Have a look at:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/php-suhosin/php-suhosin_0.9.8-1.dsc

There are files in debian/include/ext/mbstring/ which are copied from the php5
(5.1.6-1) source package. This files should be shipped with php5-dev, how it
was some versions before (dunno exactly where is got lost)

With php4-dev the headers are shipped anyways.

With kind regards, Jan.

What happens when you use the very same driver on a Windows print
server?

Have you tried to stop samba, clean out the contents of /var/run/samba
and subdirectories?

Anyway, I'm not convinced that this deserves to have an important
severity, given the quite restricted field of relevance for that bug.

Bug#395146: kdeprint: cannot create CUPS printer (client-error-bad-request)

2006-10-25 Thread Jeremy Laine
Package: kdeprint
Version: 4:3.5.5a-2
Severity: important

I am unable to create a local CUPS printer using the KDE printer
manager. I have experienced the same problem with on two different
machines with different printers, so the problem seems to be fairly
generic. A higher severity may be appropriate as the user cannot make
use of the print facility at all unless he/she can create a printer.

Initial conditions:

CUPS installed, but no printer configured.

Steps to reproduce:

1/ Launch KDE Control Center
2/ Switch to Administrator Mode
3/ Choose Add Printer/Class
 - Select "Local printer"
 - Select USB printer (in my case USB #1 -> Samsung ML-2010)
 - Select driver (in my case the foomatic/gdi driver for Samsung ML-200)
4/ Press "Test".

I get an error message : "Unable to create temporary printer"

5/ Click through the remaining screens, and press "Finish"

I get an error message : "Unable to create printer. Error message
received from manager: client-error-bad-request"

Additional tests:

I can create the printer just fine using foomatic-gui, and it works OK. The
printer now appears correctly in the KDE printer manager, and it is even
possible to remove the printer via KDE's interface.

When booting 2.6.17 on my ultra-10 with a creator3d (upa) graphics

There is no usable output on the onboard mach64 vga output either. My

Try to use 2.6.18 kernel.

Thanks. It works.

I know this is a WIP package, but maybe some entries in a Debian.Readme
could hint the users about the (in)compatibilities between xen and some
kernels ?

Great work anyway, and thanks for your quick answer.

gnulib/config.h is generated by gnulib/configure:

# ./configure

config.status: creating po/Makefile
configure: configuring in gnulib
configure: running /bin/sh './configure' --prefix=/usr/local
--cache-file=/dev/null --srcdir=.
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes

and the output from gnulib/configure has nothign about _FILE_OFFSET_BITS...
So after gnulib/config. is generated it is included in gnulib sources, not the
root ./config.h ...

According to Manoj in the logs to bug#394661, which was blocking this
bug and has since been closed, the bug was fixed in kernel-package
10.063. So I guess that all that is needed is a rebuild of the
kernels with a Build-Depends on a sufficiently recent kernel-package.

Bug#395127: gtk2-engines-gtk-qt: Colors wrong: background and menu. regression

2006-10-25 Thread Jason Winzenried
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried as you said, and also changed the font
settings in the GTK Styles and Fonts kcontrol module, but nothing changed the
color. I remember there were some problems with antialiasing that were
solved by changing the font (then changing back) but I haven't seen any yet.
I am also not using the default font from kde 3.5.4 that IIRC was somehow
tied to the antialiasing bug.

I'll be happy to attempt anything else you might suggest. Thanks for your
attention!

Sure, here you go. I would prefer the behavior changed, but if it

Bug#395052: Please provide the GTK frontend with a better handler for BOOLEAN questions

A "yes/no" widget based handler would do better for this purpose, ATM
i'm thinking about implementing this with a combobox [1] widget.

I don't agree that this would be a better solution as it would not be
obvious to users which options are available and having to always open
the combobox to select a different choice is very user unfriendly.

The optimal solution would be to have yes and no buttons, just like in the
newt frontend.

