Maybe that apt error message should not say for how many days it's been
invalid, but at which date it has expired?

Or it could say both (expired 2010-09-30 (20d 13h ..ago).

It could also ask the user if their clock is right.

Bug#597804: gkrellm-leds: gkrellm crashes when clicking caps-lock button

2010-09-23 Thread Marco Herrn
Package: gkrellm-leds
Version: 0.8.0-1.2
Severity: normal

When clicking the caps-lock button of gkrellm-leds, gkrellm crashes with
the following message:

The program 'gkrellm' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 2218 error_code 2 request_code 145 minor_code 2)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I have remapped the caps-lock key to the compose-key in xorg by setting the
following option in the "InputDevice" section of xorg.conf:

Option "XkbOptions""compose:caps"

Maybe it has something to do with that.

Regards
Marco

Bug#444150: am not sure

2010-09-23 Thread Tshepang Lekhonkhobe
Hi,

* There's already "wajig {remove,purge}-depend" for "apt-get
{remove|purge} --autoremove". I'm not sure about making auto-remove
default. It does make sense but it's non-standard behaviour.
* The same argument for non-standard behaviour applies to "wajig
{remove,purge}-orphans". It currently does "sudo apt-get
{remove, purge} orphaned_pkg1 ...", and I suppose you want it to be
"sudo apt-get {remove,purge} --auto-remove orphaned_pkg1 ..."?

Graham, what are your thoughts?

Same here, with a NVidia 9600M. When failing, syslog shows

Sep 23 08:58:51 gonzo kdm[1694]: X server for display :0 cannot be
started, session disabled

whereas X is starting just fine.

Sometimes the machine starts just fast enough, and starts into kdm, and
sometimes it is not. This leads to unpredictable behavior.

Why don't you use the current driver? It works perfectly on my T61 with an
identical GPU.

When switching the drivers, please first *purge* all legacy-173xx packages. If
this fails, update the legacy-173xx packages to 173.14.27-1 (currently in
unstable) and *purge* them afterwards. (Purging the packages ensures no
broken maintainer scripts from old versions remain on your system that may
cause trouble later on.)
Then install nvidia-glx etc. 195.36.31-3 from unstable.

This message is printed by iconv when data is sent for conversion on
stdin, and stdout is suddenly closed. This is not a problem of iconv,
thus reassigning the bug to man-db.

Bug#597805: tsocks: Would be good to have a CLI switch to export LD_PRELOAD

2010-09-23 Thread Dallas E. Legan
Package: tsocks
Version: 1.8beta5-9.1
Severity: wishlist

I use ckermit as a wrapper interface for ssh, and find that
I need to export LD_PRELOAD to have ssh socksified in this
environment. Also in some cases run lynx, w3m etc. under
script control of ckermit (others might use expect, etc. for this)
and here also this is needed.
No big deal, but it would be good to have a switch to tsocks
so that it could take care of this, simplifying slightly
the use of tsocks.

The binary packages that you generate cannot be rebuilt if the files you
download vanish (be it the mirror going offline, or the files being
removed from the Debian archive altogether), even though all
build-dependencies are satisfied. This way, Debian would distribute
binaries without sources... how can this be right?

The scripts used to extract the files are the actual source.

You should wait for multiarch or contribute in this direction, rather
than hack something to work around current known limitations.

2010-09-23 Thread Christoph Dwertmann
Package: ejabberd
Version: 2.1.5-1
Severity: normal

Debconf asks me to enter "the hostname" of my XMPP server, although ejabberd
can handle multiple hostnames. If I specify a comma-separated list of them
(such as 'example.net,example.com,example.org'), my entry is not formatted
correctly in the ejabberd.cfg. It should look like '["example.net",
"example.com", "example.org"]', but it is inserted as
'["example.net,example.com,example.org"]'.

It would also be good if the dialog box would advise the user how to enter

Certainly not. At the very least you have to use fseeko/ftello/off_t.

In any event, as stated in Build, the relevant declarations in TeX are

2010-09-23 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
package hylafax-server
severity 518474 wishlist

thanks

These two bugs both ask for more configurability of hylafax cron jobs,
so I am merging them.

