Bug#592577: spec.txt.gz: Is `It also lists the DBM library this is being used' a correct English phrase?

2010-08-11 Thread Regid Ichira

Package: exim4-base
Version: 4.72-1
Severity: minor

  According to http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2010/08/msg00539.html,
the phrase `DBM library this is being used' isn't correct, linguistically.
$ zgrep -C4 'DBM library this is being used' /usr/share/doc/exim4/spec.txt.gz
-bV

This option causes Exim to write the current version number, compilation
number, and compilation date of the exim binary to the standard output. It
also lists the DBM library this is being used, the optional modules (such
as specific lookup types), the drivers that are included in the binary, and
the name of the run time configuration file that is in use.

As part of its operation, -bV causes Exim to read and syntax check its

Bug#561851: mii-tool reports the wrong speed

2010-08-11 Thread Russell Coker
# ethtool eth2|grep Speed
Speed: 100Mb/s
# mii-tool -v eth2
eth2: negotiated 1000baseT-HD flow-control, link ok
product info: Intel 82555 rev 0
  basic mode: autonegotiation enabled

  link partner: 1000baseT-HD 1000baseT-FD 100baseTx-FD 100baseTx-HD 10baseT-FD
10baseT-HD

The system on which I ran the above commands has no Gig-e ports. ethtool gets
the right answer (or at least something that seems plausible) while mii-tool
gets a bogus answer of 100baseT-HD. I've reproduced this problem with other
ports on the same system. It's a P3 desktop system running kernel linux-
image-2.6.32-5-686 version 2.6.32-18, net-tools version 1.60-23, and ethtool
2.6.34-2.

# ethtool eth2|grep Speed

The system that I used to run the above commands was an AMD64 system but
otherwise had the same versions.

# mii-tool

eth1: no link
eth2: negotiated 1000baseT-HD flow-control, link ok
crombian:~# ethtool eth2 |grep Speed
Speed: 100Mb/s

The above commands were run on another AMD64 system with the same versions.

All three systems have the same Intel E100 dual-port Ethernet cards. The
cards were purchased second-hand from the same batch and had probably been in
the same batch when new.

Actually the policy refers to the FHS which already mentions part of
what you wrote, but writing down it explicitly to accentuate this sounds
like a good idea.

[http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-opersys.html]:
| The location of all installed files and directories must comply with
| the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), version 2.3, with the
| exceptions noted below ...

[http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/fhs/fhs-2.3.html]:
| /usr, /opt, and /var are designed such that they may be located on
| other partitions or filesystems.

/var and /boot could be added to "/usr as separate file system from /".
Read-only mounting /etc seems to imply that it can also be on a separate
file system (although I never saw such a setup), so this one and maybe
others could be added too.

2010-08-11 Thread Chase Douglas
Cool. Basically, I filed the ITP bug way back before I realized that the
bcm970015 wasn't supported. It's only become supported as of about two
weeks ago, and I haven't had time to work on it. I'm not sure I will
have time in the near future either, so feel free to package it in my
stead.

Thanks,

Well, Date::Calc 6.3 solves the problem on my machine:

$ echo Oct | perl -p -e 'use Date::Calc qw(Decode_Month);
s!(\w+)!Decode_Month($1)!e'
10
$ echo Oct | env -u PERL5LIB perl -p -e 'use Date::Calc qw(Decode_Month);
s!(\w+)!Decode_Month($1)!e'
Date::Calc::Decode_Month(): argument is not a string at -e line 1, <> line 1.

See the difference when I use the CPAN version (6.3) installed in
my $HOME and when I use Debian's version.

Hmm... I see. The XS version is also provided by the Debian package,
contrary to a CPAN installation when one doesn't explicitly ask for
this XS version.

There your say that processing nulls is a gawk extension. However I
don't see it in the list of extensions of gawk manpage. It mentions
only the ability to split a string with the null string. Further, the
null string is not "\0".

My understanding is that almost all of the embedded-nulls are the same -
an extension over POSIX. Once you introduce it in one area, it gets
implied into a lot of other areas.

>...however, #355966 is unrelated to this additional report about embedded

It's related to RS, which is where I stumbled on the nulls.

Anyway, it'd be quite useful to have this in Debian. mawk is a lot
faster than gawk...

I agree.

Medhi,

Here is my reply as Nama's author.

Nama is a UI that manipulates Ecasound, an external audio
processing engine.

Ecasound has a couple different control interfaces.
libaudio-ecasound-perl offers control through a
C-library interface, libecasoundc.

A second interface is via socket to an Ecasound process
running in --server mode.

Nama supports both, using libecasoundc (via
libaudio-ecasound-perl) when available, otherwise
defaulting to Net-ECI, the socket interface.

Although the two are similar, having different code paths for
achieving the same behavior is useful for troubleshooting.