An IMHO somewhat acceptable alternative solution is possibly to use radio
buttons:

http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/GtkRadioButton.html

I've experimented with the combobox and i must admit having a popdown
menu is not optimal for many reasons: anyway patch is attached, so that
anyone can evaluate by himself.

Let's try with a radiobutton, now.

This is very odd, since everything looks ok until the error from grep.
What's hapening there is actually quite basic. What do you get when
calling

echo 'TEXFONTMAPS = .;$TEXMF/{fonts/,}map//;$TEXMF/dvips//' \
 | egrep -q '.TEXMF/{fonts/,}map//;.TEXMF/dvips//' ; echo $?

directly?

Bug#392342: wodim: a fix

2006-10-25 Thread Bruce MacDonald
Package: wodim
Version: 5:1.0~pre4-1.1
Followup-For: Bug #392342

Just noticed bug report #393188 which solves the problem; wodim is
reporting a warning on stdout before the multisession data returned by
-msinfo and I guess k3b is getting that text instead of the
multisession data. Changing at line 183 in libscg/scsitransp.c to
output to stderr:

fprintf(stderr,"\nWarning: This version of libscg has not been
configured via the standard\n");
fprintf(stderr,"autoconfiguration method of the Schily makefile system.
There is a high risk\n");
fprintf(stderr,"that the code is not configured correctly and for this
reason will not behave\n");
fprintf(stderr,"as expected.\n");

and rebuilding cdrkit and installing the wodim package fixes this
particular problem for me. I've tested it on a couple of multisession
CDs. Haven't done any extensive testing.

Bug#382788: Other example of need to use root=... with yaird

2006-10-25 Thread Uwe Schindler
I used yaird as initrd, because in the early 2.6.12 days, initramfs was not
available because of a missing klibc on the alpha platform. Because of this
bug I switched to initramfs now.

During a disk restructuring I copied my root filesystem from /dev/sda3 (old
scsi) to /dev/sdb2 (sata). As usual I changed fstab and run mkinitrd again,
which worked. The problem with yaird was now, that it correctly detected,
that the root device was on /dev/sdb and added the SATA drivers to the
initrd. After reboot it loaded ONLY the sata driver which made my root disk
/dev/sda. But when trying to mount the root file system yaird insisted in
mounting /dev/sdb2. Fixing this by things like "root=/dev/sda2" (because of
this bug) or "init=/bin/sh" did not work. My only possibility was to boot
from installer CD, and fix it from there.

It does not work on my PPC system at all. Can you try it on a PPC machine?

I use 0.6.0-2.

According to the gstreamer guys this is most probably caused by a
alignment issue with the altivec optimizations in mpeg2dec. Buffers have
to be aligned in a specific way IIRC.

So this is either a gst-plugins-ugly0.10 or mpeg2dec bug but definitely
no thoggen one.

In Ubuntu this does work on altivec enabled PPCs as they have altivec
support in mpeg2dec disabled. Can you please try to rebuild their
mpeg2dec package[1] on sid and try to reproduce the crash?

I do not have mpeg2dec installed.

I install it from debian and the same crash happens.

Also could you please try running
gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/file.mpg

Bug#395154: Please allow for blocking bugs at submittal time

Package: bugs.debian.org

It would be nice if I could mark a bug as blocking an existing bug in the
initial mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] See for example #395150 for a bug where I
tried to do that but found out it didn't actually work. (Alternately, if
there is a way to do it but I got the syntax wrong, there should be info in
the b.d.o docs on how to do it.)

Bug#395155: libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev: Please provide alternative depends from libmotif

2006-10-25 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev
Severity: minor

Hi,

I tried to compile arb (in non-free) and find out that it is missing
a header file GL/GLwMDrawA.h and a library libGLw.a that is provided
by libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev. Unfortunately arb does not work with
lesstif2-dev and thus I have to use libmotif-dev. If libgl1-mesa-swx11-dev
would allow libmotif as alternative (provided that this works) I
would be very happy. If not I would be in serious trouble in
maintaining arb.

Kind regards and thanks for your cooperation

  Andreas.

