated source addresses work fine, but of course. Definitely there
is a way to work around it (don't use the multiport module), but it took
me a while to figure out that that was what was causing the mysterious
error message.

Package: apache2-mpm-worker
Version: 2.0.54-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

With mpm-worker and cgid, CGIs can't execute, because somewhere compiled
into the code is that path /var/run/cgisock which is quite different
from the /var/run/apache2/cgisock that comes specified in the cgid.conf
file! Without doing an strace, I would never have been able to figure
it out. Strace output, abreviated ~:^)

Bug#322298: konqueror: Would like per-tab support for 'proxy enabled' and other toggles

2005-08-10 Thread andy
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.4.1-1
Severity: wishlist

I think this would be great to have; not having its own set of proxy
settings but an option to disable/enable proxy *just* for a tab. Also
disable/enable cache, and image animation, just off the top of my
head. There might be other toggles this would make sense for.

Bug#323584: k3b: Want to make an on-teh-fly UDF-only disc ; dealing with files that don't fit ISO9660

2005-08-17 Thread andy
Package: k3b
Version: 0.12.1-2
Severity: normal

I happen to have some files I want to burn to DVD, that appear to be
larger than the ISO9660 limit, also some other files with illegal
ISO9660 filenames. I'd just like to burn a straight UDF disc without
having to make the disc images by hand.

Bug#415372: xml-resume-library: Makefile in debian-examples fails for pdf

2007-03-18 Thread andy
Package: xml-resume-library
Version: 1.5.1-6
Severity: normal

the Makefile distributed in
/usr/share/doc/xml-resume-library/debian-examples fails to create a pdf
file from the .fo file. the error is:
PassiveTeX is needed for this format, but it is not installed. Please
install the passivetex package.

however, passivetex is no longer available outside of debian stable:
# [2006-12-23] Removed 1.25-2 from unstable (Anthony Towns)
# [2006-02-04] passivetex REMOVED from testing (Britney)

xml-resume-library has an alternative dependency on fop, which does
create a pdf file. the following minor diff appears to resolve the
issue:
39c39
< xmlto pdf $(resume).fo
---
> fop -fo $(resume).fo -pdf $(resume).pdf

thanks!

Bug#315615: autofs and nis default start order

2006-10-27 Thread andy
the problem with the default start order for the services still exists
with:

autofs 4.1.4-11
nis 3.17-2

from browsing the thread i understand that this issue requires some
coordination between the nis and autofs packages and that the current
thought is that it should be fixed in nis.

it would be great if this could be sorted out before etch is released.
while there are workarounds, it would be a shame to go into the next
release with a broken-by-default configuration for a (not uncommon)
environment using nis and autofs.

thanks!

Bug#565784: epiphany-browser: double middle-click will paste URL

2010-03-31 Thread andy

served to paste a url in tab or window. this no longer works, but
a double-click now seems to perform this function. i do not have the

2010-03-31 Thread andy
Package: epiphany-browser

yes, i have enabled:
Ad Blocker

i disabled them all and quit and restarted epiphany. the symptoms did
not change. i also created a new test user and launched epiphany from
that account. same results.

that looks to have done it. after downgrading libgnutls26 to 2.8.6-1

Bug#756427: bugs.debian.org: Internal server error on certain bug IDs

2014-07-29 Thread Andy
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: important

Hi, I found this bug to be inaccessible with the current server setup:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=734114

BTW this is the bug which addresses the ugly format output by dpkg, especially
with grep, which is why I wanted to check out the posts there.

734112 and 734113 are working fine.

Bug#756444: dpkg: too wide columns when piping dpkg output

2014-07-29 Thread Andy
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.17.10ubuntu1
Severity: normal

It's not hard to guess that this bug is _very_ closely related to bug 734114.

However, that bug was about _redirecting output_, which sounds to me as if this
is only regarding the "greater than" sign(s) redirection (whether single
redirect or appending by applying two gt signs).

But "my" bug is about _piping output_ e. g. to grep, which creates a barely
readable output:

$ dpkg -l | grep '^ii\s\slibc'

For instance...
Using a *libc* wildcard and omitting the grep pipe will give a perfect output,
though.

