Bug#416241: apt-get, apt-cache: Please support multiple architecture cache files in the same location

2007-03-26 Thread Neil Williams
Package: apt
Version: 0.6.46.4-0.1
Severity: minor

When using apt for cross-building, it is common to query the
Debian mirrors for packages suitable for the host (e.g. i386) and then
query the toolchain cache for packages suitable for the target
(e.g. arm). It is also common to build more than one cross-build
architecture on any one host, requiring frequent changes between cache
files/directories.

apt makes it very difficult changing architectures like this because the
list files created by:
apt-get -o Apt::Architecture=arm -c myconf.unstable update
then get clobbered when the next command needs:
apt-get -o Apt::Architecture=powerpc -c myconf.unstable update

(In this example, myconf.$suite contains Dir options to set
non-privileged directories, usually beneath ~/.dpkg-cross.)

apt-get update is needed because apt-cache cannot switch from one
architecture to another without an update.

It is already necessary to have separate directory paths for each suite
but the list name includes the architecture name and another arch could
exist alongside. It is becoming unmanageable to have three directory paths
(testing, unstable, experimental) for every architecture! That's nearly
40 separate directory trees. It is also incredibly wasteful to have to
update one tree, perform a query, update a separate tree to perform a
query on a different arch and then have to update the original tree
again just because we've changed arch in between.

These are only ever package queries, not installations. It would be so
much easier if apt-cache could manage such queries directly instead of
producing an error (or no results at all) when simply changing
architecture without an update.

Hi,

this is also #387104. It's specific to SpeedyCGI, so the severity is
inflated (and vorlon already downgraded it to 'important').

>

Unfortunately this is not enough, it results in corrupted attachments.
The attachment data is not internally tagged as utf8 (and even if it
were, outputting arbitrary binary attachments in utf8 would probably
not be the right thing to do.)

I'm still trying to come up with a proper fix. Since things seem to work
with mod_perl2, there should be a way to fix this on the SpeedyCGI side
without touching the other parts of the code. My experiments with 'use
bytes' and various PerlIO hacks have so far been unsuccessful, though.

Looking back, this should have been documented for Etch. Unfortunately
it's too late now.

Meanwhile, the workaround is to use mod_perl2 instead.

Package: kpdf
Version: 4:3.5.5-3
Severity: normal

kpdf has the 'watch file' option turned on but updating my pdf (from
latex->ps->pdf) usually goes unnoticed (old content still displayed) and
sometimes results in broken display (white empty sheets only from some
page to the end). Underlying filesystem is ext3 (so should have good
enough filesystem timestamp resolution), kernel is latest git snapshot
(different versions tested, this has happened for some time now). gamin
is installed for file notification, not fam.

After a discussion with Ben on IRC, I now understand the purpose of
"stretchable space". I personally don't like it, but I simply changed
the config file.

Bug#415921: freedict-kur-tur: debian/watch file incorrect

2007-03-26 Thread Kęstutis Biliūnas
close 415921 0.1-1
thanks

Chris, you are not right. We are building the dictionaries, formatted
for the dictionary server and client which uses the DICT protocol, from
the source archive files *.src.tar.gz. The *.dic.dz files are already
formatted dictionaries into the bedic format.

Currently the file freedict-kur-tur..src.tar.gz not exists on
sf.net/freedict, but will appear in near future, and then this
debian package will go into unstable.

So, I am closing this bug.

Best regards,

Bug#416245: libxine1: RealAudio Codec (cook) is missing

2007-03-26 Thread Hongzheng Wang
Package: libxine1
Version: 1.1.4-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

It seems that the libxine1 in experimental lacks a workable RealAudio
Codec G2 (cook). The players based on libxine1, therefore, will be
muted while playing RealMedia files, e.g., totem-xine and xine-ui. They
work well on media files with other formats.

For instance, when I play a rm/rmvb file with xine-ui, it reports in
console:
[cook @ 0xb67668b4]Necessary extradata missing!

Thank you for your attention.

Bug#416246: mutt: a specific message cannot be sent (may be exim4 problem?)

