Bug#609752: gnus: sieve-manage.el still using old sieve port
Package: emacs23 Version: 23.2+1-7 Severity: normal sieve-manage.el still uses port 2000 as the default port to manage sieve scripts, instead of the correct port (4190). Attached a patch against the current Sid package source to set sieve-manage-default-port to 4190. Replacing 0.94.dfsg.2-1lenny2 with 0.96.5+dfsg-1~volatile1 breaks clamscan integration with amavis, thus the problem exists in that package (according to volatile repository characteristics). Bug#603063: Kdevelop crash (probably) when there are multiple sessions
Hi, Just wanted to add another reason to move to the new upstream 4.1 version. When I open two sessions in kdevelop, sometimes one of them crashes (usually not the one I'm typing in, but the other one). I filed a bug report using kdevelop's crash reporter and one of the developers suggest moving to kdevelop 4.1 to see if the problem is fixed: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=262841 I realize crashing is perhaps more serious than a "wishlist", but I know moving to 4.1 takes a lot of effort and in the end, may not even solve my problem... Bug#589218: also hit by this bug
Hi! I've been also hit by this bug and saw the forwarding that Christian did upstream and I'm afraid that if upstream didn't look at our bug they may not be getting the spirit of it. In fact, upstream bugtrack shows Jeff Layton asking: I suppose we could disallow this somehow, but *should* we? Is this specifically disallowed? I don't see a problem in mount.cifs allowing to mount the same share on the same mountpoint other than "mount -a" mounting things several times. In fact, I used to relly on "mount -a" exit status to know if I have everything mounted or not, and with this bug you cannot issue a "mount -a" as you'll get all the cifs shares mounted again. I think we should try to clarify this with upstream, if they want to allow this behaviour maybe an option that could be used on fstab to disallow this would be a good idea. How difficult is > it to set up a temporary home directory before starting the build and > wipe it after (and save many maintainers the job)? Would there be some > negative effects? Well the buildd do not have home for the building user, only the above mounts shown. One further reason apart the safety reasons, to have this way is to avoid that building user may use already present configuration influenting the build or testing (as an example). The solution you propose to have the buildd's set first a temporary home directory may work indeed, but has to be implemented there. Fortunately most of our packages are arch:all packages, so the builds are workaroundable (thus the Release Team decided to allow them to be squeeze-ignore, but even with that seen as RC bugs, see reply from Julien from Release Team yesterday). Cyril Brulebois (12/01/2011): > thanks for the backtrace. Can you attach “bt full”'s output, or > confirm that buts is NULL in frame #0? Or you could fetch the source of xorg-server …-10 or …-11 (from sid, uploaded a few hours ago, which shouldn't change anything for this specific issue), and apply the attached patch on top of it, and tell us if that helps. To apply it, either patch -p1 < foo, then build; or drop it under debian/patches and add the filename to debian/patches/series, then build. It doesn't seem to conflict with anything we have currently. KiBi. From 8c01332a34b9f6a66fa6720e52b06c192fa4c049 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Peter Hutterer Date: Fri, 3 Sep 2010 11:54:41 +1000 Subject: [PATCH] mi: handle DGA subtypes when determining the master device. The subtype in the DGA event is the core type and all ET_ event types (where applicable) are identical to the core types. Thus the switch statement below will work as required and assign the right master device. Fixes a crasher bug on keyboard devices with valuators. If a device sends a motion event while grabbed and a DGA client is active (but has not selected input through DGA), the valuator event is posted through the VCK and eventually results in a NULL-pointer dereference on dev->valuator. Note that your patch was/is in direct violation of the comment just above those defines ("elaborate games with platform-specific endianness headers", which would, of course, include these glibc-specific endianness definitions), and upstream has rejected such patches in the past (sometimes condescendingly). Remember that it is supposed to be possible to build SimGear/FlightGear on FreeBSD, Windows, MacOS, and other systems which don't use glibc, so you *can not possibly* "clean up" by relying on a glibc-specific feature. If you're going to submit patches to upstream, you're probably better off following their preferred practice, as you're unlikely to be able to change their minds. (It would be possible to make something similar a Debian-specific modification, though, if there's a good enough reason to diverge from upstream on this matter. I'd probably still prefer a patch which does not try to "clean up", though.) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#609759: clamav: clamscan crashes with error Illegal instruction (core dumped)
