Bug#648921: catdoc 0.94.2-2 started to replace parts of rtf with junk
Package: catdoc Version: 0.94.2-2 Severity: important In addition to replacing letter "я" with BOM (#648726) catdoc 0.94.2-2 started to replace significant parts of the text with latin1 junk in rtf documents. Catdoc 0.94.2-1.1 appears to work correctly. (Sample document and outputs of both catdoc versions attached.) Also, catdoc 0.94.2-2 seems to print hexadecimal dumps (pictures?) in some rtfs, while catdoc 0.94.2-1.1 produces readable text. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.3 APT prefers stable APT policy: (900, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages catdoc depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib catdoc recommends no packages. Bug#648835: libsane: libsave pulls in sane-utils including a daemon
Am 15.11.2011 17:53, schrieb Julien BLACHE: Most people using libsane will need scanimage at some point, because it's used extensively in documentation. Others won't need/want it and are free to do away with it. That's exactly what Recommends is for. I wouldn't say I am "using" libsane, I don't even have access to a scanner device on this system. It's not that I installed it on purpose, I am using software that depends on software that depends on it. And I end up with a package that contains utilities and a daemon. OTOH, I have used my own scanner with SANE (mostly with the xsane frontend) on another system and I have never ever felt the need to use any of the tools in sane-utils. As for saned, it's disabled by default. Do you really want yet another package for a single executable, its manpage and an initscript? Yes, why not. I'd consider it good practise to have a separate sane-daemon package. Many other packages have already done this split. And the fact that the daemon is disabled by default does not hide the fact that the package raised two debconf questions during installation. Please reconsider your decision regarding libsane recommending sane-utils. - Fabian -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#647610: CVE-2011-4079: Denial of Service through off-by-one
I found thiese comments from Ramon de C Valle in the RedHat bugzilla (2011-10-28 11:21:16 EDT) Doug Lea's Malloc stores chunks whose size is smaller than 512 bytes in one of the small bins, which holds identically sized chunks. The size of a chunk is always a multiple of 8 bytes, and the first small bin holds 16 bytes chunks. Since the minimum allocated size is 16 bytes, it seems no data that can result in application crash can be overwritten as a result of this. (2011-11-15 11:30:35 EST) The Red Hat Security Response Team does not consider this to be a security issue. For additional information, refer to: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=749324#c1. I believe this indicate that when the function is working on memory blocks from the heap, there will always be spare room and no overwriting will take place. That leave on stack space, which I guess rarely are used for random UTF-8 strings. Perhaps this issue isn't really a security problem and the severity should be reduced? -- Happy hacking Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#648941: /usr/lib/sm.bin/mail.local: Uses flock, not fcntl
Package: sendmail-bin Version: 8.14.3-9.4 Severity: serious File: /usr/lib/sm.bin/mail.local Justification: Policy 11.6 Using strace I see that mail.local uses flock: open("/var/mail/psz", O_WRONLY|O_APPEND) = 4 flock(4, LOCK_EX) = 0 (as well as a /var/mail/psz.lock file). This is against Debian policy: looking in http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-customized-programs.html#s-mail-transport-agents I see "... fcntl() locking must be ...". Curiously, mail.local accesses (but does not use?) /usr/lib/liblockfile.so.1 also. This bug may permit corruption of mail files, and in fact observed on rare occasions. Bug#648754: [regression] suspend is flakey, "shutdown -h now" does not power off