Bug#597807: sendmail: m4 sanity checking file_check macro (source included)

2010-09-23 Thread Patrick Haller
Package: sendmail
Version: 8.14.3-5+lenny1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

We should add more sanity checking to our sendmail configs. Here's two macros
that cause a sendmail config build to fail with a usable error when a file
or directory goes missing:

dnl sanity checking macros

define(`fatal_error', `
errprint(__line__`: fatal error: $*
')
m4exit(`1')
')
define(`file_check', `
syscmd(`ls $1 >/dev/null ')
ifelse(sysval, `0', `', `fatal_error(`file not found "$1" for $2')' )
')

file_check(QUEUE_DIR, `QUEUE_DIR')
dnl end sanity

Patrick

Bug#402961: hylafax-server: faxsetup should try default values if setup.cache is mis-configured

2010-09-23 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
Hy Bodo,
with latest hylafax upload, I forced hylafax to user /usr/bin/awk since
all scripts have already been converted in order to work with mawk, gawk
and nawk.

Anyway, I am unsure if this will change the behaviour you found. Could
you please check it?

Thanks,

Not me though. And, I needn't start X at all, and before long the entire

So, now (after #594553) it is clear that the assumption in the first post of
this bug (#593933) were wrong and only pkg-config was missing. So back to
whishlist for aqbanking 5 support - which the next release of kmymoney will
have. Or to be more precise: it will be aqbanking 5 only thanks to the patch
inside the attached patch.

So lets hope that the libgwenhyvfar will then search in the right path for the
aqbanking dialogs.

Bug#597815: lm-sensors: Should detect whether the kernel supports the detected chip

2010-09-23 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: lm-sensors
Version: 1:3.1.2-6
Severity: wishlist

I installed lm-sensors on a fresh squeeze install, with a 2.6.32 kernel.
sensors-detect tells me the following:
  Driver `f71882fg':
* ISA bus, address 0xa00
Chip `Fintek F71889FG Super IO Sensors' (confidence: 9)

To load everything that is needed, add this to /etc/modules:
  #cut here
  # Chip drivers
  f71882fg
  #cut here

Unfortunately, loading the given driver fails:
[6.699840] f71882fg: Unsupported Fintek device

Looking at the linux kernel source, it appears the device support was
added to the kernel between 2.6.32 and 2.6.33, and thus is not
supported by the debian stock kernel.

It would be useful if sensors-detect would try to load the module
already and issue a message when it doesn't work.

Every other boot I don't have internet access, eth0 doesn't get an ip address
assigned from the dhcp server. ifdown eth0 / ifup eth0 doens't work either.
When I reboot everything works again. I have installed several distro's on this
pc which didn't have this problems. I think the problem is with my Realtek
network card.

Bug#587007: salome: Porting patches to Salome 5.1.4 for upstream inclusion

I have enclosed in the 'salome-packaging-0.2.tar.gz' archive the patches
updated to the 5.1.4 version for the KERNEL, GUI, GEOM, MED, SMESH and
VISU modules. Once I get your agreement, I plan to send that archive to
upstream because I am around half way of the porting task, with around
50 patches on 100. Moreover most of the essential modules are working.
My concern is now to know which kind of patches are going to be accepted
before continuing.

The patches come with a documentation explaining briefly their
meaning. Then the steps on how to build and run every module on Debian
sid are described. I did not use the tools in the Debian packaging
system (debian/rules, fakeroot, git-buildpackage, quilt) in order to
ease the review process. Instead, I imitate the building process
by listing commands. By that way, I hope that it will be possible
to discuss with upstream on a specific point by directly using
the commands provided by their build system.

I am open on any of your feedback concerning patches or documentation.
Beyond getting the current patches merged into upstream code, my goal is
to find how to submit changes that can gain acceptance.

All the best,

André

Bug#552382: hylafax-server: ps2fax fails with "GPL Ghostscript 8.62: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1"

2010-09-23 Thread Giuseppe Sacco
reassign 552382 libtiff-tools
retitle 552382 tiff2ps create broken postscript file
thanks

Hi Jay,
I am reassigning this bug from hylafax-server to libtiff-tools since the
user report a problem on a file converted with tiff2ps. I managed to
reproduce the problem using the files attached to the report.