2007-03-26 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.13-3
Severity: normal

I have found a funny bug on my system. It is always reprodicible. When I try
to send one specific message (attached to this mail), I always get this error:
=
Exim is a Mail Transfer Agent. It is normally called by Mail User Agents,
not directly from a shell command line. Options and/or arguments control
what it does when called. For a list of options, see the Exim documentation.
=
And the line at the bottom says:
Error sending message, child exited 1 ().

To reproduce the bug I postponed the message and then copied the file
'postponed' out of my ~/Mail directory. Now when I copy it back, start mutt,
press 'm', say yes to continue postponed message, then try to send it
without changes I get the same error! A miracle! :)

Any other mails just go.

That's not really libgnomeprints fault, because evince switched to using
Gtk-Print from libgtk2.0-0. Reassigning the bug accordingly :)

Open Office doesn't attempt anything, do you mean openoffice.org? ;-)

But yes, libgcj.so.6 is nowwhere.

Which JRE do you try to use? Which JREs are installed?.
Which libgcjs are there?. Do you have java-gcj-compat installed?
Is your gcj default 4.x (which it should be)?

This normally shouldn't happen, but maybe some
"cruft" remained from a dist-upgrade you did some time ago?.
(A sarge->etch dist-upgrade can't have caused that since neither sarge
nor etch have libgcj6)

Bug#416249: IRC crashes gaim

2007-03-26 Thread Simon Josefsson
Package: gaim
Version: 2.0.0+beta5-10
Severity: important

Hi! IRC chats seems to crash gaim. How to reproduce:

1) rm -rf ~/.gaim
2) gdb /usr/bin/gaim
3) Add an account, select IRC, add the screenname, add password, select
'remember password', select 'Save'.
4) If it doesn't crash directly, try logging in and out from the account
by clicking the 'Enabled' field in the account window.

Filling out the password isn't important for causing the crash.

This is on a newly installed etch rc2 machine.

Bug#416251: fullscreen window positioning not compatible with xinerama

2007-03-26 Thread martin f krafft
Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.8.20-7
Severity: important

I have a three head setup, using Xinerama to combine the three
monitors into a single logical screen. At 3x1280 by 1024, I thus
have a screen estate of 3840x1024 pixels.

GTK applications fail to position themselves properly on that
estate. The idea with my setup is that a window opens on the head
with the mouse pointer. Mathematically, in my setup, the horizontal
position of the window should be Wx on the head H, given by the
following equations. Mx is the horizontal position Mx of the mouse:

  H = int(Mx / 1280)   // division without remainder
  Wx = Mx % 1280   // the remainder

This seems to work now and then, but if an application remembers the
size of its window and it was shut down full-screen (1280x1024 in my
setup; such as iceweasel, jpilot, kazehakase), the mouse position
will be multiplied by 0.5 before the horizontal window position is
computed, and the number of the head seems to be ignored. The first
two also apply to a dual-screen setup:

  - if mouse on head 0 (0 <= Mx < 1280), window origin is +0+0
it thus displays properly on head 0
  - if mouse on head 1 (1280 <= Mx < 2560), window origin is +640+0
it thus displays half on head 0 and half on head 1
  - if mouse on head 2 (2560 <= Mx < 3840), window origin is +1280+0
it thus displays full-screen on head 1 (but not 2 as it should)

If the window is not restored at full-screen size, positioning seems
to work okay.

The above does not apply to applications like Gimp and buffy, which
restore their positions after drawing the window.

Thanks for looking into this.

Bug#415992: Re2: Bug#415992: Boot floppy fails to load initrd.gz (Etch)

2007-03-26 Thread Ilya A. Naydov

I've tried this boot floppy on another PC (Desktop, Intel-based,
Celeron)... It works well... So, it's not due to bad floppy...

If the latest weekly build contain RC2 installer then I used RC2
installer... :-)

Loading linux.
Loading initrd.gz (four dots, .gz is completly loaded in RAMdrive)

then it should start kernel, but it seems that it couldn't, I don't
know why... Can it be kernel2.6 incompatibility?..

I took boot floppy from 3.1r0 (I think it is not RC2) and it works
well on this very old laptop...

