2014-01-17 Thread Wolfgang Silbermayr
Dear Paolo,

I have done some packaging work adapting the 2.4 package from ubuntu and
making it work with the version 3.1 of gcovr.

I have it inside a git-buildpackage repo on
https://github.com/silwol/gcovr

Please let me know if there is any further work to be done on the package.

Regards,
Wolfgang.

Hi Jan-Pascal,

The package you've prepared looks really good overall, good job! Just
a few nitpicks:

Must-haves:

debian/copyright:

don't ship the embedded font files, if they're in the source tarball,
they need to be acknowledged in debian/copyright)
 - your "License: Apache-2" standalone section is incomplete; you
should include the text of Apache 2.0's Appendix (i.e. the license

Hi Jose,

I just wanted to say that the changes look ok; I was going to upload
it, but for some reason my latest uploads seem to have vanished into
thin air. I've tried both ftp, and ssh via ssh.upload.debian.org, but
I don't get any acknowledgement back, which is weird, because I was
able to successfully upload another package just a few hours ago...

Anyways, tagging confirmed just to remind myself to check back on this later.

Hello,

Thanks for adding an autopkgtest! However, it currently fails [1]:

Attached debdiff fixes that and also makes the test stricter/more
useful by only depending on the -dev package (see changelog).

Thanks for considering,

Bug#727708: init system thoughts

Riffing off this more than replying to it.

I tend to think dependencies and events are both useful ways of
describing when to start up parts of the system. In particular, it
seems like:

 - when a network is connected, start web server
 - when a usb disk is connected, mount it
 - when a VPN is started, sync various things

are best described by an "event" model, while:

 - in order to run GNOME, logind must be started
 - in order to run logind, dbus must be available
 - as part of making the system ready for a user, network-manager
should be running

make the most sense when described by "dependencies". In particular,
in many of those cases, the reverse might not be true: For debugging,
I might want to start the web server manually without connecting the
network; or I might want logind running without GNOME, or
network-manager running without the other parts of my desktop
environment.

Events and dependencies aren't that different; an event essentially
lets a service X say that:

  whenever Y happens, X happens
whenever Y happens, X stops happening

while a (systemd'ish) dependency says either:

  when X happens, Y happens as well[X Requires: Y]
  before X happens, Y happens as well [X Requires: Y, After: Y]
  after X happens, Y happens as well [X Requires: Y, Before: Y]

(with Wants and Requisite and Overridable variants as well; also
RequiredBy and WantedBy variants)

If you look at "Y", there are a few phases it could go through:

no-Y
Y-starts-starting
Y-started
Y-begins-ending
no-Y

If you wanted to emulate upstart events with dependencies, you'd need
to do four things, I think:

* create a dummy "Y-started-event" unit ["network-is-available",
"usb-is-available"]
* invoke "systemctl start Y-started-event" when Y is finished starting
* invoke "systemctl stop Y-started-event" when Y begins ending
* add "RequiredBy: Y-started-event" and "PartOf: Y-started-event"
to X's unit file

That seems reasonably straight forward to me? If the event is
something systemd already knows about, you might only need to do
something equivalent to the last step. I don't think invoking
systemctl start/stop is any better or worse than whatever would be
needed to notify upstart of the same events.

To emulate systemd dependencies in an event model (ie, X depends on
Y), you'd need to do either:

* change Y's job to say "start on starting X"
* add "stop on stopping Y" to X's job description

or

* add a pre-start script to X in order to start Y first
* add "stop on stopping Y" to X's job description

The latter looks like it's the documented way of doing things. Neither
of those seem particularly great -- I think that's due to upstart not
letting you reverse event descriptions in the same way that systemd
has Requires/RequiredBy statements. If you could say:

   * on starting start Y
   * stop on stopping Y

in X's job description, by contrast, I think that would be a fine way
of declaring a "dependency" from X to Y without leaving the "event"
model. Not having a simple way of specifying this sort of dependency
seems pretty weak on upstart's behalf.

It would probably also be nice to have a way of saying "when a new
network comes up, reload/refresh service X" -- so that it could bind
to new ports or whatever even if it was already running; that seems
like the sort of thing that would be easier to specify in an event
model ("on new-network-interface-started reload or start"), than in a
dependency model.

Cheers,
aj

The greeter doesn't set anything, it gets the menu selection and gives
it to lightdm.

Well, this one is a problem, it's should not be the case (and it's not
the case for me on any of my box).

Indeed, I missed that.

My guess is that they get used by GNOME applications.

If you look really really hard, you'll see that LANG is set on the
previous line.

