Bug#379851: flashplugin-nonfree: mozilla-firefox crash

2008-05-04 Thread Nicolas Bonifas

Hello,

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=379851
Do you experience this problem also with Adobe Flash Player version
9,0,124,0 ?

No problem with version 9,0,31,0 (I installed it from Adobe's website,
not with flashplugin-nonfree).

Thanks,
Nicolas

Bug#474980: Netrw's handling of symlinked directories

2008-05-04 Thread James Vega
Sorry for the extra noise, but I downloaded v125f after sending this
mail and wanted to give updated information.

Aside from the change in the top-level listing, the rest is the same.
So, the symlink is now being displayed correctly, but the file displayed
after navigating through a symlink is incorrectly showing up as a
symlink too.

Bug#479286: readahead: Need plan for providing updated file list in Debian/stable

2008-05-04 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: readahead
Version: 1:0.20050517.0220-1

Before each new stable release, the file list provided by default in
readahead need to be updated to reflect the current set of files in
the Debian distribution. One issue is to resolve is which profile to
use when generating the default file list. Two obvious options are an
installation with only the base system, and an installation with the
desktop (and perhaps laptop) tasksel tasks installed.

I would recommend the latter.

An alternative would be to force a profile boot as the very first
thing after installation, to make sure the readahead files are tuned
to the installed system. The problem with this approach is that
profile runs are very slow.

Anyway, the file list need to be updated for Lenny, and this BTS
report is just to make sure it isn't forgotten.

Happy hacking,

Well, after thinking a bit... *smoke on the head*, I knew I already
tried this game long times ago.

I saw that I had a .wormux/config.xml file from 2004 in my home, removed
it, and the game started. :-)

The XML file is joined to reproduce.

I currently think that this is driving the magic "too far". If one
decides to run bind chrooted, that one should also be able to modify
the aide rules themselves.

I might reconsider this decision should good arguments come in. Is
there any other rule in aide that parses third-party configuration
just to obtain a single setting? I know that the amanda rules do this,
but amanda rules would be a horrible mess otherwise.

Greetings
Marc

It would help if you'd answer the question that Tom has asked three
weeks ago since you seem to have knowledge that only a few people on
this list have.

And Debian has changed the DH parameter size to 2048 bits (hoping that
the patch I applied to tls-gnu.c #defining DH_BITS to 2048 and
PARAM_SIZE to 2*2048 was all that needed changing). Since generation
of 2048 bits DH parameters takes a long time even on recent systems, I
have disabled the generation of DH parameters completely, so all
Debian installations are now using a set of DH parameters generated at
packae build time. We still ship the script that was used to
regenerate the parameters daily, so local admins may choose to invoke
it on a regular basis.

I do sincerely hope that this is an acceptable compromise, I do not
have sufficient crypto knowledge to be a judge.

I'd trust the GnuTLS people to know what they're doing and go with
their default.

Bug#479248: does not install lintian overrides

2008-05-04 Thread Andreas Tille

On Sun, 4 May 2008, Holger Levsen wrote:

Me too, but I'd like to know :)

Ahhh, I was wrong because Joey Hess seemed to have changed his mind.
Reading #478989 there must actually be a dh_lintian and the bug is
asking for approach 3. Having slept over it I would like this
approach most and I was about to implement it for cdd-dev.

Sure. But knowing Joey Hess, I doubt that was the reason :)

You know hom wrong. ;-) See #109642.
But this was 7 years ago and I like the change.

I see three chances:
2. Use separate override files and use a naming sheme like
.override.

Why use 10 files when you can use 1?

See bug #478989 as quotet above. I completely agree with Raphael Geissert
and I really hope that Joey will implement this soon.

3. Grep the single lintian.override file for
metapackage-names and put the relevant entry into the according meta
package.

I'd suggest to do this.

Even if I agree with you that the single override file is the better
way to go, I would prefer to use common debhelper tools as they are and
don't invent code which might be duplicated later in debhelper. Would
this be acceptable for you?

BTW, I think using dh_lintian seems to need a versioned dependency from
debhelper 6.x? Or if you have quick access to a stable system running
debhelper 5.x, could you please verify the existence of dh_lintian?

Kind regards and thanks for your input

   Andreas.

I remember having some problem calling tar directly back in the ancient
pre-history of piuparts, but since I can't remember what it was, and
since it's been almost three years and everything has changed since
then, I say go for it. If it turns out to be a problem, we'll fix it.