Apparently drivers/ide/setup-pci.c forces it to use DMA as there's a switch in
which certain chipsets are forced to use DMA, while the default handling is to
disable it.

Thanks for your useful reply!

no splash screen at all,
just a screen + console blank.
reproducible with latest usplash and linux-image 2.6.18 or 2.6.17.

i'm a bit lost what the cause is, i know that it is not the vesafb,
as this one would only kick in if you boot with vga=xxx.
adding vgafb to the initramfs didn't cure my trouble with latest.
nor changing the hook script to use the lowest possible image
resolution.

really no idea atm.

Sorry, I'm probably wrong but from the link you posted in the bugreport all I

Oh then I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that you installed it
from Debian and the crash happens also with the mpeg2dec commandline I
gave you some lines below. Do you get the same crash with that
commandline after installing mpeg2dec?

And can you play a mpg file with totem-gstreamer for example?

And also please try to rebuild the mpeg2dec packages from the Ubuntu
package of mpeg2dec and see if the thoggen crash still happens.

Setting the panel to autohide, I can easily reproduce this bug.
I guess the solution will be, to ask KDEs theme engine for the
background color and not X.

Bug#395052: Please provide the GTK frontend with a better handler for BOOLEAN questions

2006-10-25 Thread Attilio Fiandrotti

Frans Pop wrote:

On Tuesday 24 October 2006 17:47, Attilio Fiandrotti wrote:

Many users complained about poor "checkbox" handler provided in the GTK
frontend to handle BOOLEAN questions.

Attached to this mail you'll find a patch to current GTK frontend in SVN
that implements BOOLEAN questions with gtkradiobuttons and; it's
included a screenshot too.
I belive this handler is better than the one based on gtkcombobox and as
good as the current one based on gtkcheckbox.
It also fixes the bug i discovered yesterday, which currently causes a
BOOLEAN question to be updated in the database, even if the user pressed
BACK, as soon as he checks/unchecks the checkbox.

cheers

Bug#395159: x11-common: [xsession] /etc/X11/Xsession.d contains obsolete XFree86 files (launches ssh-agent twice)

2006-10-25 Thread Jean-Christophe Dubacq
Package: x11-common
Version: 1:7.1.0-5
Severity: normal

Xfree86 config files were left behind in /etc/X11/Xsession.d

As a result: they do not belong to any more packages; and ssh-agent is
launched twice (and various wrappers could have strange effects). Plus,
it is not elegant.

I do not know where is the right place to clean this mess (it should
have been made when the x11-* files were created).

Maybe simply deleting them, or sed'ing them so as to render them
inactive is the solution. But it will probably require to be post-etch.

As a workaround:
cd /etc/X11/Xsession.d
rm *xfree86*

If /sbin/modprobe is executable but modules are not enabled (and
/lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.dep does not exists), you get an
annoying message on stderr.

checking /proc/modules and /sbin/modprobe let you be sure that you

Compile with -O0 instead of -O2, and the problem disappears.

That might be a work-around if you want a quick'n dirty fix.

Hi Tobias!

Do you by chance use lilo? If so, you should set GRUB_LOADER="LILO" in
/etc/powersave/common.
This will also disable the check for the kernel that is booted nex.
Currently powersave has only support for grub:
It parses /boot/grub/menu.lst to see which boot entry is used on next
boot. If this entry doesn't match the currently running kernel (or if
the parsing fails), it will refuse to suspend_to_disk.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#395161: does not properly dereference (relative) symlinks in subdirectories

2006-10-25 Thread martin f krafft
Package: acl
Version: 2.2.41-1
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/getfacl
Tags: upstream patch

This is an ugly little bug:

piper:~> touch file; mkdir dir; ln -s ../file dir/
piper:~> getfacl file >/dev/null && echo successful
successful
piper:~> cd dir
piper:~/dir> getfacl file >/dev/null && echo successful
successful
piper:~/dir> cd ../
piper:~> getfacl dir/file >/dev/null && echo successful
getfacl: dir/file: No such file or directory

