Bug#696939: can't create jabber accounts

2012-12-30 Thread Simon McVittie
severity 696939 wishlist
tags 696939 + upstream
thanks

On 29/12/12 18:12, Daniel Pocock wrote:
> The only account types supported are Windows Live, Google and Facebook

Yes, GOA is limited to a small set of well-known services.

To configure a generic Jabber account in a GNOME GUI, use the Accounts
editor in Empathy - run empathy(1) and press F4 or go to Edit->Accounts,
or run empathy-accounts(1). This is also where you configure any other
IM accounts supported by Telepathy but not by GOA.

To configure a generic Jabber account programmatically, use the
Telepathy AccountManager D-Bus API (mc-tool(1) provides a CLI frontend
for most of that API).

> It appears that open standards based account types like Jabber are not
> supported in a default installation.

They are not supported by GOA, no. If you object to this please take it
up with upstream. It appears to be a deliberate design choice that
things like "generic Jabber" and "generic SMTP/IMAP/POP" are offered by
individual applications like Empathy and Evolution, rather than being
available in GOA.

The purpose of GOA is to configure "general" single-sign-on accounts
providing multiple capabilities over various protocols: for instance, a
Google account provides Google Talk for Empathy/Telepathy, Google
Calendar for Evolution, etc., and a Windows Live account provides Live
Messenger for Empathy/Telepathy, and in principle, Hotmail for Evolution
and SkyDrive for Nautilus/GVFS (I don't know whether those are actually
implemented).

first, generally, always use the newest live-* from a certain branch
(for 3.x, that would be whatever currently is in sid). anything else,
and specifically testing, is not supported anyway.

second, to your specific problem, i've fixed it in git. thanks for

With this patch it's working fine for me, both for users with a small
number of groups and for users with a large numbers of groups.

Sascha

Description: Fix get_groups_for_user() for large number of users
get_groups_for_user() used a hard-coded limit for the number of
groups before, barring all access to users with a large number of
 groups.
 .
Dynamically allocate the list instead, potentially resizing it based
 on what getgroupslist() tells us.

That's good. But I don't know which change might have fixed this.
Could you possibly test some of the intermediate versions (from

first upstream release with this fix, so that I have a smaller range of
changes to look through?

That's not exactly true, it is possible to add build-depends (or
-conflicts) for a one-shot binNMU. But for clarity and further binNMUs
(against unstable) doing the right thing a sourceful upload is preferred.
(They wouldn't be copied to the new one.)

This may be related to use of the uas driver (UAS = USB-attached SCSI).
This driver is not ready for production use and is no longer built in
version 3.2.35-1. All UAS devices should also implement USB storage and
we have a mature driver for that. Other distributions made this change
earlier.

Please let us know whether this is fixed in 3.2.35-1.

Ben.

I can't reproduce this:

$ perf record -p 20140 -g  # 20140 is my own process
^C[ perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data ]
[ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.015 MB perf.data (~634 samples) ]

Consider tweaking /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid:

Is the target process running under the same uid as perf? Can you
provide an strace log for this?

What do you mean by "changed"? The example in my previous mail, as well
as on wiki.debian.org, shows that you need to use (), not [], to
construct the options...

if you misread and/or miscopy things, obviously they won't work ;-)

That's because you're passing an anonymous array reference rather than a
list as an array initializer, which doesn't work.

Yes, but I decided to take the sample config from the package
in sid as baseline and apply the instructions from you, the
Wiki, the buildd.d.o page and Stephen’s mail from 2008 only as
suggestions (it did turn out that a lot of changes and settings
are redundant or no longer exist).

The sample config uses $ and [], and rleigh insisted earlier in
IRC that that was the new style to use. I said, fine, but only
once it actually works ;-)

Package: sponsorship-requests Severity: wishlist Dear mentors, I am looking

those binary packages: premake4 - cross-platform build script generator To

is an update of the premake package (http://packages.debian.org/sid/premake).
Originally I ITA'd the premake package, but after seeking advice from d-mentors
I've created a new package. The main reason being upstream have renamed the

Bug#697000: android: format working on ntfs but not ext3

2012-12-30 Thread patrick295767
Package: qemu
Version: 0.12.5+dfsg-3squeeze1

Hi,

If you install android you cannot make it to an image of ext3. yeap
indeed.

