Bug#720066: xul-ext-requestpolicy: no changes reflected in changelog.gz of the new version

2013-08-18 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: xul-ext-requestpolicy
Version: 0.5.27-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
First of all kudos for packaging and maintaining the sheer number of
add-ons for Mozilla. It's well appreciated by people like me.

On the bug itself while I'm filing this bug as normal, I do guess that
the above breaks Debian policy somewhere so it should be treated as
such (or at least the severity should be raised). I would guess that
the team which maintains this extension would look into the
appropriate handling of things.

The thing is I downloaded and installed this extension. I went to the
/usr/share/doc/xul-ext-requestpolicy to see what latest changes were
there and found that changes till 0.5.25 are only shared.

/usr/share/doc/xul-ext-requestpolicy$ zcat changelog.gz | head
Version 0.5.25 2012-27-02

Bug fixes:
* Requests to moz-filedata: and blob: were blocked. This caused
problems with, for example, pdf.js.

Extension compatibility:
* Dr. Web Link Checker's popup window had blocked content that
couldn't be easily whitelisted.

More info:

whereas if you go to the add-on page and look in the version info. you
do get that much more info.

May I suggest to merge this with #689858 as these seem quite similar to me.

Would be great to have maintainer feedback in each of these anyway...

Hth,

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll go for the simpler first approach this

All three packages depend on mencoder, which has been deprecated and is
essentially unmaintained by upstream for years. As I do have strong
concerns that mencoder makes it for jessie release, I would suggest to
remove mencoder, and all depending packages such as devede, photofilmstrip
or toonloop, for now until some solution is found in order to speed up the
libav9 transition.

Bug#719987: Unable to dlopen libsss_sudo.so (wrong search path)

Hi Bdale,

On 17.8.2013 15:32, Bdale Garbee wrote:

thanks for your quick response and sorry for reopening this issue again.

The way you've set the path to libsss_sudo is by replacing --with-sssd
by --with-sssd-lib=/usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH).

However, removing --with-sssd from configure arguments caused sssd support
to be now disabled completely, as can be seen by comparing
the build logs [1][2] -- plugins/sudoers/sssd.c is not compiled in the latter
case.

Apparently we have to have both --with-sssd and --with-sssd-lib specified.
(I've checked that and everything works as expected then.)

Jakub

Hi,

please add a Breaks: glx-diversions (<< 0.4) to libgl1-mesa-glx to
ensure clean upgrades from MESA 8 to MESA 9 if the proprietary drivers
are being used. MESA 9 ships libGL.so.1.2.0 which needs to be diverted
by glx-diversions, too.

Patch will follow.

Bug#711122: digikam: Import from USB device: file permissions different on landscape/portrait orientation

2013-08-18 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: digikam
Version: 4:2.6.0-1+b2
Followup-For: Bug #711122

This also happens when manually rotating JPEGs that are already on disk.
They get their permissions changed to 600 while umask is set to 0022.

I guess Digikam is creating a temporary copy that is then renamed. It
should adjust the file permissions after that to those of the original
file.

Bug#716799: Boot ending in a blank screen

2013-08-18 Thread Patrik Nilsson
This bug happened again and this time I was more prepared.

Some time ago I assigned "ctrl+alt+t" to run a terminal as in Ubuntu. I
pressed the keys to open a (invisible) terminal and then moved the mouse
cursor over the screen.

The mouse cursor changed shape when reaching the (invisible) edges of
the terminal window.

Then I clicked (still invisible) on my name (right top) and logged out.

At this point Gnome started to draw everything, as expected.

Then I could log in again and do my work.

(I have set auto login to my user account, when Debian starts.)

/Patrik

Sigh. The configure code appeared to set the enable when a lib path is
specified, but clearly I mis-read that code.

On my way home from Debconf , will fix as soon as I have net access again.

This is not supposed to work. You have to use either the init script
(via service) or /usr/sbin/apache2ctl. See
/usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian.gz for more information.

Bug#720071: ibus-anthy: typelib file does not multi-arch compatible

2013-08-18 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
Package: ibus-anthy
Version: 1.5.3-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

This is bug report for experimental package.