I *think* this is because the symlink is relative:

  readlink("dir/file", "../file", 4095) = 10
lstat("../file", 0x7fff10d8dbb0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)

it tries to access ../file from the current directory, not from the
directory. If I compare this to the strace of the stat utility, then
I can see that it calls lstat() on the given path and doesn't
actually use the result from readlink(), which is calls afterwards
probably to verify that it's a link we're dealing with:

  lstat("dir/file", {st_mode=S_IFLNK|0777, st_size=7, ...}) = 0
  [...]
  readlink("dir/file", "../file", 8) = 7
[... no more references to dir/file or ../file]

Looking at the code of getfacl, I note the resolve_symlinks()
function in getfacl.c and can't help thinking that it does the wrong
thing. When walking trees, you do not want to resolve symlinks.

The attached patch removes the resolve_symlink call (but leaves the
function for now). A better solution may be to use the stat()
syscall instead of lstat()?

Anyway, with the patch applied, I tested:

  - the above scenario, which now works
  - mkdir dir dir2; touch dir2/file; ln -s ../dir2 dir; getfacl dir/dir2/file
  - getfacl -R dir
==> which now only has one entry since symlinks don't have
 ACLs.
  - getfacl -R / (which was my original intention) :)

Bug#394389: [Yaird-devel] Bug#394389: yaird: Loopback and loop-AES device support

2006-10-25 Thread Peter Colberg
One should never promise a patch to be the last one...

Following up with a few more changes to see how long *this* patch
will be able to hang around here without being altered again, and
to keep me from tinkering with it any more.

=> 1106_add_loopback_and_loopaes_with_loopaestab_support_v4.patch

   - LoopAesEntry, LoopAesTab, LoopDev, LoopTab:
Add original based-upon source file to copyright notice.

   - LoopAesVersion::probeLoopAesModule:
Remove unnecessary test for string 'loop_compute_md5_iv', as
 it's a substring of 'loop_compute_md5_iv_v3'.

   - LoopAesVersion::grepBinary:
Natively implement search for strings in binary file.

   - LoopTab::init:
Only call LoopAesVersion::probeLoopAesSetup if an active loopback
device has actually been detected, ensuring that a valid, working
 losetup binary is available.

   - LoopTab::processLine:
Do not fail on parsing non-device-backed loopback devices.
File-backed devices could be available at image built time
 without actually being used.

   - Plan::tryLoop:
Check if the loop device source is an active block device.
This is the correct place to prevent use of file-backed devices.

Improve option processing to differentiate between keyword and
non-keyword attributes, and check if a value to an option is
missing (non-keyword case) or not allowed (keyword case).

   - Formatting and whitespace...

Peter

Bug#394854: debian.lami.univ-evry.fr mirror broken

2006-10-25 Thread Olivier Michel
Hello,

due to major lab changes (name, location, ...) we have also changed
some of the ftp organization. We are no longer called LaMI but IBISC
(http://www.ibisc.univ-evry.fr).

The ftp is now accessible via

ftp://debian.ibisc.univ-evry.fr/

and we are mirroring

debian
debian-non-US
debian-unofficial

debian and debian-non-US are mirrored from ftp.fi.debian.org using
rsync with the following exclude-list

*-alpha/
*_alpha.deb
*-powerpc/
*_powerpc.deb
*-sparc/
*_sparc.deb
*-arm/
*_arm.deb
*-m68k/
*_m68k.deb
*-s390/
*_s390.deb
*_mipsel.deb
*-mipsel/
*_mipsel/
*-hppa/
*_hppa.deb
*-hurd/
*_hurd.deb
*_hurd-i386.deb
*-mips/
*_mips.deb
*-ia64/
*_ia64.deb
source/
Incoming/
local/
*.orig.tar.gz
*.tar.gz
*.diff.gz

debian-unofficial is mirrored using rsync also, from
ftp.kfki.hu::ftp/linux/cdimages/debian-unofficial with the same
exclude list.