If you receive this error:

cannot mount /dev/sdaX

Then select the "ntfs" file system instead and repeat the operation.
You will be then prompted whether to install or not the GRUB boot loader,
select "Yes" and press Enter:

I join you the link to the bug that should be fixed.

It works with ntfs as you may see into the screenshots.

I hope that it helped.

Yours Sincerely,
P.

Severity: normal

Hi,

If you install android you cannot make it to an image of ext3. yeap
indeed.

 If you receive this error:

 cannot mount /dev/sdaX

Then select the "ntfs" file system instead and repeat the operation. You will be
then prompted whether to install or not the GRUB boot loader, select "Yes" and press
Enter:

I join you the link to the bug that should be fixed.

It works with ntfs as you may see into the screenshots.

Please describe in a bit more details what the issue is.
Somehow I fail to understand what you're talking about,
ie, at all.

What do you do, what you expect qemu to do, and what it
actually does.

Note that qemu package itself is a meta-package, it contains
no files and can't be buggy by definition.

Note also there's something wrong with clock on your computer.

I hope that it helped.

No, it didn't help, at all. Sorry.

Thanks,

/mjt

The MediaWiki HTML sanitiser accepts an array of tags to also
accept in the output. I’ve tried whitelisting 'a' and 'img',
but the latter does not currently work. I hope this will be
addressed in a future version of MediaWiki (actually, I could
probably cook up a patch), and right now, its presence there
is a nop.

Bug#585681: qemu-user: mmap: Operation not permitted

QEMU user mode emulation binaries (specifically qemu-arm) fail with
mmap: Operation not permitted when run as a user. When run as a root
there is no problem.

With CodeSourcery G++ Lite installed at $HOME:
http://www.codesourcery.com/sgpp/lite/arm/portal/release1293

tinuviel@debian:~$ cat hello.c
#include
int main() {

hello.c -o hello

tinuviel@debian:~$ qemu-arm -L
/home/tinuviel/arm-2010q1/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/libc hello
mmap: Operation not permitted

Do you still observe this issue with current qemu-user?
I can't reproduce it neither with current (1.x) version
nor with reported (0.12) version, but maybe it is the
host kernel which is different in my case, or maybe it
is 32/64bit difference.

Thanks,

Bug#697002: jessie: -R skips check of /etc and /usr in addition to /

2012-12-30 Thread Roger Leigh
Package: util-linux
Version: 2.20.1-5.3
Severity: important
Tags: patch
Usertags: usrinitramfs etcinitramfs

The attached patch is to apply for jessie, so isn't appropriate
to use until after wheezy is released. See
http://wiki.debian.org/ReleaseGoals/MountUsrInInitramfs
for further information.

To summarise, the intent is to mount /usr (and potentially also
/etc for certain specialised use cases) in the initramfs, so that
/usr is available as soon as init starts.

The fsck -R option ignores filesystems which are mounted when
checkfs runs. Currently this is only the rootfs (plus special
filesystems which aren't checked). With /usr (and /etc) mounted
early, the -R option therefore needs extending to support these
filesystems as well so that we check them manually in checkroot,
and skip them in checkfs.

The upload of this change will need coordinating with the
initramfs-tools and sysvinit packages so that we get the
dependencies correct so that usr is checked (and only checked
once, not zero or twice).

Thanks,
Roger

Here the way I've created it:

# sudo lxc-create -n lxctest -t debian
?? Preseed file anyone?
-> ""
?? Distribution.
-> "Debian GNU/Linux unstable/sid"
?? Architecture
-> "64-bit PC (amd64)"

?? Mirror
-> "http://ftp.debian.org/debian/";
?? Archive Areas
-> "main" selected
?? Packages

?? "Which scripts should be run to configure the current system"

Selecting "sysvinit" in the last step seems to fix it. (but you
have to select "passwd" to also be able to login with an password).
You get following extra choices:

?? Should Linux Container (LXC) support be enabled?
-> Yes
?? How many concurrent consoles should the current container provide?
-> 6
?? Some services are not useful in containers and should be disabled"
-> checkroot.sh hwclockfirst.sh hwclock.sh kmod module-init-tools mountall.sh
mountkernfs.sh umountfs umountroot

Bug#691093: /sbin/dosfsck: fsck.msdos with -a terminates with "buffer overflow detected"

2012-12-30 Thread Joerie de Gram
The format string passed to alloc_rootdir_entry results in sprintf
overflowing de->name, writing the trailing null byte to de->ext
(check.c:177). This might have been the author's intention, but
_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 does not allow such behaviour, terminating the
program.

A patch for this issue is available on the Red Hat bugtracker [1],
where Jaroslav mentions having sent the patch upstream on 2011-02-01.
Regardless, the patch doesn't seem to have made its way into a
dosfstools release.

(The Debian maintainer appears to be the dosfstools author - please
have a look at aforementioned Red Hat bug report)

Just to clear up any confusion:

In both sbuild and buildd, we changed the internal configuration
(Buildd::Conf and Sbuild::Conf classes) to *only* use scalars,
which makes it possible to handle all configuration sanely and
also for every option to be undefined and have default properties
which will be used if undefined etc. There are some other
reasons as well, but the main point is that internally, all
configuration data is a scalar (which includes arrayrefs and
hashrefs). These are not recent changes; it's all at least two
years old and in use on all the other buildds AFAIK.

Externally, in buildd.conf/sbuild.conf, all configuration is
also a scalar, which maps directly onto the internal name->scalar
hashmap. For backward compatibility, we still support the older
array/hash objects, but this is for compatibility *only*. The
read() function maps the old configuration onto the new. For
new setups, there is no reason to use the old format; please just
use the recommended configuration as documented in sbuild.conf
and buildd.conf.

For the distributions list, the syntax changed quite significantly;
see the read() function which handles the conversion. Philipp Kern
did this work.

Thanks,
Roger

There are so many issues here:

+ DEVSHM=d
+ RUN=d
+ RUNSHM=d
+ mountpoint -q /dev/
+ DEV=m
+ mountpoint -q /dev/shm/
+ [ -L /dev/shm ]
+ mountpoint -q /run/
+ mountpoint -q /run/shm/
+ [ -L /run/shm ]
+ RUNSTATE=mddd
+ RUNACTION=NONE

My jailed system's /dev is rather special (a sort of read-only devfs
mount); it doesn't contain a /dev/shm directory or link, and I'm not
even able to create one as root.

+ ls -A /run/shm
+ [ .tmpfs !=  ]

This command indicates there is a file in this folder, called .tmpfs
(though it isn't really a tmpfs), and so:

+ mv /run/shm/* /dev/shm
mv: cannot stat `/run/shm/*': No such file or directory

The wildcard does not match the .tmpfs file, and since there are no
matching files this is an error. Postinst fails.

On the other hand, if there'd been some non-hidden files/directories
there, they would be moved, but any remaining hidden ones would be
deleted(!).

Another problem is that if /dev/shm doesn't exist, and since a trailing
slash wasn't used; if my /dev had been writable and this command
succeeded, it could place some directory from /run/shm there with
arbitrary ownership/permissions, or some arbitrary link with scary
consequences.

How about doing it this way instead - I think this is safer, complete,
and even avoids races:

# find /run/shm -mindepth 1 -xdev -execdir mv \{\} /dev/shm/ \;

Anyway; why are we doing any of this? In this (awkward) situation we'd
ideally leave /run/shm contents where they are already, and /dev/shm
must stay non-existent.

I think this is a similar scenario to:

> - /dev/ is bind mounted, and /dev/shm is a non-bind-mounted
> directory. We can't fix this, so we should just create the
> /run/shm directory and leave /dev/shm alone.

I did NOT say you don't contribute.

I was using the word "contribute" as a synonym for "provide", so perhaps
I should have written something like:

If you think that this bug justifies a "serious" severity then you
need to _provide_ some more justification for that, because the
information currently contained in the bug does not justify it yet,
  in this reader's opinion.

I'm sorry that you read what I wrote as some sort of wider criticism.
That was not my intent, and I'm sorry that that was how it was read.

I'm also sorry that you are reacting like that.

GNOME shell or fallback?

fwiw, I cannot reproduce the problem.
Since you filed the bug against network-manager-gnome, I assume you are
using the fallback mode.
Can you check ~/.xsession-errors for relevant messages.
Do you get any error messages if you kill nm-applet and start it from a
shell?

Is this problem reproducible with a fresh user account?
What's the content of /etc/network/interfaces and the output of ifconfig
-a / nm-tool?

I'm not sure the build dependencies changes qualify for an unblock
request at this stage of the freeze: they may change the produced code
in ways that are hard / impossible to review. Do these changes fix
actual problems? (Bonus points if bug numbers are provided :)

I don't feel able to review the C++ code changes, so I've no clear
position on this request anyway, but I guess the Release Team might
feel more comfortable with this request if they are pointed to bug
reports the proposed update fixes.

Cheers!

do you think this update is fit / needed for Wheezy?

Bug#697003: initscripts: postinst fails: mv /dev/shm/* misses dot (hidden) files

2012-12-30 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Hi,

This may have been my fault. I can avoid this by actually mounting /run
as tmpfs (from the host, when constructing the jail). This allows a
successful and sane upgrade:

+ RUNSTATE=mdmd
+ RUNACTION=NONE
+ echo Due to mounts in the chroot, /dev/shm can't be safely symlinked
to /run/shm. Please correct this problem manually.

That said, some of the other problems I mentioned sound serious: the
handling of hidden files in /dev/shm or /run/shm when moving things.

Thanks.

No reverse dependencies, priority: optional, leaf package.

I don't feel I'm qualified to review the actual code changes,
but they are indeed non-intrusive, relatively short,
and to the point as far as I can tell.

Hi Ben,

so, now after hours and hours of compiling, I could not manage to get the
patched module loaded. The system is telling something of "version mismatch".

Whatever, I think, just close the bug and do no more efforts in fixing the bug,
it is itz not worth for the following reasons:

1. This bug is now since kernel 3.1 and no one cared of it - except of me.

2. As I am the only one with this bug, it needs not to be fixed - I got a
solution for me (just using a newer kernel)

3. The kernel 3.2.X is such old, that it will be very soon replaced by the
newer ones - who cares, what Ubuntu does.

4. I suggest, just to add the patch into the next kernel 3.2-0-XXX version. I
will report it. It will make things not worse than they are. I will report of
my tests then.

So, it will be ok for me, if the bug will be closed.

Thank you very much for your help, and do not waste any time for fixing this
bug. There are much more important bugs to fix, I think!

Best regards and a happy new year!

Hans

I'm still trying to construct this list. It's going to take a while.

On the positive side, it looks as though many of the 227 that I
mentioned can be ignored, because they're actually not the problematic
cases. (For instance, the usage in GstElement is safe, as it turns out.)

Bug#697003: initscripts: postinst fails: mv /dev/shm/* misses dot (hidden) files

Does /dev/shm exist on a standard kFreeBSD install?

Why does this file exist here? It should only be created by the
init scripts (mountkernfs) and even then it's only transient
during boot to prevent cleaning of the tmpfs. AFAICS this should
not be present.

OK. This makes sense. The question is really why this file
came to be present inside the directory. While failing here is
certainly a bug, it's a failure mode which should never occur
in practice since .tmpfs should never be present on a running
system after boot.

For the use case in question (in chroots) this is by design.
There is no use case for dotfiles in /dev/shm.

This is certainly safer. However, we should be catering for this
already--we shouldn't be doing any modification of /dev if it's
a mountpoint of any sort. Likewise we won't touch /dev/shm if it's
a mountpoint.

> Anyway; why are we doing any of this? In this (awkward) situation we'd

I think the crux of the question is whether we support /dev without
/dev/shm. It's a glibc requirement. Why is this directory not
present? Or at least symlinked to /run/shm? Currently we are making
the assumption that it will be present, and I'm not sure if that's
a bug or not.

Roger

Hi Hans,

Could you send the command you used? Generally you need to install
the new Debian package you built and reboot to test, but there are
other possibilities, too. The above doesn't tell me enough to know
what went wrong.

You've made this same argument before. The sad situation we're in is
that only a small fraction of Debian users report bugs. You're a
representative of quiet masses of Debian users, potential Debian
users, and other Linux users with similar hardware. Meanwhile
stubborn people like me want to see all easily-fixable hardware
support bugs fixed, even if they only affect one person.

Sorry for the burden, but it really does help.

Of course if you're sick of it, that's also fine --- we can mark the
bug as unreproducible, stop bothering you, and probably close it in a
couple of weeks.

Hoping that clarifies,
Jonathan

NAK. If tsung breaks when the erlang version changes, it either needs
to stop doing that or it needs to express that fact in its Depends
field. Either way a binNMU is not the way to go IMO.

We will *not* maintain -6 in SID. It will go away and will be replaced
by the Folsom packaging as soon as Wheezy is released. So why would you
keep it in SID?

Ah, that makes sense!!! :)

But I don't think this cuts it. The changes will be necessary in Folsom
anyway, because we should provide an upgrade path in SID. So we're
doomed to the replaces+breaks it here. Note that we already have a
Replaces: in the alioth for the Folsom release Quantum which I plan to
upload soon. Should I add a Breaks: too? (I think so)

Yeah, I wasn't debating this, I was questioning the relevance of using
t-p-u instead of SID.

Then you should create a debian/wheezy branch in the Git! I was planning
on doing that just right after the release of wheezy for all of our
packages, but it will be needed now for Quantum if you want the package
to have a Wheezy and a SID branch now. As much as I can see, Alioth
doesn't have a debian/wheezy branch, does it?

It wasn't my intention. I just wanted to highlight that this needs to be
fixed soon. I do hope you don't take it personally.

> First of all it is 3.5 months (not 6)

My count started on the 2012-07-06, when Quantum -6 was uploaded by Loic
in SID. After such an upload, action should have been taken to have the
package unblock (or that upload should have been made in experimental).

> secondly I have asked about your
> opintion on this matter without response and that explains more than 2 months.

Well, the problem is that I might agree with the changes, *BUT*, I'm not
a member of the release team, and therefore, I don't have any decision
power. Also, I didn't really understand what was done at the time, and I
probably still don't get why everything all of the code isn't stored in
the python-* package. The only reason why I've been asking you, was to
provide information to the release team for an unblock. But now I see
that discussing it with me didn't help. :(

I'm sorry that it seems you've been waiting on me. (As a rule, if I
don't answer within 5 days, consider that either I don't know what to
answer, or that your mail is stuck on my huge mail queue and that I had
no time to answer. In which case, either send me another mail, or try to
deal without my answer.)

Again, I'm not trying to put the blame on you, just trying to push you
to solve the current problem. Thanks again for working on it.

Thomas

Bug#697010: unblock: nova/2012.1.1-11 (rootwrap path fix)

2012-12-30 Thread Thomas Goirand
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org

Dear Release Team,

My latest upload of Nova in SID fixes some path problems in the
rootwrap thing of Nova. Without it, Nova will fail to use the
iscsiadm command, which is needed to mount VM volumes.

The patch (which I attached to this message) is rather trivial:
/sbin/ip -> /bin/ip and /sbin/iscsiadm -> /usr/bin/iscsiadm
in the /etc/nova/rootwrap configuration folder.

Please allow this fix to reach Wheezy, and unblock nova/2012.1.1-11.

Yep. It already looked reproducible and the build for i386 again didn't
work. Also I don't know why you're copying hurd-i386, because that one
doesn't look transient at all.

Because I merged the patches from Simon's git, which did not have his
latest changes (which, by the way, are all accounted for, the change
that wasn't in his git is reverted by -5) that were uploaded, and I
only noticed that when preparing the debdiff. Sorry about that.

I have no idea what this is about and why it should be a bug in
texlive-binaries. mendexk does not even depend on texlive-binaries.