Bug#416250: should not store/restore window position

2007-03-26 Thread martin f krafft
Package: gimp
Version: 2.2.13-1
Severity: normal

It seems to be commonly accepted that positioning of windows is the
task of the window manager. Gimp apparently stores its position and
insists on restoring it. Would it be possible to disable this
functionality (or provide a configuration item for it) and let the
window manager handle positioning, not the application?

Thanks,

Ah, if it's SpeedyCGI I agree it's definitely not RC.

Hm, OK. It still solves most of the problem for us, though.

Unfortunately, that won't work for us, as we have two separate installations,
and mod_perl can't handle that.

Bug#416252: menu unresponsive

2007-03-26 Thread martin f krafft
Package: workrave
Version: 1.8.4-1
Severity: normal

Right-clicking on the workrave counter window and selecting mode,
then clicking on either of normal/suspend/quiet often does not have
any effect. I click on normal and return to the window to find the
bullet still next to suspend. It can take 2-4 tries before workrave
finally switches the mode. It's the same on i386 and am64, both
running sid.

Bug#416253: gs-esp should have lower alternatives score than gs-gpl

2007-03-26 Thread Karsten Heymann
Package: gs-esp
Version: 8.15.3.dfsg.1-1

The gs-esp-Package in etch is much older (8.15) than gs-gpl (8.54), but it
gets the /usr/bin/gs link because of it's higher alternatives score (60
compared to 20 for gs-gpl). I think that's a bug.

Any news on this? A patch maybe or a tip how you intend to solve it, so
that someone else can start testing, and NMU in case you won't find time?

Bug#416259: libopenobex: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD: missing libbluetooth2-dev

2007-03-26 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: libopenobex
Version: 1.3-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

currently, no libbluetooth2-dev is available on GNU/kFreeBSD (and
that is quite "normal", I'd say, given the description and the
source of bluez-libs), so your package can't be built on this
platform. Please find attached a patch to make bluetooth-related
stuff optional for kfreebsd-*, so that your package can be built and
installed on this platform, if you feel that your package is useful
anyway. I'd think so since there's a B-D on libusb-dev, and I guess
that many PDAs can be used through an USB link. I wasn't able to
build libsyncml (my APT cache is missing some B-Ds and I'm offline
at the moment), but gnome-vfs-obexftp can be built and installed
successfully.

I'm keeping severity=wishlist since I'm not sure about the usability
of your package w/o bluetooth (but I'm quite sure it is more useful
like that than FTBFSing...).

Cheers,

I did an other similar check in order to ensure the freshness of iso
mirrors for Etch.

still dead, I remove it from the list.

Bug#416261: lcdproc: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD: tiny tweak needed

2007-03-26 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: lcdproc
Version: 0.5.1-3
Severity: important
Tags: patch

Hi,

please find attached a tiny patch to allow the build on GNU/kFreeBSD
(full build logs are available on ).
Adding kfreebsd-i386 and kfreebsd-amd64 to the control field would be
needed as well. Your package then builds fine, at least on kfreebsd-i386
(I've no kfreebsd-amd64 box).

Cheers,

Hi,

currently your package FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD due to undefined symbols,
which are not handled anyway (the default case of the switch statement
yells when one of them is encountered), so I guess that the attached
patch, which makes your package build successfully on GNU/kFreeBSD,
could be integrated without too much troubles.

Ubuntu seems to have a patch for this:

It's definitely something to look into after etch is released.

Bug#416251: even with non-full-screen windows

2007-03-26 Thread martin f krafft
retitle 416251 window positioning not compatible with xinerama
thanks

I was able to reproduce the problem with non-fullscreen iceweasel
and epiphany windows, but not so with jpilot and kazehakaze.

An interesting point to note is that when started on head 1, the
window x position would be such that the edge between head 0 and head
1 (x == 1280) would be exactly 0.5 through the window's width.
Mathematically, Px is position, Wx is width:

  Px = 1280 - Wx/2

I can reproduce the full-screen behaviour at will. With
non-fullscreen windows it sometimes just works the way it should
(such that the window does not overlay onto another head), but
definitely not all the time.

Thanks,

I agree, it should be under control of my window manager, but
fluxbox is doing everything right, I thought. rxvt-unicode works
perfectly fine.

However, I just found out that xfig, which is not Gtk, has the same
problem. Argh! And I thought I had researched the bug well enough!