Hello Jonathan Thanks a lot for your advices. Before I report upstream, here are some answers to your questions. Hmm. Someone else reported trouble on a Compal laptop a short while ago upstream[1]. [1] http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.acpi.devel/50155 I had not found this one. Thanks. I will also contact this guy directly. I don't suspect it will change anything, but could you test with pci=nocrs on the kernel command line? No change, except from the comment in the log. I'll leave interpreting ACPI tables to the experts. Next time, please use attachments instead of copy+paste. I'm sorry for that. Hm, interesting. Does pcie_aspm=off on the newer kernels make a difference? (I don't think it will, but seems worth a try.) No. Because I'm incredibly lazy: can you check if this is the same as the acpidump from the system that doesn't work (3.x)? I did some diffs. Interesting summary: All acpidump obtained from non-working kernels are identical. There is a difference between the acpidump when the power off is working and when it does not work: $ diff acpidump-not-working acpidump-working 2805a2806,2813 > RSDT @ 0xaf7fe0ac > : 52 53 44 54 58 00 00 00 01 8a 49 4e 53 59 44 45 RSDTX.INSYDE > 0010: 48 52 20 43 52 42 20 20 01 00 00 00 20 20 20 20 HR CRB > 0020: 13 00 00 01 00 c0 7f af 00 d0 7f af 00 b0 7f af > 0030: 00 a0 7f af 00 90 7f af 00 f0 7e af 00 e0 7e af ..~...~. > 0040: 00 d0 7e af 00 b0 7e af 00 80 7e af 00 70 7e af ..~...~...~..p~. > 0050: 00 60 7e af 00 50 7e af .`~..P~. > Next step: upstream report Thanks again for your time. This is not a bug in liblocale-gettext-perl. It bites use every time that we upgrade to a perl version with an incompatible ABI. See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=479681 for more explanation. I just filed the bug against doc-base because one should not rely on Locale::gettext in maintainer scripts if we want those maintainer scripts to work during upgrades... Looking further the maintainer already did the right thing (that's why liblocale-gettext-perl is also not listed in the Depends field of doc-base) except it needs the environment variable to disable lazy bind, otherwise the error is not caught at load time but triggered at run-time. Bug#648945: “default applications” should have their own entry or “system info” should be renamed
Package: gnome-control-center Version: 1:3.2.2-1 Severity: wishlist -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Hello. The default applications (web browser, email agent, etc.) are currently set up, from the control center, by following the entry “System Info”. I do not think this is appropriate since: * it is obviously not a system /information/ but a setting; * it is counter-intuitive, making these settings hard to find. I think it would be better to have a dedicated entry for that, or at least to rename “System Info” to something like “System settings”: although it would mean almost nothing, at least it would not give that impression of read-only and would allow people to have a chance to look in it when trying very hard to configure their default applications. Bug#619636: Clutter is not working properly with mesa software rendering
retitle 619636 Clutter is not working properly with mesa software rendering thanks Hi, According to upstream this is a known issue and due to the software rasterizer in mesa. The only way here is, for now, to use proper hardware acceleration. The long term solution is to switch to llvmpipe in debian to make it work for people that cannot get hardware acceleration. Bug#648948: uptimed: FTBFS on hurd-i386: add support for GNU
Package: uptimed Version: 0.3.16-3.2 Severity: important Tags: patch User: debian-h...@lists.debian.org Usertags: hurd Hi, The attached patch fixes the FTBFS problems of uptimed on GNU/Hurd, adding support for the GNU platform. The NOFILE parameter is obsolete even on GNU/Linux. >From /usr/include/i386-linux-gnu/sys/param.h: /* The following are not really correct but it is a value we used for a long time and which seems to be usable. Bug#648949: dspam metadata files in /var/spool are not cleaned correctly