It seems that gobject-introspection does not (yet) support mulit-arch so you
must not install the typelib files into multi-arch paths but they must go into
/usr/lib/girepository-1.0/ instead [1].

$ dpkg -L ibus-anthy | grep typelib
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/girepository-1.0/Anthy-9000.typelib

A typical way to achieve this is to update ibus-anthy.install:

-usr/lib/*/girepository-1.0/*
+usr/lib/*/girepository-1.0/* usr/lib/girepository-1.0/

The other way is using --with-anthygobject-typelibsdir option in configure.

Since a typelib file is arch-dependent, you may need to remove the "Multi-Arch:
Same" control field in ibus-anthy package.

[1] /usr/share/doc/gobject-introspection/policy.txt in gobject-introspection

Best regards,

I've been thinking about this, and I think you might be trying to
solve the problem in the wrong place(s), and possibly there's a need
to step back and ponder about what do you really want out of all this,
to know where or how to best fix it.

The way I see it (and that I think you guys have maybe intermingled)
is that there's different types of changing information:

There's accidental changing information leaks, stuff like usernames,
hostnames, timezone, output or sorting order depending on locale, data
dependant on random input like signatures or similar, etc, which might
just need fixing anyway because they leak information from the builder,
or should ideally be generated on the installed system.

Then there's possibly redundant changing information, like _some_
timestamps on filenames, versions, or even metadata.

And then there's changing information that conveys important data.
For example, in the generated data.tar the files will contain
different modification times, some will come untouched from the source
files if they just get copied, and others will be newer if the files
got created at build time. Preserving these timestamps seems important
to me, because you then know the possible staleness of the files. The
timestamp on the ar member let's you know when the package got built.
Possible future ar members containing gpg signatures from the builder
or the archive, would change and not be reproducible anyway. The recent
switch of dpkg-deb default compressor. Or possible future .deb format
revisions. Etc.

So my question is, what's really the stuff you'd like to know has not
changed. Just file paths, contents and permissions for example. That
seems extremely reasonable w/o dropping possibly important information,
or getting us stuck in possibly old formats and similar. Would there
be something else?

Depending on that, maybe instead of dropping some of the information,
we might just need a way to for example easily compare .deb files,
ignoring unimportant changing data, ala «dpkg-deb --compare a.deb b.deb»
or something along those lines or some other new program.

Thanks,
Guillem

offered by Dell), and problem still persists :-(.

There is hyperlink "old" there, which gives fast access to logs of old builds.
It may be useful for someone.

Best wishes,

Bug#720072: nautilus: Mounted devices (with umask 0444) get disabled, unmountable.

2013-08-18 Thread ST
Package: nautilus
Version: 3.4.2-1+build1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Mounting usb stick with umask 0444, either through fstab or udisks.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?

e.g udisks --mount /dev/sdb4 --mount-options umask=0444
or just mount /dev/sdb4 if it's in fstab with the umask=0444 option

   * What was the outcome of this action?

While accessible and usable both through GUI(if navigating to
/media/LABEL) and command line, following happens:

1. The device icon (in the list of available devices in the left upper
corner of the Nautilus file manager window) disappeared.
2. It also does not show up in the list "Removable disks and shares" of
nautilus-sendto.
3. It is impossible to "unmount/eject" the device by pressing the eject
button in the list of mounted "Removable Devices" (bottom right corner in
Gnome).

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

Despite the fact that due to the umask=0444 content of the device
becomes not readable it is still writable and therefore I do expect, that:

1. The device icon together with the "eject" button remains in place.
2. It does show up in the list "Removable disks and shares" of
nautilus-sendto.
3. It should be possible to "unmount/eject" the device by pressing the
eject button in the list of mounted "Removable Devices" (bottom right corner in
Gnome).

Thank you.

Bug#720073: grub fails to install with root partition >~50GB

2013-08-18 Thread Robert Scott
Package: installation-reports
Version: Whatever version's on the currently available 7.1.0 netinst cd image
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

Hi,

When installing on a UEFI system (Lenovo Ideapad Z585), amd64, (installer
booted in UEFI mode, _I think_), installing grub fails with:

Executing grub-install dummy failed. This is a fatal error.

Extra information: The disk had a ~300M efiboot partition as the first
partition, and the root partition was in an encrypted LVM volume, EXT4, and was
60GB in size.