Bug#479295: lsb-base: /lib/lsb/init-functions, killproc, please allow parameters for --retry

2008-05-04 Thread Marc Haber
Package: lsb-base
Version: 3.2-12
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

please implement a way to pass a user-specified value for the --retry
option in the start-stop-daemon call in killproc.

There is a number of daemons that are not going to die in the five
seconds that are hardcoded in killproc (With nagios and torrus, I am
involved in maintenance of two of them, squid being a third one I know
of), and it would be great to have appropriate code in killproc to
handle these cases.

Handling this in a number of init scripts is error-prone and
duplicates code.

As an alternative, it would be good to have a (admittedly
non-standard) function that signals the daemon and waits for it to die
while printing dots.

Greetings
Marc

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd;ver=1.2.1-1;arch=arm;stamp=1209714768

The arm build report above has the following lines:

[...]
Building dependency tree...
Note, selecting libpci-dev instead of pciutils-dev
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libpci-dev libpci3 libpixman-1-0 libpixman-1-dev libxau-dev libxau6 m4
  x11-common x11proto-core-dev x11proto-input-dev x11proto-xext-dev zlib1g-dev
[...]

So there you have the name backwards-compatibility (for arm so far).

libpci-dev provides libpci-dev.

Release team, please consider giving back
xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd except for arm.

Thank you.

Bug#479303: chrony: please allow to force using a source

2008-05-04 Thread Bernhard R. Link
Package: chrony
Version: 1.23-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

It would be nice to tell chrony to always use a given source,
especially as it tends to give up easily if it has problems
with the local clock and then fills the syslog with messages
about no available sources and selecting this source again
every few seconds.

Attached patch adds a "trusted" keyword that seems to have the effect
I want.

Hi Matthias,

you asked in January:

Ouch.

Other than shipping a yet-to-be-written perl script that uses
libberkeleydb-perl and tries to open the torrus databases, I am not
aware of any. We could invoke that script from postinst and run
db_recover if the script fails.

Unfortunately, I do currently not have the time to write this
ten-liner as I don't know enough about berkeley db. I am therefore
tagging this bug "help" and would appreciate if somebody could write
such a script.

I have added this to README.Debian.

Petter -- thanks for this report. Looking at the man page, I see that
it mentions the function is buggy. Have you verified whether or not
it still is? I suspect that this bugginess is the reason that the
previousmaintainer didn't create the links you sugget.

Can you reproduce this at will these days? If so, please try to describe
how you make it happen. Also, if you can make it happen with
'FC_DEBUG=8191 fc-cache -fs' then please send along a link to that
output. It might also be useful to run it under valgrind; the stack
trace above makes it look like something very bad has happened inside
the application -- fstat is segfaulting, presumbly attempting to write
the output stat buffer.

There are about 6 bugs which appear related to this same problem, but
yours is the only one found on the current version of the library.

Bug#479311: screen: Add separate option for reverse wrapping

2008-05-04 Thread herbert
Package: screen
Version: 4.0.3-0.3+b1
Severity: wishlist

Currently screen has one line-wrapping option that controls both
wrapping when the cursor reaches the right edge of the screen as
well as when the cursor reaches the left through back-space.

In xterm on the other hand, the latter is controlled through a
separate option called reverse wrapping (xterm -rw) and defaults
to off.

So it would be nice to have a screen configuration where forward
wrapping is on and reverse wrapping is off just like xterm.

Thanks!

Bug#479312: ITP: onesixtyone -- An efficient SNMP scanner

2008-05-04 Thread Sebastian Castillo
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Sebastian Castillo Builes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name : onesixtyone
* URL  :
http://www.phreedom.org/solar/onesixtyone/
* License  : GPLv2+
  Programming Lang : C
Description : An efficient SNMP scanner
The approach taken by most SNMP scanners is to send the request, wait for n
seconds and assume that the community string is invalid. If only 1 of every
hundred scanned IP addresses responds to the SNMP request,
the scanner will spend 99*n seconds waiting for replies that will never
come.

This makes traditional SNMP scanners very inefficient.

Onesixtyone takes a different approach to SNMP scanning. It takes advantage
of the fact that SNMP is a connectionless protocol and sends all SNMP
requests as fast as it can. Then the scanner waits for responses
to come back and logs them, in a fashion similar to Nmap ping sweeps. By
default onesixtyone waits for 10 milliseconds between sending packets, which
is adequate for 100Mbs switched networks. The user can adjust
this value via the -w command line option. If set to 0, the scanner will
send packets as fast as the kernel would accept them, which may lead to
packet drop.

Running onesixtyone on a class B network (switched 100Mbs with 1Gbs
backbone) with -w 10 gives us a performance of 3 seconds per class C, with
no dropped packets. All 65536 IP addresses were scanned in less than
 13 minutes.

The problem is also reported at

The solution (or a workaround?) it so install lib32nss-mdns.
So I think that this should be added as a dependency to the amd64

Files in conf-available are snipplets meant to be adapted to your needs.
Those are not enabled by default hence it's *not* a security issue, as
administrators are supposed to read what they activate.

Though I'll quote that part in a future upload. But I see no urgency to

Bug#479318: does not work with perl 5.10.x

2008-05-04 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: lintian
Version: 1.23.47
Severity: grave

Here is what I get today, after an upgrade to perl 5.10.x, running
lintian on a *.changes file:

  $ lintian ocaml-res_2.2.5-1_i386.changes
Can't use string ("1") as an ARRAY ref while "strict refs" in use at

internal error: cannot run menus check on package libres-ocaml-dev
N: Skipping check of binary package libres-ocaml-dev

Yesterday it was working properly. The changes file involved is
attached, though I doubt it is related at all to the problem.

An educated guess: either something in lintian needs to be ported to the
new perl, or lintian dependencies are wrong and need to be fixed to
avoid co-installability with latest perl.

... nevertheless, thanks for lintian! :)
Cheers.

IMO your problem is the cause of the different kernel. I also like to
keep the order of disk, that is created by the kernel. AFAIK this
order depends on the order the kernel loads the drivers. If we sort
the disks by their names, we will lost this information.

That looks like a corollary of the current perl transition.

So this is a workaround.

I'd like to leave this bug around until the perl transition dust has
settled and then see whether the issue still persists.

Bug#479317: returns non-0 exit code with perl-modules 5.10

2008-05-04 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: pristine-tar
Version: 0.13
Severity: important

A git repository which yesterday was using properly pristine-tar to
checkout a tarball, is today failing with exit code 2 (though actually
*after* the tarball has been checked out properly). Here is a console
log showing the problem:

  $ ls *.tar.gz
ls: cannot access *.tar.gz: No such file or directory

  $ pristine-tar checkout sexplib310_3.7.4.orig.tar.gz
  cannot chdir to /tmp/pristine-tar.9maly5vk6r/workdir/sexplib310-3.7.4 from
/tmp/pristine-tar.9maly5vk6r: No such file or directory, aborting. at
/usr/share/perl5/File/Temp.pm line 901
END failed--call queue aborted at /usr/bin/pristine-tar line 724.
  pristine-tar: failed to generate tarball

  $ echo $?
  2

  $ ls *.tar.gz
  sexplib310_3.7.4.orig.tar.gz

Even though the tarball is checkout properly (also the md5sums are the
right one), this behaviour is problematic for scripts relying on
pristine-tar exit code; most notably it is making git-buildpackage fail
a build when using pristine-tar.

I bet it is related to new perl-modules as today is the first day I
upgraded to a perl of the 5.10.x series.

Beside that, many thanks for this very clever tool :-)
Cheers.

Bug#479322: [evince] Printing an open page range (20-) breaks

2008-05-04 Thread Matthias Bläsing
Package: evince
Version: 2.20.2-1+b1
Severity: normal

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

Hey,

I just tried to print a pdf document and noticed something very strange.
It was a 57 pages document. I wanted to print the pages following page
20. So I specified: "20-" as page range. I got this:

GLib-ERROR **: /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.16.3/glib/gmem.c:136: failed to
allocate 4294967220 bytes

Specifing 20-57 worked surprisingly. The two cases should work equally -
I think.

Greetings

Matthias

Hi,

I'm a bit surprised that nobody answered my mail. Is the hppa port still
actively worked on?

Anyway, if nobody else is interested in investigating this, and since
paer.debian.org has been down for months, could someone give me access
to an hppa machine somewhere, preferably running Debian unstable, with
ruby1.9 build-deps installed? Thibaut? Grant? Matthew?

Thank you,

I have not verified it, but came across messages indicating that the
bug has been fixed in glibc, at least. The function is used by 'id'

This is still undefined. If you need machine address arithmetic, you
should use uintptr_t and hope for the best.

Does it mean that the loop indexed on an integer should become an
infinite loop ?

Ehm, ists not. Its added via
adduser --system --group --home /var/run/nagios3 --no-create-home \
  --disabled-login --force-badname nagios > /dev/null

from nagio3-common. There is no call of useradd from nagios3.
/var/run/nagios3 exists. (Its still questionable it its the right home
directory. But it exists.

OK.

Ah. I have never even come close to being aware that loop-AES + keyfile
required both. I think having this table in the manual would help too.

Yes, you're right. I see it too now. I wonder how that could be improved
from a usability PoV because it's not obvious.
One option could be to add a separator below Encryption method. That would
make it somewhat clear that it's an option that's on a different "level"
than the others. Hmm, maybe we should do the same below "Use as" too. If
we do that Use as and Encryption method could probably be kept together.

OK. So it seems there is no real bug, just a minor usability issue.
Thanks for the explanations Max. At least it's gotten some extra testing.

BTW, I think the fact that I needed to generate more entropy could be due
to changes in the kernel. I seem to remember reading that they've become
more strict on entropy sources.

Cheers,
FJP

The attached patch fixes the two occurrences of this problem in
checks/menus; the new version correctly pulls out all of the doc-base
issues mentioned on lintian.d.o for automake1.7 and pgf, using both perl
5.8.8 and 5.10.0.

I had a quick look and can't see any other uses of the syntax.

That's only half correct: It's the reason why texmf.cnf is managed by
ucf.

IIRC, the reason why the files in texmf.d are managed by ucf is that
dpkg wasn't at all able to handle the movement of conffiles from one
package to the other, at the time the files were moved from tetex-bin to
tex-common.

No, sorry, that can't be the complete story either, since even in
oldstable (and tetex-bin) they are ucf-managed.

We would be glad to put them back under dpkg control, if only dpkg would
provide

a) the necessary features (in particular moving between packages) and

b) some clean way to get them back from ucf without loosing information.

Regards, Frank

Any chance this can get done soon? Quite a number of my projects are
being bitten by bugs in the Debian 'python-coverage' that are fixed
upstream.

Do you need assistance to get this done? What can I do to help?

To the best of my knowledge, this is not correct. Since some version (be it
2.6.16 or the like), the kernel uses asynchronous device detection, that is, all
drivers are loaded and devices may get detected (and thus named) in an order
depending on outside temperature or bad wheather conditions or the like. This is
also why udev got so important, e.g., for consistent network device naming. If,
however, there is no udev rules files (as in case of an initial install), naming
may vary.

Best,
Michael

Bug#479323: exonerate version 2.0 is now available.

2008-05-04 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
Package: exonerate
Version: 1.4.0-1
Severity: wishlist
Usertags: origin-ubuntu

Hi,

Quoting http://www.ebi.ac.uk/~guy/exonerate/:

This is a major new version. It now contains a new program, exonerate-server
which can work with exonerate in client:server mode. This holds a database
and indices in memory for much faster genome searches. Version 2.0 also
contains two new models, protein2dna:bestfit and protein2genome:bestfit,
support for non-standard genetic codes,, and user-supplied alternative splice
site data.
Many reported bugs have also been fixed.

Would be nice if we can update.

Many thanks,

Cesare

Bug#476504: does not build, even with suggested patch , newer patch

2008-05-04 Thread A Mennucc1
hi

I tried to build the nvidia 169.12-1 module on my amd64 system with
kernel 2.6.25-1 ; I applied the patch found at

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/attachment.php?s=41498f047cfc027419df58a2559e9a7f&attachmentid=30771&d=1205875946

and then tried to compile using

the above is strange; it is as if the KBUILD system is passing two
options '-c -S' to 'modpost', but these options are no more recognized.

For a quick and dirty fix, I patched
 /lib/modules/2.6.25-1-amd64/build/scripts/Makefie.modpost
as in attachment, and I could then compile the module.

No, I fully agree with this :-)

I haven't done it myself before for two reasons:
- it actually was once needed (when the transition from bind 9.2 to
9.3 happened)
- removing it meant to adjust all translations and hence another
round of uploads to fix that..
... which isn't easy for me to do right now.

When shall we upload this, then ?
( I would merge ALL your changes with a couple of my own before)

Thanks for your patience.

I intend to do this within the next week, now that I'm on vacation and
have some time for myself.

If I haven't done this by Monday, May 12, please prepare an NMU and get

Bug#386207: Please improve documentation

2008-05-04 Thread Michael Mende
Hello Andras,

I guess the problem is solved by linking against libpcre.
I tried to reproduce your example with current version and it worked as
expected:

CheckURL "^/foo($|/)":
http://bla/foo -> HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
http://bla/foo/-> HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
http://bla/foo/bla -> HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
http://bla/blafoo/ -> HTTP/1.0 501 Not Implemented

The 404 errors are ok, because there is no `foo' on the webserver.

If you have no objection, I would like to close this bug.

This seems to be a problem in some of the calendars. I would vote for
rtrebula.ics one, but you can't be pretty sure, as they're processed

Please, tell me if you could send those calendars, and I can talk to

Bug#479325: cdebconf-gtk-entropy: minor usability issues

2008-05-04 Thread Frans Pop
Package: cdebconf-gtk-entropy
Version: 0.7
Severity: minor

I've just tried out the entropy gathering in the graphical frontend, and it
seems to work great. However, I do have a few minor nitpicks.

* The text "You can speed up..." seems to have some hardcoded line feeds in
it, which means its not using the full width of the display as other
  dialogs do.
* The progress bar is missing a percentage indicator. However, that's really
a general issue in the graphical installer. I seem to miss it here more
  than elsewhere though.
* When entering character using the keyboard, cdebconf-newt-entropy will
periodically clear the text box so that it does not "overflow". The
  gtk variant currently lacks that.

All three issues can be seen on this screenshot:
http://people.debian.org/%7Efjp/tmp/d-i/cdebconf-gtk-entropy.png

Cheers,
FJP

Please run beagled with --debug from the console so we get a nice native

Package: ttf-mathematica4.1

Is it just me or why only few font files are installed, when this
Debian-package is installed? In my /usr/share/fonts/truetype/mathml
there are just these files:

math1___.ttf math2___.ttf math3___.ttf math4___.ttf

Very long time ago I installed those fonts by hand to

Yeah, I misjudged. This is the issue: while jppy starts fine by
itself, the jpilot jppy plugin fails to load. When I start jpilot,
I get told:

  Open failed on plugin [/usr/lib/jpilot/plugins/libjppy.so]

I am pretty much at a loss what is causing this and would appreciate
if any of you could fill me in. Otherwise I don't see a way how
I could continue to maintain jppy for Debian.

I was suspecting this. When I tried to debug the crash I was seeing
(that was notenetheless different from what you were seeing ), I tried
to recompile the files where the crash was occuring with '-O2 -g'
instead of '-O4' .. and the crash disappeared!

so it seems that the code generated with 'gcc -O4' (4.2 or 4.3) is somewhat
incompatible
with more recent kernels (why? beats me)

> Do you still want a backtrace ?

if you ever see it crashing ... yes :-)

Bug#462429: SIGILL in libGLcore.so.1 from nvidia-glx 169.07-2 due to SSE instructions

2008-05-04 Thread Adam Szojda
Hi.

OK. I have - rather caressly - closed this bug without testing... I
had not time to upgrade since then - I've been running version
100.14.19 until today.

Now I've run some tests and yes - setting __GL_FORCE_GENERIC_CPU to 1
doesn't seem to solve this... so... reopen #462429 ...

You can get the old nvidia drivers from snapshot.debian.net. Just add
this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://snapshot.debian.net/archive pool nvidia-graphics-drivers

dbus package recommends dbus-x11. However many server installations need to have
dbus anyway, so I suggest to change Recommends to Suggests here (especially
given the fact APT installs Recommends by default now).

Quoting the policy: "The Recommends field should list packages that would be
found together with this one in all but unusual installations" and X11-less
server is quite usual configuration.

Hello.

It seems totem-mozilla does not work when you use Iceweasel from
experimental (3.x beta). I'm only guessing but maybe a rebuild against
updated mozilla libraries would solve the issue. It would be awesome if
you could put a working totem-mozilla in experimental that works with
iceweasel from experimental. Thanks in advance.