Package: dspam Version: 3.6.8-9 Severity: important This bug was previously reported (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=522950) and is unresolved. A cronjob is installed with dspam but it does not clean if the storage driver is 'hash'. Previous advice in the archived bug suggested trying dspam_maintenance.sh, which is distributed by the upstream. I have now tested this and it works successfully, once the correct paths are set at the start of the script. This is still running on my machine and so far I have 1GB disk space back, which is not insignificant. I suggest that dspam_maintenance.sh is shipped as part of the standard package and run instead of the current cronjob. -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.9 APT prefers oldstable APT policy: (500, 'oldstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32.26-kvm-i386-20101122 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages dspam depends on: ii libc6 2.7-18lenny7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdspam7 3.6.8-9 DSPAM is a scalable and statistica ii libldap-2.4-2 2.4.11-1+lenny2.1 OpenLDAP libraries ii procmail 3.22-16 Versatile e-mail processor Versions of packages dspam recommends: ii clamav-daemon 0.97.3+dfsg-1~lenny1 anti-virus utility for Unix - scan ii dspam-doc 3.6.8-9 Documentation for dspam dspam suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#633797: copyright-format: "with exception" underspecified
* Steve Langasek , 2011-11-15, 18:08: Is there a concrete example where we need to support multiple exceptions? If not, I propose to follow and document the current practice, which is to support only one. This has the advantage that it will not be needed to implement new functions in parsers, nor to correct copyright files. I have no objection to this for 1.0, provided we at the same time clarify that if more than one exception is in use, you need to use a custom shortname instead of an ORed or ANDed list of licenses. Bug#648950: pgplot5: loses inter-library linkage when built with ld that defaults to --as-needed
Package: pgplot5 Version: 5.2.2-17 Severity: important Tags: patch User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com Usertags: origin-ubuntu ubuntu-patch oneiric When built with a linker that defaults to --as-needed, libpgplot.so and libcpgplot.so lose their inter-library linkage. (I noticed this when ifeffit failed to build on Ubuntu.) This is because of incorrect link ordering when linking shared libraries: it puts libraries before the objects that use them rather than after, so the DT_NEEDED entries are discarded because the linker hasn't yet seen references to them. See: http://wiki.debian.org/ToolChain/DSOLinking#Only_link_with_needed_libraries The following patch fixes this. * Fix link order so that inter-library linkage of libpgplot.so and libcpgplot.so is recorded correctly with 'ld --as-needed'. diff -u pgplot5-5.2.2/makemake pgplot5-5.2.2/makemake --- pgplot5-5.2.2/makemake +++ pgplot5-5.2.2/makemake @@ -669,6 +669,7 @@ # libraries when they link their executables. # SHARED_LIB_LIBS=$SHARED_LIB_LIBS +SHARED_LIB_CPGPLOT_LIBS=$SHARED_LIB_CPGPLOT_LIBS # # Ranlib command if required # @@ -1069,7 +1070,7 @@ ./pgbind $(PGBIND_FLAGS) -w $(PG_SOURCE) $(CCOMPL) -c $(CFLAGC) cpg*.c rm -f cpg*.c - $(SHARED_LD) $(SHARED_LD_CPGPLOT_OPTS) cpg*.o + $(SHARED_LD) $(SHARED_LD_CPGPLOT_OPTS) cpg*.o $(SHARED_LIB_CPGPLOT_LIBS) rm -f cpg*.o cpgdemo: cpgplot.h $(SRC)/cpg/cpgdemo.c libcpgplot.a diff -u pgplot5-5.2.2/debian/g77_gcc.conf.debian pgplot5-5.2.2/debian/g77_gcc.conf.debian --- pgplot5-5.2.2/debian/g77_gcc.conf.debian +++ pgplot5-5.2.2/debian/g77_gcc.conf.debian @@ -108,9 +108,9 @@ # Optional: Needed if SHARED_LIB is set. # How to create a shared library from a trailing list of object files. - SHARED_LD_PGPLOT_OPTS="-o $SHARED_LIB -Wl,-soname,libpgplot.so.\$(VM) -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lpng -lc -lgfortran" + SHARED_LD_PGPLOT_OPTS="-o $SHARED_LIB -Wl,-soname,libpgplot.so.\$(VM)" - SHARED_LD_CPGPLOT_OPTS="-o libcpgplot.so -Wl,-soname,libcpgplot.so.\$(VM) -L. -lpgplot" + SHARED_LD_CPGPLOT_OPTS="-o libcpgplot.so -Wl,-soname,libcpgplot.so.\$(VM)" SHARED_LD="gfortran -shared" @@ -121,7 +121,9 @@ # library-specification flags used to specify these libraries to # $SHARED_LD - SHARED_LIB_LIBS="" + SHARED_LIB_LIBS="-L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lpng -lc -lgfortran" + + SHARED_LIB_CPGPLOT_LIBS="-L. -lpgplot" # Optional: # Compiler name used on Next systems to compile objective-C files. Bug#648951: ahven: Should not provide a "versionned" -dev package