Looking at the log on VT4 finds it is giving me

/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: unknown filesystem.
Auto-detection of a filesystem of failed.
Try with --recheck.

After a lot of research this post
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1935765&p=11757198#post11757198
suggested there's a "known bug" in grub with "large" root partitions. So,
trying again, I used a 40GB root partition and lo and behold it worked.

I realize that this might be a "known bug" (perhaps with a fix), but I thought
it best to alert you that this "known bug" is shipping on your currently
available 7.1.0 netinst cd image and causing trouble (actually I used the
"unofficial" with-firmware image, but I'm assuming it's "in sync" with the
official 7.1.0 image as far as this is concerned).

The list of RC bugs that the BTS provides to britney for testing
migration is updated four times a day - at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00
UTC. You downgraded the bug at 20:00, so when britney ran at 22:00 UTC
she was unaware of the downgrading. The next britney run is in a few
minutes time at which point the bug will no longer be a blocker.

Yes, that's unfortunate.

"Yes, but". The link in question is in a section headed "Dependency
analysis (including build-depends; i386 only):". libcam-dev _does not
exist_ on i386:

libcam-dev | 9.1+ds1-3 |testing | kfreebsd-amd64, kfreebsd-i386

> So this page has broken links and incorrect information.

No. Some of the links don't work (they should be translated to source
packages) and some of the information is confusingly presented. The
information is /not/ incorrect.

Adam

Bug#720075: linux-image-3: Dell Vostro 3750 freezes when booted with USB3.0 port used

2013-08-18 Thread Wojciech Zabołotny
Package: linux-image-3.10.2
Version: 10:1.0.wzab
Severity: important
File: linux-image-3

Dear Maintainer,

When I start my Dell Vostro 3750 system with any device connected to one of
USB 3.0 capable ports, the system freezes.
The problem is triggered when during power-up or reboot of the system
the device is present at least before the BIOS asks for the power-up
password, so probably it is associated with initialization of the system by
BIOS. However Windows 7 boots on the system in such situations without any
problems.

The problem exists since linux-2.6 times, and it was reported for linux-2.6
kernel as bug number 644174, however as it is still present in 3.10.2 and
3.10.7 kernels, I suppose, that it should be re-reported for those packages.
The problem is also reported to bugzilla:

Bug#720077: gcompris: would be nice to have a NEWS.gz

2013-08-18 Thread shirish शिरीष
Package: gcompris
Version: 12.11-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,
It would be nice to have a NEWS.gz along-with the changelog.gz and
changelog.Debian.gz which are already there. The thing is while
changelog.gz give the raw diff and changelog.Debian.gz gives story of
rebuilds and things like that. In this what major changes occurred
from one version to the next are lost. Upstream does provide NEWS at
http://gcompris.net/-News- which could be used as NEWS.gz so people
like me do not have to go to the site every-time a new release
happens.

Looking forward to inclusion of NEWS.gz in the next release. And by
the way, you could think of joining the debian-games team which would
make maintenance a bit easier and you could work on more games or
educational toys there as well. Just a suggestion.

Bug#706330: Re: Some applications segfaults after upgrade to 3.8.0-1

2013-08-18 Thread Vlad Orlov

Hi,

> This patch is just temporary workaround and it is not
> included in the upstream version.

The upstream have thrown away a lot of code in [1], so the patch
wouldn't even work anymore, because it looks like the code responsible
for crashes was just removed with a lot of other stuff.

These changes were applied a year ago. I think it makes more sense to
upload a newer version (pre-release of 1.0.3 from trunk) than to apply
patches to the older (much older) one.

Hi.

Just for reference: are you sure that you didn't have apt or aptitude's
flag to download recommended packages by default?

What happens if you try to uninstall mplayer2?

Just so you know, mplayer2 *is* used, regardless of if it is a headless box
or not, to download videos with protocols other than http (in the same
fashion as rtmpdump).

In any case, *if* this is a bug, I don't really know if this is a bug with
my packaging of youtube-dl or with the dependency resolving tools of
installers.

Bug#720080: hamster-applet: New releases

2013-08-18 Thread Reuben Thomas
Package: hamster-applet
Version: 2.91.3+git20120514.b9fec3e1-1ubuntu1
Severity: wishlist

Project Hamster has made more recent releases, up to version 1.03 (I
guess this is GNOME-independent version numbering). The date of the
latest release is 13th May 2013, which is much more recent than the
current package (almost exactly a year earlier).

The applet is dead (instead, there’s a shell extension), and the
maintainer is seeking to retire, but will still make sure Hamster will
work, as he’s still using it; from a packaging point of view this
sounds like a good thing, as it’s likely that after transitioning to
the new Hamster there would be a period of calm.

It would be good to see this new version packaged, both to be up to
date and get some bug fixes, and to work better with GNOME 3.

Bug#720081: Install file trigger for /usr/share/initramfs-tools

2013-08-18 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: dracut
Version: 031-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

dracut uses a different approach then initramfs-tools and bundles most
of its functionality in dracut itself while initramfs-tools moves the
logic into the separate packages, like e.g. lvm2 or mdadm.

When I install dracut, dracut wants to install such packages (via
Recommends) and will then create an initramfs with support for those
tools.

If I decide to not install e.g. lvm2 when installing dracut, the
generated initramfs will not have proper lvm support.
And if I later install lvm2, the initramfs is not automatically
updated.

That's why I suggest to install a dpkg file trigger for
/usr/share/initramfs-tools and update the initramfs whenever a package
drops a initramfs-tools hook in there.

This obviously means, that for more exotic packages, which don't have
support in dracut, we will update the initramfs unnecessarily.
But imho that is less of an issue then *not* updating the initramfs when
an important package like mdadm or lvm2 is installed.

Michael

I build revision 150 a few weeks ago. While it builds and GTK-3 apps
start again, theming is totally broken. It doesn't seem like Unico will
work with GTK+ 3.8 anytime soon, so maybe deprecating it and removing it
from the archives is the best (cleanest) way.

Yeah, this is broken. The change you mention made git daemon rely on
the $REMOTE_ADDR envvar for logging in both --inetd mode and the
internal --serve mode. In --serve mode the parent process populates
$REMOTE_ADDR using the address from listen(). That was supposed to
work around getpeername(), which was previously used, not being
available on Windows, by passing the address from the parent and it
works fine.

The change in the --inetd case was not intentional. In --inetd mode
$REMOTE_ADDR is not being set, breaking logging (and breaking hooks
that might rely on REMOTE_ADDR).

How about something like this (untested)?

The client sent the file without specifying its mime type. The server
sorted out the type.

No first two lines as with the Wheezy client. The Jessie client has
informed the server about the mime type. This could be done with

Please examine the client for an lpoptions file in /etc/cups or ~/.cups
which contains "document-format". /etc/inetd.conf may be worth a look at
too.

Bug#720082: Regression: brightness controls no longer work on Lenovo B570 in 3.10

2013-08-18 Thread Eric
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.10.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
   * What led up to the situation?
Upgraded kernel from 3.9-1-amd64 and rebooted.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Tried to increase the brightness using the fn + arrow keys (which are the
brightness control keys).
   * What was the outcome of this action?
The brightness-changing indicator showed up on my desktop but the actual
brightness did not change.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That the screen brightness change.

Right, I also see the trouble in sbuild now. It kinda worked fine just
running the build manually, but even then, I noticed sometimes it
skipped the test stage.

Not sure why that is, I will investigate.

It may depend on the themes themselves. If the theme simply wasn't
updated for GTK+3.8, it may very well look ugly. What themes did you
test, and what was broken?

Bug#720083: reportbug: Gtk interface, when gathering system information, has prompts in the terminal causing hang

2013-08-18 Thread Eric
Package: reportbug
Version: 6.4.4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,
*** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
Reporting a bug in linux kernel.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Used Gtk interface when prompted to choose, went through most of the bug
reporting until it told me it was gathering system information.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
A prompt showed up in the terminal window asking whether it should collect
network settings. The gtk interface hanged until I noticed this and responded
to the terminal.
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That it would gather system information and make prompts in the GTk interface.