Package: clamav Version: 0.96.5+dfsg-1~volatile1 Severity: important Clamscan crashes when scanning a windows file (nmap-4.10-setup.exe). The copied file has been on our server since 2006, but the problem only occured recently with one of the last updates of clamav in debian lenny. The error can be repeated. Error message: Illegal instruction (core dumped) I will provide the clamscan log, the clamscan debug log, a screenshot and the file nmap-4.10-setup.exe with a second email. If really necessary and demanded, I will find a way to provide the coredump file core.9723, as it's size is uncompressesd 103M. There has been an similar bug in October 2010 under the bug reporting number 600088. Package: devscripts Version: 2.10.69 Severity: normal $ cat tmp.sh #!/bin/sh fd=2 echo "error" >&$fd $ checkbashisms tmp.sh possible bashism in tmp.sh line 3 (should be >word 2>&1): echo "error" >&$fd And similarly for: >&${fd} There was a patch from Raphael Geissert applied which fixes the similar case where there's a number instead of fd (e.g. >&$2) which autoconf uses in generated configure scripts: http://git.debian.org/?p=devscripts/devscripts.git;a=commitdiff;h=e48341562cd7b6220e817c936bf018f57efd3d2b;hp=4068bf40f060326a4027f06b8bdb63b263158817 That patch deliberately doesn't match the >&$foo case (because if $foo expands to a filename, then that is a bashism). That's also true if $2 expands to a filename of course, but that does seem much less likely in practice. Looking at the daca checkbashisms logs, there are >&$foo uses which are clearly an fd from the variable name, for example: http://qa.debian.org/daca/checkbashisms/source/sid/gnulib_20100704+stable-1.dsc } >&$ofd http://qa.debian.org/daca/checkbashisms/source/sid/git_1.7.2.3-2.2.dsc printf '%s\n' "$command${sha1:+ }$sha1${rest:+ }$rest" >&$fd But also ones where it seems likely that the variable expands to a filename, and others which where it's hard to know without looking at the script. My suggestion would be to squash the warning in the case where the variable name either starts or ends "fd" (case insensitively), which would fix several real world false positives and is unlikely to introduce any new real world false negatives. I did try to patch the regex, but couldn't get it to work easily. But if there's agreement that checking for "fd" is a sane plan, or someone has a better idea, I can try harder. So I search and find Empathy, and when I press the "Remove" button nothing happens. Nothing at all. So I then I ran it in the Terminal in case it reported any errors. While there were a lot of errors shown, I believe this one is the most relevant. Bug#609768: iceweasel: two authentication dialogs, the second one under the window
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.5.16-4 Severity: normal On http://intranet.inria.fr/ Iceweasel opens two authentication dialogs at the same time, one above the main browser window and one below. In practice, one can click "Cancel" (or authenticate) in the visible authentication dialog. Then Iceweasel appears to be frozen. But if one lowers the browser window or looks at the window list, one sees a second authentication dialog. This bug is always reproducible, even in safe mode (-safe-mode option). Still, that SIGABRT is particularly nasty. I don't think it would cost too much for anyone remotely fluent in C++ to guard the use of pkg_docid in src/generic/apt/matching/match.cc to ensure it doesn't crash so badly. (Being able to install and actually use aptitude on low-CPU machines is quite nice, and last I checked, update-apt-xapian-index was killing both my disk and my CPU on an iBook, for several minutes of joy.) Bug#608715: Recent hardware components render the xen-hyervisor unusable, fails completeley to boot due to kernel panic)
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I have some updates to note. It turned out that a more recent 4.0.2-rc1-pre hypervisor is not affected by this issue [1]. Since Squeeze is already frozen you probably want to backport the fix if anything. Hence I asked Xen developers for support to dig the exact change set that is responsible for fixing this problem. It indeed happens under sid for me, but not under current Ubuntu natty (with the very same calibre package), so I suspect this is a problem in Qt or PyQt somewhere. sid has pyqt 4.7.3, natty 4.8.1. Bug#598957: What are the chances for a one-line-patch for a non-RC bug to still get into squeeze?