Bug#671707: isc-dhcp-client: dhclient does not get ip address after fresh install

2015-05-06 Thread Andy
Package: isc-dhcp-client
Version: 4.3.1-6
Followup-For: Bug #671707

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

I'm not sure if this is isc-dhcp-client (4.3.1-6) package problem,
since i didn't do any debugging, but my networking autoconfiguration
has succeeded while installing fresh, new debian jessie. However,
after first (re)boot my eth0 couldn't get ip address, and that's how
the configuration of eth0 looked in /etc/network/interfaces after first
boot:

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

Bringing eth0 down with ifdown and bringing it back with ifup i finally
was able to get the ip address, netmask, gateway for eth0 and dns server
addresses in my /etc/resolv.conf. However my network configuration for
eth0 gets lost after reboot, but after few more reboots it might just get
back. I've successfully reproduced the same result trying to install debian
jessie on vmware and vbox. I tried to disable ipv6 by filling
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1" in /etc/default/grub and running
update-grub, but it didn't help.

Long story short - it just cannot get the addresses after clean install,
with default configuration. If it matters, i deselect all the software
while installing jessie, even standard system utilities. I only choose
to install sshd.

This is my first bug report, sorry, if i didn't do that the right way.

Bug#778573: xorg: Xorg shows blank black screen at startup instead of a Display Manager.

2015-09-07 Thread Andy
EXCUSE ME! but I reported the problem using reportbug, which took me
through 120 or more messages saying "is this the problem" and I suddenly
saw "Xorg shows blank black screen at startup instead of a Display
Manager." which describes my problem perfectly so I said Yes - this is
the problem. And you are ?

Bug#867742: boinc-client: After installation, then trying to initiate boinc-client, segmentation violation and the program exits

2017-07-08 Thread andy
Package: boinc-client
Version: 7.4.23+dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Boinc installed fine from the kfreebsd repository. but a segmentation
violation occurs (11 Frames) on starting the program
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I have tried to install the experimental package as suggested by report
bug and on another occasion I have tried to compile boinc from source code.
Both without success
   * What was the outcome of this action?
Both attempts did'nt work.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I'm trying to get it running on esxi 6.0 so I can put it on a server to
contribute to scientific research.

Tahnkyou for your time.

Bug#1030249: "prefclean output on ..." emails

2023-03-22 Thread andy
i have also started receiving email notifications from apt-listbugs and
am +1'ing the suggestion for a knob to turn off all emails.

in my case it seems related to an Acquire::http::Proxy setting.
 * when waking from sleep in a location where the apt-proxy is
reachable, about 1/2 the time (from a small sample size of 1 laptop
over a few days) it apparently tries to run before the network is
available and emails "E: getaddrinfo: Name or service not known
   [...]" (perhaps related to #964438).
 * when in a location where the apt-proxy is not reachable, i receive
emails every so often re: "E: Connection refused - Connection
refused".  while a valid complaint this is a known issue that i
don't need to hear about and would like to be able to turn off.

i am uncertain why these emails seems to have just started in the past
few days. afaik the only possibly relevant change i made was to update
Acquire::http::Proxy to a fqdn. please let me know if you would prefer
a new bug report as this may be only tangentially related to this
particular bug (while solution of an "off switch" is the same).

thanks in advance.

I can certainly reproduce the problem repeatedly, perhaps 50% of the time,
maybe more.

Will happily bisect versions to see if I can identify if this is a regression
or has always been present.

I may have some time available in a weeks time to investigate (half term)

I may be able to automate the process too

Bug#615508: workaround: sshoptions in [dest]

2022-11-20 Thread andy
it's ugly and obviously not the "right" answer, but i recently found
that even when using a remote source one can (at least w/backupninja
1.0.1-2) use the sshoptions in the [dest] section to pass in the
desired options, e.g.:

   [dest]
   type = local
   directory = /srv/backups/rdiff-backup/osmc
   sshoptions = -o IdentityFile=/root/.ssh/id_ed25519-backup

Bug#1027844: btrfsmaintenance: noted BTRFS_BALANCE_PERIOD default in /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance is inconsistent w/systemd timer

2023-01-16 Thread andy
hello -

thanks for the feedback... some comments inline. i must stress that
while i am a multi-year user of btrfs i do not read the linux-btrfs
mailing list and my opinions should be given appropriate weight.

regarding balance recommendations, my initial thought would be to make
the language in the README.Debian stronger. i had read that "Some
advocate not running it at all" but to me that implies "may be
unnecessary" rather than "may be actively harmful." on the basis of
the latter i am certainly considering setting the balance.timer back to
disabled. alternatively/additionally are there default options that
might make it safe(r)? e.g., Marc MERLIN's `btrfs-scrub`[1] (which i
used previously) suggested that "a null [metadata] rebalance should
help corner cases."

from my pov i'd still like to see the values harmonized. i originally
noticed the inconsistency because what i believed was the default
setting was creating a seemingly unnecessary systemd override file.
this became a nagging question to resolve :) if the (informed) user
has chosen to enable the btrfs-balance.timer then i would say harmonize
the value at "monthly" (1/4 the opportunity for issues).

> Thus, if I do anything, I'm inclined to set the period for balance to
> "none" everywhere.

given that one already needs to manually enable the service via
`systemctl enable btrfs-balance.timer` i don't think it's necessary to
set the default value to "none." this would result in the (imho)
counter-intuitive behavior of enabling something only to have it do
nothing. although an add'l comment re: the potential for harm in
`/etc/default/btrfs` that one would hopefully see when changing the
value from "none" to e.g., "monthly" may be the best way to ensure that
they are an informed user. so i could go either way on that.

> Also, what do you think about enabling the systemd patch watcher, so
> that the timers are updated automatically when
> /etc/default/btrfsmaintenance is modified?

as a sysadmin the steps of modifying a file and then running a command
for it to take effect is a normal part of my workflow. so i'm fine
leaving it disabled by default. other users might feel differently.

thank you...

sorry, i don't know any details beyond the comments in the script.

when i enabled the balance component i initially left
`BTRFS_BALANCE_PERIOD="weekly"` which is noted as the default in
`/etc/default/btrfsmaintenance`. but then it created a systemd
override file with `OnCalendar=weekly` in `/etc/systemd/system/btrfs-
balance.timer.d/schedule.conf`. this surprised me because i wouldn't
expect this to be necessary when using the default. then i checked
`/lib/systemd/system/btrfs-balance.timer` and found that the _actual_
default is `OnCalendar=monthly` and, well, here we are :)

Subject: /etc/default/tiger.default should be moved to /etc/default/tiger
Package: tiger

it appears that version 1:3.2.1-29 should have included /etc/default/tiger:
* Nice Tigercron by default, users wishing to change the nice can adjust
 it in /etc/default/tiger (Closes: #334186, #325257, #339655)
which is referenced in:
/etc/cron.d/tiger:DEFAULT=/etc/default/tiger

however, the actual file included in the package is /etc/default/tiger.default.

Bug#525718: triggered by setting /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop=false

2009-05-11 Thread andy
Package: nautilus
Version: 2.26.2-3
Severity: normal

i am also seeing this behavior after a recent upgrade. i can toggle
it on & off with the /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop setting.

using gconftool-2 to set it to "false" causes cpu usage to spike and
an ever-growing number of "Starting File Manager" boxes to open in the
window list. set it to "true" and the cpu usage drops and those
boxes start disappearing from the window list.

thanks in advance for your assistance in resolving this.

nope, there's just a single nautilus process and its parent is
gnome-session (output below).

as a note, i've seen this on 2 laptops. in the first the problem
started over the course of upgrading. the other (its replacement) was a
fresh debian install last week with a clean ~/.gconf and ~/.gnome2. the
issue appeared immediately.

thanks again!

minor correction, sorry... likely doesn't matter, but i reversed the
descriptions in the ps output in my earlier email. the first and third
snippets (higher SZ) were with "show_desktop=true". the second was with

Bug#528827: evolution-rss: evolution crashes when reading a certain rss feed

2009-05-15 Thread andy
Package: evolution-rss
Version: 0.1.3~git20090505-1.1
Severity: minor

after a recent evolution-rss upgrade evolution has been crashing
whenever i attempt to update the feed from
http://times.debian.net/?format=rss20.xml

if i create a new test user and add that single feed to evolution, it
crashes on the initial update. the feed works in the other readers i
have tried (which doesn't rule out a problem with the feed, of course).

thanks in advance for your assistance!

Bug#527739: 'Uncaught exception:' on aptitude startup

2009-06-29 Thread andy
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.5.2.1-1
Severity: normal

i started receiving this error when attempting to launch aptitude:
Uncaught exception: ./generic/problemresolver/choice.h:294: const typename
PackageUniverse::version& generic_choice::get_ver() const
[with PackageUniverse = aptitude_universe]: Assertion "tp == install_version"
failed.

i can toggle this behavior by adding the suggested lines from
/usr/share/doc/ia32-apt-get/NEWS.Debian.gz to /etc/apt/preferences. with those
lines aptitude crashes on startup. without them it will start.

i have attached my /etc/apt/preferences and output from `apt-cache policy`.

thank you!

Bug#536507: rhythmbox exhibiting similar behavior w/mp3 files

2009-08-03 Thread andy
Package: rhythmbox
Version: 0.12.3-1
Severity: normal

hello -

i have noticed similar behavior with mp3 files on which i have used mp3gain.

it is reproducible for me with the following steps:
* download an mp3 file and rhythmbox will play it without issue
* run `mp3gain -k -r $file`. after processing, rhythmbox will still play the
file,
but it becomes unresponsive once playback has started
* run `mp3gain -s d $file` to delete stored tag info and again there are no
issues.
(running `mp3gain -u $file` which should undo changes made by mp3gain does
not appear
to be sufficient)

per the original submitter, disabling '/apps/rhythmbox/use_replaygain' seems to
be a workaround.

thanks.

Bug#484553: Acknowledgement (libft-perl: depends on the unavailable perlapi-5.8.8)

2008-06-04 Thread andy
i believe this is related to #478983 - defoma recommends libft-perl in
lenny, as that is the message i was receiving when aptitude tried to
resolve the dist-upgrade conflict.

Bug#459017: "Could not read file Error writing to the port." Olympus SP510-UZ

2008-01-03 Thread Andy
Subject: gphoto2: Olympus SP510-UZ "Could not read file Error writing to the
port."
Package: gphoto2
Version: 2.2.0-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Error connecting Olympus SP510-UZ to Debian Etch KDE.

On plugging the camera in and OK-ing the connection (on the camera menu),
Konqueror attempts to initialize the camera (camera light flashing) for a
while, then stops with the error window:

"Could not read file Error writing to the port."

Same problem using the 486 kernel. But Kubuntu 6.06 on the same PC still works.

"env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --auto-detect -L" contains the following:

0.471941 gphoto2-port(2): Setting settings...
10.472577 gphoto2-port(0): Could not set config 0/1 (Connection timed
out)
10.472814 sierra/sierra.c(2): Operation failed (-37)!
10.472930 gphoto2-port(2): Closing port...
10.473038 gphoto2-port(0): Could not release interface 0 (Invalid
argument).
10.473206 context(0): An error occurred in the io-library ('Error
updating the port settings'): Could not release interface 0 (Invalid
argument).

*** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('Error updating the port
settings'): Could not release interface 0 (Invalid argument).
*** Error (-37: 'Error updating the port settings') ***

I have found a similar error at the KDE bug site, Bug 153716: "Digikam does not
work with Olympus C-170 CAMEDIA camera", but I am not using Digikam. The
diagnostic above suggests a gphoto2 problem.

Bug#454397: Klamav wrong version - bug #416619

2007-12-04 Thread Andy
Package: klamav
 Version: 0.38-1.1

I am seeing the error reported in bug #416619.

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=102171 shows that this
is the wrong version for clamav 0.90x, it should be 0.41.1.

A report in Ubuntuforums identifies such a mismatch as the cause of the error.

(reportbug fell in a heap trying to send this, so I am doing it manually)
