Note that while both are probably tightly related, they are not exactly
the same problem. The first is speaking of removing conffiles on upgrade
when they would be marked obsolete if the conffile is unmodified... and
the second speaks of removing those obsolete files (modified or unmodified
doesn't matter here, though if the first is fixed, we would only have
modified files here) on purge.

Bug#460828: Further info

2008-01-18 Thread alberto maurizi

I noticed that, if I cancel the request of a passphrase, then
NetworkManager "realises" that a key exists, however it
disconnectes immediately after connection.

If I reiterate the process It connects without asking password.

In both cases I do not provide a key but it seems nm can manage
to find it (maybe through keyring-manager).

However, I'm not sure this would happens the same at all times.
It seems more like a random behaviour.

Hope this helps.

I did not receive a response and I notice that the package is
already out of testing due to a "grave" bug.

This is the only PS editor in Debian that can annotate PS files
and is light on library dependencies. More importantly I use it
to fill in downloaded crosswords, sudokus and other puzzles!

So I'm taking over.

Regards,

Kapil.

Bug#461383: pgbouncer: must not hardcode libc6 dependency

2008-01-18 Thread Philipp Kern
Package: pgbouncer
Severity: serious
Version: 1.1.2-1

You do not use shlibs, which results in uninstallability on alpha and
ia64, because libc6 is named differently there. You might not use yada
for your package, but fix your package to use debhelper and its shlibs
substitution correctly.

Kind regards,
Philipp Kern

PS: Please get the description through a review and remove senseless
crap like `This package genereted (sic) without yada.' from

Bug#460872: Caused by buggy wifi signal

2008-01-18 Thread Sander Marechal
It turns out that the error was caused by a Linksys wifi router that had
locked up and was sending out some buggy wifi signal. Nevertheless, I
think that the driver should be able to recover from this and simply
ignore it. Not fall into a resource hogging infinite restart loop.

Bug#445930: Partially fixed

2008-01-18 Thread Eugen Dedu

Hi,

Just to say that with today's unstable upload, gcj-4.3 does not generate
errors as in my previous email and that gcj-4.1 generates Swing programs
which work fine.

So the only thing which remains for this bug is that actual unstable
gcj-4.3 and gcj-4.2 generate programs which do not respond to events.

Cheers,

Package: svn-load
Version: 0.8-1

Hi,
please supply at least a rudimentary man page for svn-load.
The online help is not enough to figure out how to use it -
I had to look up information for svn_load_dirs.pl and hope
that the two are very similar. Besides, this is a Debian
policy violation (chap. 12.1).

Bug#461394: kghostview: When reloading a document the page should not gange

2008-01-18 Thread Luis Fernando Llana Diaz
Package: kghostview
Version: 4:3.5.7-4
Severity: wishlist

Hello,
  When making a document in LaTeX sometime is useful to view the
result in the postscript format rather than the dvi. This especially
important when using pstricks. For that is important to generate the
ps document and reloading it many times. But if one is viewing certain
page, it is important that (after reloading the document) the page
would be the same, not the first page as the current behavior of
kghostview does. The old program gv behaves as good, after reloading a
document the viewing page is the one the user was viewing before
reloading.

Bug#461399: simgear_1.0.0-1 (alpha/unstable): FTBFS: Unrecognized CPU architecture

2008-01-18 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: simgear
Version: 1.0.0-1
Severity: serious

simgear is now failing to build on alpha, hppa, and s390 with the following
error:

if gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../simgear -I../..  -fPIC -pipe  -g -O2
-D_REENTRANT -MT bitslib.o -MD -MP -MF ".deps/bitslib.Tpo" -c -o bitslib.o
bitslib.c; \
then mv -f ".deps/bitslib.Tpo" ".deps/bitslib.Po"; else rm -f
".deps/bitslib.Tpo"; exit 1; fi
In file included from nasal.h:7,
 from data.h:4,
 from bitslib.c:2:
naref.h:20:3: error: #error Unrecognized CPU architecture
[...]

A full build log can be found at
.

The reason for this is the following code in naref.h:

/* Rather than play elaborate and complicated games with
 * platform-dependent endianness headers, just detect the platforms we
 * support. This list is simpler and smaller, yet still quite
 * complete. */
#if (defined(__x86_64) && defined(__linux__)) || defined(__sparcv9) || \
defined(__powerpc64__)
/* Win64 and Irix should work with this too, but have not been
 * tested */
#   define NASAL_NAN64
#elif defined(_M_IX86)   || defined(i386)|| defined(__x86_64) || \
  defined(__ia64__) || defined(_M_IA64) || defined(__ARMEL__)
# define NASAL_LE
#elif defined(__sparc) || defined(__ppc__) ||defined(__PPC) || \
  defined(__mips) || defined(__ARMEB__)
# define NASAL_BE
#else
# error Unrecognized CPU architecture
#endif

... which is a cop-out, and a serious regression because the old code built
and ran fine on all architectures.

The above code should have __alpha__ added to the NASAL_LE list, and
__hppa__, __s390__, and __s390x__ added to the NASAL_BE list.

BTW, according to data.h, the NASAL_NAN64 option exists to support stupid
union tricks:

// On 64 bit systems, Nasal non-numeric references are stored with a
// bitmask that sets the top 16 bits. As a double, this is a
// signalling NaN that cannot itself be produced by normal numerics
// code. The pointer value can be reconstructed if (and only if) we
// are guaranteed that all memory that can be pointed to by a naRef
// (i.e. all memory returned by naAlloc) lives in the bottom 48 bits
// of memory. Linux on x86_64, Win64, Solaris and Irix all have such
// policies with address spaces:

[...] Linux doesn't document this rigorously, but testing
// shows that it allows 47 bits of address space (and current x86_64
// implementations are limited to 48 bits of virtual space anyway). So
// we choose 48 as the conservative compromise.

So this assumes the kernel will never expose more than 48bits of address
space to userspace processes -- a short-sighted and groundless assumption,
the reason Linux hasn't "documented this rigorously" is because there is no
such guarantee. The NASAL_NAN64 option should be thrown out for all Linux
variants.

upstream merged iwlwifi driver for 2.6.24. it doesn't need that strange
binary daemon. so this bug will not be worked in as iwlwifi is a
different code base and going forward.

Bug#461407: kernel-image: Kernel panic with clusterip

2008-01-18 Thread Michele Codutti
Package: kernel-image
Version: 2.6-amd64
Severity: normal

Using the clusterip feature of the linux kernel often provoke a kernel panic
when the module ipt_CLUSTERIP is removed.
This behaviour is non constan but it happens frequently.
The passages to reproduce this bug are:
1. setup two debian machines on the same subnet
2. choose a new (and unused) ip of the same subnet.
3. on the machine A and B type:
   ip add $NEW_IP dev $IFACE
4. on the machine A type:
   iptables -I INPUT -d $NEW_IP -i $IFACE -j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode
sourceip-sourceport --clustermac 01:02:03:04:05:06 --total-nodes 2 --local-node
1
   on the machine B type:
   iptables -I INPUT -d $NEW_IP -i $IFACE -j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode
sourceip-sourceport --clustermac 01:02:03:04:05:06 --total-nodes 2 --local-node
2
5. ping form a third machine the $NEW_IP and see if it's working.
   If not reread the previous passages and detect the error.
6. on the machine A type:
   iptables -D INPUT iptables -I INPUT -d $NEW_IP -i $IFACE -j CLUSTERIP --new
--hashmode sourceip-sourceport --clustermac 01:02:03:04:05:06 --total-nodes 2
--local-node 1
   on the machine B type:
   echo "+1" > /proc/net/ipt_CLUSTERIP/$NEW_IP
7. At this point the machine A should show a kernel panic.
   if not type on the machine B:
   echo "-1" > /proc/net/ipt_CLUSTERIP/$NEW_IP
   and on the machine A:
   iptables -I INPUT -d $NEW_IP -i $IFACE -j CLUSTERIP --new --hashmode
sourceip-sourceport --clustermac 01:02:03:04:05:06 --total-nodes 2 --local-node
1
   then return at step 6.

This is the log from first kernel panic I've got:

It prints "Starting..." immediately and the freeze does not occur. It waits
for five seconds before anything else is printed (e.g. the progress messages

Bug#461419: ntpd stopped working

2008-01-18 Thread Vincent Lefevre
Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.4p4+dfsg-3
Severity: important

For an unknown reason, ntpd stopped working (the time is not longer
corrected), probably since about 2008-01-16 18:28:26 +0100 as:

-rw-r--r-- 1 ntp ntp 9 2008-01-16 18:28:26 /var/lib/ntp/ntp.drift

I've restarted it with

  /etc/init.d/ntp restart

but it still doesn't work.

vin:~> ps -fwp `pgrep ntpd`

/var/run/ntpd.pid -u 104:110 -g

Here's what's in the logs concerning ntp:

The ntp package was upgraded on 2008-01-14 09:28:26.

I've searched on Google and found:

  https://support.ntp.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=780
  "kernel time sync error 0001"

I don't know if this is related to my problem, but if I understand
correctly, this ntp bug has been closed as invalid because they
claim that this is a bug in the Linux kernel.

I've attached my config file.

Bug#461413: rhythmbox: last.fm plugin fails to reliably scrobble listened to tracks

Using rhythmbox to listen to local Oggs results in erratic scrobbling of

an upstream issue; there is some discussion at:

Bug#461415: xzgv: broken after xorg update

2008-01-18 Thread cbothmer
Package: xzgv
Version: 0.8-5.1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I just tried to preview a png screenshot with xzgv, but xzgv just returned this
error message:

Gdk-ERROR **: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)
  serial 233 error_code 11 request_code 144 minor_code 5
Gdk-ERROR **: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)
  serial 234 error_code 9 request_code 55 minor_code 0

In fact, it fails and returns this message without giving any file at all. It
did work before the yesterdays' security update of xorg packages, so it's
likely related to that.

I am no longer interested in grun very much. Now you are the upstream,
it will be nice if you maintain its debian package as well.
Please take over grun if you like. Thank you for your help.

Bug#461405: cupsys-bsd: lpr fails to print due to missing spool directory

2008-01-18 Thread Tim Cutts
Package: cupsys-bsd
Version: 1.2.7-4etch2
Severity: important

We have cupsys-client and cupsys-bsd installed on client machines
without the cupsys package. Using lpr to print on these machines fails
because the /var/spool/cups/tmp directory (which is managed by the
cupsys package) does not exist. It seems this directory should be
maintained by the libcupsys package, not the cupsys package?

Creating the missing directory with the correct permissions has solved
the problem, so this should be an easy fix.

Regards,

Tim

Bug#461403: libnjb5: Please remove hotplug files

2008-01-18 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libnjb5
Version: 2.2.5-4.1
Severity: normal

The hotplug package is no longer available in sid or lenny.
So the hotplug files in /etc/hotplug/usb are imho useless.
Please remove them (See [1] how to do that correctly on package
upgrades).
I also think that the dependency on udev | hotplug is incorrect, as
there is no hotplug package anymore (i.e it should be udev only).

Cheers,
Michael

Ooh. I was trying to do this with `svn cp` (see [1]), and it didn't

I'm sorry but I can't bear more than 10 open bug reports on one of

Could this be fixed?