Hi, mdadm has got a bug[1] which makes it send unnecessary mail every month. The maintainer thinks[3], that it's too late for squeeze now. Is he right, or would there be a realistic chance to get this really small, yet very useful patch still into squeeze? Bug#609623: dictionaries-common: ispell.el creates broken menu entry for "Kill Process"
severity 609623 grave thanks Justification: Can block XEmacs causing (unsaved) data loss On Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 10:38:50AM -0800, Steve VanDevender wrote: > Unfortunately that's not how that menu list works; the additional items > after the function entry for the menu item are not arguments to be > passed to the function, but parameters that control the display and > behavior of that menu item in the menu-handling code. Confirmed now. Seems I wrote code too fast, and other bug was hiding it for me (and seems that also for most users), see below. > See the XEmacs lispref node for "Menus" for more information on how > pull-down menus are specified in XEmacs. There may be a way to do this > with some of the optional name-value pairs that are allowed in menu > specifiers, but simply putting 'clear in the list is not valid and > throws an error when that menu is installed. I think I now have an idea about what is happening and about what has been hiding this problem all this time. The real thing is that with current code, the buggy menu entry is usually overriden by that in "debian-ispell.el", which was unchanged, and so, did not cause the problem (nor made sure session localwords were removed). Menu setting in "debian-ispell.el" is added to eval-after-load ispell, so it overrides that one in ispell.el and bug is hidden. However, if ispell is loaded a second time, XEmacs considers the function as already loaded and does nothing (this seems to be a different behavior than for FSF Enacs), resulting in ispell.el menu being used and the bug triggered. Trivial way to reproduce this: make sure ispell.el is loaded twice and proceed. I am raising this bug's severity, because this can cause XEmacs blocking and loss of unsaved data. I thought I had reports from our (Debian Eee PC's) users that this worked with beta2, so I'm not sure using the latest snapshot would make anything better. See my earlier link to notes in our wiki on 1215P, as there are specific suggestions there as to what needs to be done to make it work: including specifying acpi_osi="Linux" boot parameter, and the firmware is apparently necessary to make *both* wifi and ethernet work. This might be another manifestation of #573607 which unfortunately would need yet another exception made to disable hotplugging for that specific model# (not a great solution because new models keep coming out, requiring an exception to be made for each one). If that's the case, ultimately the solution is to replace eeepc_laptop with eeepc_wmi. I worked with upstream testing a backport he made for 2.6.32 but there are so many things that this would break at this point (plus it requires a patch to the acpi module to even work) that it's kind of too late to think about including this in Squeeze. :( > On 11 January 2011 19:51, Lennart Sorensen > wrote: >> I just spotted this: >> >> 2.6.32-28 changelog: >> >> * atl1c: Add support for Atheros AR8151 and AR8152 (Closes: #599771) >> >> Did you use the latest installer snapshot, or the beta2 or what? >> >> Certainly the version in the current images you can download for beta2 >> have the new version of the driver for the atl1c and should work. >> Anything older than December 20th will not work for sure. Bug#609255: KDE upgrading
It happened to me upgrading my first kde desktop today, which resulted in a completely not working KDE enviroment: after logging in, a scrambled desktop background appeared and nothing else. Of course, I did a whole upgrading, because that (multi-user) desktop had many different desktop environments installed and I did not put on hold kde 3.5 packages, because it was pointless for me. I would add a big WARNING for users at upgrading time about that. I got a working environment by installing 'kde-full' after completing the whole dist upgrade. Maybe, this is not evidenti enough by current release notes, I would stress the following concepts: - The KDE env will be *ruined and unusable* just after a plain dist-upgrade. - Installing kde-full or kde-standard is *mandatory* and it should happen just after upgrading. -- Francesco P. Bug#609786: libc6: getaddrinfo() incorrectly handles nss failures
Package: libc6 Version: 2.7-18lenny6 Severity: important Hello, On a 64-bit system, using 32-bit programs that uses getaddrinfo to resolve dns names will fail in default configuration. this is caused by an incorrect handling of nss errors. The delfault nsswitch.conf for host is: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 But libnss_mdns4_minimal.so.2 is not included in ia32-libs, so getaddrinfo cannot load it (see strace log below). This would not be an serious problem if it did not return a NOTFOUND instead of an UNAVAIL, (as the service is unavailable, and you cannot say if the record exists or not). UNAVAIL has a 'continue' default action, but NOTFOUND has a 'return' one ; so getaddrinfo() returns with a 'Name or service not known' Setting NOTFOUND to its default 'continue' action allows getaddrinfo() to fallback to dns methods, and effectively resolving name. - I think returning NOTFOUND when you cannot load the nss library is an error (UNAVAIL should be better) - ia32-libs should include libnss_mdns4_minimal.so.2, as mdns_minimal is configured by default Thanks, Bastien Durel -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0.7 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32.3-grsec-ipsec-std-ipv6-64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libc6 depends on: ii libgcc1 1:4.3.2-1.1 GCC support library libc6 recommends no packages.