So I will have to look elsewhere. I shall take care of reassigning

Bug#416263: RFA: file -- Determines file type using "magic" numbers

2007-03-26 Thread Michael Piefel
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the file package. file is of priority standard
and comes with a library and thus the following additional packages are
generated from the source: libmagic-dev, libmagic1 and python-magic.
I believe the package to be in pretty good shape, even if the bug count
suggests otherwise; most bugs are requests for the addition of new
entries in the magic database and are not that urgent.

The package description is:
File tests each argument in an attempt to classify it. There are three
sets of tests, performed in this order: filesystem tests, magic number
tests, and language tests. The first test that succeeds causes the
 file type to be printed.
 .
Starting with version 4, the file command is not much more than a wrapper
 around the "magic" library.

Bug#416242: openoffice.org-core: sunjavaplugin.so attempts to use libgcj.so.6, which doesn't exist

Is your gcj default 4.x (which it should be)?

The only JRE I have installed is java-gcj-compat (1.0.65-10) + gij-4.1
(4.1.1-20).

I have tried running ooo with an empty profile and now it writes
'javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!' to stderr on
startup. I attach my old
~/.openoffice.org2/user/config/javasettings_Linux_x86.xml, with which
I get the behaviour described in the original report. The file was
last modified on 12 Jan 2006, so it seems that at some point in the
meantime ooo stopped recognizing java-gcj-compat + gij as a valid JRE.

This normally shouldn't happen, but maybe some
"cruft" remained from a dist-upgrade you did some time ago?.
(A sarge->etch dist-upgrade can't have caused that since neither sarge
nor etch have libgcj6)

I have removed all the stale java alternatives and reinstalled
java-gcj-compat. No results. Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm trying to download the example plug-ins referred to in the Java

The section contains a the instructions:
"Go to the http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/ page "

Clicking on the link takes me to the download page, where I can select
a file. This takes me to a mirror selection page with a download link

I have found this a difficult decision but I don't think waiting any
longer is going to help. I'm marginally leaning towards not allowing
it, so that's how I'm voting.

Bug#416266: freeradius: rlm_perl has symbol lookup errors when loading additional perl modules

2007-03-26 Thread Philipp Kolmann
Package: freeradius
Version: 1.1.3-3
Severity: important

Hi,

I am trying to get freeradius to do some post-auth stuff with an
external perl script I wrote. This script uses LWP::Simple to check if
the User is allowed access or denied.

Also using Data::Dumper raises the same problem:

moria:~# freeradius -X
[...]
Module: Loaded perl
 perl: module = "/etc/freeradius/dtcheck.pm"
 perl: func_authorize = "authorize"
 perl: func_authenticate = "authenticate"
 perl: func_accounting = "accounting"
 perl: func_preacct = "preacct"
 perl: func_checksimul = "checksimul"
 perl: func_detach = "detach"
 perl: func_xlat = "xlat"
 perl: func_pre_proxy = "pre_proxy"
 perl: func_post_proxy = "post_proxy"
 perl: func_post_auth = "post_auth"
 perl: perl_flags = "(null)"
 perl: func_start_accounting = "(null)"
 perl: func_stop_accounting = "(null)"

errors.
radiusd.conf[1719]: dtcheck: Module instantiation failed.
radiusd.conf[2133] Unknown module "dtcheck".
radiusd.conf[2093] Failed to parse post-auth section.

The Problem seems to be, that /usr/lib/freeradius/rlm_perl.so is linked
against /usr/lib/libperl.so.5.8 but perl uses another libperl:

perl -V | grep libperl:
libperl=libperl.so.5.8.8

When I start freeradius with
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libperl.so.5.8.8 freeradius -X
it starts and works.

Could you please check this issue. Searching the web it seems that this
has been a Problem in Sarge as well.

thanks
Philipp

Bug#416138: xcwcp: Please use soundcard instead of console for gnome launcher

2007-03-26 Thread Joop Stakenborg

2007/3/25, Jacob Anawalt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

The suid debconf prompt makes it sound like the software will be very

limited or perhaps may not run at all if you don't run it as root. If it
is really only to facilitate using the console speaker, my vote is for
soundcard use by default in the launchers and a low debconf priority for
the suid question spelling out the reasons why suid may be useful.