We have removed the http access because we didn't know how to restrict
the bandwith. When major debian releases are coming out, it just took
our server down and we could not serve regular lab files any more. If
you know how to do that in Apache 2, we'll be happy to set it
back. The same goes for rsync.

If you'd like us to change things in the scripts/locations/... just let
me know and I'll do it.

regards,
Olivier MICHEL.

Version 2.4.2.-3 is from woody, right? This syntax for grep does work
for version 2.5.1.ds1-4, which is in sarge. So this looks like whether
or not we want to support woody -> etch upgrades.

Comments/Problems:

Install was low memory mode, but this machine has 64MB memory.
Is installation from floppy always "low memory mode"?
Installation did not ask anything about which modules to load etc.,
which I think it should ask if it really is low memory mode install.

I deselected "standard system" from tasksel display, thinking I
can install that later, but it is not available when I start tasksel
in the installed system. So now some of the standard packages
are not installed.

Console keymap was not set up, the åäö keys did not work from console.

I'm not sure if this is the fault of the installer:
aptitude et al complain about GPG error and untrusted sources.
Are the keyrings in /etc/apt wrong or is the mirror I use,
ftp.fi.debian.org somehow wrong just now?

I can provide log files on request.

I'm not sure we should do this: The version you had installed is from
woody, and we don't support upgrades from woody to etch. Everybody
should bring their machines to sarge first. There's hardly any package
that would then not need a version if you depend on it if we don't draw
a line somewhere - and by Debian's general policy this line is upgrades
from stable-1 to stable are supported, but not from stable-2 to stable
(and analogous for testing).

You should really check your sources.list and run apt-get (or aptitude)
dist-upgrade to make sure that you have an up-to-date system, in
particular when you start using unstable packages.

would really help me since I am going to buy a C6180 soon. ;)

If so, this bug should be set to a higher priority to make it release
critical.

For the time being, I've prepared a NMU patch to apply the fix for this
bug. If Christian has no comments or objections over the next few days
I'll be happy to upload it.

Cheers

Bug#387484: conflicts with network-manager versions using user "hal" (Unknown username "hal")

2006-10-25 Thread Michael Biebl
tags 387484 wontfix
thanks

Hi Filipus!

The message you see is only a warning message. NetworManager will still
work (it will only fail to detect hotplugged network devices).
Newer versions of NetworkManager are fixed to correctly use the new
"haldaemon" user and depend on the correct version of hal.
So we are pretty safe in that regard.
Introducing a versioned conflict for a warning message is a too drastic
measure, so I'm tagging this bug wontfix.
It will be closed after the etch release.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#374834: More analysis on bug 374834

2006-10-25 Thread Tim Dijkstra
I know I said I wouldn't look into the code, but I couldn't resist...

It seems the problem is in the wait_dpkg() function. There update-menu
forks, the child then does some stuff, sends a signal that should kill
the parent and lets dpkg continue. The child then waits for dpkg to
finish.

Apparently in both cases observed the parent update-menu fails to die
and with that holds the install process. In the case where we see a
 child update-menu, the child can't get a update-menu lock
(which can happen if another package already fired up an update-menu
instance) and dies as it should. In the case where I saw the child
waiting for the dpkg-lock it could get the update-menu-lock, and sits
there waiting as it should.

Concluding, somehow the parent update-menu never gets the signal or the
signal never gets send. I'm not at the broken machine at the moment, so
I can't test if a 'kill -SIGHUP2 ' has the desired effect,
will do that tonight.

/ Would be nice if dpkg had support for hooks, )
.oO( then those signals wouldn't be necessary./

grts Tim

Bug#395166: debhelper: dh_installdebconf: Must bump versioned dependency in ${misc:Depends}

2006-10-25 Thread Frank Küster
Package: debhelper
Version: 5.0.40
Severity: important

I fear (see below) this might even be RC, it affects many packages built
with debhelper.