Bug#461397: libgphoto2-2: hotplug conffiles are not removed on package upgrades

2008-01-18 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: libgphoto2-2
Version: 2.4.0-8
Severity: important

libgphoto2-2 does no longer ship any hotplug files.
On package upgrades though, these files are not removed:
/etc/hotplug/usb/libgphoto2 (conffile)
/etc/hotplug/usb/libgphoto2.usermap
The same is true for
/etc/udev/libgphoto2_generic_ptp_support.rules (conffile).

Please remove this files correctly on package upgrades.
For conffiles please see [1].

Cheers,
Michael

Ah, good. There was something basic wrong with syntax syncing that got
fixed in that patch.

Bug#461411: work-around for missing poppler-data?

2008-01-18 Thread Junichi Uekawa
Package: xpdf-japanese
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

Apparently, the following sequence fixes poppler (and evince) japanese
text handling. xpdf-japanese isn't exactly for poppler, but for the
time being, can you provide the symlinks for convenience? Debian
doesn't really need two copies of the same file.

$ sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/poppler/cidToUnicode
$ sudo ln --symbolic /usr/share/xpdf/japanese/Adobe-Japan1.cidToUnicode
/usr/share/poppler/cidToUnicode/Adobe-Japan1
$ sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/poppler/cMap
$ sudo ln --symbolic /usr/share/fonts/cmap/adobe-japan1
/usr/share/poppler/cMap/Adobe-Japan1

junichi

Bug#461410: xserver-xorg-core: BadAlloc after security upgrade to 2:1.1.1-21etch2

2008-01-18 Thread Anthony Donegan
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.1.1-21etch2
Severity: normal

After security upgrade from 2:1.1.1-21etch1 to 2:1.1.1-21etch2 the program
azureus (2.5.0.0+0-1) crashes with the following error message:

The program 'SWT' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 320 error_code 11 request_code 148 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Can you try the new version in experimental,

rotation.

I've just tried to reproduce this bug with the new LabPlot version 1.6.0
(which is not yet in Debian) but I couldn't. So it seems that is fixed in
1.6.0.

Bug#461420: apache vs native.log permission problem

2008-01-18 Thread Erno Kuusela
Package: libapache2-mod-shib
Version: 1.3f.dfsg1-2

Hello!

There seems to be a permission problem in the default configuration:

strace -f apache2 -X ->
...
8986  open("/var/log/apache2/native.log", O_WRONLY|O_APPEND|O_CREAT, 0644) = -1
EACCES (Permission denied)
...

I think it's with all the default permissions but can't be 100% certain.

This was a bit annoying for me because it took me on a longish wild
goose chase (eventually involving C++ and looking silly on
shibboleth-users). A permission problem was silently preventing apache
from reading some of the shibboleth config files, while shibd was
reading them and happily logging its success in all the config files I
could find...

Bug#461426: fail2ban: xinetd FAIL

2008-01-18 Thread Guido Bozzetto
Package: fail2ban
Version: 0.8.1-3
Severity: wishlist

The xinetd daemon recognize some wrong conditions:
- deny_from and only_from directives to limit source IP
- tcp wrappers limitations
so is simply to recognize attacks on the host.
The attached files are:
jail.local= jail configuration
xinetd-fail.local = the filter file: match the FAIL status
iptables-nat-logdropall.local = the action file: LOG and DROP anything
from the bad IP in the PREROUTING chain of the nat table. Is simple to
block anything with raw table so also the tracked connections are
dropped.

Bug#461424: Iceweasel (and mozilla.org/firefox-oficial) crashes when I open a lot of windows/tabs.

2008-01-18 Thread Justin Piszcz

Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.11-1

Problem description: I use two 24" LCDs 1920x1200 so I often have a few
layers of web browsers (2 per monitor) for a total of 4 web browsers then
as I browse I open many tabs, it is either (during opening a lot of tabs,
1-2 min after, firefox dies) or if I have too many windows/browsers open,
I also find it dies after awhile. So my fix was just not to open a lot of
windows. Then I thought about it, I should be able to open a lot of
windows and tabs and not have iceweasel/firefox crash? Therefore I'd like
to get to the bottom of this one if possible.