I am not a PostScript guru, but I tried to check the generated PS with
gv, ghostscript and two different PS printers. All of them gave the same
error, so I think the problem is in the PS file generated by tiff2ps.

At the same time, the supplied tiff file seems to be correct, since I
displayed it with both gimp and java JAI.

Bye,
Giuseppe

What if you try to access the crossref URL the debug output should
print a couple lines earlier? I just disabled all other plugins and got
the same error, if I try to access the URL I get

"sys...@crossref.org none You do not have the appropriate permissions to

Oh I forgot to add this: the installed fdisk is pointless as the only
thing it can do is tell you to use parted, which supports GPT... except
parted is not installed. If the install is done on GPT, shouldn't parted
be installed (or any other fdisk equivalent supporting GPT)

Bug#597820: linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64: 2.6.32 doesn't support the f71889fg sensor chip

2010-09-23 Thread Mike Hommey
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-23
Severity: wishlist
Tags: squeeze

I installed a fresh squeeze on a new PC with a MSI P55M-GD45 motherboard
that uses a f71889fg sensor chip. Unfortunately, while lm-sensors'
sensor-detect is able to find the chip and suggest a kernel module, the
module doesn't load because it lacks support for the chip.

The support was added somewhen between 2.6.32 and 2.6.33, and was added
by commit 7669896f. I hear that you add support for hardware when the
backport is simple, this one is pretty trivial.

For other reasons, I already switched to 2.6.35 on that machine, so it's
not a problem for me anymore, but the motherboard is already quite old, so
other people may have similar problems with a fresh squeeze.

Cheers,

Mike

Bug#597821: thttpd: Please move executable to /usr/bin/

2010-09-23 Thread Ole Laursen
Package: thttpd
Version: 2.25b-11
Severity: normal

I use thttpd only for one thing - running a webserver in a terminal
temporarily for serving up some pages when I need to access them in a
browser from somewhere else, for instance when doing some development on
a remote machine without a configured webserver.

It's really simple, thttpd -D -d . -p 8080

This is however made a bit more cumbersome by the fact that thttpd is in
/usr/sbin instead of /usr/bin. Could you please move it? As long as
there is legitimate use of it from normal user accounts, I don't see
what it's doing in /usr/sbin. :)

Bug#597822: Some cyrus commands are not found by cyrus master

2010-09-23 Thread Mathieu Parent
Package: kolabd
Version: 2.2.4-20100624-3
Severity: grave

I have the following in the syslog:

Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[1264]: about to exec

Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[1264]: can't exec

Sep 13 20:23:02 netthieu cyrus/master[348]: process 1264 exited, status 71

This comes from cyrus.conf which contains basename of binaries instead of full
path.
Cyrus master is not using the $PATH env (I don't know why) and the file is not
found.

To fix this, use the absolute path as done in cyrus.conf from the
cyrus-common-2.2 package

Hi,

What you say makes sense. This functionality however does not excite
me, so please supply a patch. Please prepare it against
http://code.google.com/p/wajig/source/checkout (or latest Sid version,
if hg does not excite you).

Here's how search works:

"wajig search search_term" searches only pkg names
"wajig -v search search_term" searches both pkg names and their descriptions

and the future:
"wajig -vv search search_term" searches pkg names, their descriptions,
and (r)dependency info --> your patch

Don't let me beat you to it ;-)

Bug#597825: joe: new syntax highlighting for mails is terrible

2010-09-23 Thread Adam Borowski
Package: joe
Version: 3.7-1
Severity: normal

The syntax highlighting for "mail" (like, when invoked from mutt) is
abysmal. The worst part is, any quoted parts except the first are displayed
in nigh-unreadable green on light gray, even on regular white on black
terminals.

Then, some random parts also change color out of a sudden. For example, if
the very first line of the text starts with "Ouch, indeed.", the comma and
everything after it will be in bright red -- but if that very same line occurs
later, it is unchanged.