Control via libecasoundc (libaudio-ecasound-perl) has
a couple advantages that lead me to choose it as
the preferable option (therefore recommended):

* it is more mature and well tested than my naive socket programming
* the library manages the starting and killing of the
Ecasound process

There are no changes to Nama associated with the
"Recommends:" line, only the availability of a Debian
packaged version of interface module.

Joel Roth

Bug#592579: wondershaper: Passed in bandwidth values are not accurate with 2.6.32

2010-08-11 Thread Tim Small
Package: wondershaper
Version: 1.1a-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

On a system which acts as a gateway to a 3M circuit (gives
consistent/steady 3100kbps symetric throughput to a nearby host),
wondershaper needs to be passed different values in order that it limits
the throughput to approx 3100kbps (and therefore works correctly).
Trial-and-error gave these values:

/usr/sbin/wondershaper ethEXT0 2950 2350

whilst simultaneously uploading and downloading using scp. The scp
statistics, and the "detailed interface statistics" from iptraf show
throughput of around 3000kbps in both directions, and icmp round-trip
times go up by approx 10% vs an unloaded link. Lower values throttle
throughput without improving latency. Larger values result in degraded
latency, but no further improvements in throughput.

The system in question is:

Thanks, I've applied the patch to debian/control; changing patches to upstream

Unfortunately we do not have a spare ethernet card on hand. I'll try if I find

The following commit seems to be in v2.6.31-rc1, is it not sufficient to
allow correct operation on these older hypervisors? If not it would be
nice to know why.

commit e826fe1ba1563a9272345da8e3279a930ac160a7
Author: Jeremy Fitzhardinge
Date: Sat Mar 7 17:09:27 2009 -0800

xen: mask XSAVE from cpuid

Xen leaves XSAVE set in cpuid, but doesn't allow cr4.OSXSAVE
to be set. This confuses the kernel and it ends up crashing on
an xsetbv instruction.

At boot time, try to set cr4.OSXSAVE, and mask XSAVE out of
cpuid it we can't. This will produce a spurious error from Xen,
but allows us to support XSAVE if/when Xen does.

This also factors out the cpuid mask decisions to boot time.

Signed-off-by: Jeremy Fitzhardinge

The kernel can take a "noxsave" on the command line which I imagine
would also workaround the issue.

If the hypervisor is old-but-not-too-old you may also have the option of
masking the xsave bit in cpuid via the domain config file.

On the other hand as far as I can tell even xen-unstable.hg does not
support XSAVE for PV guests so any potential guest performance loss is
only theoretical in the future.

eventually switch to it, me hope :)

Currently, the packages can be built by ourselves for the latest SVN ( not

Bug#592544: [pkg-fso-maint] Bug#592544: New license

2010-08-11 Thread Steffen Möller
Hello,

this license is more liberal than the GPL. Are you linking
against anything that is purely GPLed? Then we'd need to
do some thinking. I could imagine that you could even
relicense it as it also allows the "sublicensing", but this
is beyond my legal understanding. I hope we don't need
to clarify this.

For a redistribution with Debian (this is why you ask, no?)
this is all not a problem. Debian does not require the GPL.
Debian only requires to DFSG compliance - for a
redistribution in 'main' this is. And the DFSG compliance is
just fine with this license.

Cheers,

Steffen

Hi,

These directories are not created by the debian package, but by the
prelude-admin command.
You've probably run the prelude-admin register command with the wrong
program name ...

Run prelude-admin del prelucde-correlator to remove the wrong profile,
and re-create it.

Bug#592585: maildrop: Please apply Dovecot authentication patch

2010-08-11 Thread Henry-Nicolas Tourneur
Package: maildrop
Version: 2.0.4-3+lenny3
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

Currently, if we want a Postfix setup with quota support working and that,
without recompiling, maildrop is a good solution.
However, maildrop only support the Courier software (as it is shipped within
Debian) but patches [0] for Dovecot authentication exists.

If you want enterprise class quota support (I mean, for instance, Dovecot can
deliver quota informations to Thunderbord what courier can't)
without recompiling softwares maildrop with Dovecot might be a good solution, I
found.

With that, we could support quota out of the box with quota informations in
your email client.
Could you please apply that patch to the Debian maildrop version ?

Thanks and regards,

Henry-Nicolas Tourneur

Bug#592586: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Rendering issues: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration

2010-08-11 Thread Edward Allcutt
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.12.0-1
Severity: important

This seems to be triggered by apps using accelerated video or 3d. This time
it was warzone2100 but I've seen it before with just a few terminals and a
web browser.

The first symptom is that the (fullscreen) display of the game seems to freeze.
The mouse cursor is not drawn although I can tell from audible feedback that
the game is still running and keypresses seem to have the expected effect.

I'm using the awesome window manager. Switching to another tag displays the
desktop background fine. The awesome toolbars and widgets are drawn but with
some gaps and any text is quite fuzzy as though being drawn multiple times at
slightly differing pixel offsets. At this point I can see the mouse cursor
again.

Other (less-accelerated) apps show different levels of corruption. For example,
in rxvt, the cursor and any ncurses-drawn widgets are missing, but text is for
the most part ok. xterm on the other hand appears to have no problems at all.

Switching VT and the text framebuffer console seems to work with no issues.

The included Xorg.0.log in the Package-specific info is for X after being
restarted
twice. Unfortunately the log for the original problem occurence is gone. After
restarting X once I tried to run warzone2100 again at which point X crashed. The
log for that brief session includes these lines:

Thanks, I'll look into it. I ran some further tests with vanilla and
debian kernels:

VERSION WORKING
---
2.6.35 yes
2.6.33.6yes
2.6.32.17 doesn't boot as kvm guest
2.6.32.17-2.6.32-19 no
2.6.32.17-2.6.32-18 no
2.6.32.16 no

I don't know if this is related to #16494 since I'm unable to trigger it
on 2.6.33.6 or 2.6.35. I'll test 2.6.32 with the patch from
http://lkml.org/lkml/2010/8/10/52 applied as well and bisect between
2.6.32.17 and 2.6.33.6 in the next few days.

> I also wonder whether the extremely large request sizes (rsize and

> failure in virtio_net. Please can you test whether reducing them helps?

The large rsize/wsize were automatically chosen, but I'll test with a
failing kernel and [rw]size of 32768.

Kind regards,
Lukas

Bug#592447: libdbd-sqlite3: rrdtool dbi support segfaults because of out of date upstream version

Quite not! Please have a look by yourself, libdbi-drivers version isn't
how you say it is:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/libdbi-drivers/files/

Where exactly did you find something with 0.8.3-1 as upstream version?
As much as I see, this was the case only for version 0.8.2-1 of
libdbi-drivers, but that's not the case anymore (which is a good thing).

I think you didn't look correctly, because this is exactly what I did.

If that is the case, then we don't need to release 0.8.3 right away, and
I should send this new version in the experimental repository of Debian,
considering that Squeeze is now in a frozen state.

> Either way, I think the proper thing to do is package and release 0.8.3-1

NOT in SID/Squeeze though. You guys in Ubuntu can later import the
package from Experimental.

Your diff includes things that shouldn't be there which makes them
unreadable because too big. I believe you should have kept source format
1.0 and just use interdiff to make this readable. Never mind, I've
filtered out the upstream changes. And there's a lot of issues in what
you just sent. For example:

You Build-Depends on the following, and you shouldn't have:
+mysql-server, mysql-client,
+postgresql, postgresql-client,
+locales-all | language-pack-en

My package has a lot more fixes that yours doesn't add, like calling
./autogen.sh before configure, and Build-Depends: on automake and
libtool, plus many others. Can you explain to me why exactly you wanted
to Build-Depends on locales-all | language-pack-en? That doesn't seem to
be needed, and by the way, this is Ubuntu specific, AFAIK:

http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=language-pack-en&searchon=names&suite=all§ion=all

> Note that its missing these changelog entries:
>
> * Updated to source format "3.0 (quilt)"

I don't want to use the "3.0 (quilt)" format, because when you call
./autogen.sh and ./configure, it's generating a lot of files that are in
the upstream tar file. The result being that the Debian build system
creates a useless huge patch in debian/patches, which shouldn't be
there. Using format 1.0 solves this issue without too much work.

> * Run automated tests for mysql, pgsql, sqlite, and sqlite3

I saw your tests, and I think it is a good thing to add. Could you
please provide me a patch against the version that I just sent you?

> * Add misc:Depends for debhelper lintian warnings.

Yup. Got that one in already since the beginning.

I'm not willing to be rude, but your package doesn't fit, and it has
still loads of lintian warnings. As it is right now, I can't use it, and
my package is in a much better shape. The only thing I'd like to take
from you would be the test thing (thanks a lot for that). Look at all
the lintian warnings I got when using -Ii flags:

Actually, unfortunately the fla shipped with this one doesn't include the
video player source - I got one of our Flash guys here to have a look at it
and it just contains a script that loads the precompiled video player and
adds some custom menu component. So I think this one actually needs to go
to non-free, as below...

My vote for 3. (although I guess non-free :( )

Bug#578243: patch

2010-08-11 Thread Tim Connors
Can we get this trivial patch applied? I know squeeze is frozen, but this
is a bug fix for a problem that is otherwise going to leave squeeze with
an Xserver that can't change the bell properties at all, and we've had the
patch for ages now, and it's relatively well tested.

I have personally applied the patch in the same way all other debian
patches have been applied in debian/patches, and it works. We don't need
to wait for it to trickle down from upstream (where of course it already
exists) do we?

That was the right thing to do for the install phase.

Hrm. I assume /tmp/vmlinuz exists and is readable by the relevant user
etc. Do the logs in /var/log/xen tell you anything?

BTW, it jut occurred to me that if you install a Squeeze VM onto a Lenny
host that you will find pygrub doesn't work because the version in Lenny
didn't yet understand the grub2 cfg file format. I think d-i still
allows you to select grub1 if you use expert mode, and it looks like you
might be able to add "grub-installer/grub2_instead_of_grub_legacy=false"
to your command line or "d-i grub-installer/grub2_instead_of_grub_legacy
boolean false" to your preseed if you have one.

Bug#542794: Test case

Thanks for the interest! I don't have a machine I can butcher with an
experimental GCC right now, unfortunately, but VIPS actually works now
on testing. I get

>>> from vipsCC import *
>>> im = VImage.VImage("thisdoesnotexist.png")
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/vipsCC/VImage.py", line 278,

this = vimagemodule.new_VImage(*args)
vipsCC.VError.VError: VIPS error: format_for_file: file
"thisdoesnotexist.png" not found

as expected rather than a core dump.

I believe they've changed the way they do the bindings for Python so
it might just be a side-effect of that, however. But without a
functioning test case, this bug report is probably pretty useless so
you might want to close it. I'll report back if I ever see it again.

OK, so testcase:
Make /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf have these entries:
DatabaseMirror db.local.clamav.net
DatabaseMirror database.clamav.net

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh clamav-freshclam
dpkg-reconfigure -phigh clamav-freshclam

Now add db.ro.clamav.net as first like this:
DatabaseMirror db.ro.clamav.net
DatabaseMirror db.local.clamav.net
DatabaseMirror database.clamav.net

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh clamav-freshclam

Popup with diff showing it in wrong place.

Unfortunately it requires the new perl which caused everything
perl-based to crash on my machine last time I had it installed.

Hopefully they will fix that before release.

Bug#590503: GSSAPI Patch

2010-08-11 Thread Rahul Amaram

Hi,
I work for an organization which deploys ejabberd for their customers
(as part of our server software). Two of our customers currently use
ejabberd with GSSAPI (one company is about 500 and the other 150) and it
seems to be stable so far.

I would be more than happy to help with this. There isn't any much
configuration involved (apart from that which is necessary for any
service which supports GSSAPI) and a few configuration parameters.

Also esasl is a necessary dependency for GSSAPI to work in ejabberd. I
have already built a deb package for it. If you decide to include GSSAPI
patch, I shall work in bringing the esasl package into better shape.

I have a gssapi patch ready for ejabberd 2.1.5 which has been taken from
badlop gssapi tree.

Regards,
Rahul.

Looks like your /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so is from an
fglrx driver installation, which probably can't work with other drivers.
Try fixing that.

Bug#592564: document unusual but supported file system configurations

2010-08-11 Thread Simon McVittie

Doesn't work: to boot and mount /etc you need /etc/fstab and /etc/init.d/* and
so on, for which you need /etc. I don't think we (should) support having a
minimal /etc that gets replaced by a larger /etc mounted over the top.

You can achieve a read-only /etc by (re)mounting / read-only, as long as all
filesystems that have to be writeable (/tmp, /var) are external. In a system
with a read-only / you'd typically have /tmp as a tmpfs and /var on another
partition, I think?

Some other useful configurations for separate filesystems include:

* /tmp on tmpfs (does d-i do this by default now?)
* /var/tmp
* /var/cache (offloaded to somewhere large and/or fast but not backed up)
* /var/log (so that logfiles can't fill /)
* /var/spool
* user files (/var/www, /srv, /home)

Regards,
Simon

Bug#592447: libdbd-sqlite3: rrdtool dbi support segfaults because of out of date upstream version

2010-08-11 Thread Markus Hoenicka

Hi,

let me clarify a few things as the current maintainer of libdbi and
libdbi-drivers:

Thomas Goirand was heard to say:

The libdbi-drivers upstream versions have a debian-like structure, so the
ones married to libdbi 0.8.3 are versioned 0.8.3-1.

Not quite. 0.8.3-1 is a bugfix release of 0.8.3. Unless we make
mistakes, libdbi 0.8.3 should have a libdbi-drivers 0.8.3 release that
works well with it. However, our general approach is that all libdbi
0.8.x releases are supposed to work with any libdbi-drivers 0.8.y
release. We have changes in CVS which break this compatibility, hence
the next releases of both the library and the driver will be 0.9.0.

Where exactly did you find something with 0.8.3-1 as upstream version?
As much as I see, this was the case only for version 0.8.2-1 of
libdbi-drivers, but that's not the case anymore (which is a good thing).

The latest official libdi-drivers release is indeed 0.8.3-1. As the
naming scheme seems to confuse you, what would you suggest to indicate
minor bugfix releases instead of a -x suffix? We don't mean to make
package maintainer's tasks harder than necessary.

regards,
Markus

Bug#592592: mini-buildd: sbuild configuration uses old style pgp_options

2010-08-11 Thread Stephan Sürken
Package: mini-buildd
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

in .sbuildrc, pgp_options used to be just a string; the version
in sid/squeeze uses an array.

This essentially makes all builds fail.

Please replace

$pgp_options = "-us -k\"Mini-Buildd Automatic Signing Key\"";

by

$pgp_options = ['-us', '-k Mini-Buildd Automatic Signing Key'];

and update the sbuild depends (as the new variant does not work for older
sbuilds).

Thx,

Bug#592593: dokuwiki: Flash applet multipleUpload.swf cannot be built from source

2010-08-11 Thread Tanguy Ortolo
Package: dokuwiki
Version: 0.0.20091225c-6
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.2.1

Hello myself,

(just to document what I am doing)

Both the upstream tarball and the Debian source and binary package contain a
binary Flash applet, lib/exe/multipleUpload.swf.

In the source package, this applet is distributed along with its source
lib/_fla/multipleUpload.fla. However, multipleUpload.fla was compiled using
non-free tools, and no free tool allow to build multipleUpload.swf from
multipleUpload.fla.

Thus, I think this consitutes a violation of the Policy section 2.2.1 that
requires that packages in main:
> * must not require a package outside of main for compilation

So, I shall simply remove lib/exe/multipleUpload.swf from the package. Luckily,
it is only needed for a minor functionnality, multiple file upload, so it
should not annoy the users very much. Anyway, I shall also document that
removal, and how to get and install lib/exe/multipleUpload.swf, in the README,
and in the CHANGES file.

The defaults however for both the squeeze and the lenny version

Bug#562585: bug is in mesa unichrome driver

2010-08-11 Thread Julien Viard de Galbert
reassign 562585 libgl1-mesa-dri
retitle 562585 mesa [Drivers/DRI/Unichrome]:
"_mesa_reference_renderbuffer: Assertion `oldRb->Magic == 0xaabbccdd'
failed."

thanks

Trying to reproduce this bug I fell in the following assert:
_mesa_reference_renderbuffer: Assertion `oldRb->Magic == 0xaabbccdd'
failed.
Also the previous gdb trace by Vaclav Juza also stop on this assert.
(this looks like bug#550992 but I could not found reference to
unichrome/openchrome there except in message #60, so I did not merge the
two bugs)

The `Magic' field is used to check for the validity of the structure,
and it appears that when it's freed using viaDestroyBuffer it's no
longer valid. Something must have corrupted it...
To find what was going on, I used gdb, and placed a watchpoint on the
Magic's address. It appeared that the location is written to 0 by a free
in viaDestroyContext.
Just checked the via_context struct in
mesa/drivers/dri/unichrome/via_context.h and it include some
via_renderbuffer structs (with a comment saying they don't belong here,
but still they are!). So freeing the via_context will also free the
memory used by those renderbuffers, then when the renderbuffer in freed
normally, it's already wrong... so it crashes.

Find attached the log of the gdb session.

Hi

I assume you are talking about an indirect dependency; but if you do
have a problem with the perl currently in testing (or unstable if it has
a freeze exception), you should definitely make sure there is a bug
report on it otherwise Squeeze might be released with a perl that is
broken (for you).
Unfortunately I cannot help you debug your perl issue and I have to
advocate the use of javahelper 0.32, because the previous version of
jh_manifest had a tendency of adding a random byte or two in the
manifest also causing FTBFS (see #574029).

Bug#592599: mini-buildd: mbd-qa-check broken by bash4

2010-08-11 Thread Stephan Sürken
Package: mini-buildd
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,

(at least) the mbd-qa-check relies on error handling behaviour of bash <=3.

More precisely, a snippet like this

---
set -e
( false )
RET=$?
---

would just continue with the subshell's retval in variable "RET"
in bash3, but error-exit in bash4 after the sub shell.

At least the construct in mbd-qa-check suffers this problem
(lines 349ff). This essentially breaks mosts builds (i.e., those
with warning in any of the checks).

Thx,

Stephan

The configure script is realisiing that there is no mysql support but
libtools tries to link against it anyway.

However, after adding libmysqlclient-dev to the Build-Depends (which is
IMHO a reasonable means to handle this problem for the moment) I get:

Hi Andreas,

EMBOSS ships a convenience copies or forks of zlib, expat, pcre and plplot,
under the names ezlib, eexpat, epcre and eplplot. But the upstream developers
were kind to provide a --entable-systemlibs option for ./configure, that allows
to use the distribution's zlib and expat libraries. For PCR and Plplot, the
EMBOSS forks are too different from the original, and we must use them. They
are in libajax6 and emboss-lib.

As you can see in the commit lists, I just uploaded embassy packages that use
this
new --entable-systemlibs configure option.