I am using 32-bit Debian Testing (Lenny) with 4gb of ram.

$ dpkg -l | grep -i iceweasel
ii  iceweasel2.0.0.11-1
lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
ii  iceweasel-dbg2.0.0.11-1
debugging symbols for iceweasel

Yes I have already installed the debug version (of iceweasel) and the
backtrace is provided below.

I have cc'd [EMAIL PROTECTED] because the SAME exact thing
happens with the official 2.0.0.11 downloaded from mozilla.org.

I just upgraded to octave3.0 and indeed the bug is not there. I suppose
that you can close it.

No, this is not the problem. The “uri” argument is already cut at the
first column.

Well, as the uri is already correctly split, this shouldn’t happen, so
the current version of the patch in the SVN (without the columns) should
be fine.

Bug#461423: otrs2: Secure mode not enabled after configuration, allows denial of service.

2008-01-18 Thread Dale Thatcher
Package: otrs2
Version: 2.0.4p01-18
Severity: important

After debconfig has run for the package secure mode is not enabled.
This allows any user with access to the site to go to
http://thesite.com/otrs/installer.pl and lock clients out until apache
is restarted.

I belive the following should be added to /etc/otrs/Kernel/Config.pm:

   #  #
   # insert your own config settings "here" #
   # config settings taken from Kernel/Config/Defaults.pm #
   #  #
   $Self->{SecureMode} = 1;

Which prevents installer.pl locking out users.

thanks,

- Dale Thatcher

 Indeed; this is made clear in
 .

 I'd rather have this relaxed in policy; would it be possible to drop
 the strict versionning requirements for symlinks?

 I find the current Gtk dependencies saner than the previous ones which
 complexified upgrades and were problematic on buildds and end user sid
 systems due to arch: all / any version mismatches. The symlinks are
 useful to save space on e.g. live CDs where /usr/share/doc
 proliferation has a non-negligible cost (some MBs).

Bug#461442: detection of other OSes in update-grub

2008-01-18 Thread Fabian Greffrath

Package: grub2
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I'd like to know if it is possible (or maybe even planned) to integrate
the code into update-grub, that detects other (mostly proprietary) OSes
on my harddrive(s) during D-I?
I mean, it would be cool to have e.g.WinXP detetcted and added to the
GRUB-menu via a simple update-grub.

Cheers,
Fabian

Hello,

What change are you making? I just checked (after realizing that my
bug report might have been unclear or wandering), and s-s-d now has a
different message:

$ /sbin/start-stop-daemon --start
/sbin/start-stop-daemon: need at least one of --exec, --pidfile, --user or
--name

So the message is already consistent with what the code is (or used to
be anyway).

Bug#452347: [php-maint] Bug#452347: php5-common: /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime should search /etc/php5/conf.d/*.ini too

I find this a bit unfortunate, the whole conf.d/ thing is very useful to
override the default settings without having to alter the distributed
php.ini (with the pain of merging in local changes whenever it gets
updated in the package). (24 minutes is quite low for e.g. being logged
into twiki, if you take a lot of time writing the page, by the time you
commit the change your session has expired and you've lost the text :-( )

The fix is trivial and it's hard to see what would break by this;
I had actually just finished patching /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime myself
before checking the bug list.

Please reconsider this.

Thanks,
Paul Slootman

previously included in package "dbus", but it has been moved, and is now in
package "dbus-x11". I suggest adding a dependency (depends or recommends) on
dbus-x11.

network-manager is a system service, it doesn't require a session bus
(and by that means dbus-x11).

It's network-manager-(kde,gnome) that require a session bus, so we could
argue that these packages need a dependency on dbus-x11. But e.g.
gnome-session already starts a session bus without the need for
dbus-launch. This leaves only network-manager-kde. But then again, dbus
already has a recommends on dbus-x11.