Yes, _this_ patch :) (Which I think would be fine for squeeze.)

Another option, which I would also think would be fine for squeeze, would
default to use the squeeze syntax but also allow to query ejabberd with the
lenny syntax, via plugin configuration (defaulting the squeeze syntax).

But as said, I'm equally fine with the simple approach.

Bug#597811: referencer: DOI metadata look-up failes

Hi,

for some time now the DOI-based metadata look up fails. This is probably
related to the following lines referencer writer to stdout:

" CrossRefParser: Parse Error!
virtual bool CrossRefPlugin::resolve(Document&):
Markuperror while parsing:"

What if you try to access the crossref URL the debug output should
print a couple lines earlier? I just disabled all other plugins and got
the same error, if I try to access the URL I get

"sys...@crossref.org none You do not have the appropriate permissions to
perform a DOI query"

I can verify that.

Bug#597827: gnome depends on software-center, WTF?

2010-09-23 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: gnome
Version: 1:2.30+3
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

is it really necessary to have gnome *depend* on software center? Honestly, I
find it awefull and not very Debian-like (whatever that means, it's just a
feeling to me).

I mean, we already have synaptic installed and all this update-notifier and
-manager stuff. Furthermore, software-center depends on the bloated app-
install-data package. So please, could you move it to Recommends at least?

While we are at it, I think that update-manager, software-properties-gtk and
software-center do all provide redundant functionality with respect to
synaptic.

Fixed libedit has been uploaded to sid, so is gnuplot time now.

Attached patch should fix this problem and make sure good minimal value is
used in shlibs. In case is needed, I have an NMU ready. Bradley, let me know
if you prefer me to upload that NMU.

To be honest, I have no idea what happens, it seems that's the first
time I hear that problem. Try to check in .xsession-errors when doing
that, to check something fishy isn't going on? Try with a fresh user
too, in case something else in the config is interfering?

Bug#597829: libqt4-dev: Should use variables in .pc files for all paths

2010-09-23 Thread Simon Richter
Package: libqt4-dev
Version: 4:4.6.3-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

while cross-compiling a Qt application, I stumbled over an incorrectly
converted .pc file. The dpkg-cross tool can convert .pc files from a
separate architecture, but will only change paths in the variable
definition section.

QtCore.pc contains:

Libs.private: -L/usr/lib -L/usr/lib -lfontconfig -lpthread -lz -lm -ldl
-pthread -lgthread-2.0 -lrt -lglib-2.0
Cflags: -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/include/qt4 -I${includedir}

The hardcoded paths pose a problem here, because these won't be changed
when the variable is adapted.

Hi!

While the man page has the correct path for policyd-spf-fs,
/usr/share/doc/postfix-policyd-spf/README has a wrong one:

user=nobody argv=/usr/local/sbin/policyd-spf-fs --debug=1

Would be nice to have the README file patched, since some users could
wrongly use this config snippet.

Thank you!

Best regards,
Nelson

Thanks for pointing to a workaround. I guess the cause of all this is
the introduction of concurrency in the startup system, having kdm being

Yeah, I thought of that too. That’s especially true of disks which have
several partitions.

However, even in such cases, I’m not sure there’s much added value in
that additional menu entry, and you should not forget that it also makes
things very confusing for users who don’t understand what mounting
means.

On Thu, Sep 23, 2010 at 12:10:01AM +0900, Nicolas Pelletier wrote:

The file /usr/share/crawl/aptitudes.txt is missing. There is a gzipped copy
in /usr/share/doc/crawl-common/aptitudes.txt.gz, but Crawl doesn't look for
it there -- both because it currently can't read gzipped data and because
programs are not supposed to source data from /usr/share/doc/. It's a bug
in the packaging.

Sadly, the Squeeze train has departed, and thus there is little point in
uploading a fix ASAP. I guess it'll be fine to wait until 0.7.2.

That's what I imagined. Don't take me wrong, I didn't assume it'd be
easy or that you'd been slacking, it just seemed like the ITP could use
a fresh and distanced look. After all, this isn't just some weekend