The new packages are all good except for this build-dependancy on the MySQL and
PostgreSQL packages.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Bug#587102: dh-autoreconf collides with autotools-dev's debhelper addons

That is fine with me. Would you be happy, however, to document this in
the manpage of dh_autoreconf? Something like this, for example:

dh_autoreconf is a superset of the autotools-dev debhelper addons, so
you do not need --with=autotools_dev if you use --with=autoreconf. In
fact, in most cases they should not be used together, as it may lead to
 unpredictable behaviour.

I thought it worth of mentioning because I understood that dh_autoreconf
and autotools_dev would complement each other rather than step on each
other's feet, so "dh --with autoreconf,autotools_dev $@" was an
instinctive thing for me to do.

Ciao,

Enrico

The problem is related to the refresh. For instance, it also occurs
just after I do a "redisplay" (C-a C-l).

Bug#525514: what about xserver-xorg-video-openchrome 1:0.2.902+svn579-4 ?

Can you test with more recent version ?
1:0.2.904+svn827-1 is currently in both testing and unstable.

Also do you have an other computer, so you can connect via ssh to the
failing one and get some more info? Like the content of
/var/log/Xorg.0.log after the crash, as I suspect the one you send with
your bugreport comes from a working session with version
1:0.2.902+svn579-4

The easiest in probably to launch bugreport again from the ssh
connection and to add more info to this bug.

Best Regards

Bug#499193: Still a problem [Re: gparted: 100% cpu usage]

2010-08-11 Thread 7gn6ahq8qm
Package: gparted
Version: 0.6.0-1
Severity: normal

This problem still exists. The bug report is almost two years old and
untouched. Maybe I can help with some clues and a workaround. I also
attach the gparted_details report file.

Just as Benoît Dejean I resized an ext3 partition with gparted. I also
deleted two partitions and moved the resized partition. The resized one
was called sdb8 and so became sdb6. The fsck operation before resizing
went on forever while the progress bar was playing back and forth. I
had the following active processes (according to atop):
Xorg about 80%
gpartedbin about 10%
e2fsck low, about 1%

I waited one hour, then I found this workaround:
$ sudo kill -stop 9405
where 9405 is gpartedbin
That made e2fsck go up to about 7% CPU and the disk usage rose from a
few percent to about 85%. A few minutes later fsck was ready so I let
gpartedbin continue:
$ sudo kill -cont 9405
The resize/move operation took 30 minutes (because the partition had
many inodes and hard links created by faubackup). Then the same
procedure again with another fsck and I had to pause gpartedbin. I had
to let gparted run again sometimes during the process so that e2fsck
didn't stall. This time e2fsck finished in about 13 minutes. Soon after
gparted finished with a valid result.

$ sudo mount /faubackup
$ df -m /faubackup
Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb639371 30050 7322 81% /faubackup
$ df -i /faubackup
FilesystemInodes IUsed IFree IUse% Mounted on
/dev/sdb62564096 896515 1667581 35% /faubackup

My strace of gpartedbin looks similar to the one originally attached:
Process 9405 attached - interrupt to quit
restart_syscall(<... resuming interrupted call ...>) = 1
writev(3,
[{"5\30\4\0\35d\347\2~%\340\2\373\1\32\0\223\4\5\0\36d\347\2\35d\347\2*
\0\0\0"..., 15424}, {NULL, 0}, {"", 0}], 3) = 15424
read(3, 0x849d7a0, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource
temporarily unavailable)
read(3, 0x849d7a0, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource
temporarily unavailable)
poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=6,
events=POLLIN}], 3,
0) = 0 (Timeout)
nanosleep({0, 1000}, NULL) = 0
read(3, 0x849d7a0, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource
temporarily unavailable)

Maybe "Resource temporarily unavailable" has something to do
with /dev/sdb8 which disappeared during the process?

Bug#592607: ppp: wish it was possible to rename an interface on connection

2010-08-11 Thread Russell Coker
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.5-4
Severity: normal

To avoid confusion and to simplify some firewall scripts, traffic monitoring,
etc it would be good to be able to assign a particular interface name for a
connection. So instead of having ppp0 and ppp1 randomly assigned to two
sessions I could have pppispa and pppispb or something similar.

It is possible to do everything you desire by changing the scripts, but it
would be easier and less confusing if an interface could be renamed.

Bug#592608: portslave: should support interface renaming

2010-08-11 Thread Russell Coker
Package: portslave
Severity: normal

It should be possible to rename a ppp or slip interface based on the account
name of the customer, the Portslave port number, or the tty device.

Getting a name of the form ppp[0-9]+ for each session is needlessly confusing.

No, it actually looks for which version is installed and then
calls that version’s init script, there’s no dependency on a
specific version.

Bug#592609: exim4-daemon-light: race condition in init scripts when listening on multiple ports

2010-08-11 Thread Jon Dowland
Package: exim4-daemon-light
Version: 4.69-9
Severity: normal

There seems to be a race condition for start/stop in the init script for exim
when you are listening on multiple ports. Actually race condition might not be
the right phrase; right now, it appears to not stop the daemons at all.

See e.g.:

# invoke-rc.d exim4 stop
Stopping MTA:.
# lsof -ni | grep exim
exim4 15529 Debian-exim3u IPv6 334 TCP *:submission
(LISTEN)
exim4 15529 Debian-exim5u IPv4 1112079 TCP *:submission
(LISTEN)
exim4 15529 Debian-exim6u IPv6 1112080 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 15529 Debian-exim7u IPv4 1112081 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 15529 Debian-exim8u IPv6 1112082 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)
exim4 15529 Debian-exim9u IPv4 1112083 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

If I manually kill all the exim processes and ensure nothing is listening,

# invoke-rc.d exim4 start
Starting MTA: exim4.
# lsof -ni | grep exim
exim4 17168 Debian-exim3u IPv6 1123514 TCP *:submission (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim4u IPv4 1123515 TCP *:submission (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim5u IPv6 1123516 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim6u IPv4 1123517 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim7u IPv6 1123518 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim8u IPv4 1123519 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

And then stop again:

# invoke-rc.d exim4 stop
Stopping MTA:.
# lsof -ni | grep exim
exim4 17168 Debian-exim3u IPv6 1123514 TCP *:submission (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim4u IPv4 1123515 TCP *:submission (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim5u IPv6 1123516 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim6u IPv4 1123517 TCP *:ssmtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim7u IPv6 1123518 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)
exim4 17168 Debian-exim8u IPv4 1123519 TCP *:smtp (LISTEN)

I've got it listening on multiple ports via

SMTPLISTENEROPTIONS='-oX 587:465:25'

...in /etc/default/exim4

This also causes issues with 'restart', when the new daemon instances can't
bind to the right ports:

2010-08-11 09:41:48 socket bind() to port 587 for address (any IPv6) failed:
Address already in use: waiting 30s before trying again (4 more tries)

I've noticed also that the pid file is never written to on start, no matter
whether a daemon is hanging around or not (/var/run/exim4 is empty).

Well, it isn't... Have you even tested before you set it to resolved
fixed???

Also, if you care to read the upstream report, comment 13
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606090#c13), it say:

"However, not all settings we used to save are saved now, only toolbar
and sidebar visibility and window size are used as default values for
 new documents."

The remaining issues that annoys me are:
* two-page view
* page fit
* continuous

By the way, I can't understand why the upstream report was set to
fixed with a comment like that...

Bug#592610: 7.3/7.4/7.6: Usage of Breaks and Conflicts unclear and contradictive

2010-08-11 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Package: debian-policy
Version: 3.8.4.0
Severity: normal

Hi,

in May there was a discussion about the right use of Breaks or
Conflicts as part of Bug#582423, e.g.
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-ctte/2010/05/msg00012.html

Since then I've noticed at least 3 people on #debian-devel asking
questions about wether to use Breaks or Conflicts now. Imho the
description of Breaks and Conflicts is unclear and contradictory in
parts and the use of Replaces+Breaks in 7.6.1 is wrong (breaks when an
upgrade is aborted).

I think all the needed info is in policy and the above mentioned
discussion and now a good word smith is needed to write it up all nice
and understandable. Saddly that is not me so consider this a request
for help from those of you good with words.

MfG
Goswin

Bug#592611: gnumeric: column width should not auto fit when entering numbers

2010-08-11 Thread Frederic Mothe
Package: gnumeric
Version: 1.10.8-1
Severity: minor

Hello,

When you enter a number or formula which size exceeds the cell width
(e.g. "=pi()"), the column expands automatically (assuming default format
and size).

The expected behaviour would be to adapt the format by reducing the number of
decimals or by using scientific format (as it happens when you copy the result
into a new cell).

Thanks,
Frédéric

Bug#584666: xrdp: German keymap at-sign broken

2010-08-11 Thread Ernst Gill
Hi,

First of all the German key map file is called km-0407.ini
and not km-0409.ini (this is the US key map file).

I did some investigation by starting the xrdp and xrdp-sesman
not in daemon mode.

The following output was given by the xrdp:

--
local keymap file for 0x0407 found and dosen't match built in
keymap, using local keymap file
--

This message is written from the 'get_keymaps' function in
file 'xrdp/lang.c'.

The conclusion is that xrdp is NOT able to read the
own generated key map file !!!

Bug#580807: the java bindings as built by Debian don't work

2010-08-11 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: libinsighttoolkit3-jni
Version: 3.18.0-3+b1
Severity: normal

Hello

I looked through the build-dependencies of insighttoolkit and found that
I have all at Squeeze version.

So I tried to upgrade g++ to 4.4 and now the bindings I built are also
broken:

for i in libinsighttoolkit3-jni_3.18.0-r4* ; do dpkg-deb -f $i
Depends; done
libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libfftw3-3, libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libgdcm2.0 (>=
2.0.15), libinsighttoolkit3.18, libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libstdc++6 (>=
4.2.1), libtiff4, zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)
libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libfftw3-3, libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1), libgdcm2.0 (>=
2.0.15), libinsighttoolkit3.18, libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libstdc++6 (>=
4.4.0), libtiff4, zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)

Note the difference in libstdc++ dependency.

So I will need to keep g++ 4.3 in Squeeze and rebuild the pacakges locally until
this is resolved I guess.

Thanks

Michal

Bug#592447: libdbd-sqlite3: rrdtool dbi support segfaults because of out of date upstream version

How come the link from libdbi.sourceforge.net is
going to the 0.8.3 and not 0.8.3-1? Can you fix
your website link?

> The latest official libdi-drivers release is indeed 0.8.3-1. As the

In Debian, we have upstreamversion-debianrelease.
That means that if you have 0.8.3-1, the Debian
version will be 0.8.3-1-1, which isn't very
pretty. I am gessing that in FreeBDS this is also
an issue as they don't use - in there versioning
scheme.

What would be best would be to use 0.8.3, then if
you have a bugfix release use 0.8.3.1, which is
bigger than just 0.8.3. Or even better, just have
the first release called 0.8.3.0 so that it
confuses no one.

Now, did you say that there is a 0.9.0 available
somewhere? I'm not sur by reading the above, and
I didn't find it.

Cheers,

Thomas Goirand (zigo) (over my N900 mobile phone
hence the silly formating, sorry...)

Bug#592447: libdbd-sqlite3: rrdtool dbi support segfaults because of out of date upstream version

2010-08-11 Thread Markus Hoenicka

Thomas Goirand was heard to say:

How come the link from libdbi.sourceforge.net is

your website link?

Which link are you exactly worrying about? At
http://libdbi-drivers.sourceforge.net, the latest news mentions
0.8.3-1. If you follow the "Download" menu entry, and then the "Main
Download site" link, you'll end up at the SF project page. This has a
full list of releases, 0.8.3-1 being the latest one. The only thing
that worries me is that the big green download button displays 0.8.3
instead of 0.8.3-1, but this is beyond our control afaik.

What would be best would be to use 0.8.3, then if
you have a bugfix release use 0.8.3.1, which is
bigger than just 0.8.3. Or even better, just have
the first release called 0.8.3.0 so that it

Fair enough. I'll try and follow this naming convention for future releases.

Now, did you say that there is a 0.9.0 available
somewhere? I'm not sur by reading the above, and
I didn't find it.

Not yet. The code is in CVS. We're currently fiddling with a new test
suite and a showstopper bug in firebird, which probably won't allow us
to offer the firebird driver as one of the fully supported core drivers.

regards,
Markus

Bug#578729: screen outputs spaces when switching window with "defbce on"

2010-08-11 Thread Vincent Lefevre
retitle 578729 screen outputs spaces when refreshing/attaching a window with
"defbce on"
thanks

The problem occurs after a window is refreshed, e.g. due to the
"redisplay" command or due to a newly attached window.

Bug#592613: mp3splt: Regression in padded filename support

2010-08-11 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: mp3splt
Version: 2.2.5-1
Severity: normal

The upstream changelog for version 1.8 notes:

feature improved: output filenames now are automatically zero padded
  for a correct order.

And true enough, with older versions of mp3splt, you would get filenames
like:

 $ mp3splt -t 5.0 -a *.mp3
 Mp3Splt 2.1 (2004/Sep/28) by Matteo Trotta

THIS SOFTWARE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
 wot6_part1.mp3:

 [...]
 Splitting wot6_part1_090.00_095.00.mp3... OK
 Splitting wot6_part1_095.00_100.00.mp3... OK
 Splitting wot6_part1_100.00_105.00.mp3... OK
 Splitting wot6_part1_105.00_110.00.mp3... OK
 [...]

In other words, since the total length is greater than 100 minutes, it
pads the minutes parts of the filenames with zeros for minutes < 100.

However, with newer versions of mp3splt, this is no longer the case:

 $ mp3splt -t 5.0 -a *.mp3
 mp3splt 2.2.5 (16/05/09) - using libmp3splt 0.5.6
 [...]
  Processing file 'wot6_part1.mp3' ...

 [...]
File "wot6_part1_100m_00s__105m_00s.mp3" created
 [...]

The minutes parts of the filenames are no longer padded with zeros, so
the files are no longer sorted in a sane order. Somewhere between 2.1
and 2.2.5, a regression seems to have occurred and this feature stopped
working.

I have now read the README.Debian file and also the bug #565812.
Anything new to me in README.Debian, I am not sure if this bug could be the
same than #565812.
In my case the wl module can be loaded and it is usable, but in order to can
use it I must to run these commands each time I boot the machine:

# modprobe -r b43
# modprobe -r ssb
# modprobe -r wl
