Oh then I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that you installed it from Debian and the crash happens also with the mpeg2dec commandline I gave you some lines below. Do you get the same crash with that commandline after installing mpeg2dec? And can you play a mpg file with totem-gstreamer for example? And also please try to rebuild the mpeg2dec packages from the Ubuntu package of mpeg2dec and see if the thoggen crash still happens. Bye