Maybe removing the suid question is even more appropriate. It comes from a
very old version of unixcw, when not all of the soundcards would work with
Linux.

Thank you.

but the bug still manifests itself. I'm using a Thinkpad T20.

Does ``This trick doesn't work for serial mice or USB mice,
and may not work on laptops.'' mean

a) the trick is having the numbers change, in which case I have
a laptop, and I'm screwed, or
b) the trick is having /proc/interrupts + a PS/2 mouse, in
which case I may still be screwed, but for some other reason.

If the latter, does having the numbers change hint that I might
be able to avoid the bug if I tweak some setting?

2007-03-26 Thread Manuel Prinz
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Manuel Prinz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

  Version : 1.1.2
  Upstream Author : Todd Dolinsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://pdb2pqr.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python, C
Description : Converts Protein Data Bank (PDB) files to PQR

  From the PDB2PQR hompage:
"PDB2PQR is a Python software package that automates many of the
common tasks of preparing structures for continuum electrostatics
calculations. This includes adding a limited number of missing
heavy atoms to biomolecular structures, optimizing the protein
for favorable hydrogen bonding, determining side-chain pKas, and
assigning charge and radius parameters from a variety of force
fields, ultimately yielding a final PQR file."

PDB2PQR is a tool often used in conjunction with APBS, which is in
Debian already. I have had good contact with both upstream authors

I believe twlog would be more user-friendly if it would 'just work'
on first run instead of requiring the user to read the man page or run
the program from an x-term to figure out why it won't launch.

For me, it would be more convenient if you report these kind of things to
the upstream author. He must have had his reasons for doing this and I am
hesitant to change the source package to fix wishlist kind of bugs...

Hello

Sorry, I still have no idea why mysql crashes for you. Please send me

-christian-

Hi Christian,
I have found soution for this bug. Today JKB on Debina Sparc list
published similar problem and workaroud. But he says that this problem
is known but not solved a long time ;-(.
I apply his workaround and recompile mysql-client-5.0 from source debs
and all works !

 Hello,

I use for a long time mysql server on several sparc64 workstations
running debian testing. I have to rebuild mysql when I need to upgrade
these systems. Endeed, due to a bug in gcc, I have to rebuild the debian
package, and after configure stage, I stop the process, edit config.h to
undef :

/* Define to 1 if you have the `gethostbyaddr_r' function. */
#define HAVE_GETHOSTBYADDR_R 1

/* Define to 1 if you have the `gethostbyname_r' function. */
#undef HAVE_GETHOSTBYNAME_R

and restart compilation. Without this hack, it is impossible to do
queries from a sparc64 system to a i386 or amd64 due to a bus error. Can
someone do anything to fix this bug in debian distributions ?

Regards,

JKB

Huh. Interestingly, etch's perl doesn't seem to be linked against
libperl. I wonder if that's intended. Well, just to be sure that you
actually have the symbol that is failing to be found, please post the
output of:

Bug#401744: flashplugin-nonfree: http_proxy is not used => fails to download if compulsory proxy

2007-03-26 Thread Michel Briand
/etc/wgetrc contains the proxy IP address but no user/passwd
information.
/root/.wgetrc contains this user/passwd information. As well
as /etc/apt/apt.conf.

I've redone the test you ask about, trying wget as root : it works.

Thus it is a problem with the package because
- wget works well,
- apt-get works well with the proxy (/etc/apt/apt.conf contains the
proxy user/passwd).

Michel

Bug#349316: kaddressbook: Looses all kontacts when shutting down

2007-03-26 Thread Marcus Better
found 349316 4:3.5.6.dfsg.1-1
thanks

I seem to have hit this, or a similar bug (again). It happens with contacts
located on a slow NFS server. When I shut down the KDE session I see a
progress dialog indicating that the address book is being written. The
progress indicator is at zero and gets interrupted by the logout process
quickly. The address book file gets truncated to length zero.

Previously I had this problem with a remote address book on an SSH connection.

Bug#416275: NIS: Typo in /var/yp/Makefile

Package: nis

There is a typo in /var/yp/Makefile concerning the comment on the
YPPUSHARGS variable. The -port, should be --port, else yppush treats it
as a map name. I've created a patch (with some extra info that you
shouldn't use quotes).