Hisashi-san (or is it Morita-san?), could you please describe in detail
what you did, that is

- provide a minimal (La)TeX input file that produces the
  mendexk/makeindex input

- name the commands you use to produce the output files

Thanks, Frank

Bug#697003: initscripts: postinst fails: mv /dev/shm/* misses dot (hidden) files

2012-12-30 Thread Steven Chamberlain
Control: severity -1 minor

On 30/12/12 19:07, Roger Leigh wrote:
> Does /dev/shm exist on a standard kFreeBSD install?

It gets created by initscripts as symlink to /run/shm. Otherwise it
would not be there; apparently Linux 2.6 invented it and it didn't seem
too popular with upstream FreeBSD.

> It's a glibc requirement.

I didn't know this. Software running in the jails fortunately seems to
be using /run/shm properly.

Within jails, I cannot write to /dev (even as root) so shm cannot be
created as a directory or symlink. But as an alternative I can create
it from the host system before booting, so that will do as a workaround
and for compatibility.

Jails, and how to use them, are still a bit experimental/undocumented
for GNU/kFreeBSD. Thanks for your input on this; I'll make sure this
gets written up somewhere.

It's timestamped from when the jailed system booted, which would have
been with initscripts 2.88dsf-32.

It seems to be created by mount_shm in mount-functions.sh. Is it
missing from the cleanup here in bootmisc?

# Remove bootclean's flag files.
# Don't run bootclean again after this!
rm -f /tmp/.clean /lib/init/rw/.clean /run/.clean /run/lock/.clean
rm -f /tmp/.tmpfs /lib/init/rw/.tmpfs /run/.tmpfs /run/lock/.tmpfs

While here - could neaten this up a little:

for dir in /lib/init/rw /tmp /run /run/lock /run/shm; do
rm -f "$dir/.clean" "$dir/.tmpfs"
done

In that case, the "ls -A" flag is unnecessary? A plain "ls" would
determine if anything in that directory needs keeping. And the error
with "mv" would be avoided.

> This is certainly safer. However, we should be catering for this

> a mountpoint of any sort.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by modification, but at least for the
mmdd|mddd cases it will try to move files to /dev/shm

Maybe it's not a realistic situation, but since there is no trailing
slash, if /dev/shm didn't exist, a malicious user could have created in
advance:

1. a symlink /run/shm/oops -> /etc (which gets placed first as /dev/shm)
2. regular file /run/shm/passwd (which gets written over /etc/passwd)

> Currently we are making
> the assumption that it will be present, and I'm not sure if that's
> a bug or not.

I'm not sure either. The above issue poses a security risk, so I'd
consider adding a trailing slash (so that "mv" fails with an error
instead); I guess it is unlikely though and so needn't be fixed with
any urgency.

Thanks!

Bug#697014: plee-the-bear: Graphic vanished in the middle of training level

2012-12-30 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Package: plee-the-bear
Version: 0.6.0-1+b1
Severity: normal

I just tried plee-the-bear and worked my way through the training
level. All in all the game worked as expected (sometimes the jump
sequence seems stuck, i.e. although I left the space bar, plee keeps
jumping until e.g. I hit a upward wall), but after I got the fire
magic (and I might have died trying it out) the graphics vanished. The
music kept running (and also sound effects) but without graphics I had
no idea what to do.

I finally killed the game from the command line.

Bug#679770: [pkg-wpa-devel] Bug#679770: hostapd doesn't start at all

2012-12-30 Thread Fejes József
Hi,

I gave this another try. Did a purge, started everything from scratch.
Exact same error. Now I tried to run hostapd in foreground mode, here is
what I got with double debug output:

[...snip...]
Driver does not support configured HT capability [DELAYED-BA]
wlan0: Unable to setup interface.
Flushing old station entries
Deauthenticate all stations
rmdir[ctrl_interface]: No such file or directory
nl80211: Remove interface ifindex=17
netlink: Operstate: linkmode=0, operstate=6
nl80211: Set mode ifindex 4 iftype 2 (STATION)

Then I removed that HT capability, and it seems to work fine.