Bug#720084: linux-image-3.10-2-amd64: SD card reader RTS5139 does not detect cards unless reloaded with card in

2013-08-18 Thread Eric
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.10.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Was trying to use SD card reader.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Put SD card reader in SD card slot and tried to read SD card.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
dmesg did not indicate anything related to the card when I insert it, /dev/sdb
(the block file for the card reader) did not change (i.e. /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2,
etc. did not get added to /dev).
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
In Wheezy, /dev/sdb1, /dev/sdb2 would be added to /dev.

I checked the SD card with a different operating system on the same computer to
ensure that it was properly partitioned and the SD card reader hardware was
working.
I also tried compiling the kernel module from source and installing it myself,
but this would only allow me to read the card if it was already inserted when I
load/reload the module.

I'm aware of apt.postgresql.org and I've used them quite often, however
in this particular case it doesn't help due to non-technical reasons
(not my deployment, not my rules, sadly).

But that's my problem, not yours.

> Which patches exactly from 3.1.8 would you want to have applied to

At least the one that fixes the problem noted in this bug.

I believe pushing 3.1.8 as an upgrade would be way better. I don't know
what exactly does a "proposed update" for stable entail, but I've seen
it happen regularly with PostgreSQL packages: it's not just patches,
it's the latest upstream that's only bug-fixes.

If you need help packaging, I can lend a hand with that: I could build
the 3.1.8 package and you propose the update.

Thanks for your time.

Bug#716799: Boot ending incorrectly

2013-08-18 Thread Patrik Nilsson
The computer crashes more often on startup (init) when running on
battery. I have no exact statistics, but about one of three boots
running on battery does not start gnome in a correct way.

About one in ten startups running on external power will make boot
ending in an incorrect way.

In the beginning with the new computer I tested more often with battery.
This explains why I thought an update make it work more often. (It is
probably a changelog entry that I misinterpreted.)

Bug#718865: Update and minimize /etc/samba/smbldap-machineadd-gosa

2013-08-18 Thread Arne Sørli
When testing on a fresh install of
cd-wheezy-test-usbstick/debian-edu-amd64-i386-BD-1.iso,

joining the domain still does not work. (It works
in my beta0+patches described in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=718865).

This time I get the following error on the XP PC
when trying to join: "A device attached to the system is not functioning".

I also notice that when trying to browse \\TJENER
as described in chapter 1.1 in
https://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Wheezy/HowTo/Samba,
I am now asked for username and password.
According to the documentation, and in
beta0+patches, this should be possible without
password. It's first when you browse for
\\TJENER\ login credentials should be required.

I have also made diff of the following files from
beta0+patches (working) and wheezy-test (not working):

  gosa.conf
  smbldap-machineadd
But I don't see any significant changes. So I
think the changed behaviour must be caused by something else.

Bug#720092: Please package ocl

2013-08-18 Thread Andrey Gursky
Source: opencv
Version: 2.4.5+dfsg-0exp1
Severity: normal

Hi,

there is a "new" module in opencv: ocl, allowing using OpenCL. It is
introduced almost a year ago [1]:

2.4.3 (November 2012):
Technology-preview version of ocl - OpenCL-accelerated computer vision
algorithms, contributed by the Chinese Academy of Science

and it has been improved in consecutive releases:

2.4.4 (March 2013):
The openCL-based hardware acceleration (ocl) module is now mature,
and, with numerous bug fixes, it is largely bug-free.

2.4.5 (April 2013):
there are further improvements and extensions in ocl module:...

2.4.6 (July 2013):
Binary compatiblility with both OpenCL 1.1/1.2 platforms. Now the
binaries compiled with any of AMD/Intel/Nvidia's SDK can run on all
other platforms.

Please, consider packaging this module.

Thanks,
Andrey

Bug#666525: not fixed yet in pbuilder 0.215

2013-08-18 Thread Yann Dirson
found 666525 pbuilder/0.215
thanks

I regularly got in the previous weeks, when working on gcompris, qgo,
and today with tagua:

ccache: FATAL: Failed to create /work/pbuilder/ccache/b/0: Permission denied
make[3]: *** [src/CMakeFiles/tagua.dir/hlvariant/minichess5/variant.o] Error 1

Trying to avoid the problem, I had just regenerated by base.tgz from
scratch, but it obviously did not help.

