Excuse my ignorance, but do you mean the files from [1]?

Installing Debian with a USB medium I always used the files from [2] and
the above mentioned ISO and it worked. Is that not supported anymore or
do you want me to just try it for testing purposes?

How do I find out what version is used?

We need to check why it's failing for you and I'd like to confirm this
happens with the latest version of iso-scan (many changes happened
between 1.31, which is in testing, and 1.35 from unstable)

Hmmm, interesting. I was thinking that /var/log/syslog, during the
install, can tell, but I see nothing in what you sent in your initial
BR.

I tried the files from [2] but it looks like `iso-scan` is not used
there since everything is downloaded from the WWW. I also could not find
`iso-scan` switching to the console and trying to execute it.

I tried again with `hd-media` to get more debugging information. I
located

./var/lib/dpkg/info/iso-scan.postinst

and added `set -x` to the beginning.

Please find the log attached. Unfortunately due to the graphical user
interface it is not very elaborate.

I compared `iso-scan.postinst` to the one in the master branch from [3]
(3e40e214) and they are identical. So it looks like I am already using
the most current version.

Ok I used `iso-scan.postinst > 20110603-iso 2>&1` so I could not see
what to enter. But adding `set -x` it is also logged when using the
menu. I will send the log privately because there are some files of
friends on there. I guess it is some quoting issues and it would be
great if a common test case could be found.

And I made another discovery. Using a clean USB medium, i. e. no other
files than the Debian Installer files are on there, the ISO files is
detected and `isolist` is populated.

So as a workaround please delete/move other files before trying to use
that medium for installation.

Thanks,

Paul

Package: grub-installer
Severity: normal

I recently received a Lemote YeeLoong as a gift at a conference. I
installed Debian on it and things are mostly working out okay.

Getting the bootloader going was a bit of a challenge. There was
already one bug with loading initramfs that was fixed upstream. The
installer doesn't seem to understand that grub is the correct bootloader
to install, and the postinst script for grub doesn't actually configure
anything. These issues are being addressed.

One outstanding issue that's rather unique to this system is that the
BIOS looks for a file called 'boot.cfg' in either / or /boot of the
first partition on the harddrive (using msdos partitioning). This file
is expected to be in a particular format understood by the BIOS. Here's
one that I have that is working for me:

snip
timeout 1
default 0
showmenu 0

title Boot with GRUB (grub.elf)
kernel (wd0,0)/grub.elf
args nil
snip

(those are hard tabs, in case they don't come out).

The BIOS gets angry if the 'args' line is not given, even though grub
ignores it (which is why I put 'nil' here).

Installing that file is enough to get GRUB loaded at bootup by default
and from there the normal Debian grub setup is quite good enough to get
the default kernel booting.

Bug#628991: `iso-scan` fails with `main-menu[343]: WARNING **: Configuring 'iso-scan' failed with error code 1`

reassign 628991 iso-scan

Yes, my suggestion to use netboot was silly as in such case, iso-scan
is not used

Yes, you did the right thing

But other logs you sent, plus the informaiton that removing other
files helped, will be very helpful.

Reassigning this bug to iso-scan, where it clearly belongs. It is
quite clear that the problem is due to changes introduced recently
that are meant to allow choosing ISO images when more than one is
present on the installation medium.

Thanks for your investigation.