This is a Sparklan WPEA-127N card, I would believe it is pretty advanced
and should support these advanced features. I don't know who's at fault
here, can you help me with that? And why did it cause an error now? A: it
didn't support this feature before either, but it didn't cause an error in
0.7. B: this feature broke in 1.0.

Best regards,
József

Bug#665881: [wheezy] module ath5k is blocking wlan-card

2012-12-30 Thread Hans-J. Ullrich
Hi Jonathan,

Sure! I did the following: Installed all needed packages, unpacked the source
package and made a symlink /usr/src/linux to /usr/src/linux-source-3.2

Patched: patch -p1 < /mypath/blah/0001ath5kxx.patch
So I did with all patches.

Then copied /boot/config-3.2.0-4-amd64 to /usr/src/linux/.config (so I got also
the version, worked before in the past this way).

After that make menuconfig to check.

Building then: make modules, because I just wanted to build only the ath5k
module.

At last I copied the newly build module ath5k.ko and replaced it with the new
built one.

depmod -a finished all.

Well, if there are other people with the same problem, leave it open. Very ok
for me! I just did not want to waste your time for a single person (=me), who
cannot give much help back.

No, I am not sick and I will try it in the next time. But my time is limited,
as I cannot run compilatiuon at work and in the evening the time is often too
short, to run a compilation.

Bug#692249: sata boot+grub unknown filesystem without boot=on

2012-12-30 Thread Gianluigi Tiesi

Control: tags -1 + moreinfo unreproducible

Package: qemu-kvm

Hi, I've noticed my kvm warns about using boot=on so I've decided to
find some documentation,
as I found boot=on enables extboot option rom removed upstream because
seabios can boot directly
from sata. References in #652447, perhaps I was able to boot as linux
vm from a scsi disk using
latest seabios code without using lsi proprietary rom (maybe they
implemented scsi boot).

if I run:
vm -m 1024 -snapshot -device ahci,id=ahci0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5 -drive
file=/dev/sda,if=none,id=drive-sata0-0-0,format=raw,boot=on -device
ide-hd,bus=ahci0.0,drive=drive-sata0-0-0,id=sata0-0-0

This is not scsi, this is ahci, FWIW.

Yes true, but boot=on option was made for scsi, so why it makes work my
ahci setup that instead would not work? I mean it should be unrelated
but instead looks like related.

kvm complains about deprecated boot=on, grub loads and it can boot

but if I run:
kvm -m 1024 -snapshot -device ahci,id=ahci0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5 -drive
file=/dev/sda,if=none,id=drive-sata0-0-0,format=raw -device
ide-hd,bus=ahci0.0,drive=drive-sata0-0-0,id=sata0-0-0

grub loads but it's unable to identify the filesystem

Well. Which version of seabios is that? I'm asking because
this does not boot at all with current seabios+qemu-kvm from
wheezy: guest bios does not find any boot device. If in your
case guest bios finds the boot device and loads grub, it must
be some other version of either qemu-kvm or seabios.

I'm on sid, and the just updated seabios 1.7.1-1 exposes same behavior
qemu-kvm is 1.1.2+dfsg-3

But at any rate, you forgot one more parameter: it is bootindex.
Try this:

  kvm -m 1024 -snapshot \
   -device ahci,id=ahci0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x5 \
   -drive file=/dev/sda,if=none,id=drive-sata0-0-0,format=raw \
   -device
ide-hd,bus=ahci0.0,drive=drive-sata0-0-0,id=sata0-0-0,bootindex=0

This works here just fine.

Unfortunately bootindex options changes nothing

Does it answer your question/issue?

sda4 is ext4, and I'm trying to boot my windows from my linux

maybe seabios it's unable to correcly map whole drive?

Nope, it is completely unrelated. For any virtual disk drive
given by qemu to the guest - no matter at all which it is on
the host - the guest (including the bios) sees it just like
a regular disk drive. It is up to qemu to make the host
representation of it completely transparent, and qemu does a
good job in there.

here grub2 without boot=on

Booting from Hard Disk...
GRUB loading.

grub rescue> ls (hd0,msdos4)

while it works fine with boot=on

Grub2 files are in my currently mounted root partition