I am using the "shell on failure" hook from
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Ekubuntu-members/pbuilder/pbuilder-hooks/,
which helps me see what's wrong:

# ls -l /work/pbuilder/ccache
total 72
drwxr-xr-x 6 pbuilder pbuilder 4096 Aug 18 13:30 0
...
drwxr-xr-x 5 pbuilder pbuilder 4096 Aug 18 13:30 9

drwxr-xr-x 3 pbuilder pbuilder 4096 Aug 18 13:30 f
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 18 13:22 tmp

The workaround I use is very far from satisfactory, but far less
costly than rerunning the build from scratch: from the hook's shell
run:

chown -R pbuilder.pbuilder /work/pbuilder/ccache

then let the build go on:

 dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc

... and manually copy the generated files from the chroot before
exiting the shell.

reply from upstream:
they rewrote that section of the code since release 12, so that line
doesn't appear anymore:
https://github.com/sudar/Arduino-Makefile

Could you try upstream's master and see if that works? I think they're
still doing lots of rewrites now that the new development team is

Bug#719496: freeorion: input textfields doesn't work after a while.

2013-08-18 Thread Markus Koschany
Hi Yann and Marius,

I'm in contact with the developers of FreeOrion and they asked me to relay
a question to you.

Quote from http://www.freeorion.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7719

You can switch with ALT-Tab between different windows and FreeOrion and
sometimes you
can't type because this locks your keyboard input. Can you confirm that pressing
ALT again in this case allows you to type again?

Another idea:

> Reading the debian bug about the inconsistent time this problem occurs I
> would like to
> know if some notification mechanism snitches away the focus of the window.
> Maybe that is something your user should test with some x11 event tracing.

Can you try reproducing this bug and showing us the output of xtrace?

xtrace freeorion > xtrace.log

Perhaps another application interferes with FreeOrion and this might be a way
to track
down the issue.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Markus

Bug#720096: rsyslog ignores rotated log file

See how messages.1 is written, but messages is ignored? I haven't
figured out how to reproduce this, yet.

6:25 was boot time. The PC was shut down clean before. logrotate is

cron,daemon.none;\

Bug#720097: problem with r8169 ethernet driver

When I'm starting Apache Bench (ab) from my PC which has the same motherboard

I have not noticed other problems with that controller or driver so far except
this one with Apache Bench.

Bug#720073: grub fails to install with root partition >~50GB

2013-08-18 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Hi Robert,

If GRUB installed successfully, and you booted it, it would then need to
load the kernel image and initramfs into memory. AFAIK it would be
unable to do that if those are inside of the encrypted LVM. (The wheezy
version of GRUB2 can't itself open the encrypted LVM, and the kernel
would be not running yet).

It is mentioned in the install guide but many people seem to miss this
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/amd64/ch06s03.html.en#di-partition

It is unfortunate the user is not warned of the problem until the final
stages of the install process... (similar situation to Bug#717511).

I'm not familiar with UEFI, but if the 'efiboot' partition is what I
think it is, it need only be about 1MiB. But you would also create for
example a 254MiB partition configured with a mountpoint of /boot. It
must also be of a filesystem recognised by GRUB; something simple like
ext2 should be ideal.

There can be issues with older BIOSes and partitions over a certain size
like you mention, but the configuration I described above fits
everything needed to boot the kernel within the first 256MiB of the disk.

Great to see that you want to take care of this, but can you let us know
how you plan to let dpkg-buildpackage cooperate with the upper layer tools
to have a full log file that can be added to .changes?

If we don't care about adding it to .changes, then it's trivial,
dpkg-buildpackage can just ignore the file, but otherwise we need
some way to transfer the control of the log file or something similar.

The requirements IMO is to have the start of the log from the upper layer
(i.e. sbuild setup of build dependencies) but also have the log properly
closed at the time dpkg-buildpackage runs dpkg-genchanges, because once
it has been added to the .changes it should not be further modified
obviously.

Bug#720103: Missing dot in package description (means a ton of extra work for translators and inconsistency)

2013-08-18 Thread Joe Dalton
Package: libghc-hscolour-doc
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi, all of the libghc translations has in Sid been changed so they no longer
has the repeated text i separated sections. Meaning that translators has too
translate the same text again (and again and again - you have a lot of
packages).

Example: http://ddtp.debian.net/ddt.cgi?package=libghc-hscolour-doc

Wheezy
HsColour currently has five output formats: ANSI terminal codes, HTML 3.2
with tags, HTML 4.01 with CSS, LaTeX, and mIRC chat client
codes.
.
This package contains the library documentation.

83063 in wheezy is translated to Danish and the first sections has the
information for the three packages.

In Sid you have changed this to:

Description: Documentation for libghc-hscolour-dev; documentation
HsColour currently has five output formats: ANSI terminal codes, HTML 3.2
with tags, HTML 4.01 with CSS, LaTeX, and mIRC chat client
 codes.
This package provides the documentation for a library for the Haskell
 programming language.
See http://www.haskell.org/ for more information on Haskell.

The result is that the first section is no longer translated (and has to be
translated at least three times) and the last part has to be translated in each
and every package description.

an extra dot:
HsColour currently has five output formats: ANSI terminal codes, HTML 3.2
with tags, HTML 4.01 with CSS, LaTeX, and mIRC chat client
 codes.
.
This package provides the documentation for a library for the Haskell
 programming language.
See http://www.haskell.org/ for more information on Haskell.

would mean that the translation for the second section would be copied
automatically to all the other package descriptions with the same text. And the
first part would be copied to the three package descriptions with this text.

That little dot means a lot (for us translators)

bye
Joe
(Danish)

PS: I have just sent this bug report for one package, but it is relevant for a
lot of package descriptions (all libghc-***).

Hi Tom!

Glad to see you are working on this package.

debian/control: why do you depend explicitely on such a version of GCC?
The README states gcc 4.7+ but your version excludes GCC as in Wheezy.

debian/copyright: just to let you know that it is usually easier to use
the same license for debian/* than for the package. For example, this
would allow upstream to pick your eventual patches without having having
a license conflict. But this is not a necessity.

capnproto-doc.docs, capnproto-doc.install, capnproto.install have some
odd contents. For .install, it would be the first time I see a directory
without a wildcard in it. Maybe this works but this seems unusual to me.

README.source content is bogus too, remove it.

In debian/rules, remove the comments saying this is a sample. This is no
longer a sample.

In C++, the symbols file will change depending on the
architecture. Therefore, you should use demangled names by using
c++filt. See:  https://wiki.debian.org/UsingSymbolsFiles

I am unable to compile the package on a clean chroot. The unittests
fail:

src/capnp/encoding-test.c++:37: Failure
Value of: reader.size()
  Actual: 1348
Expected: expected.size()
Which is: 4

The broken upstream build system uses gcc to compile and link C++ code
which is incorrect. Besides, it uses silent output when running make
without target so the only way to disable it without patching is to call
`make all`.

Bug#627833: gramps crashes while trying to add the first person

2013-08-18 Thread Ross Gammon
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Juergen,

I was unable to reproduce this problem on my Squeeze machine (Gramps
3.2.3-4).

Do you still have the problem?
Or have you successfully upgraded Gramps 3.4.0 which is in Wheezy?

If you no longer have the problem, you could reply to this message
saying how you got it working. Or you could send an email to
627833-d...@bugs.debian.org (with a message on how it was solved)
which will close the bug.

Regards,

Ross

I can confirm that using the wl_linux.c file provided by Lev does fix the build
issues, the module compiles and then loads correctly and appears to be working
just fine so far.

another friendly ping.

In case you are working on this and my messages just annoy you, please
tell me so. Nothing worse than radio silence :).

Bug#720105: Fails to include autofs4 module when systemd is used

2013-08-18 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: dracut
Version: 031-2
Severity: normal

When systemd is used in the initramfs, it tries very early on to
load the autofs4 kernel module [1] yet dracut does not include that

This leads to an error message during boot:

Please consider adding that module when building the initramfs.

Bug#706913: nslcd breaks PAM authentication from non-root processes

2013-08-18 Thread Arthur de Jong
An alternative solution would be to also return shadow information to
non-root users but leave out the password hashes. This is what pynslcd
in experimental currently does.

I *think* that is reasonable and don't see any security issues from
exposing the other information from the shadow database.

Comments welcome.

The ACLs are a nice idea but I don't see them happening really soon
unless someone steps up for this.