Source: ahven Version: 2.1-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi, For a reason I can't understand, ahven build a "versioned" -dev package: there is libahven1-dev in stable; libahven2-dev in testing and libahven3-dev in unstable, while each one is built from the same "ahven" source. This creates conflicts problems (#646927), transition problems (as libahven2-dev is now "out-of-date" with regards to transitions as it doesn't exist in unstable) and forces the maintainers to go through the NEW queue for each new upload. Bug#648155: Patch to make nfs4 return EKEYEXPIRED to user code
This patch (for 3.1-rc10, probably works for all versions that have this problem) makes nfs4 return the EKEYEXPIRED to user level, which works well with nfs4 mounted home directories on user systems. The normal case will be that the workstation screen will be locked when the ticket expires, the user will enter her password and a new ticket will be granted. Bug#648953: xen-tools: xen-create-image --dir option handles relative path incorrectly
Package: xen-tools Version: 4.2.1-1 Severity: normal Hi, when executing something like: xen-create-image --hostname=vm01 --dir=. [...] then the images will be created in the right place (the current working directory) but the config file will contain the "disk" option with a relative path as well and hence, xm will not find the image. In the example above, the following entry in the domu config would be created: disk = [ 'file:./domains/vm01/disk.img,xvda1,w', ] So probably either giving a relative path to the --dir option should not be allowed or it should be converted to an absolute path for the domu config entry? Bug#642640: libaws: FTBFS: unsatisfiable build-dependencies

I'm asking because while going through the RC bugs list, I fell on the src:ahven package (and its #642612 and #646927 RC bugs), that build-depends on the versionned gnat-4.4 (fix uploaded to DELAYED/2, review appreciated…). Then I saw that libalog had similar problems, but it build-depends on libaws2.7- dev, itself depending on the versionned gnat-4.4, hence forbidding an NMU of libalog. Are the packages going to be migrated to "unversionned" gnat versions or should NMUers go to "versionned" gnat-4.6 ? Bug#648960: medit lost standard hotkeys
Package: medit Version: 1.0.3-1+b1 (Using debian/sid via aptosid) Many medit hotkeys do not work anymore. Package: comixcursors-righthanded Version: 0.7.2-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, I was installing the cursor theme package and I am using the update- alternatives approach for choosing my cursor theme. However during install of the package the themes are not added to the list of alternatives. Bug#645811: inux-image-3.0.0-2-686-pae: lirc_serial spuriously claims assigned port and irq to be in use
Ben, So when you got the configuration right the driver still failed, because the IRQ was already allocated. the funny thing is: the lirc_serial driver *does* work when share_irq=1 is added to the parameters specified in /etc/modprobe.d/lirc_serial.conf. At least, I can now happily use my remote control to navigate through MythTV. If you like, I can send you the dmesg ouput of the now working configuration (but not before tomorrow night, I'm afraid). Bug#648967: RFP: yawl -- a BPM/Workflow system
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: yawl Version : 2.2.01 Upstream Author : Arthur ter Hofstede * URL : http://www.yawlfoundation.org/ * License : LGPL Programming Lang: Java Description : a BPM/Workflow system YAWL is a Java-based BPM/Workflow Management System. Based on a concise and powerful modelling language, YAWL supports complex data, integration with organizational resources and external applications, process verification and process configuration. YAWL offers the following distinctive features: * YAWL offers comprehensive support for the control-flow patterns. It is the most powerful process specification language for capturing control-flow dependencies. * The data perspective in YAWL is captured through the use of XML Schema, XPath and XQuery. * YAWL offers comprehensive support for the resource patterns. It is the most powerful process specification language for capturing resourcing requirements. * YAWL has a proper formal foundation. This makes its specifications unambiguous and automated verification becomes possible (YAWL offers two distinct approaches to verification, one based on Reset nets, the other based on transition