Currently, dh_installdebconf adds to ${misc:Depends}

debconf ( >= 0.5) | debconf-2.0

However, at least one important change to debconf is much younger and
only implemented since 1.4.69 (which was post-sarge), and that is the
addition of the error template. Since maintainer scripts should affix
dh_* lines with "|| true", the maintainer script will not fail.

However, an error will usually only be displayed if something of high
urgency has happened. In this case it is usually crucial that the admin
know what has happened and how to fix the situation. With the error
message being implemented, there will probably be many cases where such
information is hard to find elsewhere.

This has hit us (in a particular strange case, with our sid package and
woody versions of grep and debconf...) in bug #395032, but there may be
many more packages in the archive that suffer from this problem.

The reason why I report this as non-RC is that if a package depends on
debconf, the installed debconf will probably be upgraded and configured
before that package during dist-upgrade, which is the recommended
procedure of upgrading.

Regards, Frank

No problem, I've said "may" in subjunctive :) .

Actually, my system is 3.5 years old and is unstable from the beginning,
but I update only what I need. I guess I should consider dist-updgrading
at least to stable releases.

Thanks again for the great support!

Bug#392701: apache 2.2 upgrade didn't notice AuthUserFile

Furthermore, to actually have AuthUserFile function in the same block,
other modules were also missing, but the lack of them was indicated by
500 error codes to the users and rather confusing error messages in
the error log.

To satisfy things like the very basic upstream howto:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/howto/auth.html
one also needs auth_basic and authz_user in addition to authn_file.

The upgrade procedure should grep the entire existing Apache configuration
for instances of AuthType Basic, AuthUserFile, Require (valid-)?user and
such things, and subsequently enable their respective modules.

I don't understand. The package mentioned in this bug[*] is libcairo,

Don't worry. Even if 1.6.9 or 1.6.10 is not released with Etch, we will
provide Etch backports (this is the only real way to deal with drivers like
HPLIP that need constant updates to keep up with new hardware).

Just after reporting this bug I have found the same problem already described,
but assigned to a binary package for a specific architecture and flavour, so I
have decided to reassign the former bug to the source package and merge them.

Now, I don't think we should allow this problem to just disapper from the list
of open bugs, even if it is really not a bug in the package itself, but in a
network infrastructure. In my opinion it should be recognized as a possible
regression after an upgrade from sarge to etch. So I have decided to reassing
the bug to release-notes, where it should be mentioned about, I believe.

Thank you,
Janusz

Those are the same, more or less. libcairo is the name of the source
package, while libcairo2 is the name of the binary package containing
the library libcairo (in SOVERSION two, the only one in the archive)

> BTW, libcairo2 has the same problem: see merged bugs 383034 and

Those should already be fixed. I see that you have reproduced the bug on
your boxes - could you check if this still happens with the new version?
I found that the upload fixed the bug for me, so please check and close
the bug if it's fixed for you (which I expect).

Bug#377359: "Patch" for this bug

2006-10-25 Thread Thijs Kinkhorst
tags 377359 patch
thanks

Hi,

Here's a suggested replacement text:

=
The GNU gettext library is a widely used localization library, but in
order to use it with the PHP language, the system has to support the
desired locale, and library itself must be installed.

Since this is not always the case, PHP-gettext has been developed to be
able to read gettext MO files directly, without requiring anything other
than PHP.

Currently, it's usable if you develop most of the infrastructure for
choosing language on your own, because it's possible to use both
gettext() and ngettext() calls. In the near future, it should also be
fully compatible drop-in replacement for all of gettext functionality
written in PHP.
==

Can we get this in etch?

Thanks,
Thijs

Bug#379090: Still no news on 64bit i386 kernels

2006-10-25 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Hi,

just a small reminder that etch still has no 64bit kernels for
i386. This is a regression from sarge which has them. The bug
(#379090) has a simple patch to reintroduce those kernel images (+5/-1
lines code change and the rest is config) for nearly 100 days without
a comment so far.

Would it be possible for the release team to make this a release issue
and raise the severity of the bug accordingly?

MfG
Goswin