Since lightdm set GDM_LANG to the exact same value as LANG, I fail to
see why it's not set to the correct value at the beginning of
/etc/X11/Xsession, but at least that gives you something to look at.

Package: ironruby-utils
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The package ironruby-utils is currently depending on rubygems1.8. However,
this package will soon be removed from the archive because it was only
needed by ruby1.8, which is now obsolete (and will also be removed).

http://bugs.debian.org/735576

Also librack-ruby1.8 has been since wheezy a transitional package.
Please depend on ruby-rack instead.

to find the fault please?

I have run multiple memtest and it passes I have run burin in test in windows
it passes, I have ran Sandra test & diagnostics and it passes while monitoring
voltages and system temperatures it is all stable.

However, the server works for a few weeks, couple of months and it starts
getting issues like reboots, freezing up and basically becomes unstable. We
have changed mainboards, all ram modules, tested the PSU but the issue still
remains.

Could you please state your affiliation with Debian and the real work
you have done on Linux within Debian?

All I have seen and can find from you is the flaming in the lists. So I
suggest that unless you do a work within Debian you should not voice
your opinions for other Debian Developers. E.g. speak about yourself and
not about "people". You are not the voice of the people and definitely
not a voice of Debian people. Preferably just refrain from adding more
of *your* opinions into this bug report.

Thanks for spotting this. An earlier version if the upstream package
shipped
non-free font files, which I had removed from the dfsg source. Looking
at
the license file in images/ttf/liberation-sans/License.txt, it looks
like these,
too, may need to be considered non-free, since it contains export
control
limitations in section 3. (these are not present in the copyright text
of the
Debian ttf-liberation font package). I can either move the license text
to
debian/copyright (including the export control limitations), or
completely
remove the font files from the dfsg source package. Which would you
advise?

 - your "License: Apache-2" standalone section is incomplete; you

Wouldn't depending on libapache2-mod-php5 | php5 cause apt-get to allow

What other alternatives does the security team consider viable? My
understanding is that spidermonkey has the same duration of support as
the ESR release it was based on, so that's ~1 year. But unlike
FF/Chromium, which we can continue pulling in new upstream releases to
maintain security support during the lifecycle of a release, I'm not
sure if that's doable with spidermonkey given all of the reverse
dependencies that it has. And it would likely be an unsustainable
burden on the security team and/or individual maintainers to backport
changes to their packages in stable to make them work with newer
spidermonkey releases, each time a new ESR release comes out and
uploaded to stable.

If no (standalone) spidermonkey copies were allowed into the archive,
I suppose individual packages that depend on it would have to use an
embedded copy instead...that's not ideal either.

0ad upstream is already working (and making good progress) on
migrating to ESR 24, and should be done in time for their next
release. I can't speak on behalf of all the other packages that depend
on spidermonkey currently though.

Vincent

Hmm. It looks like forcing size-based rotation may be broken.

I'll investigate.

Bug#720545: bash: Please consider removing privmode.diff

2014-01-17 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hello Matthias,

I'm contacting you about #720545 (about the privileges dropping in
bash).

Did you had the time to think about removing the patch that was
introduced years ago (in 1999)?

I think that if this we want this patch to be dropped for Jessie, we
shouldn't do it too late in the development cycle in case it's causing
side-effects to other packages. But Debian and its derivatives are the
only distributions with this behavior, so I'm somewhat confident that
all the other software have been adapted and that we shouldn't have too
much surprises.

It would be nice if we could have your input on this.

Kind regards

Laurent Bigonville

Ah, I hadn't noticed that the license file in that directory doesn't
contain the same terms as the ttf/fonts-liberation packages. I suppose
it's probably safer just to remove the those fonts then, especially
since you're already repackaging the source tarball anyways.

Unfortunately getting a sponsor through
mentors.d.n/sponsorship-requests can take quite some time. I've made
it a goal of mine to take a look at some RFS bugs on a regular basis;
I know firsthand how hard it was at times to get a sponsor pre-DM/DD.

Bug#718444: ruby1.8 won't be available on Jessie

2014-01-17 Thread Antonio Terceiro
Dear maintainer,

Your package still uses ruby1.8, which is unmaintainable at this point. We
can't keep ruby1.8 around for Jessie. We plan to request its removal in 4
weeks.

Recommendations for some common cases:

If your package contains Ruby programs that are hardcoded to use
ruby1.8, you need to port those to a more recent version. Please use
/usr/bin/ruby instead. Please do not change to /usr/bin/ruby1.9.1

If your package calls `ruby1.8` during build, please make it call
`ruby` instead. If your scripts don't work with a newer Ruby, you need
to port them. Please do not change `ruby1.8` to `ruby1.9.1` as it
will require more work later when we want to get rid of ruby1.9.1 (and
we will).

If your packages builds binary extensions for ruby1.8, you need to
remove those. Please consider building binary extensions for all
supported Ruby versions. You can get a list of supported Ruby versions
at runtime by build-depending on gem2deb and running

  $ dh_ruby --print-supported

I'm flagging this bug as release critical, since it's impossible to
have ruby1.8 in the next release.

If you need advice on the best way to handle your package, please feel
free to get in touch with debian-r...@lists.debian.org

Bug#735664: openssh-client: ssh-agent gets duplicate keys, breaks ssh-add

2014-01-17 Thread Francois Gouget
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:6.4p1-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

This bug seems to arise from an interaction between gnome-keyring-agent,
ssh-agent and ssh-add.

When I log in my ssh key is automatically added to ssh-agent, by
gnome-keyring-agent as far as I understand, but obviously still requires me to
enter the password in order to be used.

I have a script that runs for some time and then uses ssh thus asking for the
key's passphrase. So I would normally prefill the passphrase with ssh-add like
so but all this does is add a duplicate entry for the ssh key which does not
get used by ssh:

$ ssh-add -l
1024 65:d0:25:dd:dc:39:19:08:75:cf:d3:34:1c:da:2b:1b fgouget@debian (DSA)
$ ssh-add
Enter passphrase for /home/fgouget/.ssh/id_dsa:

I would instead expect one of the following:
 * Either there's no fgouget@debian entry in ssh-agent and then a simple call
to ssh-add should add one entry that should then be used by all processes
needing that key.
 * Or if the fgouget@debian entry is really meant to be there, then there
should be a way to prefill its password using ssh-add. Currently this appears
to be impossible, meaning ssh-add is essentially broken.

Bug#734193: Please mount selinuxfs as read-only

2014-01-17 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Hi,

As explained in #734454 (which is different but somewhat related), the
selinuxfs on the chroot should probably be mounted as readonly so the
userspace in the chroot would think that selinux is disabled.

The proper way to set the fs read-only without interfering with the
selinuxfs from the host is to bind mount it from the host and then set
it as ro like this:

mount --bind /sys/fs/selinux /var/chroot/sys/fs/selinux
mount -o remount,ro,bind /var/chroot/sys/fs/selinux

Cheers,

Laurent Bigonville

That's quite easily circumvented in the trigger code by maintaining a
list of timestamps for the various apparmor.d/* files, as is done for
cups:

http://sources.debian.net/src/cups/1.7.1-2/debian/cups.postinst#L181

Then the trigger can reload only the concerned profiles, and never do it
for all of them. (Using the dpkg hashsums instead of timestamps would
allow doing it only for _changed_ profiles too.)

I'll try implementing something along those lines this week-end.

Cheers,
OdyX

Dear Maintainer,

Your package build-depends on rubygems and/or rubygem1.8. Those packages

include rubygems.
The source package rubygems is going to be removed from the archive in a
couple of weeks. Please update your dependencies to get rid of them.

One thing that would have helped here is if you could have supplied
some text explaining what "nodev" is. (Or, if you don't know, then it
would help to explicitly note that in the bug.)

I believe the appropriate text would be something like

[[
If the work "nodev" appears before a filesystem name, then that
filesystem does not require a corresponding device in order to be
mounted (i.e., it is a pseudo-filesystem).
]]

Look okay to you?

Cheers,

Michael

> (are they all big-endian architectures?):
powerpc, mips, s390x, sparc are indeed big-endian.
debian's ia64 port AFAIK uses little-endian mode.

Besides the potential endianness issues, there is a bug hidden in the depths
of PDL.
To summarize [1]:

In a couple of locations within the core, there is an assumption that
"double" is the largest datatype and some return values are casted/converted
to "double". "long long int" is indeed longer than the mantissa of a
"double", so when the conversion happens and the value of the longlong is
large, the least significant bits are lost.
The address space layout on ia64 leads to large pointer addresses, leading to
segfaults during the test suite run.
In some sense, it is just by luck that the same does not happen to pointers
on other 64bit architectures.
And, as PDL is a language used in the context of numerical computation (think
of it like MatLab/NumPy for perl), this implicit precision loss may also
affect real calculations performed with it.

Hi Johan,

Your package mostly looks good, but in debian/changelog you claim that
you've fixed #727409 by running autoreconf, but that's not the case.
In addition to adding a build-dep on dh-autoreconf, you also need the
following in debian/rules:

%:
dh $@ --with autoreconf

While you're at it, don't forget to bump standards version to 3.9.5.

Bug#734371: lsb.pl not accessible?

2014-01-17 Thread heroxbd
Dear Klaus,

Thank you for trying OpenRC out on Debian and sorry for the trouble.

The bug is strange and I could not reproduce it on a box of single /.

lsb.pl is used to convert from LSB init scripts to a set of shell
declarations that OpenRC could understand, which is crucial in the
second earliest boot stage of OpenRC.

The error message indicates that lsb.pl is not accessible from
/lib/rc/sh/gendepends.sh. Could you please paste the output of `dpkg
-L openrc`, especially the location of lsb.pl?

BTW, before the reboot, did openrc install well? If so, it has
"rc-update -u" executed in postinst, which calls lsb.pl without a
problem. I suspect /lib/rc/bin/lsb.pl is not yet mounted during early
boot. But given /lib/rc/sh/gendepends.sh, at least /lib/rc is mounted.
the source of the bug is out of my imagination now..

BTW++, the version 0.12.4+20131230-4 will soon be in the mirrors.

Cheers,
Benda

I agree that this is a problem, but I'm not sure whether it's a
reasonable
expectation for ipv4-only software to work with this option being
set;
the manpage for resolv.conf does mention that breakage is to be
expected.

A more pragmatic solution might be to use IO::Socket::IP instead.

I see now that IO::Socket::INET is only intended for IPv4; I hadn't
realised that. This problem showed up because the
/usr/share/popularity-contest/popcon-upload script in popularity-contest
makes use of IO::Socket::INET. Perhaps this bug could be reassigned to
the popularity-contest package so that it can be changed to use
IO::Socket::IP instead?

if not even with 2.0 since a branch called ruby2 has been merged 5

Bug#735670: lightdm ask ldap administrator password when changing a password expired

2014-01-17 Thread Gabriele Pulzato
Package: lightdm
Version: 1.2.2-4
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
I have a working authentication configuration with ldap on my debian
wheezy workstation. Everything works fine except with lightdm when a
ldap user have to change his password due to expiration. The user is
able to login but in the next prompt, in place of asking new password,
the ldap administrator password is asked. I've seen i have the same
behaviour when i try to change a ldap user password via passwd as
root.
My nslcd configuration doesn't allow local root user to behave like
ldap administrator.
I've tried with gdm3 greeter and it works; it asks for new password
and it allows to change the password properly.
I've seen this different behaviour in auth.log:

with gdm3:

debian gdm3][10414]: pam_ldap(gdm3:auth): nslcd authentication; user=test
debian gdm3][10414]: pam_ldap(gdm3:auth): authentication succeeded

debian gdm3][10414]: pam_unix(gdm3:chauthtok): user "test" does not
exist in /etc/passwd

with lightdm:

debian lightdm: pam_ldap(lightdm:auth): nslcd authentication; user=test
debian lightdm: pam_ldap(lightdm:auth): authentication succeeded
debian lightdm: pam_unix(lightdm:account): expired password for user
test (password aged)
debian lightdm: pam_unix(lightdm:chauthtok): username [test] obtained
debian lightdm: pam_unix(lightdm:chauthtok): user "test" does not
exist in /etc/passwd
debian lightdm: pam_ldap(lightdm:chauthtok): nslcd authentication; user=
debian lightdm: pam_ldap(lightdm:chauthtok): user not handled by nslcd

As you can see nslcd authentication have user value set in gdm3.
Lightdm have a blank value instead.

I've tried with lightdm-gtk-greeter and lightdm-crowd-greeter just to
check if it was a greeter problem but the problem remains with both.

piuparts has /sbin/policy.rc.d in place with the content of "exit 0", IOW, it
does not execute init scripts at all. Running, monitoring and killing
arbitrary daemons is not trivial.

Help and patches welcome! :-)

Bug#726763: Bug#735628: gdm3: Does not restart system when clicking {Restart}

  System restarting

currently in Debian/testing GDM does not restart the system after clicking
{Restart}.

This is due to a missing dependency on systemd-shim | systemd-sysv, see [1].
So you can either install systemd-shim or switch your init system to
systemd, which can be achieved by installing systemd-sysv or adding
the boot parameter 'init=/bin/systemd'.

The root password is asked thou, but no action is taken afterwards.

The strange asking for a root password is tracked in Bug#731882 [2].

Thank you for your efforts.

Thanks for reporting bugs.

Best regards,
Andreas

Bug#719396: no longer blocked by #720816

2014-01-17 Thread Rebecca N. Palmer

Control: merge -1 718385

openscenegraph is now installable again, still with an ~rc version.

Note that this assumes that release candidates are sufficiently
compatible with the corresponding final versions.
They have different sonames (libopenscenegraph99/100 in the present
case), but this *appears* to be a standard "this is not the final
release" notice rather than a real API break.

Note however that the libopenscenegraph-dev package no longer contains
static libraries at all since 3.2.0~rc1-1, so if that's what -static in
the package name means, that part will have to go altogether.

I had some idea, but was unsure and looked into the man-page to read
more about it.

I didn't expect that this needs explicit mentioning.

Doesn't clash with what I guessed, but since I was looking for facts,
I can't say if it's correct or wrong.

Bug#734371: lsb.pl not accessible?

Hi Benda,

thanks for your answer.

I would like to see a working init (and rc) system in future debian as
an alternative to the broken design of upstart and systemd. So I have a
high interest in this package.

> The bug is strange and I could not reproduce it on a box of single /.

Well, I have no single /, I did try it on my laptop where I have the
following disk layout:
   /dev/rootxfs ... /
   devtmpfs devtmpfs ... /dev
   tmpfstmpfs ... /run
   tmpfstmpfs ... /run/lock
   tmpfstmpfs ... /run/shm
   /dev/mapper/crypt0 btrfs ... /home
   /dev/mapper/sysvg-lv_usr btrfs ... /usr
   /dev/mapper/sysvg-lv_var btrfs ... /var
   tmpfstmpfs ... /tmp
   tmpfstmpfs ... /media
   none tmpfs ... /sys/fs/cgroup

So you can see that my /usr is separated from /. Moreover I do not use
initrd than booting direct in my kernel. (I have only little machines
booting with the normal debian kernel. Most have a optimized kernel for
the system without initrd.)

Hmm...

I'll try to build a test kvm to do this. As you might expect, I will be
a bit more cautiously with my running laptop. :-)

> BTW, before the reboot, did openrc install well?

I looked as it was. I was warned by Axel that there could be some
problems so I did check.

As you can see above, /lib is not separated (and I do not know how it
could work with a separated /lib). But maybe openrc expects to run from
initrd?

Indeed. Early on in my original development of piuparts I realised
that testing, in a chroot, code that starts arbitrary daemons is a bad
idea in oh so many ways. I haven't followed piuparts development in
recent years, so I don't know if it still uses chroot, but unless it's
started using containers or virtual machines, it should continue to
NOT allow init.d scripts to run. At all.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the attached text file with nvi
2. Set tabstop to a large number. For example, :set tabstop=1000
3. Scroll forward by control-f
4. Scroll backward by control-b

The attached patch fixed the segmentation fault. But I don't know if
this is proper fix.

Hi,

Err, "Multi-Arch: off" isn't valid. I'm going to assume that was a
silly typo and what you really meant was "Multi-Arch: same", but in
case you're not quite sure, I recommend referring to the Debian wiki
[1].

Don't forget to test your package by building it in a clean chroot
(e.g. pbuilder/cowbuilder/sbuild, etc.)!

I guess the problem lies in the pam configuration files. You might want
to diff them and adjust the lightdm one. It might also help to check
with lightdm from testing or unstable.

You'd want Breaks: gnome-shell (<= 3.8) instead.

Perhaps this should be included as part of the gnome-shell-extensions
package instead? There's also the fact that gnome-shell extensions
often break between each major release; if the upstream developer(s)
for your package don't keep their extension updated, this package
might not last very long in Debian.

Bug#735525: [pkg-wine-party] Bug#735525: libwine: many dependancies for libwine missing

2014-01-17 Thread Andreas
Thank you for that information. Every normal desktop installation
features a lot of the needed libraries like cups or sane wich will satisfy
the wine dependancies. But 64 bit users, were wine often is the only
32 bit application, need these dependancies. I strongly suggest that there
should be a way to provide these dependancies to get a fully functioning
wine installation.

I would suggest to create one meta package like wine-all-dependancies
to satisfy all dependancies or single packages just like the old ones for
example libwine-print, etc., wich at least can install the dependancies
for libraries like cups etc.
Kind regards,
Andreas

Bug#734371: perl is inside /usr/bin

2014-01-17 Thread heroxbd
Dear Klaus,

I figured out the cause: perl, by which lsb.pl is written, is inside
/usr.

Roger has expressed this concern before. I did not take it seriously at
that time. Now it bites us..

We should rewrite lsb.pl with POSIX shell or even C, or rely on
functions from insserv (which has a LSB parser) to get rid of this extra
dependency on perl. @Roger, is it easy to borrow the LSB parser from
insserv?

For the moment, you could have an ugly hack to copy a subsystem of perl
over /.

Great, I have exactly the same motivation.

You could express that as an event because GNOME and logind communicate
with logind and dbus (respectively) through IPC. So you can say "when GNOME
tries to use logind's dbus interface, start logind", or you can say "when
//anything// tries to use logind's dbus interface, start logind" and have
that done for. Same for starting dbus, just change a dbus interface to
dbus's port.

With the above method, this problem is avoided because GNOME does not start
when logind starts, it just starts whenever the runlevel is right and then
logind is started automatically. So if GNOME is stopped/waiting, you can
start logind without GNOME starting.

The attached control file is not the more recent one, I am attaching
the latest one which includes also the fix suggested by "victory"
about using the UAC acronym once it was defined.

The misunderstanding is my fault:
1. In a previous message I attached the changelog instead of
   the control file
2. when Justin pointed that to me he also told that the patch
   was OK
3. I thought that the patch was enough and that I didn't have
   to resend the control file
4. I then overlooked the control file in the LCFC message.

Sorry, next time I'll be more careful.

Can we put the translation of the templates on hold?
If debian-legal tells that the question about the EULA is not needed
(and hence the templates can be dropped) we can save some time to
translators.

According to http://linux.die.net/man/3/pam_chauthtok, not passing
PAM_CHANGE_EXPIRED_AUTHTOK flag just means that all authentications
tokens should be changed, so I'm unsure how it's supposed to fix the
problem.

In any case, I'll ask upstream about that.

Bug#734371: Problem is that perl isn't available

2014-01-17 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

Your problem is that, when lsb.pl starts, it needs /usr/bin/perl. So we
have no choice here, but to re-write lsb.pl completely in another
language. Our options would be:

1/ POSIX shell
2/ C (with possibilities to steal the LSB parser from insserv)

We'll work on it, it shouldn't be that hard, the lsb.pl script is quite
small. Help would of course be welcome.

Cheers,

Bug#727708: OpenRC now works on GNU/Hurd! :)

2014-01-17 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

It's with great joy that I can announce here that OpenRC now supports
GNU/Hurd. I have just added a few patches which were worked out with
upstream (you can look at them, it's really trival FTBFS fixing...),
tested it, and I can happily say it works.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the ANSI output isn't so
pretty, but I guess this is fixable and a minor problem.

On the Thu, 16 Jan 2014 17:18:24 +0100, Josselin Mouette
 wrote:
> This assumes that OpenRC can be fixed to have parallel boot, otherwise
> this is a big regression from the current insserv setup.

This is just plain wrong, OpenRC perfectly supports parallel booting,
it's just that the output on the screen is very ugly for the moment
(that as well can be fixed, I suppose).

Also, I'd like to point out to everyone that the OpenRC runscripts are
stored in /etc/init.d. This means that if someone wants to support
OpenRC and use a runscript instead of a traditional init.d shell script,
that someone will also have to support whatever we will choose as
default. Let me explain to make sure everyone gets it...

Let's say you rewrite /etc/init.d/foo, and transform it from a init.d
traditional sysv-rc script to an OpenRC runscript in your package. If
the init system is systemd, then systemd will *not* understand the
OpenRC runscript. This means that you will also have to write a systemd
unit file, if you want to write /etc/init.d/foo as an OpenRC runscript.
The same would of course apply to Upstart.

Though I think that writing a systemd unit file, plus an OpenRC
runscript, is still more easy and strait forward than writing a single
init.d sysv-rc shell script.

So, if we are to switch to systemd as default (same would apply if we
choose Upstart), IMO the policy should be that package maintainers have
2 choices:

1/ Write a standard LSB-header SysV-rc init script, which will of course
work with any init system (sysv-rc, OpenRC, systemd, Upstart, file-rc...)

2/ If the /etc/init.d/foo is an OpenRC runscript (which we should, IMO,
push for since traditional scripts have some many problems which I can't
even lest in this mail, and we all agree about that), then the package
maintainer *must* provide support for systemd (or upstart, if we choose
that as default).

IMO, the above would be the best way forward for Debian if we want to
continue to support our ports.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo)

It seems obvious to me that if multiple ones are supported that there
has to be some way to get from using one to using a different one. So
the question is more one of how difficult it is.

Parallel booting also breaks output with sysv-rc.

Bug#734723: uucp: diff for NMU version 1.07-20.1

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for uucp (versioned as 1.07-20.1) and uploaded it

I haven't touched your package in experimental; but the same patch will
apply to that, and I recommend you apply it.

I like perl and think that it is great and safe for system
administration. But in this case I also think it should be plain POSIX
shell script. Even if that mean to be very carefully with variables and
its content.

I don't think that this work. You have to have all dependencies
(libraries and perl modules) also ported to /. And that would be a big
job.

Bug#722494: cqrlog: CQRLOG incorrectly forces installation of mysql-server

2014-01-17 Thread Colin Tuckley

Patrick,

I've talked to the upstream author (who wrote the original package)
about this. He is concerned that users installing cqrlog who are Radio
Hams rather than computer geeks might not be able to get cqrlog working.

If cqrlog depends only on mysql-client and no part of mysql is installed
on the system when cqrlog is installed what will happen when cqrlog is
run the first time?

Bug#735585: sisu: please do not depend on rubygems and depend on ruby | ruby-interpreter

2014-01-17 Thread Cédric Boutillier
Package: sisu

Dear Maintainer,

The changes to make it run with the default interpreter (ruby1.9.1 is
going away at some point before jessie) are a bit larger than the ones I
mentionned in my previous patch.

Please find attached a debdiff fixing this issue.

Unless you say otherwise, I consider sending an NMU next week to

Thanks!

It is actually fairly easy to write an initscript which uses native
OpenRC facilities if they're available. While this serves little
practical use, I tried to play with this, and this is the result:

http://sources.debian.net/src/twms/0.05t-2/debian/init

This lacks OpenRC's depends() function, but has LSB headers instead,
so otherwise it works fine.

 Hmm.

I cannot find Asana-math font in openfontlibrary.org which is specified
as upstream Homepage in debian/control. As Fedora page(*) says it was moved
from CTAN to oflb but now it seems to be maintained in CTAN(*).

*) http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/Asana-Math/

Probably we should take it from CTAN to upgrade.
 Then, question to the team.

 Q) Do we continue to provide it as fonts-"oflb"-asana-math or switch
to simply fonts-asana-math?

+ how do we check its version? CTAN mirror just provide one zip file
   without any versions...

Bug#725702: wide-dhcpv6-client: fails to upgrade/install properly

2014-01-17 Thread Vincent van Leeuwen
Hi Jeremie,

Sorry for not responding to your request for more information for so long. I
had downgraded to 20080615-11.1 which still works correctly. Retrying the
upgrade means losing IPv6 connectivity again which is inconvenient ;)

To answer your question, I was already running testing. I dist-upgrade
manually every so often to pull in newer versions and this time an upgrade for
wide-dhcpv6-client from 20080615-11.1 to 20080615-12 came along. Doing an
upgrade for only wide-dhcpv6-client again gives the same behaviour.

This is the debug output after upgrading to 20080615-12 again:

# /usr/sbin/dhcp6c -c /etc/wide-dhcpv6/dhcp6c.conf -P default -d -D -f vlan2
Jan/03/2014 16:21:30: get_duid: extracted an existing DUID from
/var/lib/dhcpv6/dhcp6c_duid: 00:01:00:01:18:dc:f8:d5:00:e0:81:5d:b8:63
Jan/03/2014 16:21:30: client6_init: setsockopt(SO_REUSEPORT): Protocol not
available

And then it immediately exits.

If you want me to run any other tests or need more information about my
environment don't hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

Vincent van Leeuwen

Bug#735670: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#735670: lightdm ask ldap administrator password when changing a password expired

2014-01-17 Thread Giulio Turetta
Hi,

I've posted more info about this issue on launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1270118

> Because lightdm calls pam_chauthtok after a positive check on
> PAM_NEW_AUTHTOK_REQD (from man page "The user account is valid but their
> authentication token is expired") it should pass the
> PAM_CHANGE_EXPIRED_AUTHTOK flag (from man page "This argument indicates to
> the modules that the users authentication token (password) should only be

> gdm3 uses the flag correctly (Wheezy gdm-session-worker.c:1291).

I've solved on Wheezy by

1) download lightdm debian source package: apt-get source lightdm
2) go to the source folder lightdm-1.2.2/src and edit session-child.c as
suggested
3) step-back to the lightdm-1.2.2 folder and run dpkg-buildpackage
-rfakeroot -uc -b (dpkg-buildpackage may require some packages to
proceed, it lists the required packages, install these with apt-get
install )

Bug#735680: ocsinventory-agent misses installed packages in its reported list

2014-01-17 Thread Matthias Wieser
Package: ocsinventory-agent
Version: 2:1.1.1-2.3
Severity: important

This file does not handle dpkg output not correctly:
/usr/share/perl5/Ocsinventory/Agent/Backend/OS/Generic/Packaging/Deb.pm

The following output(package information) gets lost:
$lgtoclnt---$8.0.1.1---$---$NetWorker Client
EMC NetWorker protects the critical business data of more than 10,000
enterprise customers worldwide by simplifying, centralizing, and automating
backup and recovery operations across Unix, Windows, Linux and NetWare
 platforms
in DAS, NAS, and SAN storage environments. Built upon an open, highly
 scalable
client-server architecture, NetWorker reduces management overhead by
 providing
"lights out" protection of storage assets in the largest corporate data
 centers
and the smallest satellite branch offices.

The package has no size reported.

The following change in the
/usr/share/perl5/Ocsinventory/Agent/Backend/OS/Generic/Packaging/Deb.pm
will work but add other problems (no size does not get detected):

- foreach(`dpkg-query --show
--showformat='\${Package}---\${Version}---\${Installed-Size}---\${Description}\n'`)
 {
+ foreach(`dpkg-query --show
--showformat='\${Package}---\${Version}---0\${Installed-Size}---\${Description}\n'`)

Bug#727708: Spotify position in support of systemd in the default init debate

2014-01-17 Thread Noa Resare
Friends,

Spotify, an online streaming music service, is a significant user of Debian
GNU/Linux. We have some 5000 physical servers and well over a thousand
virtual servers using both public and private clouds running Debian
GNU/Linux serving millions of songs to our users every day.

We would like to take this opportunity to endorse systemd as our preferred
init system and we would like to see it as default on Debian GNU/Linux
moving forward.

Our main reasons for this preference:

- We believe that the dependency model of systemd is easier to understand,
explain and work with than the event based counterpart of upstart.

- We believe that the various features built on top of the way systemd uses
cgroups, notably mechanisms for resource limitations, would be very useful
in a highly scalable highly available environment such as ours.

- We believe that systemd will have the stronger community momentum moving
forward when it comes to seeing close integration between modern init
system features and upstream projects.

With kind regards
Spotify infrastructure and operations

yes. Upstream seems not to fix the problems. libgit-pure-perl doesn't have any

So yes, you can remove it.

Bug#735682: libgeo-distance-perl: error in SYNOPSIS

2014-01-17 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: libgeo-distance-perl
Version: 0.20-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

The reg_unit() call in Geo::Distance SYNOPSIS is wrong. Quoting:

 use Geo::Distance;
 my $geo = new Geo::Distance;
 $geo->formula('hsin');
 $geo->reg_unit( 'toad_hop', 200120 );

Consider:

% perl -MGeo::Distance -le 'my $g = Geo::Distance->new; $g->reg_unit(
"toad_hop", 200120 ); print $g->distance("toad_hop", (0,0), (1,1))'
Use of uninitialized value in multiplication (*) at
/usr/share/perl5/Geo/Distance.pm line 214.

The radius should come first and the name next in the reg_unit() call:

% perl -MGeo::Distance -le 'my $g = Geo::Distance->new; $g->reg_unit( 200120,
"toad_hop" ); print $g->distance("toad_hop", (0,0), (1,1))'

The rest of the documentation seems to be correct. Proposed patch attached.

Bug#735684: dh-acc: Abi dumps are way too large to be included in the debian directory

2014-01-17 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Package: dh-acc
Version: 1.99.8.5-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

I was planning to start using dh-acc in the KDE packages, but the abi dumps
needed to check anything are way too large. Just kdepimlibs generates 10MB of
the different abi.tar.gz.amd64, and that's just one arch. Also this binary files
would need to go in the git repository, which is, at least, bothersome.

It would be better, for our use case, if we could generate the abidumps for the
version declared in the acc files when running the tests.

Bug#735685: RFS: libnftables/0.0.0~20131209-1 [ITP]

2014-01-17 Thread Arturo Borrero Gonzalez
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "libnftables"

* Package name: libnftables
  Version : 0.0.0~20131209-1
Upstream Author : Pableo Neira Ayuso
* URL : http://netfilter.org/projects/nftables/index.html
* License : GNU GPL v2
  Section : libs

It builds those binary packages:

 libnftables-dev - Development files for libnftables0
libnftables0 - Netfilter nftables userspace API library
 libnftables0-dbg - Debugging symbols for libnftables0

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

 http://mentors.debian.net/package/libnftables

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

 dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/libn/libnftables/libnftables_0.0.0~20131209-1.dsc

Please, note that this is a snapshot version, previous to the official release
of the first version of libnftables.

libnftables will be a dependency of the next upstream release of the 'iptables'
tool.

The attached (trivial) patch fixes this problem for me, in the case of
converting debian packages to rpms with a slightly differently named
architecture. It should also work on other conversions, but this is
untested.
