Bug#724928: debian-installer: eth0 configured wrong
Package: debian-installer Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I recently installed Debian testing from the netinstall ISO using internet via eth0. The debian installer created the file /etc/network/interfaces with the following content: --- # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp --- The last two lines caused me some problems, because I couldn't connect to the internet via eth0, although the cable was plugged in. (This worked during installation!) The Gnome indicator for network connections sayed (in german): 'Kabelgebunden nicht verwaltet' (i.e. 'cable not managed') After removing the lines in question from /e/n/i and a reboot, the network is working properly. I think these two lines should not be created during installation. Bug#724931: Grub2-Multiboot-ISO-USB-Stick needs loop.ko and iso-scan
Package: debian-installer Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, The module 'loop.ko' is not shipped with the Debian testing netinstall ISO. It should reside in /lib/modules/3.10-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/block/. Because it is missing, it is impossible to mount ISO images during the install and thus preventing installation from ISO, if the module is not manually imported. Please include the kernel module loop.ko in all installation ISOs. It would be awesome, if you could also add iso-scan to the install ISOs, so that one can use the 'findiso=' boot option. This would make it possible to install from the ISO without having to mount it manually during the installation. Bug#724933: Grub2-Multiboot-ISO-USB: apt-setup service failed
Package: debian-installer Severity: important Dear Maintainer, When installing from the Debian netinstall ISO using Grub2's loopback method, and manually mounting the ISO to /cdrom, the installation process gets stuck at apt-setup only printing: 'apt-setup: /usr/lib/apt-setup/generators/50mirror backed up' This problem has occurred in the past: http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/05/msg00168.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2011/06/msg00030.html From these posts I concluded, that the problem was the line 58 'db_metaget apt-setup/use/netinst description' in the file /usr/lib/apt-setup/generators/50mirror. I do not know what this line is supposed to do and I couldn't find the documentation for 'db_metaget', but I accidentally found a workaround: Inserting the new line 'warning()' just above the 'db_metaget'-line solves the problem. Please include this workaround in the netinstall ISO, or find a better (i.e. more understandable) way to solve the problem. These lines are created, when you use these device to connect the internet during installation. On the other hand, they should be removed from the file, when for example network-manager-gnome is installed AFAIK (which seems to be the case here, since you talk about "Gnome indicator for network connections"). So the lines were not removed, but they should have been removed. Please provide us the installation logs from /var/log/installer. Bug#698727: Bug #698727 is still an issue
Hi, this is still an issue: When installing Debian from an USB stick, an entry for the USB stick is added to /etc/fstab: '/dev/sdb1 /media/usb0 autorw, user, noauto 0 0' Therefore every stick inserted in the /dev/sdb1 slot is mounted without permission for a normal user and is thus inaccessible. Removing this entry solves the problem. I installed with a recent debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso. I can't think of a scenario, where a user would want an automatically created fstab entry for an USB stick. So this behavior should be changed. Spending more time with -release@ stuff those days, but still spending some with -boot@, so hopefully we're getting those $some_day. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hi, Did this install GNOME during installation? Or did you do that afterwards? I choose the software 'Debian desktop environment' during installation and this installed GNOME 3.4 as expected. Philipp Kern (2013-09-30): > Did this install GNOME during installation? Or did you do that afterwards? I think that's a known bug in netcfg, discussed several weeks ago. I'm not sure it was diagnosed yet though. No time right now to dig it up, but feel free to ping me later if you can't find the reference. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