invariants through the WofYAWL editor plug-in). * YAWL has been developed independent from any commercial interests. It simply aims to be the most powerful language for process specification. For its expressiveness, YAWL offers relatively few constructs (compare this e.g. to BPMN!). * YAWL offers unique support for exception handling, both those that were and those that were not anticipated at design time. * YAWL offers unique support for dynamic workflow through the Worklets approach. Workflows can thus evolve over time to meet new and changing requirements. * YAWL aims to be straightforward to deploy. It offers a number of automatic installers and an intuitive graphical design environment. * Through the BPMN2YAWL component, BPMN models can be mapped to the YAWL environment for execution. * The Declare component (released through declare.sf.net) provides unique support for specifying workflows in terms of constraints. This approach can be combined with the Worklet approach thus providing very powerful flexibility support. * YAWL's architecture is Service-oriented and hence one can replace existing components with one's own or extend the environment with newly developed components. * The YAWL environments supports the automated generation of forms. This is particularly useful for rapid prototyping purposes. * Tasks in YAWL can be mapped to human participants, Web Services, external applications or to Java classes. * Through the C-YAWL approach a theory has been developed for the configuration of YAWL models. For more information on process configuration visit www.processconfiguration.com. * Simulation support is offered through a link with the ProM (www.processmining.org) environment. Through this environment it is also possible to conduct post-execution analysis of YAWL processes (e.g. in order to identify bottlenecks). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Package: boinc-manager Version: 6.13.12+dfsg-1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, today I tried boincmgr the first time after the upgrade to GNOME 3. All I see in the top row is a lonely "D" for "Datei", the german localization of "File". Bug#648704: libpam-encfs does not read encfs's stderr

That's why we can't have any information from syslog, except > that message: > > pam_encfs[11974]: exitcode : 1, errorstring : Thanks for looking at this. I see login from a console the major source of information about login problems. However, I agree that auth.log line is not informative about the problem or how to look at it. I have opened an issue upstream about this, http://code.google.com/p/pam-encfs/issues/detail?id=7 to know upstream POV > This little patch copy stderr on stdout, verbose mode has to be disable as > pam-encfs will only read 512 characters from encfs output. Note that this has some drawbacks, - encfs verbose mode needs to be disabled. - Since STDERR is captured no info is shown at all when trying to login from a console. I consider the info shown when login from a console the major source of information in case of problems, so I am not happy with this way. As a fallback I proposed upstream to use something like errorstring : Login failure. Login from a console to see more info. Bug#648968: looks similar to ubuntu bug #662077
Looks like boinc-manager depends on wxwidgets for menus and stuff. I found this Ubuntu bug report that might be related, about a similar problem in wxwidgets: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wxwidgets2.8/+bug/662077 Seems like that problem was fixed in the ubuntu version of wxwidgets 2.8.11.0-0ubuntu7, dunno if that fix made it upstream and/or into Debian. Otherwise I > will assume you have lost interest and orphan your package (with > intend to remove it). I am still interested, and am aware of the bugs. Just got swamped under with other stuff. The bugs themselves don't sound too scary, but the last time I had a stab at this some other issue around the embedded libbulletml turned up which is a bit more difficult to solve. Of course you are right, this should have been sorted out a while ago, I'll have another look this week. that said: if anyone fancies stealing noiz2sa, I wouldn't object cu robert -- Robert Lemmen http://www.semistable.com signature.asc Description: Digital signature