Hopefully the problem can be fixed in the next update of the NIS package.

Removing the tag as it was added without any justification. AFAICT
this is a real issue that should be solved.

I aggree.

Yes, but the gcc maintainers have said that the bug there has been

"long ago". Unfortunately they don't say in which version.

"has been fixed" ? I have tried to build mysql with _all_ gcc

Maybe, but I think it is not very difficult to fix the configure.in
script to avoid this bug.

I have no idea about that and no idea how that would affect other
architectures. Anyway, It is now probably too late to fix this for
Etch.

I have no idea too. In a first time, I suspected a 32 bits wide
userland and a 64 bits kernel... Maybe a trouble with gcc include on
sparc architectures.

Yes, I think. But to be sure, you have to apply my workaround.

I must confirm that your workaround solve problem on all !!! version of

For people using texlive, latex2rtf causes havoc on installation, as it
requires tetex-bin; this means most of the user's TeX system is swapped

Please could you make the package depend on tetex-bin | texlive (not
sure which texlive package is the best one to depend on, but I don't see
why latex2rtf shouldn't work with it.

Hello Christoph,

On Sunday, March 25, 2007 at 23:12:59 +0200, Christoph Berg wrote:

> I wonder if $locale shouldn't default to $LC_TIME

I fully agree, that would be a good thing, a step in the good
direction. Naturally users of a mailer expect it to be localized
following their current locale. But changing default $locale value or
behaviour could break existing muttrcs (those which removed ! from
$*_format and count on default $locale to get English time).

I can imagine 2 ways to do it:

-a) Initialise $locale to current locale.

-b) Initialise $locale to "", and make this get the current locale
(instead of skipping setlocale()).

   (b) would have the advantage to follow runtime environment changes
(for those using the setenv patch). I'd vote for that.

> the default date_format does already start with a ! to disable

Add ! everywhere to reget English by default? Humm... OK, today is
only a first step, right? Anyway this would also break some existing
muttrcs (those which set $locale and count on default $index_format to
get localized time).

Conclusion: I'm for it, despite the little problems.

Note: See related upstream wish/1158 "persistent locale setting" for
another aspect of the problem, and for a patch touching the same places
as alternative (b) above.

Bye!Alain.

Pyzor has gone beyond the point where I can reasonably maintain it in my
current situation.

Bug#416280: RFA: libcgi-simple-perl -- A Simple totally OO CGI interface that is CGI.pm compliant

2007-03-26 Thread Christopher Sacca
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the libcgi-simple-perl package.

The package description is:
CGI::Simple provides a relatively lightweight drop in replacement for CGI.pm.
It shares an identical OO interface to CGI.pm for parameter parsing, file
upload, cookie handling and header generation. This module is entirely object
oriented, however a complete functional interface is available by using the
 CGI::Simple::Standard module.
 .
Essentially everything in CGI.pm that relates to the CGI (not HTML) side of
things is available. There are even a few new methods and additions to old
ones! If you are interested in what has gone on under the hood see the
Compatibility with CGI.pm section at the end.
 .
In practical testing this module loads and runs about twice as fast as CGI.pm
 depending on the precise task.

I have seen there as been new releases since the last package update.
However now would be a bad time to upload a new upstream version as we
are in the freeze period.

I should be able upload the latest version in experimental within the
next couple of weeks.

cheers, paul

Do you have a suspend script which kills the NetworkManager daemon?
It seems as if NetworkManager is not running anymore (check with ps aux
| grep NetworkManager).
If so, this might be a bug in your suspend script.

well, playing the devil's advocate here, but there's nothing Debian can

Package: libxine1
Version: 1.1.2+dfsg-3

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Currently, Kaffeine is unusable for me. If I use Konqueror to open a video in
Kaffeine, the playlist-loading dialog quickly appears and disappears, and
then drkonqi shows that Kaffeine has crashed. It appears to be related to
libxine, as the backtrace shows.

Do I really need to build a debug-enabled Xserver? Aren't there
pre-built packages on any repo?

I guess that the backtrace present in Xorg.0.log is not useful:
